The conclusion of Vacation..sigh

I figured with the final day of my long awaited/needed vacation looming over me I would sum up what the past month has been like since I left the publisher-who-shall-not-be-named.

On 2/10 I drove a dear friend of mine to the airport and watched her leave my neck of the woods with no anticipated date of return. In fact, I think she would agree that she'll only be back when hell freezes over (she's not fond of the area).

After she left I spent a couple of weeks moping around until finally one day, my muse came back. It is as if being released from my contract has brought back my love of writing. Either that or I am just glad to NOT be editing right now.

Either way, I am currently sitting at 95K in book three of my series and know who book four will be about. I have come up with a lot of new ideas I have to work back into the first two books, which is another reason I am glad to be publisher-free right now.

I look forward to jumping back into Six Sentence Sunday next week when I get back into a normal routine.

Enlightment

Last year when I self-published my first novel for my friends and family I searched and searched for an image for the cover. After finding it on Flickr, I contacted the owner and asked permission. His only stipulation was that he received credit for the photo. The process took less than two days and cost me no money.

Fast forward a year and here I am in a similar mess. I recently learned that my former publishing company had used pictures without permission. I was naive enough to believe it hadn't happened to me. Until today.

I googled "Boston skyline with moon" and on the first page of images what do I find? That's right folks! I find the cover of my book, a much better picture as the resolution is amazing.

I have contacted the owner of the picture in hopes to alert him to the issue. Please know I was not aware of the theft and am doing everything in my power to ensure the rightful owner of the image is made aware.

Please be on the lookout for my full-length novel to be released later this spring, under a new name with a cover I will have the rights to.

Six Sentence Sunday #17

This is my NaNoWriMo WIP, tentatively called Unintended. Paige Michaels is in London escaping a psychotic stalker and is at a local pub about to meet up with her roommate's sister Amelia, or at least that was the plan. Last Six Sentence Logan, aka Mr. Charming, proposed a bet and this week we find out just how high those stakes are. Find out below.

"Okay, what are the stakes?"

"If I am able to replace your phone, like it was before the unfortunate swan dive, you will let me show you around London, including being my date for the wedding rehearsal tomorrow night and the wedding I am in Sunday afternoon."

She smirked, "Won't your friend mind a wedding crasher?"

"Not if you are my date."

Paige said, "And if you aren't able?"

"If I am unable to return a phone to you, I will reimburse you for your vacation."

Be sure to head over to Six Sunday to check out the other participants or to sign up for yourself!

Reasons, Seasons and Lifetimes

I am not sure where I originally heard that phase, but I realize it holds true in various aspects of life. The original application was describing how you come across different friends in your life. Those friends who come in and teach you something you needed to learn, those friends who were only with you for the briefest amount of time and finally those friends you know you will have for the rest of your life. This hold true with professional relations as well.

I first want to thank those who have purchased my teaser title released late last year. I also want to thank Trestle Press for giving an unknown author a chance. They came into my life for a reason; a swift kick in the backside to get my passion for writing out there.

The season for Vision of the Moons, in its current form, has come to a close and it is no longer available.

Thank you to cheezburger.com for the image

Does this mean it is gone for good?

Not a chance! It is currently being reviewed under another set of eyes and then it will be released as a full-length novel. I do hope you will continue to stick around for the new release!

Six Sentence Sunday #16

This is my NaNoWriMo WIP, tentatively called Unintended. Paige Michaels is in London escaping a psychotic stalker and is at a local pub about to meet up with her roommate's sister Amelia, or at least that was the plan. Last Six Sentence a "Wanker" according to the barman had bumped into her chair, sending her phone flying into a sink full of water. How will Logan, Mr. Charming, redeem himself? Find out below.

Logan said, "I promise you, by the time the sun rises tomorrow you will have a new phone and I'll even find a way to get all of your apps on it."

"Impossible. I was on a waiting list for that phone, what makes you so sure you can just make a call and have one coming?"

He leaned in, "Care to make a wager?"

She leaned away from him, but only a little. His cologne smelled amazing and intoxicating, helping her block out the smell of alcohol from her surroundings.

Be sure to head over to Six Sunday to check out the other participants or to sign up for yourself!

Is Your Novel a Spineless Weakling?

Reblogged from Kristen Lamb's Blog:

Now that NaNoWriMo is behind us, it is time to take a hard look at the 50,000 or so words we wrote. Is it really a story? Or is it 50,000 worth of organic goo that we can maybe perhaps grow into a story? Maybe some of you didn't participate in National Novel Writing Month, but you are working on a novel. Maybe you have finished a novel and can't understand why you're getting rejection after rejection. Perhaps you desire to write a novel, but have no clue …

A very interesting post about antagonists. It has me thinking about mine. Do you know who yours are?

Six Sentence Sunday #15

This is my NaNoWriMo WIP, tentatively called Unintended. Paige Michaels is in London escaping a psychotic stalker and is at a local pub about to meet up with her roommate's sister Amelia, or at least that was the plan. Last Six Sentence an idiot had bumped into her chair, sending her phone flying into a sink full of water.

The barman smiled, "I'd call him a wanker love, but smart ass works as well."

Paige laughed, "Wanker huh, I like the sound of that." She turned to the klutz, "Okay wanker, now what?"

The man winked at her, "I'd prefer you call me Logan."

Of course, he was putting on the charm act; he'd just ruined a four hundred dollar phone. "Okay, Logan, do you know how you're going to fix this?"
