Just a Few Thoughts
Here’s just a few thoughts as we head into the weekend…
The various shelter-in-place or stay-at-home edicts are causing a lot of issues. I recently resurrected my mpgallagher.com blog and had a post last night some of you might like. If you have two minutes on your hands, head on over to mpgallagher.com (you can click here) to give it a read.
Over the last two weeks, I’ve tried to show more free – or free via Kindle Unlimited – book offerings as most of us are at home. I’ve also received a lot of emails from you enjoying the offerings and asking for more. Looking at the schedule for the next two weeks, there’s quite a few in a variety of genres so make sure you take a look at each day’s email. Try Open Library for Free Kindle Books
As many of you know, there are many eBook publishers and retailers out there besides Amazon – if you only rely on the Amazon Kindle store to “feed” your Kindle, you may miss out on a lot of independent authors out there who write some really nice stories!
Open Library is huge, with over 30 million records (24+ million are available through the website now), and more are on the way. There is a database infrastructure and wiki interface, you can search millions of book records, narrow results by facet, and search across the full text of one million scanned books.
While there are a lot of books on the Open Library site, I find it harder to navigate compared to others as it doesn’t have the “in your face” Kindle-format eBooks. Some are in other eReader formats, others you can’t get for free but can purchase, etc. While there is literally tons of content, you might have to dig a bit. Then again, it might be pretty easy as I am an impatient and sometimes lazy individual and may not have taken the appropriate amount of time exploring the website.
If you would like to check out the Open Library website, you can if you click here or type in www.openlibrary.org into your web browser.
You can read them on your computer, or transfer them to your Kindle. If you download a Kindle book from the site, you will need to transfer it to your computer to your Kindle. That’s a fairly easy process. This is the same guide I charge 99 cents for in the Amazon Kindle store, but you get it for free.
