Highly recommended Formatter
The following post is from Debora Lewis. She has formatted my books for several years and I highly recommend her work:
Self-Publishing? There’s A New Kid in Town
So… where do you keep yours? You know. That novel that rattled around in your head for years. The one you spent day and night, night and day writing, editing, and polishing. I’ll bet your characters became your best friends. You know them inside out, but like any friend, sometimes they’d surprise you and take you places you’d never been. Places you had never expected them to go. And you followed. You chronicled. You might have even worried a bit. But dark or light, they saw you through.
Now it’s your turn to see them through. Take them someplace new. Let your characters breathe. Let them live. Let them laugh and smile and cry with the rest of the world. Let the rest of the world enjoy their company. Publish!
From Microsoft Word .doc to ebook it takes about two weeks to have your novel ready for distribution through Amazon and Smashwords.
What’s that? You want to hold a real book? The kind where you can flip through the pages and catch a whiff of ink? You can do that too. Through Createspace, an Amazon print on demand (POD) company.
I know what you’re thinking. Some writers have told you they’ve published overnight. Yes, they have. But they formatted their own cover and had it ready for their ebook and print book including the blurb for the back cover. They had a dedication and acknowledgements in their manuscript. They had their bio written and maybe a chapter or blurb about their next book to place at the end to entice the reader to keep an eye on their new favorite writer.
Okay. So getting all the pieces of your novel into one readable file has already taxed your skills in this age of electronics and what you’d really like to be doing is writing the next one, not formatting this one. You don’t want to learn how to do a linked Table of Contents for an ebook, or how to get the proper margins and headers for a print book much less the proper pagination, front matter and consistent layout. So here is the solution. There are people out there who can do the cover design, file formatting and uploading for you for a reasonable fee. I know. I’m one of them.
And I’m not really a new kid. Not only have I formatted ebooks for the past several years, I also formatted many print books for StoneThread Publishing authors when StoneThread was a going concern. Some of those, like Ron Wick, are SSA members.
Keep writing, and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Thanks!
