A little history

To the best of my knowledge, in the past 15 years I've written well over 1 million words. The interesting thing is that not a word of them was fiction. I was a columnist for an underground Alternative Music publication as the grunge movement launched. I moved from there to work for a music and radio industry publication in Los Angeles called Radio & Records, and after that I moved on to writing about technology and media.

I enjoyed those years, but my dream since I was younger was to be a writer of stories and novels. I loved the fantastical stories of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Stephen King, Piers Anthony, and many others. About four years ago I decided to try my hand at fiction again, something I did in high school and college with disastrous results. This time, however, I was writing with a deft hand a solid grasp of how to tell a story.

I'm sure that writing a million words helped with that. In fact, I'm sure it was critical. So now I find myself taking those non-fiction lessons and turning them to fiction--just like I wanted to over 20 years ago.

I'm currently focusing on short stories, but a novel is in my future, and I hope that when it finally arrives you'll enjoy the experience of reading it half as much as I enjoyed my time reading all those great authors in my youth... and today.
