Progress report

Whoo-hoo! Dislocated World is back from the copy editor!

I’ve begun inputting those changes, but then I was going to print out the Tribulations layout to mail to him, buuuut…the computer is being weird, and the printer won’t print the layout properly. So I’m having to fiddle with stuff to get him a proper PDF. Ugh. This kind of stuff always throws a wrench in the works.

Not a lot of progress today: I’m still kind of stressed & distracted, which is bad because actual writing requires the most focus. But I did realize that there was a minor continuity issue that would be easier to fix in Tribulations than in Trials, so I did that.

And I could do that because I still haven’t given Tribulations to the copy editor. In this unfortunate age, it feels really weird to do basic stuff like ask someone when they’re going to be done with A Dislocated World. But I figured since the holidays & election & coup attempt were over, I would go ahead and ask. Not shockingly, the copy editor has been occupied & distracted, and he actually forgot about it (!), but he is expecting to get it back to me fairly soon.

I wasn’t planning to lay out A Dislocated World, but then I realized after a few conversations that much of the older generation in my family can’t use e-books. So it would honestly be kind of cruel to not have a paper book available, plus I’ve had enough time to recover from my last layout. I think what I’ll do is put it out as an e-book (just on Amazon to start with), and then do a layout. I won’t have the copy editor go over the layout, so it might be a bit rough, but hopefully it will be OK since the text has been copy edited.

Yes, I’ve been distracted.

But I was able to get focused today. Because it’s been so long & I haven’t edited, I figured I would start by going over what I’ve written, and I edited two chapters (there are nine so far). It’s all a bit rough, but honestly not bad for this stage!

Yeah, it’s been busy. But today I managed to write 670 words!

It’s been hard to get focused, because there’s a lot of other stuff on my plate at the moment, but today I wrote 1,100 words! Whoo!

Things have gotten a little busy again, so I wasn’t able to do a lot of writing again. But there was part of this one relationship dynamic that wasn’t thrilling me, and I actually had some good ideas about it, so I did some editing on that today.

Thanksgiving obviously created some distractions, but today I read through what’s been written—I feel like it’s mostly OK, although the first chapter may be too focused on backstory. It’s hard because this is Book 4, and there’s a lot going on by this point….
