The Ultimate Small Business Marketing Checklist
Chances are, if you're like me, sometimes you (unfortunately) end up spending more time with your business, than you actually do with your significant other.
So while I won't be giving you roses or chocolates or massages or coffee this Valentine's Day, I think you'll find this equally special.
This is designed to help you and your business get a little more intimate.

How Establishing Goals Will Give You Momentum
I remember it well.

I had worked so, so hard that year, and after reviewing a stack of 1099's, I didn't have much to show for it.
My frustration was rooted in my lack of goals.

Why Groupon is a Bad Deal for Small Businesses
Did you notice?
Daily deal websites aren't all the rage they used to be.
Here's an example...
In November 2011, Groupon made its eagerly anticipated public debut, closing at $26 per share.
Just over a year later, Groupon is fighting death with a share price barely topping $5–quite the illustration of a rapidly evaporating business model.
So if NASDAQ traders took notice, shouldn't small business owners like yourself?

Cupcake Marketing and Differentiation Lessons
There are eleven cupcake businesses in our city. Eleven!
That's the same number of McDonald's, and just slightly less than the number of Starbucks, in the same area.
It's fair to say our city suffers from cupcake saturation.
So in competitive markets like this, how can small businesses differentiate themselves?

How Not To Increase Your Social Media Fan Base [A Rant]
He has 39,000 devoted Twitter followers, and yet, it's not enough.
"Him" being a popular social media figure I admire.
But instead of his witty updates and satirical commentary, his Twitter feed has lately been filled with "Are you following me on Facebook? Why not!?" and "My best work is on Instagram. Are you following me there yet?!" type messages.

How to Inject Emotion into Your Marketing
A coworker has a framed print of emoticons hanging outside her office. Each emoticon is paired with its respective description.
Sad, happy, confused, interested, hungover, etc., etc., etc.
Folks from around the office skim the emotions and identify one they relate to.
My choice was easy -- mischievous.

Why You Can't Follow the Bad Example of Steve Jobs
I'm scared for the future.
Albeit later than most, I just finished reading Steve Jobs (affiliate link).
And while his vision and focus is undoubtedly what made Apple what it is today, you can't help but acknowledge his negative attributes.
