Convoy Murder - Book Review

Convoy Murder Convoy Murder by Paul G Zimmer II
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jake had no idea what he was getting himself into when he made the decision to sit behind the wheel of a big truck. I really enjoyed the references to Davenport, Iowa, which is where I'm from, making the setting was very realistic. The conversation had just the right amount of humor and the plot development was simply - very well done! A most enjoyable read and I look for more from this fine author. Since my husband and I used to be in the trucking industry, I also enjoyed that it was based around that, too, and I had to chuckle a few times as it brought forth some memorable times of our own.
I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a gripping, can't put down read with exciting twists and turns and a surprising ending I never saw coming.

Lesedi

BOOK TWO IN THIS SERIES
LESEDI - in his country his name means 'the light' though he has never chosen to walk in it. A man who has been driven by duty to himself now finds he must carry out one final duty for a country which isn't even his. He has finally learned the meaning of a phrase he had uttered much of his life "sucks to be you."
This book is both stand alone and the middle work of the “Earth That Was” trilogy. “Infinite Exposure” and “John Smith - Last Known Survivor of the Microsoft Wars” are the beginning and end. It was written in response to fans wanting a bit more of “the story in between.”
The first wave of nuclear attacks from both terrorists and governments has happened though the general public has yet to figure it out, most are too busy trying to survive to bother figuring it out. The predicted extinction of all life did not happen possibly because many of the first attack detonations occurred at our own nuclear power plants.
Follow his journey and those of the survivors he meets along the way to see if the Universe allows them a brief bit of happiness or chooses to squash them like a bug.

Convoy Murder

Jake was about to have it all. That is until a dead body is discovered. This bright young man was truly destined for greatness, even before he finished his masters degree in Financial Management. However, like so many other Americans, his dreams and career burst when the recession bubble burst, forcing him to put his life on hold and take up driving big rigs. Somewhere between his college achievements and looking for his first job in Financial Management, he developed a deep, dark secret that no one, including his lovely young wife and adoring parents could have imagined. And it was partly due to the hidden lies and secret life that he ended up being charged with murder and imprisoned.

The reader will follow Jake on a journey that includes a pit of sexual liaisons, and a series of twists and turns in the plot; underscored by the greed of even those who Jake trusted the most. Well of Rage

Murder in Mobile
Carly Redmund, a Mobile, Alabama, police recruit is about to mess up her first major crime scene. Her training officer, J.C. Grey, orders her to give up the evidence found in the bottom of a well, a high school class ring. She does. Grey tucks the ring in his pocket. What happened to the bag-it-and-tag-it evidence procedure?
Carly is left guarding the crime scene tape as a news van pulls in and the crew sets up. She overhears the female reporter tell the cameraman that the bones in the well might be Terence, a missing African American kid from the '70s, and that heads need to roll at PD, the racist SOBs. Why hasn’t Carly read about this case?
As she remembers the initials TWW inscribed on the inside of the ring, Grey walks back and tells the rookie to keep her mouth shut, and he’ll handle everything, including the report. That doesn’t make any sense. Rookies handle the grunt work. Grey is hiding more than the ring. If he doesn’t put the ring in the property room, Carly will be blamed. She could lose her job. Worse, she could be charged with withholding evidence.
Carly is in big trouble. What Carly doesn’t know is that a white supremacist group is involved -- and also mayoral candidate Derrick Grey, Officer Grey’s brother. While dealing with her own personal demons, Carly must learn to survive in a hostile environment, develop friends fast in a new city, and solve a cold-case murder to bring justice to a grieving mother.

Dark Knights

Police Officers are the modern day embodiment of medieval knights, going to work each day with a noble cause to protect and serve society. The profession requires cops to see people at their worst. They see death, tragedy, crime, and despair on a daily basis. The very nature of the tasks cops perform and the things cops see skews their sense of humor. Sometimes, a sense of humor is the only defense mechanism in a police officer's tool box. Stripped of the ability to laugh, or forced to be politically correct in a politically incorrect work environment can be hazardous to one’s health. Coping becomes an essential component of a police officer’s arsenal. One of the primary coping mechanisms utilized by cops is humor. A cop can find something funny about almost anything, regardless of how tragic the circumstances. Dark humor involves making light of a serious, disturbing or taboo subject matter. It is sometimes viewed as morbid, cruel, offensive, and graphic in nature and is yet, still found funny. This is the story of the author's twenty-year police career with the New York City Transit Police and NYPD as he worked with some of New York City's darkest knights - those cops who did and said the funniest things under the most difficult circumstances.

Felons, Flames and Ambulance Rides

ANTHOLOGY

In 1995, New York State Police Captain Roger Fulton had an idea. He knew from personal experience that police officers really liked telling stories. He also knew that a lot of civilians really liked writing about what police officers did. So, why not get them together? The result was the Police Writers Club that included both officers and writers and offered an annual conference and writing competition.

Five years later, a group of the club’s members published CopTales 2000, an anthology that included the works of contest winners and submissions by other members. Soon, the club began to attract not just police officers but aspiring writers from a wide variety of public safety affiliations, as well as civilians who wrote in a wide variety of genres.
In 2007, to better reflect the composition of its membership, the club changed its name to the Public Safety Writers Association (PSWA), and is now a national organization providing its membership with an annual writing conference, a writing competition and multiple opportunities to collaborate, creating the stories all love to tell. Felons, Flames & Ambulance Rides: Stories by and about America’s Public Safety Heroes is an anthology containing the works of members of PSWA.

Simon Sees - Book Review

Simon Sees Simon Sees by Othello BachMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
Excellent read. I love mysteries, suspense & thrillers. Ms. Bach didn't disappoint me! The storyline is precise. The characters are perfect. And I was surprised toward the end to where the story led me because I was totally stumped!
Simon is a foster child. He rarely talks. And that is unusual for a 6-year old. Yet Elise is not only able to get Simon to open up, but finds he's very unique. And determined!
I don't want to spoil the storyline by telling you what happens, but if like suspense and thrillers, you will love this book!
