Dislocated World is back to paid on Amazon—I’ve started to advertise it as a Sponsored Product there. I don’t have any great hopes for that sort of campaign, but I think given that the book is niche-y history, it’s probably the best approach. Facebook has managed to piss off so many people that it’s stopped letting you target your ads, which of course was what made Facebook ads actually work! So I won’t be advertising there—that company cannot stop shooting itself in the foot….
I’m starting to lay Dislocated World out as a paper book—because it’s in four parts instead of a much greater number of chapters, Part 1 is more than 75 pages long! It’s going to be a bear, for sure. Not to jinx anything, but at least I don’t seem to have completely lost the hang of Scribus.

Dislocated World is available on Amazon—but don’t get it yet, I’m going to make it free for five days, hopefully starting tomorrow.

Progress report
OK! I uploaded a Dislocated World onto Amazon as an e-book—it will be exclusive there for a bit, just because I can’t deal with the rest of it right now. I’ve also activated the bonus content on this Website—there’s no actual link to the book yet, but I’ll add them once the book is actually up.

I did Part 2 today, which puts me about two-thirds of the way through the book. Getting there!

Progress report
I took yesterday off, and then today I went through the book on Kindle Create. There’s still enough formatting weirdness that I have to go over it carefully. I did the introduction & part 1, which is about the first third of the book.
Also I have my name on Google alerts, and someone’s put up Trust—I got to send my very first DCMA takedown notice. It’s a bit weird because you have to identifying information—of course, I’ve looked up theirs, but I feel like the whole point of this is that I am a law-abiding sort and they are not, so I feel a bit disadvantaged.

I finished inputting the corrections, and then got ready to put the book onto Kindle.
To do that, I needed to convert the file into a .doc file. And guess what? Yes, the formatting got completely fucked up—everything was bold, italic, underlined AND double-struckthrough (which was not even something I knew was possible to do!).
Much untangling later, it’s in Kindle Create, and I think it’s probably OK, but obviously I’m going to go over it much more carefully before I upload it.
Tomorrow…..

Rum Soakers & WTF
I’m about halfway through part 4—not much left to do, but I won’t be able to finish today.
One of the things that stumped me and now the copy editor are references in the letters to things called “Barbinettes.” No idea what those are, but I’m guessing some kind of dried fruit, since they often are mentioned along with “rum soakers.” I wasn’t sure how to spell “Barbinette” either, but having gone over the scans very carefully, I think that’s the spelling—he capitalizes the “B” consistently, which is about the only consistent usage of capitalization you’re likely to see in those letters.

Finished the edits through part 2—which is actually most of the way through the book. It’s good!

Finally got Tribulations to the copy editor…I think? We’re having quite a time with technology these days.
In the meantime, I’ve inputted a bunch of changes to Dislocated World—hopefully in a couple of days I can start getting it ready for Amazon!
