Buffet Lunch at Bayou Lagoon Park Resort Day 1

After checking-in to our respective rooms, us Sahabat Media were ushered to lunch. Initially I thought we will be having our lunch at Bayou Lagoon Park Resort’s in-house restaurant&cafe, but I was wrong. We were all ushered to the hall specially reserved for us located opposite of the pool and arcade for lunch instead. I was informed that the food catered is what usually you will get if you booked the hall for catering services or seminar. Now, I’ve reviewed plenty of hotels and restaurants and if I were to be completely honest, I’d say that not all hotel food tastes good, but I’m petty impressed with the taste and the varieties of buffet selection here at Bayou Lagoon Park Resort.

Hall where we had our lunch during the first day, and some meals during the rest of our stay here.

There was an a la minute counter outside where hot, spicy and creamy curry noodles was on the menu.

 photo IMG_20140822_123518_zpss0yckruq.jpg

Condiments for mee curry. You may pick anything you like and top it into your bowl of noodles.

 photo IMG_20140822_130054_zpsqmydbmfl.jpg

Mee curry. Tastes all right. It hits all the right notes with the spices and the creamy coconut milk, but personally I would prefer it much more if there was accompanying cockles. Mee curry simply feels incomplete without them.

 photo IMG_20140822_123731_zpszrug8jg1.jpg

Salad counter was available for those who can’t live without their greens.

 photo IMG_20140822_123738_zpsgo8slpov.jpg

Sliced cooling cucumber

 photo IMG_20140822_123742_zps4f6dd20x.jpg

Juicy tomatoes will definitely make a great addition if you are to assemble a salad.

 photo IMG_20140822_123755_zpsqcsnkhtk.jpg

Colourful capsicum strips.

 photo IMG_20140822_123550_zpsrzsjwfyv.jpg

Generous buffet spread awaits us

 photo IMG_20140822_123601_zpsuqjljnza.jpg

Prawn salad‘s presentation beckons me. Taste wise? The little prawns was fresh, sweet and juicy while the Thousand Island dressing complements the dish perfectly.

 photo IMG_20140822_123610_zpsveb7z6x8.jpg

Stuffed tofu. I gave this a miss but hubby says it’s all right. Nothing to complain and nothing to shout about either. Makes quite a filling appetizer so sample sparingly if you are in a buffet.

 photo IMG_20140822_123625_zpsuuagdbdk.jpg

Potato salad was all right too. Flavourful and the potatoes are not undercooked or too mushy either.

 photo IMG_20140822_123955_zpsrkoujjrz.jpg

Kerabu tauge. Avoided this like a plague cuz I’m allergic to it.

 photo IMG_20140822_124007_zpslnq5ztu7.jpg

Sambal ikan billis was great. The fried anchovies was flavourful, sweet, crunchy and bursting with flavours. Pair this with steamed white rice you’re good to go.

 photo IMG_20140822_124339_zpssf7yvdlj.jpg

Chicken curry was flavourful enough and not overly spicy either.

 photo IMG_20140822_124342_zps3e6tdrer.jpg

Fish curry. I did not sample this. Not really a big fan of fish and I tend to avoid eating fishes.

 photo IMG_20140822_124347_zpsk5gxgnkh.jpg

Kambing Dendeng was a sensational dish and I broke my own rules of not having any dish twice at a buffet. I actually had three scoops of these to go with my white rice that day. That’s how good it was. It tastes authentic with all the myriad of spices and the meat was juicy and tender. No weird lamb smell whatsoever. A must try if they serve this in a buffet. Goes well with both rice and bread.

 photo IMG_20140822_124412_zpszpixfs6b.jpg

Stewed Lamb was sensational too. Mild in flavour and not overly overwhelming to the taste. The lamb meat was tender and fatty. I like this dish too and yes…this dish could have tempted me for seconds, but I preferred the local Kambing Dendeng more than the western way of cooking.

 photo IMG_20140822_124353_zpswkv7mqyl.jpg

Udang Goreng Berempah was great. The prawns used was juicy, fresh and succulent and was bursting with flavours.

 photo IMG_20140822_124424_zpsfkj1ldac.jpg

Garlic Roasted Potatoes was mediocre. I thought it could use more flavour and was rather tasteless. I would prefer this more if it was much saltier with a hint of butter in it. Such a shame, cuz I am a huge fan of anything potatoes and this dish failed to appeal me.

 photo IMG_20140822_124359_zpsebtfd78q.jpg

Fu Yong Eggs are fluffy, but it could use abit more salt in it.

 photo IMG_20140822_124430_zpsdkk6cioj.jpg

Stir Fried Butter Veggies. Gave this a miss so no comments on how it tastes.

 photo IMG_20140822_123837_zpsgmnev0it.jpg

Popiah/Spring rolls was crunchy and adeptly fried.

 photo IMG_20140822_123651_zpst3kxiphm.jpg

Butter Cake was a tad dry to my liking but my son loves this.

 photo IMG_20140822_123639_zpsxy2mou1j.jpg

Moist Chocolate Cake was lovely and perfectly baked. Not cloyingly sweet.

 photo IMG_20140822_123659_zpsgcfelcbz.jpg

Cream Cake. Did not try this one but thumbs up for the presentation.

 photo IMG_20140822_123848_zpsv2oljxry.jpg

Sponge Cake was okay. Nothing to praise and nothing to shout about either.

Overall the variety of food provided during the lunch buffet was fantastic and the food was fabulous. Not exactly spectacular and lavish buffet spread but it was pretty enjoyable and decent to me. There was a decent selection on appetizers, mains and dessert.

Bayou Lagoon Park Resort Melaka

If you happen to be my friend on Facebook and have been observing my status update you would probably realize that August is quite an emotional roller coaster ride for me, for various reasons. One being…a traumatizing incident that have been haunting me since last year. I couldn’t control my thoughts, especially when I’m asleep, resulting to nightmares, but I’m determined as ever to move on, hence, when my husband, my son and I was invited by MMode and Santai Travel on the behalf of Tourism Malaysia to join Cuti Cuti Malaysia Negeri Melaka program with Sahabat Media in conjunction of Visit Malaysia 2014 as travel blogger, I was absolutely ecstatic!

I took a look at the tentative, and noticed that we will be making visits at a lot of interesting places in Melaka. I was absolutely thrilled! Here is my chance to get out of my cave and reconnects with the beautiful world again.

It was 22nd August 2014, and we departed to our destination, the historical state of from Matic Jalan Ampang at about 9am and arrives in Melaka 2 hours later.

Our first stop? Our accommodation, of course. Our 3D2N accommodation was sponsored by Bayou Lagoon Park Resort, located in Bukit Katil, Melaka.

 photo IMG_20140822_112052_zpsefkgqzp5.jpg

Bayou Lagoon Park Resort reception counter. Staff in this resort was attentive and friendly. We were welcomed and attended to immediately upon arrival and were checked in to our respective rooms immediately. We were given a spacious and very comfortable studio room.

 photo IMG_20140822_113436_zpsn9djdist.jpg

There was two single beds. :) other married couples might not be happy with such arrangement…but to me it’s perfect. ;) why? Well, my hubby and I never did graduated to queen or king sized bed since we got married. Yups. We are still sleeping intimately together in a single size bed. Never been an issue to me as we are quite small sized and I’m pretty much a hugger while sleeping. Personally speaking,I hate big beds. Our son sleep on his own, of course. And he is doubtlessly happy with that arrangement too. :)

 photo IMG_20140822_113816_zpsylwfiwfv.jpg

The living room was equipped with loveseat and tv. It is very cozy, but we did not use this much. There is so much things to see in Melaka. Slacking in front of the idiot box will definitely defeat the purpose.

 photo IMG_20140822_114741_zpsvwnrn045.jpg

Dining table for two

 photo IMG_20140822_113357_zpsu6ywdzbb.jpg

Pantry is available in case you’d like to make some tea or coffee or store some beverages.

 photo IMG_20140822_113444_zpsvl5fece8.jpg

Wardrobe is spacious enough for travelers to keep their clothing for a week.

 photo IMG_20140822_113526_zpssj9vnogb.jpg

Moving on to the bathroom, vanity mirror is available, of course.

 photo IMG_20140822_113536_zps4jhtc05c.jpg

Basic toiletries are provided, but I highly recommend you to bring your own if you are to stay in Bayou Lagoon Park Resort.

 photo IMG_20140822_113546_zpsyborwhje.jpg

The toilet is squeaky clean.

 photo IMG_20140822_113606_zpsb0sp6bpu.jpg

But what got me high and all excited was the jacuzzi made for lovers. Yups. You are reading that right. We were given a studio room with jacuzzi and I was doubtlessly on cloud nine! Husband and I love taking baths together, and this has pleased us immensely. :p

 photo IMG_20140824_073056_zps0laytott.jpg

If you are expecting some naughty and sexy pictures, I apologize for disappointing you, but that night, when the boy fell asleep put of exhaustion we did spend some intimate time in the jacuzzi. Yeaaaa…yours truly and her sweetheart are underneath all these bubbles, but let’s not go beyond 18SX, shall we? ;)

Personally, I think Bayou Lagoon Park Resort is a perfect choice of accommodation for not only travelers and families but honeymooners and lovers as well. Great for companies who wants to host seminar and team building too.

Although the location of this resort is a tad out of Melaka town and would require transportation to move about to tourist attractions in Melaka, I think this place has it’s own charms. They have quite a lot to offer in terms of seclusion and entertainment. Food is readily available in their in-resort restaurant and a mini mart. But if you are lazy to get out, no worries. Room service is easily available.

 photo PhotoGrid_1409428298009_zpslazefnk9.jpg

This resort is apartment style and has water park and mini amusement park in it. While you are away from the bustling city, you won’t exactly complain boredom while you are here. You may amuse yourselves with the water park or if that is not you thing, you may pay a visit to the gym or arcade for some fun. Massaging parlour and spa is also available, but I would recommend advance booking on that. I will be blogging in detail on what the outdoor water park in Bayou Lagoon Park Resort have to offer soon, but in the meantime, check out their website HERE for more information on current room rates and promotions.

How to Travel Cheap: Make Use of Travel Fair

As I started traveling and holidaying around Malaysia in the spirit of Visit Malaysia 2014, family and friends alike started to question me on how much time and money I spent on all of these travels. I wouldn’t call it ‘spending’. That is a rather harsh and disrespectful term to describe all my travels. I would prefer to term it as a priceless investment instead, as I have more to gain than to lose when I explore my own country. I experience culture, food, interesting places and many more in a way that I never experience before and I can assure you that traveling helps you to not only connect with the world around you in a unique way, but it is an endless journey to self discovery too.

Following a comment from someone I know on how I managed traveling with my family on a shoestring, I’d say advance planning and joining invited trips from various groups and parties helps the pocket a lot. Although I am not attached to any travel agencies and whatnot and open to media and FAM trip invites, I am currently traveling with Sahabat Media and Santai Travel regularly as they are not only fun and educational but family friendly too.

 photo IMG_20140822_153639_zpss7ssp6oo.jpg

Apart from advance planning and grouping up with fellow travelers on the social media, I’d highly recommend all those who would like to travel with a budget take advantage of travel fairs like MATTA Fair if you are to fund your own holidays and travels.

Holiday and travel packages offered during MATTA fair is not only affordable, but almost fuss free as well. Most travel agencies will provide travel tentatives like book your air tickets, accommodations, arrange meals and many more for you and all you need to do is just pay up and enjoy your holiday.

Take this as an example. During my recent trip to Melaka with Santai Travel and fellow media practitioners in Sahabat Media, we were given a chance to drop by MITC, Melaka where MATTA fair was held. Melaka MITS Matta Fair was aimed to encourage Malaysians and visitors to plan their travels without unnecessarily harming your pocket, and I’d have to admit that I was awfully tempted to sign up for some of these travel packages.

Check out the participating agencies present that day:

Wanna go somewhere near for a shirt getaway? Try Selangor. There is pleny of homestays in Selangor that provides interesting holiday packages.

Tourism Terengganu booth

I got stuck at this booth for quite some time as they were having batik painting demo.

 photo IMG_20140822_163506_zpsghrl8on3.jpg

There was also an airline booth that is offering reasonable air fares to selected destinations.

So there you go, folks…some of my traveling tips. If you want to travel but not quite good at planning for it, do check out travel fairs like MATTA the next time you see it’s held. I promise that you would be spoiled for choices…and the best part, you won’t burn excessive hole in your pocket.

My trip to Melaka was made possible by Tourism Malaysia Melaka and Santai Travel.

Looking for A Data Plan for Your Smartphone?

Looking for the lowest commitment fee of Postpaid Plan? That can be quite troublesome if you are quite on a budget. I’ve been making comparison so that I can stretch my ringgit. Check out the offers that major telcos in Malaysia is having.

Maxis One Plan : https://new.maxis.com.my/en/personal/...

DiGi Smartplan : http://new.digi.com.my/Page/plan/default/postpaid_smartplan_overview

Celcom One Plan : https://www.celcom.com.my/personal/promotion/one-plan?pid=1360826467841&gclid=Cj0KEQjwx4yfBRCt2rrAs-P5vtkBEiQAOdFXbbBLHnq3ZBCmuc-f3uniigPIx4V3yzn6tI1OJwUxPFAaAoYt8P8HAQ

Tunetalks : http://www.tunetalk.com/my/PlanRates/...

Basically, all these plans are offering data, which is very important to smartphone users like me, however,

they are still quite costly to me.

I’m currently using a very basic data plan from u-mobile, UMI 18, which offers unlimited internet for just rm18 per month. I have been subscribing it for almost 3 years and so far the service is satisfactory, and the 3G speed it is even enough for tethering with a few devices. The only disadvantage to using u-mobile 3G is that the reception is not particularly strong in rural area. So if you are always in the city, go ahead and subscribe this one. If not, do consider other telcos as stated in the link above.

Why I Don’t Really Care for Contests and Giveaways

I’m a competitive person in nature. It is in my blood. I love competing in a healthy way. As a writer/ novelist, writing for contests or competition is not only a form of therapy to me to express myself, but also a way for me to compete with other great writers out there and actually get acknowledged for writing.

There are a lot of writing competitions out there, and a few days ago, a friend of mine highlighted one that offers quite a handsome reward to it’s winners as a prize: Some cash and a getaway trip to a local holiday destination of the winner’s choice. My friend was all excited about it and was convinced that I could at least bag a consolation prize.

All I need to to do is just do some writeup, submit the writing to them and play with SEO a lil bit and get the piece to first page on Google and I’ll be in the running to win myself a well-deserved getaway.

As a writer…I am honestly tempted to give it a shot…but these days, I feel that I can’t really be bothered joining all these writing contest anymore as it is a complete waste of time. Why? Read the reasons below:

1. Not all contests are genuine.

2. Some contests are just manipulating the contestants to boost up their popularity among the consumers.

3. Some contests doesn’t allow you to use pseudonym, and that is not fine with me as it does not protect my privacy as an individual.

4. Judging is doubtful and not transparent

5. Some contest would require social media interaction. Eg: Get most like on Facebook/Retweet/G+ and automatically win the contest. I think this is not very fair. That would mean popularity vs.quality. The popular ones on social media gets the prize…so why not just host a beauty peagant instead if popularity is what the host is promoting? Talented but not popular contestants usually gets overshadowed and I think that is really a shame!

6. Most SEO writing contest benefits organizers more than the prize reward could compensate for the contestants’ time and effort.

7. Organizers gets their brand on top of Google search page… But contestants…what do they get in return, actually? Winners get coveted prizes as a reward, but how about those who won nothing? To me this is cheap advertising where writers/bloggers/ contestants are actually sponsoring advertisement as at the end of the day, organizers popularity and brand recognition increased with all those social media interaction.

8. Last but not least, what I hate most about contests or online writing competition is that sometimes, no winners were announced as promised at all although in the initial stage, organizers stated that winners will be announced publicly on a certain stipulated date.

There. I’ve said why I don’t always bother to join much writing contest anymore. I hope you guys understand my frustration. Sometimes it is not about the prize money, but well deserved aknowledgment and appreciation. If I can’t even get recognized and appreciated for writing, then I might as well not waste my time and effort on it.

Flower Pot Ice Cream Cake

I have mood swings more often than I care to admit. But my tempers are short…and can easily be remedied by feeding me junk food or sweet stuff like ice-cream. When it comes to bad mood, my husband knows me best. He knows it too well that there is at least once or twice a month where he need to feed me ice-cream to keep me sweet, and yesterday he did just that, when I was feeling quite sore and emotionally down.

 photo IMG_20140817_201549_zps0qppyq2b.jpg

We spotted flower pot ice cream cake while we were in a shopping mall yesterday, and decided to try it out.

 photo IMG_20140817_201710_zps1z3pftsd.jpg

Ice-cream was placed in a small flower pot and topped with Oreo cookie crumbs before a plastic flower is planted on the soil-like ice-cream.

 photo IMG_20140817_201740_zpssnblfdyg.jpg

Each potted ice-cream costs rm5…quite costly for a measly bit of ice- cream, but I guess it is worth every penny as it kept me sweet and all smiling for the rest of the day. :)

Sesame Street Live-Elmo Makes Music Media Launch

Do you know these guys?

 photo IMG_20140816_140256_zpswiscvhr9.jpg

I’m sure you do…especially if you are born in the 80s. :) I practically grew up with Sesame Street characters. This educational children program actually taught me the basic of language and maths when I was a little girl.

 photo IMG_20140816_140232_zpsv6exnws5.jpg

And last weekend… I was given an opportunity to meet my favourite characters in person .Creatively entertaining!
