As reported by Life, Doctor Who and Combom the subject of updating the often controversial Through Time, which was published by Bloomsbury Academic, was broached by a fan via the social media site, to which Cartmel replied:

@EducationNinja Thank you. We are actually thinking of releasing a new edition this year.

— Andrew Cartmel (@andrewcartmel) July 13, 2013

He followed up with the suggestion that he’d like to handle a release of Script Doctor himself after original publisher Reynolds & Hearn ceased printing in 2010:

@MiwkPublishing @EducationNinja A lot of demand for Script Doctor now it is out of print so I want an e-book (+ print on demand) for it soon

— Andrew Cartmel (@andrewcartmel) July 14, 2013

If you’re interested in reading more on Andrew’s time as Script Editor during the Seventh Doctor’s reign David Bishop conducted a comprehensive making-of interview with him for New Zealand fanzine TSV.

Who Will Win the Doctor Who Comics Licence?

Andrew Reynolds is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.

Panel by panel, blow by blow, Bleeding Cool have been serialising the US Doctor Who licencing saga and now in a third act twist that no one saw coming, ‘KA-POW!’ Boom! Comics have pulled out of the race to ink and pen the next Doctors comic adventures.

Support a new Doctor Who fan fiction comic strip!

At the weekend Bleeding Cool reported rumblings that the US Doctor Who licence was likely to be going to either Titan or Boom! – with a late bid by Arcana being pushed with the log line that the BBC would be the company’s only licence.

(We should note here that despite Bleeding Cool’s poor reputation when it comes to lost episodes, they’re almost always on the money when it comes to comic industry stuff.)

The London based Titan Comics proposed buying the UK published Doctor Who Monthly (which holds the UK comics licence for its serialised strips) from Panini and publishing it in line with their other media magazines.

Meanwhile Boom! Comics (who have had enormous success with recent licences like Adventure Time and Regular Show) seemed like an ideal fit thanks to their strong position in the US market – a position strengthen by the recent acquisition of Archaia – their withdrawal from discussions leaves the future of the licence open to question…

Could an announcement be imminent on who’ll replace IDW as the Doctor Who licence holder? What does this mean for the rumoured planned-at-IDW Doctor Who serial written by Mark Waid? And who would you like to see win the race for the licence?

And wouldn’t it be better if one company produced Doctor Who Magazine and the Doctor’s wider exploits in comic strip form?

Three Doctors – But Who Flies the TARDIS?

Christian Cawley is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.

Matt Smith has talked about working with David Tennant on the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special and surprise, surprise, the two actors got on like a collaborative pair of houses on fire!

Doctor Who - 50th Anniversary Special

In the past, actors playing different incarnations of the Doctor in the same story have had rivalries both on and off screen but Smith and Tennant, who are often remarked to as being very nice people, have been building this very special episode on the chemistry that they have together.

Smith discussed that even the littlest things required forward planning and essential sharing:

Our first scene was on the TARDIS! It was me, David [Tennant], and John [Hurt] actually, and we were flying the TARDIS. I remember saying to Dave, “Dave, I don’t want to hog all the flying duties.” Literally, you have those conversations. Seriously, I went, “Do you want to fly it for a bit?” We all flew it. He flies his.

The actor behind the Eleventh Doctor also spoke about his characters relationship with Rose and the Tenth Doctor:

Well first, [Billie Piper] is a great friend of mine anyway. We’ve worked together and I’m very fond of her. She’s wonderful. But yeah, bizarrely, if you look at previous Doctor Who stories, they tend to be quite grouchy with each other, but I think Ten and Eleven actually like each other.

What will be the best of the 50th anniversary we wonder? Ten and Eleven together, their relationship with John Hurt’s Doctor or seeing Rose and Clara trying to interact with three Doctors?

The World Watches Doctor Who Simultaneously!

Christian Cawley is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.

Reports in the press today suggest that Doctor Who will be aired simultaneously around the world on November 23rd’s 50th anniversary!

Celebrate The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary!

In an attempt to break the cycle of spoilers and downloads, the BBC is apparently arranging with BBC America and ABS in Australia to air the episode – which stars Matt Smith, David Tennant, John Hurt, Billie Piper and Jenna-Louise Coleman (and perhaps even Paul McGann) – to schedule the show in simulcast time slots.

What this means for international viewers – if the reports are accurate – is that while UK viewers should be able to tune in around 7pm (this is a guess, of course!) those in LA could be watching at midday, and those in Australia (say Sydney) would need to get up early and enjoy the celebratory episode with their Vegemite on toast on the morning of Sunday November 24th.

This is pretty exciting, as their have been very few simulcasts of non-sporting events over the years, and simultaneously screening the same episode of the same show in several countries at the same time is virtually unheard of…

Watch The Doctor Who Comic Con 2013 Panel! [VIDEO]

Christian Cawley is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.

Where you at the San Diego Comic Con 2013? Did you get the chance to enjoy the Doctor Who panel? If the answer is no to both of those questions, you can catch up now by watching this video!

Featuring the entire panel of Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, David Bradley (William Hartnell in An Adventure in Space and Time), Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, this video sadly doesn’t include the trailers for the dramatisation of Doctor Who‘s early years or the 50th anniversary – but it’s still worth watching if you have the best part of an hour to spare.

Gaiman’s Going Gaming in Wayward Manor

Meredith Burdett is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.

Neil Gaiman has temporarily stepped away from writing books and penning Doctor Who scripts in order to work in a genre that he’s not had any success with previously: video games.

Neil Gaiman slated for second Doctor Who episode!

Gaiman’s first title will be called Wayward Manor and in typical Gaiman style, isn’t your usual computer game.

The story revolves around a ghost who wants to live a peaceful afterlife in his beautiful New England estate but in order to do so, has to get rid of a ‘motley crew’ that are now living there. The story is quite an epic one and runs from the 1920’s all the way to the not too distant future.

Without wanting to give too much of the story away, Gaiman talked briefly about the premise behind Wayward Manor:

I was playing around with an idea essentially about a man and a house over a period of 200 years, thinking how much more fun it would be if the story of this relationship was actually something you could get involved in…In this one all you want to do is be left in peace with your lovely house and be left alone. I don’t want to give anything away but it’s safe to say you were killed in the 1880s and you were killed for a reason.

Gaiman has worked with video game companies before in the late 1990’s but the projects that he put his energy into usually fell through at the last minute due to the various companies, this time however, everything is moving forward very smoothly:

I think the biggest surprise is I did it and got involved in it. Nobody would have expected it and I didn’t have the time. It just got fun and I had to make time.

Making up part of the release is a pre-order opportunity that will offer limited edition merchandise, the chance to name a game character and a private dinner with Gaiman as well! Head to whohauntsneil.com/welcome to learn more…

Miss Matt on the Late Late Show? Watch Now! [VIDEO]

Christian Cawley is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.

If you missed Matt Smith on the The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson yesterday on CBS (you might, for example, live in the United Kingdom…) you can catch the interview right here in what is turning out to be a very video-heavy day on Kasterborous!

In this interview, you’ll hear Matt and Craig discussing the San Diego Comic Con (Craig Ferguson hosted the panel on Sunday), the lack of an online version (either pirated or official…) the Doctor Who star’s plans to move to LA and the fear of ending up doing repertory theatre in Hull…

Caught at the San Diego Comic Con last week, here’s Doctor Who stars Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman being interviewed about the end of the Eleventh.

You’ll see Smith explain how it was “the right time” (is there ever a “right time”?) to leave the TARDIS, and the duo describe the final episode as a “fitting” end…

More 50th Details to Be Revealed?

Meredith Burdett is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.

In America, some big judgements are about to be made. A panel will decide whether certain individuals will be worthy of praise or will receive a massive scorning.

20130725-165551.jpg

No, It’s not America’s Got Talent but the Television Critic Association week in which US TV critics are given the chance to talk to creative teams and stars behind the big TV shows that will be airing in the new season. Watch out Supernatural, you might have to offer some fresher plotlines!

If a show gets a positive response from the TV critics then it’s usually rewarded with fairly high viewing figures, so all the channel representatives are pulling out the big guns in order to wow their selective interviewers.

BBC America will today offer tantalising details to the TCA regarding the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special starring Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt as well as the Mark Gatiss docudrama An Adventure in Space and Time. They will also be promoting Broadchurch as well.

Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker and David Bradley will take the reins for Broadchurch duties whilst Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman and Marcus Wilson will be busy making sure that Doctor Who is promoted to the fullest degree. David Bradley will be answering questions regarding his role as the First Doctor/ William Hartnell in An Adventure in Space and Time.

Let’s just hope that America don’t get another 50th anniversary Doctor Who trailer before we do!
