Cat's Tale: A Fairy Tale Retold
Title: Cat's Tale: A Fairy Tale Retold
Publisher: Carina Press
Pub Date:27 June 2011
ISBN: 9781426891809
Author: Sharpe, Bettie
'Cat's Tale: A Fairy Tale Retold' by Bettie Sharpe is a really good story. This is the kind of fairy tale where the main character is not exactly a perfect, kind, faultless being but a human who is learning to be a better person along the way.
This book teaches me alot about retribution and second chances. Seriously speaking, I could relate this book to real life. But the only thing that's different in real life is that 'lying tarts' who cares for nothing but about their own pleasures does not exactly deserves a second chance, especially when they made the lives of others difficult or miserable while they go off to Carribean or something to shake their booties or sip some exotic drinks while sunbathing in the beach. I cannot understand how could such creature exists? I mean, how could someone so black-hearted and evil as to take pleasure as other suffer as a consequence of their action? That is beyond my comprehension.
Anyway, the plot of the story is highly original and I feel as if I couldn't get enough of the story. It is too short for me, and I wish that the story is a tad longer.
Kudos to the writer for this wonderfully written story. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I received an ARC of this book from Carina Press via Netgalley and I was not under any obligation to write a postive review for this boo. I was not compensated in any ways for this.
Book description:
Once upon a time there was a scheming, lying tart who cared for nothing but her own pleasures and her shoe collection.
Once the peerlessly beautiful Lady Catriona, consort to the king, Cat's fortunes fall far when her aged husband dies. The king's wizard turns her into a cat and tries to drown her in the mill pond. Fortunately Cat is a clever survivor and enlists the help of Julian, the miller's youngest son, in her plan for revenge.
She originally sees Julian as a mere pawn for her plans to break her curse, but as they work together Cat comes to know and care for him. Even if the curse can be broken, can a good-hearted man love a woman who has been as vain and selfish as Cat?

Misinformed on facts about sugar in growing up milk
Raising a special child can be extremely challenging. Emotionally and socially speaking. Emotionally… because they are not like other normal children and whether you like it or not, you got to lower your expectations, or rather, in my case, learn to have no expectation at all so that I don't get all stressed up or disappointed when there's no improvements. Socially challenging… because of people's ignorance and tendency to judge you and your children.
Since I had my boy and realized that he is different, I became quite a recluse and tend to avoid going to social functions… especially the ones hosted by the outlaws, cuz they tend to be judgmental and refused to understand that the boy is ADHD child and therefore, the way you deal with him have to be different.
People who do not bother to understand what ADHD is, usually would condemn me for being a horrible mother. I've been called many things, both to my face and behind my back. They call me a bad mother and accuse me for failing to raise the child in a proper manner and therefore he could not sit still and have zero social skill and worst, a tiger mother as I strictly control his diet, especially his sugar intake. I cannot afford any excessive sugar intake in his diet as it leads to many health issues that I don't wish to deal with.
They say I am taking the childhood joys out of the boy's life while in truth, I cannot afford to give him any extra sugar in his diet (eg: ice cream, candies), cuz medically, it is not good for him. For other children, perhaps it is not good because it will cause diabetes, obesity and not to mention tooth decay, but for my boy, it triggers hyperactivity and not only he gets hyper, but also extremely uncontrollable and will hurt himself.
I controlled his diet because I truly care, not because I want to take away his childhood from him. I did it because the pediatrician and his therapists advices me so.
As of late, I have been told that the growing up milk that he's taking contains high sugar level despite of the fact that the milk formula claims to have no added sugar inside. I get extremely worked up though I don't see any bad effects after my boy change to this growing up milk formula. The information that I found all over the net and various social media is extremely confusing, and I've come to a point where I don't know what to believe anymore.
Call me a paranoid, but I had enough of all these information overload. I want whatever that goes into my boy's body be the best for him. And I need to assure myself that I'm on the right track and so, I make it my personal mission to discover the truth about various claims on sugar and added sugar in growing up milk.
I have been told by mummies and daddies out there that:
Not all carbohydrates are sugar. Some scientific names for sugar that is being used on the label cannot be considered as sugar. (eg: Corn syrup solids, glucose syrup solids, sucrose)
Children need carbohydrates, and therefore, the added sugar in growing up milk is fine.
It is fine to give children who has lactose issues or lactose intolerance growing up milk that contains excessive sugar or natural sugar that comes from plants.
As long as the sugar content comes from natural source, it is fine to allow the kids to take it.
And most worrying comment of all is that I have been informed that the no added sugar milk formula that I'm using my my son now contains total sugar that is higher than the ones that has added sugar in their formula.
Frankly speaking, all these opinions on cyberspace is confusing and therefore, I checked with various independent bodies who are non-commercial in nature. That way, I suppose their facts and opinions are much more solid and believable. (It definitely helps, especially if they are doctors and dietitians)
I've checked with my son's specialist during my recent visit regarding to this issue cuz I was worried, and I have been told that:
Sugars are sugars, and no matter what name is being used to call it (sucrose, natural sugar, added sugar, corn sugar, etc), it is still sugar, cuz at the end of the day when it's inside the child's body, the excessive sugar will be processed and ended up as sugar and extra calories inside the body.
True, sugars are not necessarily bad as it provides children the energy that they need to grow up. But it becomes a problem when the amount is excessive and much higher than the daily recommended intake as it increase the chances of various health problems.
And surprise, surprise, carbohydrates in growing up milk powder is only made up of two things: -Sugar that is naturally present in the milk powder. The only naturally present sugar in milk is lactose. The natural lactose level in a glass of standard milk is approximately 11g-12g per serve. And sugars that are added to the milk powder. Anything higher than 11g-12g for 'carbohydrate per serve' in growing up milk powder is equal to added sugars ( according to Handbook of dairy foods and nutrition.)
Now… all these facts are scary, aren't they? It's creepier for me cuz I cannot afford to let my son take growing up milk that has excessive sugar as it will trigger extreme hyperactivity since he's an ADHD child. As a parent, not only I am responsible for my son's well being, but I am responsible to make an informed decision in regards to choosing his growing up milk too.
Many may not agree with me, but is my rights to protect my son from any health hazards that I can avoid in the first place. I can start by smell steps like choosing the right growing up milk for him.
It is not difficult to choose growing up milk that does not contain excessive sugar in their formula. All you need to do is just spend a little bit more time to read the label and decode the added sugar in growing up milk formula. If all of you bothered to check for the expiry dates for the goods that you intend to buy, why not bother to check the sugar contents in growing up milk too?
Mummies and daddies, here's some tips on how you can make a much more informed decision when choosing the right growing up milk formula that does not contains excessive sugar or added sugar for your children:
Find the number for 'carbohydrates per serve' on the packaging label. Anything that is higher than 11g-12g is added sugar.
Watch out for the ingredients like: Sucrose, corn syrup solids as well as glucose syrup solids. These, ladies and gentlemen, are ingredients for added sugar.
Anyway, how many of you out there bothered to taste you kid's growing up milk? After all of these horrible hoo-hahs, I decided to try my boy's growing up milk… you know, just to exorcise away the claim that there's more sugar in his milk than other brands. Thank God that despite of various claims, the milk that he's been drinking is not sweet.
I wonder if your kid's growing up milk taste sweet? Perhaps you might want to experiment a little bit and see for yourself if it's sweet by tasting your kid's growing up milk, and if it is, then it is time to act and stop giving your children those unnecessary sugar. Milk are not supposed to taste like liquid ice cream, you know?
If you have doubts about the growing up milk your children are drinking, do not hesitate to hook up with your medical consultants or your pediatrician. They can clarify and give you more information like they did for me, and if you need some independent, non-commercial resource on sugar in growing up milk and whatnot, you can visit the sites below:
Cleffairy: Mummies and daddies, do feel free to leave a comment here and share your opinions with me regarding choosing the right growing up milk for your children. I am sure all of us are looking out for our children and wants nothing but the best for them during their growing up years.

Happy Father's Day
Happy father's day to all fathers out there. Initially I wanted to write something long winded and meaningful, but then again, I'm not really feeling inspired at the moment. Down with the lazy bug syndrome and keep feeling sorry for myself for feeling bloody down.
Tsk tsk. Time for some 'leave me alone' therapy or 'buy myself something to keep myself feel rewarded' therapy again.
Anyway, I'm straying. Here's my favourite father-daughter song, dedicated especially for my father and my grandfather.
Cleffairy: And why no special greetings for my husband? Well… it's just like someone said last month during mother's day… I am not his mother- so no greetings or pressies. Same goes with father's day… he's also not my father, so no greetings or pressies. ROFLOL!

Top Five Myths Bankruptcy – #1
As consumer debt has skyrocketed to over $3 Trillion, many believe the only way out from under the mountain of bills is to declare bankruptcy. But is it right for you? Many myths persist to misinform the public.
"Probably the worst myth about bankruptcy is that you need to be flat broke before you should file," says Sacramento bankruptcy attorney Gerald B. Glazer. "It is not good to wait until creditors are knocking on your door," according to Glazer. Planning can prepare you for a bankruptcy that causes the least amount of financial disruption.

Cheesy Potato Croquettes
I went to my regular egg supplier the other day, and I realized that they are also selling huge sacks of potatoes for Rm5 or Rm6 each, depending on what kind of potatoes there is inside the sacks. I got into my frugal mode and grabbed a huge sack of 8 kg for Rm6.
When I came home, it occurred to me that the supply can last for more than a week for my family, and I decided to get creative with it. Initially, I wanted to make rosti out of it (Rosti is a traditional Swiss dish made out of shredded potatoes) but rostis are rather bland to my liking. I opted to make potato croquettes instead.
Here's sharing the recipe with you.
Ingredients:
1 kg of boiled potatoes
2 eggs, nicely beaten up
Cheddar cheese/bacon bits (optional)
KFC powder
Oil for frying (or if you prefer, you can bake it in the oven… but my oven goes KABOOM on me… so… yeah…)
Scrub your potatoes clean and boil them til they are fully cooked. Drain them and leave it to cool for 1 hour… or overnight in the fridge.
Shred or mash them up. Not too finely, though. You wouldn't want to have mushy texture as it will break while you're frying it.
Crack your eggs into a bowl and beat them up with 2 table spoon of KFC powder.
Add in some mozzarella cheese/cheddar cheese/bacon bits. Pour in the egg mixture and mix them well.
Heat up the oil and fry them up til golden brown.
Ooops… duzzin look so nice, but you can serve it with steak, rice or even eat it on it's own with some dips.
Looks can be deceiving. I assure you that it's yummy. Only 3 was left for me when I served them to my two hungry boys. >.< My husband says it tasted like cheesy hash brown.
Cleffairy: Hmm… perhaps I could make my own nuggets next. *GRINZ*

Breaking Dawn Official Trailer
OMG! Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn official trailer is out! OMG! I've been waiting for this for quite some time now and now I finally can watch it on youtube~! Okay, I hope I don't sound too much like a squealing fangirl, but here's sharing the trailer. I'm so excited. Breaking Dawn is my favourite novel among all the books in Twilight Saga. Let's just say I'm a hopeless romantic, and I just love the romance in the final book.
From the trailer… hardcore novel fans of Twilight Saga can now be relieved. ROFLOL. See.. there's the hot bed-biting making love session as well as foreplay in the water. I'm sure lotsa lotsa feathers will be involved too. That's just what we're all waiting for, isn't it? Admit it girls… we all have the hots for men who breaks the bed's headboard out of passion for us…
Not Edward's fan but fancies Jacob instead? No worries Jacob's fan can be rest assured too. Our sweetheart Jake can never keep his shirt on for long and he'll be throwing off his shirt again and again and show off his body for all to see.
*cough* Men will hate this movie for sure…Breaking Dawn definitely raise the expectation on men's performance in bed. *COUGH*
Cleffairy: "Before you, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars — points of light and reason. And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty. When you were gone, when the meteor had fallen over the horizon, everything went black. Nothing had changed, but my eyes were blinded by the light. I couldn't see the stars anymore. And there was no more reason for anything."

There's no accident or coincidence, only reasons.
I don't believe in accidents or coincidence. I believe that things happened for a reason, especially if it is bad things. If bad things happened to me a few years back, I might not be able to see it as a blessing in disguise. I would cry foul and point finger to the sky and blame God for being unfair and not listening to my prayers, but now, I can see that things happened for a reason, and God never answer your prayers at your convenience, but at His when the time is truly right.
He is the epitome of mercy and justice. He will give you justice, and it's just the matter of time before he showed it to you. All you have to do is be patient and take everything in life as His will and learn to listen to Him follow His plans.
You see, I did not believe in Him back then… or rather, I felt that He no longer love me and I was not worthy of His love, and therefore, He was no longer with me. But as time goes by, I could see that God is always with me. It was me who was not with Him. And he was trying hard to get me back into His arms by showing me things that I could not see through the things that's going on in my life. He loved me, and that is why bad things happened: to show me truth, and how the world is really like.
I've been working very hard lately. I took extra projects and whatnot so that I could save for the rainy day. But out of the sudden, my netbook died on me. Well, it did not exactly died on me, but it was not chargeable when I plugged it to the adapter. Consequently, I could not do work. I wanted to cry as there was dateline to be met and the workload was practically piling. But I took a deep breath, say a prayer, and took it as a blessing.
I was thinking that surely something good could come out for this. God must have known that I've been working too hard, and since I refused to take a rest, he made me take a rest by making my netbook 'rest'. And so, taking it as a sign from Him, I shut it down, turned away from the table, and took a good rest by relaxing and spending time with my family.
I was amazed, really. My husband not only did not scowl at me for messing up the netbook or made me feel bad, but he comforted me instead and told me not to worry as he'll set up a desktop for me to use temporarily until he figured out what's wrong with my netbook.
I appreciates this very much cuz he's extremely busy and shouldn't be disturbed right now as he's supposed to take another round of exam next week. I did not wish to disrupt his concentration, but he assured me that it's all right and even promised me that if it can't be repaired, he'll buy me a new one (and in respond, I told him I'll pay half). I was really touched. To others, this may be nothing, but to me, this is alot, especially when it cost my husband precious studying time and possibly, money too.
And so, my husband set-up another PC for me to use, which is operating under different operating system that I am not exactly familiar with: FreeBSD- A Unix based operating system. (My netbook was running on Ubuntu Netbook Remix). I fiddled around with it and I learned to use one more operating system. This is good, isn't it? If my netbook did not died on me that day, I wouldn't have bothered to learn to use something else besides Mac, Windows and Ubuntu. Because of this, I've broadened my horizon a little bit in the field of computing and Open Source.
And because my netbook was not chargeable and there was no power going through it, and I couldn't possibly continue doing my work. And because of it, I was forced to put work aside and just relax and reminded myself that I ought to backup my netbook regularly in case of such thing happens again.
My husband took some time to unwind too and spent…. ahemm… quality time with me. I suppose the boy enjoyed it too, considering the mummy is not completely glued to the PC or forcing him to sit beside her and practice his writing as she do her own work and is able to bring him out for a stroll and eating out.
Anyway, at the end of the day, we went to the shop and get them to service the netbook for us (since it's a branded netbook and couldn't be 'dissect' or the warranty would be void), and we were told that the adapter conked out, and therefore, the netbook couldn't be turned on and the battery was not chargeable.
We paid for a new adapter, and I was singing praises for Him deep inside cuz we not only do not need to buy a new netbook, but we get to spend quality time together. It's been a long time since I feel this way and I am forever grateful to Him for making me stop working for a day and enjoy what life and people around me had to offer. Now that I' feel much more relaxed and after a really fun break from work, I can now work much in a much more efficient manner since my mind and body is refreshed.
This little glitch made me feel closer to Him too. It made me think of practicing Sabbath. Hmm. I wonder if I could accomplish that?
On a much more romantic note, I feel much more connected to my husband since he started studying again. I am sure this is His doing too. God does work in mysterious way, does he not?
Cleffairy: There's no accident or coincidence, only reasons. You just have to learn to open your eyes and see the reasons.
ps: Thank you for the new adapter and the new mouse.

King Solomon: The Temptations of Money, Sex, and Power
Title: King Solomon
SubTitle: The Temptations of Money, Sex, and Power
Publisher: Crossway
Pub Date: 31 July 2011
ISBN: 9781433521546
Author: Philip Graham Ryken
How well do we know the Biblical King, Solomon who was featured in and the Book of Chronicles and the Book of Kings?
When I was a little girl, I see King Solomon as a wise man who knew everything in life because God bestowed him such wisdom. When I grew up a little bit and was a dreamy, hopelessly romantic teenager, I see him as a seductive man who easily seduced the Queen of Sheba with his endless wits. And when I'm an adult, I see him as a man whose downfall was caused by lust and disobedience toward God's will.
How do you see King Solomon from the Old Testament, I wonder? This book, King Solomon: The Temptations of Money, Sex, and Power written by Philip Graham Ryken is an in depth study of the Biblical's king's life, from cradle to his grave.
It was very well written and researched, and I definitely enjoyed being enlightened by this book. Inspiring read.
A forewarning to those who wants to read this book: You'll spend a lot of time thinking, so be prepared to think alot if you're to pick up this book.
I rate this book 5 stars. I received an ARC of this book from Crossway publisher via Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review for this book and I was not compensated in any ways for this.
Book description:
Though the world's wisest king, Solomon's heart was led astray by temptations of wealth, sex, and power. And we face the same dangers today, though the temptations may be different in degree and detail.
Author Philip Ryken writes, "In witnessing Solomon's moral triumphs and sinful failures we learn how to live more wisely. By the grace of God, we may avoid a tragic downfall of our own and learn how to use money, sex, and power for the glory of God."
Tracing Solomon's life from coronation to burial—and from godly devotion to self-serving excess—Ryken shows readers how to avoid similar downfalls and seek God's glory amid earthly temptations. These thirteen chapters are pastoral, rich in application, and biblically faithful. This overview of Solomon's life also includes a study guide, making it a great resource for both personal and group use.
