FILM-STYLED BOOK TRAILER FOR THE VILLAGE SANG TO THE SEA

For some reason can't get the Goodreads feature to accept the book trailer for THE VILLAGE SANG TO THE SEA: A MEMOIR OF MAGIC. Please check it out if you haven't already seen it. It's at www.thevillagesang.com . My son, who created the trailer for my esp-in-war novel DREAM BABY (a trailer than went 125-k-viral on youtube), created this one, too. He's got a great filmmaker in him.

WHAT MAKES MG AND YA LIT? CELEBRATION--EVEN OF THE PAIN

THE VILLAGE SANG TO THE SEA is being reviewed as young adult fiction and even middle-grade fiction as well as adult (no one seems quite sure what it is)--but that's as it should be! It's a celebration, after all, of the wonder of middle-grade and teenage years--their magic and how important it is not to forget that magic no matter where life and time take us and even if those years were painful.
Giveaway&reviews: The book needs reviews at the Young Adult Books Central website--where it's up at http://www.yabookscentral.com/yaficti... . Anyone who reviews the novel there or elsewhere gets "ten entries" in giveaway of six items from the novel's world and story (sea shells, photographs, other objets)--giveaway details to be announced here soon. Thanks!

LOCUS ONLINE review of THE VILLAGE SANG TO THE SEA

A long and generous review of THE VILLAGE SANG TO THE SEA: A MEMOIR OF MAGIC by novelist Paul Di Filippo has appeared in LOCUS ONLINE. Di Filippo writes:
"A magnificent reading experience, shimmering and vital, at once otherworldly and naturalistic, that recalls such fine ancestors as Ray Bradbury's DANDELION WINE and Jeffrey Ford's THE SHADOW YEAR."

Shirley Jackson Award nomination

One of the long episodes in my new novel, THE VILLAGE SANG TO THE SEA: A MEMOIR OF MAGIC, has been nominated for a Shirley Jackson Award. The episode --originally titled "The Bleeding Child" when it appeared in CEMETERY DANCE magazine late in 2012, and has been renamed "The Crying Child" for both Ellen Datlow's BEST HORROR OF THE YEAR 5 and the Jackson Awards (the winners of which will be announced in July)--is the darkest one in the novel.

THE VILLAGE Is Up on Amazon and Barnes&Noble Again

Problems fixed. The novel is now back up on and available through Amazon, Barnes&Noble, other online booksellers, your brick-and-mortar booksellers and the publisher, Aeon Press, and the new look is perfect and gorgeous.
Don't be shy about reviewing on Goodreads, Amazon and elsewhere, please--thumbs-up or thumbs-down--either helps in this wacky world we live in.

Convention Launch of THE VILLAGE SANG TO THE SEA at ConDor 20

ConDor 20 in San Diego was great. Small convention, excellent programming, good spirit. First reading from THE VILLAGE SANG TO THE SEA: A MEMOIR OF MAGIC. Books didn't arrive in time, but I handed out 11X17 book-cover posters and 4X6 promotional cards (beautiful material designed by my son with Aeon Press's help). Never let anyone tell you that "magical realism" can't touch the human heart.
Any GoodReads friend who'd like a card or poster, let me know and I'll fire one or both your way.

What People Are Saying about THE VILLAGE SANG TO THE SEA

What people are saying about THE VILLAGE SANG TO THE SEA: A MEMOIR OF MAGIC

"The Village Sang to the Sea is a uniquely haunting book. It's quite simply a beauty.”
--Peter S. Beagle, World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement winner and author of The Last Unicorn

"The Village Sang to the Sea is that rarity: a book that delicately and perfectly captures the magic we all know underlies the world. You will not forget this book. Not ever."

--Nancy Kress, Hugo and Nebula awards winner

"The Village Sang to the Sea: A Memoir of Magic is just what its sub-title promises: magic.
--James P. Blaylock, World Fantasy Award winner

"Bruce McAllister's gorgeous new novel is magical realism at its very best. I loved it.”
--Terri Windling, co-editor of the The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror series

"In our early years we all believe and trust in endless possibilities. Most of us soon leave this realm, though some of us return from time to time. If we call it merely 'imagination,' we don't reach the truly magical. The Village Sang to the Sea: A Memoir of Magic got me there. It's delightful."
--Ron Arias, National Book Award nominee

Update on the New Novel

THE VILLAGE SANG TO THE SEA: A Memoir of Magic--my first novel in twenty years (can you hear the magnum corks popping?)--should be out in October or November.
Peter S. Beagle, World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Winner and author of THE LAST UNICORN and A FINE AND PRIVATE PLACE, has this to say about it:
"THE VILLAGE SANG TO THE SEA is uniquely haunting book, unlike any novel - fantasy or mainstream - I've read in a long time. It's a beauty--in the fullest sense of the word."
I'll be posting endorsements from writers like Nancy Kress, James P. Blaylock, Terri Windling, Barry Malzberg and National Book Award-nominee Ron Arias here leading up to the book's publication.
