Over the weekend some of our posts ended up listed as drafts. In attempting to fix the problem, we accidentally republished old posts and some drafts of posts that were not meant to see the light of day. Our Twitter account and mailing list are automated, so while most of the these posts did not end up on the site, many went out to our subscribers and Twitter followers.

Review: Out of Ashes ( Ashes and Dust #3) by Jenn Burke

Some bonds weren’t meant to be broken.

Vampire PI Evan Fournier has dealt with his fair share of danger and heartache, but nothing prepares him for the pain of a broken bond with his mate—especially when his mate is the one who severed it. Bond or no, he still loves Colin—fiercely. Trust, however, is harder to come by. And when a demon starts terrorizing paranormals in Toronto, trust in one another is exactly what they’ll need.

Former firefighter turned crime-fighting phoenix Colin Zhang knows ...

REVIEW: Never Been Kissed by Timothy Janovsky

Illustrated cover featuring a drive-in screen (containing the book's title in red font) and a fair-haired white guy leaning against a blue car and a dark-haired white guy leaning against the red car parked next to it. Dear (never-been-quite-over-you) Crush,
It’s been a few years since we were together, but I can’t stop thinking about the time we almost…

Wren Roland has never been kissed, but he wants that movie-perfect ending more than anything. Feeling nostalgic on the eve of his birthday, he sends emails to all the boys he (ahem) loved before he came out. Morning brings the inevitable Oh God What Did I Do?, but he brushes that panic aside. Why stress about it? None of his could-have-beens are actually going t...

REVIEW: A Show for Two by Tashie Bhuiyan

Dear Tashie Bhuiyan,

Last year I enjoyed your debut, Counting Down with You, a YA contemporary about a Bangladeshi-American high school student’s struggle with anxiety, demanding and controlling parents, and falling in love with a white boy. I liked it enough to request an ARC of your second book, A Show for Two.

A Show for Two is also an #ownvoices (Bangladeshi-American) YA that focuses on a teenager’s difficulties with abusive parents and her need for a healthier and better environment, a me...

REVIEW: Her Big City Neighbor by Jackie Lau

A grumpy/sunshine rom-com!

When small-town engineer Amy Sharpe inherits a house in Toronto, she decides it’s the perfect opportunity to start over and go back to school. Away from the family that takes her for granted, away from the ex who expected so much and gave little in return.

The new Amy enjoys wandering around the city and frequenting bubble tea shops, German beer halls, dim sum restaurants, and coffee bars serving Japanese pastries. She has a roommate with the same name as her favorit...

REVIEW: Against a Wall by Cate C. Wells

Dear Cate C. Wells,

This contemporary romance came up after I did not finish the first book in this series, Hitting the Wall. Commenters on the review described this one as better and I was in the midst of a three-month free trial of KU, so I decided to give it a shot.

Glenna was bullied by Cash in middle school and high school. Even in adulthood, Cash makes fun of her. The book starts with Cash showing up at the cafe where Glenna works and mocking her, then loosening the lids on all the sugar...

REVIEW: Adult Assembly Required by Abbi Waxman

When Laura Costello moves to Los Angeles, trying to escape an overprotective family and the haunting memories of a terrible accident, she doesn’t expect to be homeless after a week. (She’s pretty sure she didn’t start that fire — right?) She also doesn’t expect to find herself adopted by a rogue bookseller, installed in a lovely but completely illegal boardinghouse, or challenged to save a losing trivia team from ignominy…but that’s what happens. Add a regretful landlady, a gorgeous housemate ...

Jennie’s Reading List for January through March 2022

I’ve been doing quarterly “what I’ve been reading” posts pretty faithfully for a while now. Usually I have close to ten books on the list, but for various reasons I haven’t been reading much, and so I only have three to review (I also reviewed two books with Janine – How High We Go in the Dark and Sea of Tranquility).

Illustrated cover of a brunette white girl oin the beach in jeans and a yellow halter top, sitting watching a dark-haired white man with a tattoo on his arm swimmingGood Girl Complex by Elle Kennedy

Kaetrin reviewed this back at the beginning of February and gave it a B-. I liked it a bit better; I mentioned in the comments on her review tha...

Review: The Spooky Life (The Spectral Files #4) by S.E. Harmon

Rain Christiansen isn’t sure he’ll ever fully understand the supernatural. But he’s finally finding his groove as a reluctant medium and cold-case detective. That’s not to say everything is going smoothly—there’s a wedding in the works, after all. He’s finally taking that enormous step with fellow detective, Daniel McKenna, and he couldn’t be happier…about the marriage. Not so much the wedding. The hoopla is enough to make him wish for a quick flight to Vegas and an Elvis officiant.

At least wo...
