Dear Bitches, Smart Authors Podcast, Episode DABWAHA 2012

It's DABWAHA Time!

We're talking about what categories will be in this year's DABWAHA Tournament of romance novels, and what books we think should appear in some of the categories. Also, we were both typing too close to the microphone, and I apologize for the tappity tap tap.

What Sunita was reading in February

January was kind of a bust for me, but I caught up in February. I've been trying to read further afield, going past the usual m/m and category and trying more historical romance. They didn't all work perfectly, but I've no regrets in this batch.

Twice Fallen: Ladies in Waiting by Emma Wildes. I discovered Wildes when she was writing for smaller presses and really liked the relationships and the type of sensual/sex scenes she writes. I tried one of her major-publisher releases a while back but ...

REVIEW: Crucible of Gold by Naomi Novik

Dear Ms. Novik,

Though I fretted for almost two years waiting for this book, I can see from your author's notes that you've had a lot to keep you busy having had your own little egg, as the dragons would say, in the interim. Still, what a book you've written for us. Excitement, danger, new breeds of dragons, a harrowing journey to and across a new continent for Temerarie and Laurence, Granby and Iskierka, Kulingile and Demane plus 200 sailors and one airsick ambassador – the action zipped...

Must have Android Apps (non-reading)

With over 400,000 apps in the Android Market it can be tough finding the right apps for your device. For reading books I find myself primarily using Kindle for Android and Mantano, but what about apps for other things? Below are a few non-reading apps that I've found I use all the time on either my phone, tablet or both.

REVIEW: Fever by Joan Swan

Dear Ms. Swan:

I had not planned to read this book. I kind of recoil from the blend of paranormal mysticism and romantic suspense. For some reason these blends don't appeal to me even though I have read and enjoyed them in the past (Dream Man and Now You See Her by Linda Howard, for example, are favorites of mine). However, Wicked Pixie alerted me to Mandi's review on Goodreads and that she had DNF'ed the book because of the racial slurs that peppered the story. Mandi took some grief for this ...

It was time for the ritual. Ashlan glanced around with a mixture of fear and anticipation. Her inner wolf stirred and her skin rippled while she continued her short walk toward the ceremonial field. The she-wolf in her began to rise; an ache like a taunt muscle...

If I had to pick my top (current) thirty favorite historical romances….

Dabney is a new reviewer and we thought this would give you a good idea of what her tastes are so that you can determine how closely your tastes may align with hers. You may recognize the name "Ballin' Bodice Rippers" as Dabney posted about her Kindle collection on the AAR forums at one time.

In the past five years, I've read over 1500 romances. Some I loathed, some I loved and many I thought were-eh–better than the last three Star Wars movies. I'm fairly narrow in my general genre reading. ...

Important: New Commenting Policy on Dear Author

I'm implementing a new commenting policy at Dear Author.  While we have always welcomed (and sometimes tolerated) anonymous commenters, there is an increasing tendency of a few people (mostly newbies) to engage in bad commenting behavior.  Thus, in the future, if a commenter engages in sock puppeting as defined below, I will note that in a follow up comment.

Sock puppeting for the purposes of this policy is creating a secondary identity to agree with your first posted comment. For instance...

REVIEW: The Auction by Kitty Thomas

Dear Ms. Thomas,

Your work was recommended to me as an 'out of the box' self-published erotica writer that has a lot of fans, but whose works are not for everyone. I flipped through your works and settled upon The Auction because the blurb mentioned that she was bought by a monster. I was hoping for a Beauty and the Beast type of story. This is not even close. Instead, it's a D/s story about a woman that is purchased by a dragon-like man and made to service him and his brother.

The Auction	Kitty ThomasBelle is a...
