REVIEW: Scandalous Desires by Elizabeth Hoyt

Dear Ms. Hoyt:

I have not read the previous two books in the Maiden Lane series.  While I loved your initial books, Jayne began to review the series and she did such a competent job that I kept putting the Hoyt historicals aside to read and review others.  I was hankering to get back in the game.  For those readers who are unfamiliar with Hoyt or had gone on a Hoyt hiatus, like me, I can assure you that this book can be read without knowledge of the previous two in the Maiden Lane series...

Review: Bound by Night by Amanda Ashley

Dear Ms. Ashley.

I have no idea where to start with this review. My reactions to this book ranged from glee to boredom. The heroine is a personality-free wimp. The hero is an ass. The story brings nothing new to the table and reads like fanfiction. And yet every time I told myself I would not continue reading this book…I read more pages.

[image error]Bound by Night is about the romance between human Elena and vampire Drake. Elena is a young twenty-year old orphan living in Transylvania with her uncle. Her u...

Guest Author Post: Cover Art Development by Joan Swan and Pamela Palmer

When Joan Swan contacted me and asked if I was interested in an author guest post, I replied that I would be as long as it wasn't promotional in nature. She reached out to author Pamela Palmer and together they have presented this piece on cover art.

As with everything in the publishing process, the development of a book's cover art follows a similar path and, our course, that journey takes turns here and there based on more factors than I can name–different publishing houses, various...

Open Thread for Authors (Author Promo) for November 2011

Welcome to the November Promotional Thread for Authors. What's this you say? I read quite a few blogs outside the romance blogosphere and many of the big ones have a daily open thread where the commenters drive the bus.

The rules for Author Promo Night Open Thread are as follows:

The book has to be released in that month (i.e., anything released during the last week of October would be a November release)
You can post for yourself or you can have a friend post for you if the idea of posting...

REVIEW: Always a Temptress by Eileen Dreyer

Dear Ms Dreyer:

For the first third of this book, I had real doubts about whether I would finish it. The hero, Major Sir Harry Lidge, had fallen in love with Lady Catherine Anne Hilliard Seaton, Dowager Duchess of Murther ten years prior but because he believes that she tried to foist a bastard baby on him when she was fifteen and he was twenty, he despises her and attempts, at every juncture to wound her.

Ellen…4months ago

The core of it all was that the girl had to get my heart; that part was certain and I'd already set the dominos in motion that would mark her as the only match for the donation. But I had to die for that to happen—a task easier planned than...

Friday Midday Links: Spike Jonze's Stop Motion Love Story

You can now trade in your older Kindles for Amazon credit. A quick test shows a $46-47 trade in value for the Kindle 3G with keyboard and $36 for the wi fi only version. If you wanted to get the Kindle Touch, that would reduce the cost to about $50+ Not bad.

In other big Kindle news, Amazon has announced it will be moving away from Mobi to HTML5 based ebooks.  ePub3 is based on HTML5 as well. I see that as a sign that we may be moving toward a base standard of formatting with different DRM...
