Pre-pub ILLUMINATE Adventures in NYC!

I heart NY! And I was lucky enough to get to breeze into the Big Apple for some ILLUMINATE-themed good times last week. A million thank you's to fabulous publicist extraordinaire Rachel at HMH for putting together the most amazing luncheon at the Bowery Hotel's Gemma and giving me the chance to chat with a fantastic group of journalists and librarians.

The hotel is beyond charming: funky-cozy-chic and perfect for a chilly winter day. (My second favorite hotel, behind ILLUMINATE's Lexington, of course!)

We had this adorable candlelit room done up with all sorts of special ILLUMINATE-inspired touches…

Three courses of total deliciousness and check out this awesome place setting: everyone got tasty chocolates (perhaps delivered by Haven and Lance?) and see that little card with the book's cover peeking out to the right of the chocolates? That's a mock hotel keycard! How amazing is that?! Rachel tells me there are extras of these. If I get my hands on them, there just might be another giveaway soon, stay tuned…

Anyway, we were there for hours because we had so much fun. Here's me with my brilliant editor, Julie Tibbott, who gave such a sweet toast it made me blush. I love Team HMH! (Thanks to the lovely Chelsey Philpot of School Library Journal for snapping this shot, by the way!)

I capped off the day with a girls'-night-out dinner with Julie, Rachel and my wonderful agent Stephanie at Barbounia downtown (yum!) after which I narrowly escaped disaster on the way back to my hotel when I almost wiped out in the middle of Times Square walking too fast in these shoes:

Before skipping town the next morning, I dropped in to the Us Weekly offices to say a quick hi to the gang. (Miss you guys!) PS: Have you seen their wonderful Hunger Games movie coverage? Check out a sneak peek here!

A whirlwind trip, but such a blast–thanks to everyone for showing me such a good time. Gotta get back to NYC more often!
