REVIEW: Scary, Lovesick, Foolish: A Halloween Romance (Crazy, Sexy, Ghoulish Book 2) by G.G. Andrew

It was a question he had to ask…

Brendan Forrester loves his girlfriend, Nora. Like can’t-live-without-her, Gomez-to-her-Morticia-Addams loves her. But when he asks her for more, he can’t help but notice the look of fear in her eyes. Then a ghost from their past shows up at the horror festival they’re both in, and Nora starts to change. Soon Brendan is remembering things he’d rather forget–including the voice of a certain girl he thought they’d long since vanquished.

It was a chance she couldn’t pass up…

Whe...

REVIEW: Crazy, Sexy, Ghoulish: A Halloween Romance by G.G. Andrew

A zombie. A vampire. A witch. Nora Travers is none of these things.

But the former mean girl has to hide behind costumes if she wants to scare the pants off Brendan, the horror geek with the power to make or break her haunted house. Because Brendan is the nerd Nora used to torment in middle school. But now he’s all grown up and so scary hot, even her zombie heart starts beating.

And he’s looking a bit too long at her bloody fishnet stockings.

Nora has to be everything she’s not this Halloween so she can hide her tr...

REVIEW: All Cats are Introverts by Francesco Marciuliano

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of I Could Pee on This, Francesco Marciuliano presents this humorous and all too relatable book written from the perspective of some pensive, sometimes intense, but nonetheless insightful pets.

Have you ever been labeled as “antisocial,” “shy,” or “lost in your own thoughts” because you don’t realize someone’s been calling your name 148 times? The cats understand. All Cats Are Introverts is a collection of self-reflective poetry from cats that clearl...

REVIEW: Through the Water Curtain by Cornelia Funke

:

International bestselling children’s author Cornelia Funke has long been inspired and fascinated by fairy tales. This wonderful anthology is Funke’s personal selection of fairy tales from all around the world – not just from her native Germany but from Russia, Japan and the Native American tradition. It’s the perfect Christmas gift for any young reader wishing to discover the wider world of fairy tales.

Dear Ms. Funke,

Once again it was the cover that lured me in. Like a fairy tale character t...

REVIEW: Jade City by Fonda Lee

Dear Fonda Lee,

Your adult fantasy novel, Jade City (the first book in your Green Bone Saga), has won both the World Fantasy and Aurora Awards for Best Novel, as well as being nominated for the Nebula and Locus Awards. Set on an island with some similarities to Hong Kong, called Kekon, in the thriving city of Janloon, it’s the story of a leading family of fighters and the community they protect.

The novel’s Asian-influenced world has a level of technology that corresponds to that of our mid-to-late twentiet...

REVIEW: The First Step (Coastal Carolina, #1) by Shira Anthony

The first step is the hardest. After a scandal, New York political reporter Reed Barfield is lying low at the North Carolina coast, writing a story about the seafood industry. But it’s the harbor pilots on the Cape Fear River who capture his interest—men who jump across ten feet of open ocean to grab a rope ladder and guide huge container ships into port. Men like sexy but prickly Justin Vance.

After surviving an abusive childhood and a tour in the Navy, Justin isn’t fazed by his dangerous job—it’...

REVIEW: Minor Mage by T. Kingfisher

Oliver was a very minor mage. His familiar reminded him of this several times a day.

He only knew three spells, and one of them was to control his allergy to armadillo dander. His attempts to summon elementals resulted in nosebleeds, and there is nothing more embarrassing than having your elemental leave the circle to get you a tissue, pat you comfortingly, and then disappear in a puff of magic. The armadillo had about wet himself laughing.

He was a very minor mage. Unfortunately, he was all they had.

Dear...

[image error] A History of the World in Six Glasses by Tom Standage

I was looking for a light-ish but informative non-fiction read, and this seemed like it would fit the bill. It traces the history of humanity through six drinks: beer, wine, hard liquor, coffee, tea and finally soda. Each drink is given a section that explains its origins, its place in society and ultimately its effect on human behavior in the period. From beer with its roots...
