New Releases and all the links

Wow – what a week it has been for me.  What a month.
It was my birthday on Monday – happy birthday me! – and as a treat for me, I decided I would finally figure out how to release a story on Amazon.  Otherwise known as “self-publishing.”  I don’t know how “self”ed it was, because there is a huge amount of people who helped me, and thank you to all of them, even if it was just a cheer in the background, telling me I could do it.
But I pressed the button, expecting Amazon to take their sweet, merry time about putting it up, and they did it in under 3 hours.  So last Saturday, my short story Out of the Rain was released.
It’s only 99c
– so make sure you click the link and check it out if you haven’t already.
Blurb Mitch never knew what awaited him when he answered his elderly neighbour’s calls. Finding a stranger crying in her backyard was a new one. Little did he know that rescuing Elijah out of the rain was going to change his life.
Elijah is too young, too good looking, and too bruised for Mitch to consider falling in love with. But Elijah is soon in his house, in his bed, and in his heart.
At thirty-eight, Mitch has a lot of experience with life. Elijah is only twenty-three and just starting out. Mitch’s bedroom skills enrapture Elijah. Mitch just hopes it will be enough to make Elijah want to stay.
Available HERE on Amazon.
The reason I wrote this, was I was asked to submit a story to an anthology, and as a favour I thought I would give it a week of my time and see if a short story could be pulled together.  Once finished, I loved it, but I didn’t think it fitted the guidelines of the anthology, so discarded it.
It was fun trying to make my guys fall in love in under 10,000 words.  I didn’t quite make it – it went a little over, but all-in-all, I’m extremely satisfied at how it turned out.  I had a quick look at some reviews, and it seemed that the main complaint was that the story was too short.  Oops.  Okay.  I prefer writing longer ones, too.  It just takes me a while.  Don’t stress, I won’t be giving up on my novels any time soon in favour of shorts.

In other exciting news, my next release from Dreamspinner Press, You Are the Reason is now available for pre-order from Dreamspinner and ARe.  The links are below.
Blurb Davo’s a pretty average guy. He has a decent job, owns his own home, and spends his weekends at the pub. He fully accepts that he’s gay, but doesn’t want to be one of those gays, who are femme and girly. He likes football and other masculine pursuits, and firmly avoids anything that could be seen as femme—including relationships that last beyond fifteen minutes.

Then Davo’s friend and gay idol not only gets a boyfriend, but also adopts a baby girl. Davo is seriously spooked and scuttles down to the pub in fright. That’s where he meets Lee, who is cute from her cherry-red hair, to her pretty little dress and pointy red shoes. Davo is charmed—but how is that possible? He’s gay. Isn’t he? Then Lee tells him he’s actually a guy—he just likes to wear women’s dresses occasionally. Thoroughly confused about an attraction that’s out of character for him, Davo begins the long journey to where he can accept himself without caring what everyone else thinks.

Click HERE for Dreamspinner Press and HERE for All Romance eBooks.
I really, really am excited for this one.  If you liked The Blinding Light, then you have to grab a copy of this.  You will get to catch up with Jake and Patrick, as they feature in the story.  But best of all, you get to fall in love with Davo and Lee.  Seriously, people.  These guys are just too cute to keep all to myself.

THEN, if that wasn’t enough releases, Shawn’s Lawcame out on audio recently, as well as Safe in His Arms.
They are available from Audible         here (Shawn’s Law)    and here (Safe in His Arms).

People often ask me what I’m working on, and if certain characters will get a story.  I give you permission to nag me.  Email me.  Facebook me.  Tweet me.  It helps to keep me focused.
I’m writing daily, and at the moment, I’m working on Paul & Andrew’s story.  I really need a name for it, other than “Paul & Andrew’s Story” – hopefully one will come to me soon.  It was supposed to end up around 60k-70k on the word count front, but at now 79k and still going, I must have a word to these guys.  We met Paul and his married lover in Safe in His Arms.  I never meant for Paul to have his own book, but I needed to give him a HEA.  People told him to give up on Andrew, and I didn’t want him to.
I also have 30,000 words on a story built from Loving Jay.  I re-read it last night, to see if it was any good, and nearly peed myself laughing.  It’s terrible when you don’t remember writing the words on the page.  (See birthday mention above.  I’m old now.)
Then after that, I think I want to start Mickey Ryan’s story.  Oh, yeah.  Mickey needs a story...

Summertime

This summer is kicking my butt.

Seriously.

I feel like I've gotten close to nothing done. I'm trying to figure out where the time has gone. It's as though I woke up and half of the summer is gone and I have nothing to show for it.

No fun family vacations.

Nothing exciting.

I've edited, which is good. I struggle when I'm not feeling productive. I'm not feeling extremely productive this summer, but the editing has helped.

So, yeah, that's where I'm at. Even though I'm not doing much, I feel like I'm struggling to keep up, while at the same time, not getting anything done! LOL.

I'm ready for Fall!!!

How is your summer going?

Life by Cardeno C.

Happy Monday. I just got back from a trip to the Pacific Northwest. I posted pics of Seattle and Canada on Facebook so you can see some of the beautiful sites. Other than a bit of heatwave, I'd say the trip was a perfect blend of fun and relaxing. A great way to see a new-to-me part of the world and spend time with cherished friends.

I'm taking the memories of this trip and locking them deep in my heart so I'll always remember my life, world, and friends like they are right now. I try to focus on the positive, the hopeful, the silver linings in life. Not Pollyanna, but definitely on the far edge of optimistic. That's been harder to do lately, but hopefully the visions in my head of smiles and laughter and late evenings chatting will help even as things get harder.

Thank you, Seattle and Canada for sharing your beauty with travelers who really needed it.

First Excerpt of You Are the Reason

It’s been a long day for me.  Really long.  I did something that was very brain taxing and required a lot of sugar and caffeine to keep me calm.  At one stage my husband said to me, “That’s your fourth coffee today.  Do you really think you need it?”
Did he really think he needed his balls anymore?
So I write this blog from laaaate at night my time.  I needed a blog for Cafe Risque.  I needed something that would have a good number of words on the page, but was easy for me.
Duh - you have a book coming out.  Excerpts??
Oh, yeah.
So I have a book coming out on the 7th of August.  **happy dance**  At times it seems as if every single author out there is bringing out books apart from me.  I’m happy for them - I really am.  But the green-eyed monster occasionally roars.  But finally it’s my turn.
So in case you missed the cover - here it is again.  And guess what?  I have pre-order links now!  Yes!  Dreamspinner have finally put them up.  Pre-order will be coming on Amazon too, but it will be another couple of weeks away.
Purchase as eBook from Dreamspinner
Purchase as paperback from Dreamspinner

If you missed the blurb:

Davo’s a pretty average guy.

So, to talk about the book - yeah, Davo’s a dick. (Not duck - I just typed duck. He’s not a duck and I need coffee). Davo’s a dick, but a loveable one. He had a scare when he was younger and now avoids anything that could make him seem girly. Like talking. He doesn’t think that as a gay guy he needs to talk to the person he’s hooking up with. So let’s see this except:

Talk?
If there was one thing I didn’t do with the guys I hooked up with, it was talk. I mean, apart from “Do you have a condom?” and “Are you okay?” There wasn’t much more to say, was there?
“Umm….”
There was an awkward silence before Lee snorted and laughed at me, “You really don’t do relationships, do you? I thought you were joking when you told me that.”
“I told you that?”
“Yes, on the first night we met. How to challenge a guy? Tell him he can’t have something. You told me you weren’t into the dating scene and the relationship mumbo-jumbo—your words, not mine—and so I immediately felt the thrill of the challenge. Now I have three dates with you lined up.”
Oh, yeah. He did, didn’t he?
Lee flicked me a sly and rather saucy grin. “You were comfortable talking to me when I was wearing a dress. What’s changed?”
The sexual tension.
I knew that immediately.
The first night with Lee, I had no sexual interest at all. The second night, there was some, but it was mostly confusion on my behalf. Because I was gay and he was a girl. Or at least I thought he was a girl.
But we were both guys, both interested, and I was unsure what to say. Because there was one thing I knew. “Do you have a condom?” were not the correct words.

Hope you enjoy...xx,
Renae

Cover Reveal: You Are the Reason

Isn’t it gorgeous?
I did feel like keeping it to myself, but (**sigh**) it’s too gorgeous.
Okay – let’s get the basics out of the way:    Name:  You Are the Reason
    Series:  The Tav #2
Other books in the series:  The Blinding Light
    Release Date:  7 August 2015
Blurb:  Davo’s a pretty average guy.

I asked a couple of people what they wanted to know about the book – the questions were:
How long is it?  226 pages        Is it set in Australia?  Yep!  Perth.  Location doesn’t play a big role in this book, apart from the fact both guys follow Aussie Rules football.  And are Australian.  And have a supposedly gorgeous Australian accent… *wink*
Stand alone?  This book starts about three weeks after The Blinding Lightended.  You can read You Are the Reason without knowing the story of The Blinding Light, but you’re going to end up with some spoilers if you read them out of order.
What’s it about?  Love and acceptance.  Acceptance of other people, but mostly acceptance of one’s self.  You see, Davo…
Okay – Davo is going to need a little more explanation.  There was a homophobic teacher in Davo’s past that scared him off acting “like a girl.”  You know the type of man?  Must be able to burp the alphabet and wrestle crocodiles before you prove your manhood?  Yeah.  So at a young and impressionable age, Davo learned that “being girly” was bad.  So he went out of his way to cut anything “girly” out of his life.  No pink.  No glitter.  No femme friends.  No emotions.
It’s become an instinct to him.  He knowshe’s being a dick, but he still shies away from the more sparkly gay people of this world.  He thinks relationships are for girls.  (And hence not for him).
Then he meets Lee – who happens to be dressed as a woman.  Davo’s confused about his attraction to this woman – he’s never felt attraction to a woman before.  It’s not until their third meeting that Lee confesses the truth - he's a guy. But I like to dress in women’s clothes sometimes.
Dave runs – Lee is one of those gays.  But that attraction has him tightly wound to Lee.  Davo needs to learn acceptance fast.  He needs to learn acceptance of people around him, but he also needs to let his inner femininity out.  And that it’s okay.
Warning:  Contains hot sex scenes, shitty nappies on babies, gay dads who aren't getting any sleep, one Magic 8 Ball that never lies, and stripping to You Can Leave Your Hat On.

Sense8

I'm not a big TV watcher. I'd much rather be writing or reading. I'm not big on sci-fi kind of shows either so had I not had it recommended to me, I probably never would have watched Sense8. I am so glad I did. I am obsessed with this show.

It's a little confusing. Honestly, I was lost for a couple episodes but as you get more into it, it makes more sense. Basically 8 people from all around the world, from totally different lives are suddenly linked mentally. They start to feel each other's feelings and learn their thoughts. They're able to "visit" mentally and help each other out.

That description sounds boring...or just blah, I get it. It's hard to put into words exactly what this show is until you watch it. It's about connection, humanity, and emotions. I fell for the characters. I felt like I was living their lives and experiences with them. This show is emotional, funny, sexy...like really sexy, with a twisty plot. I'm so glad I gave it a shot! I guess what they say is true, right? Never judge a book by it's cover. I would have judged this show without watching it and missed it's brilliance.

Have you watched Sense8? What do you think? Who are your favorite characters? If not, what's the last show you loved that you didn't think you'd like?
