REVIEW: Capture the Sun by Jessie Mihalik

Silhouette of a couple backlit by an orange/yellow sun but at night, all the light shed is dark red apart from the sun itself with a cityscape in the background. Readers please note:  Series spoilers follow. Also, I’m going to assume those who read this review will be familiar with the series and the characters.

Dear Jessie Mihalik,

I’ve been enjoying your Starlight’s Shadow trilogy ever since Hunt the Stars first came out. In that book, readers got a taste of the attraction between Lexi and Nilo. They clearly had some history but there was no detail. I have been curious!

As it happens, one of the few things that didn’t work super great for me in Captur...

REVIEW: Trust Me by Rachel Grant

Night scene in blues showing the dark skyline of a middle eastern city/town.Dear Rachel Grant,

Trust Me is book two in your Evidence: Under Fire series, which merges the Evidence and Flashpoint series’. I haven’t yet read all of the Evidence books but I loved the Flashpoint novels. It was nice to catch up with some of those familiar characters again.

SEAL Lt Chris Flyte has transferred from the teams in Coronado to Little Creek, Virginia. His soon-to-be-ex-wife was cheating on him with a fellow SEAL and he’s moved so he could get away from the constant reminder of it....

REVIEW: Zero Days by Ruth Ware

Dear Ms. Ware:

After reading and enjoying The It Girl last year, I was pleased when Janine alerted me to your new book. I wasn’t sure about the blurb, though:

Hired by companies to break into buildings and hack security systems, Jack and her husband, Gabe, are the best penetration specialists in the business. But after a routine assignment goes horribly wrong, Jack arrives home to find her husband dead. To add to her horror, the police are closing in on their suspect—her.

Suddenly on the run an...

JOINT REVIEW: Remember Me by Mary Balogh

Janine: Kaetrin and I have reviewed several books by Mary Balogh together, starting with Someone to Love, book one in the Westcott series. Remember Me is the second book in a newer series about the Ware family and we continue our joint review tradition with this review of it.

Pastoral scene with a young woman in profile wearing a straw bonnet and holding a parasol looking out over the water at a man in a rowboat.

In the first book in the series, Remember Love, we read about how the Earl of Stratton, father to Devlin and Philippa Ware (siblings and main characters in Remember Love and Remember Me, respectively), was discovered in ...

Dear Ms. Huguley,

For some years I’ve meant to read the “Daughters of the Nation” anthology only to discover that the four novellas are now being sold separately. Okay, I can get started on them tha...

REVIEW: Much Ado About Nada by Uzma Jalaluddin

Nada Syed is stuck. On the cusp of thirty, she’s still living at home with her brothers and parents in the Golden Crescent neighbourhood of Toronto, resolutely ignoring her mother’s unsubtle pleas to get married already. While Nada has a good job as an engineer, it’s a far cry from realizing her start-up dreams for her tech baby, Ask Apa, the app that launched with a whimper instead of a bang because of a double-crossing business partner. Nothing in her life has turned out the way it was suppo...
