Friday 03/26/2021: Writer’s Life
Hello everyone,
I have four books published with two more in the works. I occasionally see other authors post about their writing habits. Then there are questions from new writers asking about commitment and other writing problems. This week’s blog is about my life as a writer. I am strange so you may not want to follow it, but I hope it helps inspiring writers.
I spend the weekend reviewing stories in my head. There are several plots floating about among other things in my life. I try to reason them down to one cohesive story and then verify it matches the rest of the book. Upon pondering the storyline, it will change and morph over the weekend.
Come Monday morning, it is time to write if the story seems complete in my head. Managing the first sentence is the hardest. Questions like: how do I begin, where do I begin, what should start this chapter, all boggle the mind. Usually, I change the first sentence at least once. Then the rest of the story streams out of my head.
Due to back issues, my sitting time is less than an hour and five hundred words is the norm. Sometimes if the muse is in me, I type out 1000 words but I pay for with tingly feet and a stiff back. It takes two hours recovery for every hour at the computer. By Wednesday or Thursday a new chapter adds to my next book. My current book has a plethora of demons and serpents with a dragon in sight. All the creatures killed by my God fearing heroes.
Fridays are for blogging which keeps me writing and forces me to be creative. During non-writing times, there is editing and advertising to keep me busy.
If you have read any of my books, please leave a review on Goodreads and Amazon.
God bless,
Danny Mac

Friday 03/19/2021: Anniversary Message
Hello everyone,
Twenty-seven years ago today, I married the woman God provided to me. That morning started as any normal day. Then I found myself standing at the alter waiting for my bride to come aisle. It was at that moment the full impact that my life was changing hit me and turned me into a nervous wreck. We held hands as the preacher opened the ceremony. When he turned for just a moment I heard, “You’re crushing my hands!” in a soft meek voice.
Looking down at my hands to saw them tightly bounding my love’s hands. Her fingers appeared crunch together as one unit held in a tight vice grip. The video shows her shaking her hands trying to get the blood back into them.
We went on a honeymoon and settled into an apartment within a week. The following Monday, we both started the spring quarter of college. We quickly became accustomed to each other and one day coming around the corner I asked if she needed anything. In her relaxed state, my voice startled her into jumping practically out of her skin. Her face shined with brightness and amazement. It touched me deep inside.
A week later, while she was in the shower, I managed to sneak up on her a scare her again. The astonishment shined in her again. This became a regular thing of surprising her in the shower. A couple years later we moved to a new town and required a new shower curtain. She scrutinized the different ones stopping on a clear one. “Don’t get that one” was my request.
“Why” asked her.
“Get the opaque one because it is easier to sneak up on you.” My darling bride scoffed at my request. A young woman standing next to us perusing the towels states out loud, “Why do men do that?” I had no answer for her that day.
Then earlier this week, Tammy exited the bedroom as I approached from the other direction. She popped out the door and I was right there to her amazing astonishment. Her face lit up like it did the first time twenty-seven years ago. As she laughed with fright, she slapped my arm and said, “I need to put a bell on you.”
So, to the young lady’s question all those years before, that is why men sneak up on the loving bride to scare them. We want to capture the innocence of youth and see our loving wives in full of amazement and wonder. She appeared like the day I said, “I do.”

Friday 03/5/2021: Being a Deacon
Hello everyone,
I was reminded this week of my many years as a Deacon at my Church. The way I saw the role of Deacon was to serve the individual physical needs of the Church and work up to the corporate spiritual needs of the Church. Deacons are a branch of the Elders who work from corporate to individual and spiritual to physical. Between the two approaches, the plan is to tend to everyone’s need within the Church. The problem is, we are human and I am sure there were people left without help.
Along with finances, I found myself gravitating to serving the elderly of the Church. There were a few cases where they needed financial help, but most of the time they only asked for direction. Like a widow asking about a dripping faucet. She didn’t know if a plumper was required or is that something she can fix. Another Deacon and myself went to her home and replaced the washer to reseal the faucet. It stopped leaking.
She insisted on paying us but we refused and asked her to put it in the collection plate. The O ring washer was a quarter. We noticed her cutters were full and said we made time to come back and help her with that. After pointing it out to her, she said, “I have grandsons that owe me a favor, they will do it.”
There was a widower who said he had trouble with laundry for a while but with help from his sister, he figured it out. My point of this is to show sometimes all the elderly need is a person to point them in the right direction. As I approach that age faster than ever, I am beginning to understand their feelings. I urge all of you to look after the elderly in your life. Call them, visit them, and be there for them. Most of the time that is all they need.
If you have read any of my books, please leave a review on Goodreads and Amazon. The Fighting son has been out for five weeks and goes on sale for $0.99 next Saturday, March 6th.
God bless,
Danny Mac

Friday 02/27/2021: Fettuccini Alfredo
Hello everyone,
I am a day late writing this blog. Life happens and my upper back has been giving me grieve. It is no fun to write when your shoulders are stiff as a board. Feeling better today and I can provide you with some insight into my life.
When still in high school, I went to a friend’s house. His mother was making Fettuccini Alfredo. Already into cooking, I watched carefully as she made the sauce.
Ingredients:
Butter 1 stick (1/4 pound)
AP flour 2 ounces
Heavy cream 1 quart
Parmesan cheese 2 cups
Salt and pepper to taste
In a sauce pan melt half a stick (2 oz.) of butter under medium low heat until it stops sizzling. Add the flour and cook until a nutty smell comes to your nose. Add the heavy cream and bring to temperature. Be patient and do not turn up the heat, it is a delicate sauce and breaks easily. The sauce will thicken slightly and coat evenly on the back of a spoon. Gradually add the parmesan in four helpings bringing back to temperature between each helping. Add the remaining butter 1/8” pat at a time, making sure each pat completely melts before adding the next. Add salt and pepper to taste. Please note, grind your own pepper on the finest setting. You don’t want to see black flakes in the sauce. (You can kick the sauce up a notch by grating several strokes of nutmeg into it.)
Your fettuccine should be done soon after the sauce. Serve with garlic bread and a tossed salad of greens.
This is not a recipe for the faint of heart. It is rich and thick and carries a lot of fat in it. I would pair with a white crisp wine to clean the palate as you eat. If you are a beer drinking think IPA or lighter lager.
If you have read any of my books, please leave a review on Goodreads and Amazon. The Fighting son has been out for four weeks and goes on sale next Sunday, March 6th.
God bless,
Danny Mac

Friday 02/19/2021: Forgiveness
Hello everyone,
I was wondering what to write about this week and drawing a blank. So my wife and I went grocery shopping. I bought my in-law’s groceries and she bought ours. Surprisingly, we were at the store for just a half hour.
We were returning home, just two blocks from the store, when an old pickup truck crossed the double yellow line into my lane to get to his turning lane. I had to slam on the brakes to keep us out of a head on collision. We were traveling 25 mph, but still that would have been a rather bad ending to a nice shopping spree. The other driver kept on like nothing was wrong.
This self-serving act by the other driver upset and angered me. I gave him the one finger salute and called him an anal sphincter. The sudden stop caused our milk to fly forward and crush the top but not breaking the jug. My wife yelled at me for my gesture and the descriptive use of a bodily part. She was quick to point out my self-serving act of retaliation.
Thinking back on it, it was a release of excitement in a stressful situation, but it didn’t show forgiveness for my fellow person in this world. It felt good in the moment, but now I realize my anger drove me to sin against another person. I should have shown forgiveness of the Lord in the moment, but I chose to return hate for hate.
Only by recognizing my faults am I able to grow in the Lord and become the man he wants me to be.
If you have read any of my books, please leave a review on Goodreads and Amazon. The Fighting son has been out for three weeks and The Genuine Daughter is 99 cents until Sunday morning at 11:00 EST.
God bless,
Danny Mac

Friday 02/12/2021: What’s a Henway?
Hello everyone,
I like dad jokes. Stopped by the post office and asked if there were any restrictions on shipping a henway? Then stop at grocery store and asked what vegetable pairs well with a henway? Then asked a woman can I wear a henway with a scarf? They all asked “What’s a henway?” To all, I reply with straight face, “Ohh, 3 or 4 pounds.”
Life is short and God is good. God asks us to love and enjoy him forever. The second half of the commandment is love your neighbor. I choose to love my neighbor by spreading dad jokes. Either the people love to hear my dad joke or they love when I leave them after telling the dad joke. Whichever camp you are in, love God and enjoy him forever.
Some of my favorite dad jokes:
Cashier: Would you like your milk in the bag.
Me: No, it taste better out of the bottle and not as messy carrying it home.
Wife: Have you seen the dog bowl?
Me: Didn’t know she knew how, does she need a special bowling ball for it.
Wife asked me to put ketchup on the grocery list. Now I am in trouble because she cannot read it.
Wife: Do you want dinner?
Me: What are my choices?”
Wife: Yes or no.
I told my wife she was painting her eyebrows too high. She looked surprised.

Friday 02/05/2021 What is love?
Hello everyone,
The world revolves around love. What is love?
There are four types of love. First is the love from God. This is a reverent love. It is deep and concerns itself with all aspects of life and wellbeing. This best describes God love for the people. We should carry this love to one and other.
The second form of love is friendship. This is the love between friends and focuses on helping each other through life. This love wants a person to be with the other person in good times and bad. It remains even after many years of separation.
The third love is sibling love. This loves shows it best resolve in a young brother and sister. They fight with each other, argue constantly, and yet they cannot stand to be away from each other for more than five minutes. This love bonds people on a deeper level than can be imagined.
The fourth love is passion. This love is most prevalent in a young couple newly married. There is an urgent yearning to be with each other. In marriage, this love brings a young couple together so that the other loves may develop.
Without all four loves active, a marriage is suspect to failure. As time passes, passionate love wanes but the other three grow stronger. Passion never goes away, but it is no longer the driving force in a marriage. This is the old couple you see walking down a lane talking side by side.
Movies and books like showing off the passionate love because it is exciting and fun. I rather show all four loves in my writing. My protagonist love their spouses in this complete manner.
If you have read any of my books, please leave a review on Goodreads and Amazon.
God bless,
Danny Mac

Friday 01/29/2021 My Dog is a Caren pt. 3
Hello everyone,
A hallmark trait of a Caren is they believe the world revolves around them. Again, my dog Ginger is the embodiment of this definition. Ginger likes to sleep on my side of the bed when I am not. Arriving at my bed as the day reaches its last few minutes, I nudge her to move. This prompts her to answer, “humminim” in a low moan to show her displeasure with being disturbed. I go to the bathroom and prepare for bed. Upon returning she hasn’t moved.
Now, I nudge her a little firmer and state, “Move over little dog, big dog is coming to bed.” She uncurls her body and stands with the usual moaning and groaning she aims at me since I dared to disrupt her sleep. She slinks off the bed, sits and stares at me because after all it is my fault her sleep was interrupted. Before she curls up into her bed, I have to throw her blanket on her so the sleep comfortably all night.
Of course, in the middle of the night she gets up, kicks her bed to a new position that is more suitable for her taste. This means she ends up in the middle of any paths my wife and I may take. So, we have to be careful if we wake in the middle of the night and want to use the bathroom. If we manage to trip over her, again it is our fault and we gather another grumble.
Check out my web page as The Fighting son, the third in the series of Flying People, is available this weekend.

Friday 01/22/2021 My Dog is a Karen pt. 2
Hello everyone,
Listening to stories about Karens, they are self-centered creatures believing the world revolves around them with a very short attention span. When something does grab their attention, they hang onto the glimmer of truth even though looking at the bigger picture, it is not true. This is my dog.
We have a bell for her to ring when she wants out. The other day while writing a chapter in my next book I hear the bell ring. I mosey down the stairs to her door and as I approach, mom moves upstairs. This catches her attention and she races away to see mom in the kitchen. I get back to where I was, catch the rhythm before the interruption, and then Bing Bing goes her bell. I get up and go to let her out and my favorite daughter moves from her room. Zoom up the steps the dog races to see her sister. Maybe she will drop a snack in the middle of the afternoon.
I become settled at my desk again and review where I was to begin writing again. Then a marvelous thought crosses my mind of a quick anecdote within the chapter. It is funny and witty while keeping with character of the people in the story. My fat fingers hunt and peck the keys with a flurry as the thought humorously leaves my brain. In the middle of this amazing segment, I hear Bing, Bing and I speed up my typing. However, my delay and the fact she put it off two times before, my dog has a full blown Karen attack and hits the bell five more times until she sees me coming down the steps.
If you have read any of my books, please leave a review on Goodreads and Amazon.
God bless,

Friday 01/15/2021 My Dog
Hello everyone,
It has come to my attention this week my dog is a Karen. She believes the world revolves around her and she barks at anything that doesn’t agree with this thought. If she is sleeping and you make a noise or do something to disturb said sleep, she will groan and grumble. She believes anything left on the counter is hers for the taking including molecules of food left after cleaning. When someone tells her to stay off the counter she will give a small growl of disappointment followed by a look of why are we are denying her rights given by her authority to lick the counters. If I am in the bedroom getting dressed or sitting in the bathroom contemplating life’s struggles and don’t secure the door, she will rudely kick the door open and give a look of “How dare you” or “I never.” The only thing she has not done is ask for the manager, which she would do, if she could talk.
It been a quite a week in our house. My wife inherited my stomach problems and feeling the burn. So, we are on a bland diet until it is under control. This week specials include all sort of low fat foods with minimal seasoning and spices. I could make two dinners, one for her and one for the rest of us, but I am too lazy for that and eat bland as well. She is starting to feel better as we are trying to become more active in the winter months under Covid restrictions.
I started another book this week in the Flying People Series. It follows the three main characters as they use their powers to help other people with their usual problems and there are more unusual creatures from an alternative dimension require their supernatural ability. I am currently working on chapter two and hope to have it done by the end of summer. Pray for my ability to see the plot and characters clearly.
If you have read any of my books, please leave a review on Goodreads and Amazon.
God bless,

It has come to my attention this week my dog is a Karen. She believes the world revolves around her and she barks at anything that doesn’t agree with this thought. If she is sleeping and you make a noise or do something to disturb said sleep, she will groan and grumble.
