Seeing her mother in an Alzheimer’s unit is the hardest part – until an old friend asks her to investigate suspicious deaths at that nursing home. Is a self-appointed “Angel of Mercy” killing patients to end their suffering? Are family members hastening their inheritance? Is an employee extorting money and removing the witnesses? Kate uses her journalism skills to track clues, but the puzzle pieces simply won’t fit.
If Kate can’t uncover the truth, her mother could be next on the killer’s list.

#NewRelease alert for a #CozyMystery! Someone Missing from Malapais Mountain: The Accidental Detective humorous #mystery book 4 #BookBuzz

It’s hard to chase the truth when you need a cane…
Former international war correspondent Kate Tessler had to trade her illustrious journalism career for her childhood bedroom after a brush with death almost took her leg. But when the editor of a local newspaper asks for her help, Kate is drawn back into her old world. A journalist covering a sprawling story of political corruption may have uncovered explosive new evidence, but she was run off the road in a hit-and-run accident. Gabriella, Kate’s mentee, has been injured and can only communicate by blinking yes or no to questions. Meanwhile, another reporter is missing.
The editor is short-staffed, with no one experienced enough to handle something this dangerous. Kate can never give up on the search for truth, so with her trusty senior sidekicks and new PI partner—her sister, Jen—Kate takes the case. Can a fifty-year-old journalist still recovering from a war injury survive the dangers of the Arizona desert long enough to catch a killer?
In the Accidental Detective mystery series, a witty journalist solves mysteries in Arizona and tackles the challenges of turning fifty. Get The Accidental Detective series in print or ebook from all retailers.
“I loved this story so much. It had a bit more edge and danger to it, but also the charm and humor.” I am always so astonished how you weave in all the generations of the growing detective agency—you give everyone something to do, a way to be involved and validated and yet we don’t lose focus on our protagonist.” – Sinclair Jayne, author
Peek at Someone Missing from Malapais Mountain: The Accidental Detective Book 4:

I stroked Harlequin, my parents’ black and white cat, who liked to snuggle me whenever I had the heating pad on my leg. “Sorry, can’t disturb the cat.”
Jen heaved a theatrical sigh and headed for the door. We weren’t expecting anyone, so it was probably a delivery—or else Clarence, with a report on some odd crime he thought we should investigate to keep him entertained. Since I’d been home, I’d helped get three murderers arrested. Bored retired men remained the biggest danger in my life, followed by my restless sister.
I heard a woman’s voice from outside. “Kate Tessler?”
Jen stepped back and gestured toward me.
A petite woman, probably my age give or take a few years, stepped into the foyer. Her gaze landed on me and she marched forward. “April Tran, editor-in-chief of the Sun.” Her chin length black hair swung forward as she leaned over to hold out her hand.
I shook the offered hand. “Pleased to meet you. What can I do for you?” I tried to keep my demeanor professional. It would be the only professional thing about me. I wore baggy shorts and an ancient Def Leppard T-shirt with a coffee stain down the front, and my short, silver hair stuck up all over. I hadn’t bothered to shower that morning, since I wasn’t expecting to see anyone important.
April Tran couldn’t have weighed more than a hundred pounds, but she dropped down on the other end of the sofa hard enough to bounce the cushions and make Harlequin grumble.
“I need your help.” She frowned at the cat and the heating pad. “I hope you can help me.”
“If you explain what you need, I’ll let you know,” I said.
Jen quietly took her seat across the coffee table and picked up the notebook and pen she kept within reach.
“Gabriella told me about you,” April said.
Gabriella Dempsey was a reporter with the Sun. I’d done her a favor a few weeks before by giving her info about cyberbullying at a local high school. Well, technically I’d distracted her from the bigger scandal involving Todd’s political opponent and a shady developer who’d committed murder. But the cyberbullying story tied into that, and since the bigger story broke, Gabriella had been covering it as well.
“I’ve been following her reports,” I said. “She’s doing well.”
“She’ll have my job one day,” April said without heat. “At least, if she lives long enough.”
I stared. “Is that a general comment, or are you worried about her safety?”
“She was in a car accident last night,” April said. “Gabriella is in the hospital.”
“Oh no. Is she—” I wouldn’t ask if Gabriella was all right, given what April had already said. “What are her injuries?”
“Broken arm, cracked ribs, burns. She’s conscious, but between the breathing tube and the burns on her hands, she can’t really communicate.” April gulped a couple of times. “She can’t talk or write.”
I felt lightheaded. My damaged leg was bad enough. Losing the ability to speak and write was devastating, especially for a reporter.
I made myself breathe. “Do they think she’ll get better?”
April gave a shrug and half shake of her head that suggested uncertainty.
“Is that what you meant by if she lives long enough?” I asked.
“Not exactly.” April’s hands made fists on her thighs. “The accident wasn’t an accident. Someone ran her car off the road.”

“I always enjoy reading about Kate and her team of family and friends who work together to solve crimes. They might not always play by the rules, but they can solve the crimes just as good as the police. Even though this book, and the series, is a bit on the serious side with the nature of the crimes, you can still find lots of fun banter and witty dialogue in the stories.” - Janine on BookBub

Huevos Rancheros: A #recipe to #cook for your favorite cowboy when #cooking breakfast or any time!

Ranchers need hearty breakfasts to tackle all the ranch chores. This will fill up a hungry cowboy, but the rest of us can enjoy it too.
Huevos Rancheros

One bag frozen, shredded hash browns (about 1/2 cup per person)8-12 corn tortillas (2 per person)One can refried beansShredded or sliced cheddar (about 1/4 cup per person)4-6 eggs (2 per person)One bottle or can of enchilada sauce (available in the Mexican section of most groceries)
Sauté the hash browns in a little oil until nicely cooked. Set aside.Lightly brush a skillet with oil. Fry the tortillas until warm and turning golden, 30-60 seconds per side.Place the tortillas in stacks of two on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Spread refried beans over the top tortilla in each pair.Divide the hash browns among the servings, spreading them on top of the beans.Sprinkle shredded cheese or lay a slice of cheese on each serving.Put the baking sheet in a toaster oven or oven at about 300°, so the beans heat and the cheese melts.Meanwhile, fry the eggs to the hardness of your choosing. Warm the enchilada sauce on the stove or in the microwave.Move the tortillas to individual plates. Add two eggs to the top of each. Pour enchilada sauce over it all. Serve immediately.

Creative Commons LicenseOptions:For a lower-calorie version, use only one tortilla and one egg, and eliminate the hash browns.Try whole pinto beans or black beans instead of refried beans. Experiment with different cheeses, such as Monterey Jack or queso fresco.Use green chile sauce, salsa, or hot sauce instead of, or in addition to, enchilada sauce.Use fresh or canned tomatoes, chopped avocado, jalapenos, diced yellow onion, lettuce, or cilantro to garnish.

EXCERPT FROM CRAZY TO WED
The night in that dark bar when Rachel warned me her friend was going to call, I tried to pick her brain about Brad. But the man-eater was scanning the perimeter of the room. If someone caught her eye, she would be out the door with them in twenty minutes. I needed to work fast if I wanted info before this date. Luckily, that evening the pickings were too young and unappealing, so she returned her focus to our discussion.
"You aren't one of those women desperate for a man," she explained. "You never have been. It's just one of the many reasons I love about you. Look at your life—you have great friends," she gestured to herself, "a close family, challenging work at which you excel. You travel to cool, exotic locations and even volunteer. You are a complete person, interesting and fun without some guy on your arm." I rolled my eyes. "It's a compliment," Rachel insisted. "Brad is the same. Lots of sports, tight with his buddies and his siblings, involved in local politics, not looking for a wife."
The pep talk was great but left me suspicious. "Why is such a paragon interested in meeting me? Is he a dog?"
"No, my dear friend, he's a looker."
Gotta love Rachel. Here I was six weeks later, goo-goo eyed. She'd been right about everything, except being worth the wait. She should have introduced us ages ago.
Crazy to Wed is available in eBook and Kindle Unlimited exclusively on Amazon or free for joining Madison's author mailing list.

Who wouldn't want to be a billionaire? Turns out winning the lottery causes as many problems as it solves.

I highly recommend this book. I look forward to the next book. Kris has a winning series here.”
“I can hardly wait for the next in this series.”
Charming the Billionaire Cowboy
For the first time, his cowboy charm seems to backfire…
With his Texas ranching family’s lottery win, TC Tomlinson is finally able to build a ranch with alternative livestock. TC has a lot to prove, starting with his new ostrich herd, so when he catches a beauty scooping up an escaped baby bird, TC chases her down, assuming she wants to meet him for his money.
When Hallie Armstrong sees the injured baby ostrich, she jumps into professional mode. A former vet tech, she’s moved to Last Stand to work at her aunt's wildlife rescue and heal from an attack. She’s skittish of the handsome cowboy, but when he starts to flirt, she decides two can play at this game—the rescue needs fundraising, and TC is an eligible bachelor.
As they brainstorm ideas for a bachelor auction and work to solve the mystery of local sheep attacks, TC finds himself falling for the feisty cowgirl. But when he learns she’s still in danger, his protective instincts threaten to drive the independent Hallie away. Can TC convince Hallie she can have her independence and him too?

“I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see where these characters go next.”
Find the Accidental Billionaire Cowboys series in print or ebook at Amazon US, Amazon UK, B&N/Nook or Kobo.
Excerpt:
Hallie drove down the country road between green fields. Nothing looked familiar. Was that because she was lost or because her memory was faulty? She pulled to the side of the road, got out of the car, and looked around. A sudden rustling came from the ditch beside the road. Then an odd trilling noise filled the air. A bird or frog? But the rustling sounded like a large animal.
Hallie headed for the ditch, prepared to race back and dive inside the car if she needed to escape danger.
She stared down at a fluffy ball that rustled the grasses as it moved. It looked like a giant feather duster had come to life. A tiny head bobbed on a long neck. A beak opened and chirped. What was that thing? Some kind of bird, judging by the beak. A large bird, with a body the size of a basketball.
She looked around. No one in sight. So this wasn’t a bizarre prank. She was pretty sure she wasn’t dreaming, since she had the presence of mind to wonder if she was dreaming. Her memory might be shaky, but it had yet to give her hallucinations.

She crouched for a closer look. The animal chirped and tried to get up, but it quickly pitched forward, flapping short wings. It must be caught or injured somehow. She could do something about that. Many animals calmed down if you covered their eyes. That made it easier to handle them. She didn’t have a towel in the car, and on this warm spring day, she hadn’t brought a jacket. Oh well. Hallie peeled off her long-sleeved T-shirt, leaving her in a sturdy sports bra in cheerful purple and turquoise.
Hallie duckwalked into the ditch and tossed her shirt over the creature. She knelt beside the bird and wrapped her shirt around its head, loosely tucking the long sleeves around the neck a few times to hold the shirt in place.
The animal gave a few last pathetic peeps and settled down. She put her arm around its body. The gray-brown feathers were downy, silky against her bare skin, so it must be young. She gently straightened at the waist, still on her knees, revealing the bird’s long legs with knobby knees and two large toes on each foot. It might be young, but it would stand about three feet high. An ostrich? She recalled hearing about an ostrich farm around here.
Well, they apparently weren’t very attentive ostrich farmers, because this little critter had escaped and was far from the herd or flock or whatever ostriches had. It also had a gash on its leg, shallow but long, still oozing blood.
“Okay, let’s get you help.” She rose to her feet with a grunt. The bird must weigh fifty pounds.
She got the squirming bird in the car, dodging its bobbing head. As she shifted toward the driver’s side door, she glanced down the road. An oversized red pickup truck was coming up fast. Hallie hadn’t noticed the truck approaching, and now it was within fifty feet. She slid into the car, yanked the door shut, and turned the ignition.
That truck was almost on top of her. She’d wait for it to pass.
She glared as the shiny red truck pulled past. It was enormous, so apparently somebody felt the need to compensate for something.
The truck swung across the road and stopped in front of her. A door slammed. A tall, lanky cowboy strode around the front of the truck, scowling.
Hallie gave a squeak worthy of the baby ostrich and hit the automatic door lock.
The man stormed up to her door. He had to lean way over to peer in at her. “What do you think you’re doing?” he demanded.
Hallie gaped at him. How was she supposed to answer that? She thought she was minding her own business.
He rapped on the window. No way was she going to roll it down.
Hallie put the car in reverse. He was blocking the road ahead, so she’d go back the way she came.
He tried her door handle. Thank goodness she’d locked it.
He knocked on the window again, his fierce face a foot away. “Open up!”
Hallie shook her head vigorously. She eased off the brakes so the car started rolling backward.
He skipped back from the car. Hallie let out a shaky breath and touched the gas. She couldn’t go too fast in reverse, though, or she might back into the ditch. Then she’d really be in trouble.

The angry cowboy ran after her, shouting something.
It took a moment for his words to penetrate.
“Give me back my ostrich!”
Whoops.
