Easing into 2017 By S.C. Wynne

I hope you're all easing into the new year gracefully. I'm trying, but to be honest it's a struggle. The
news has me agitated all the time and I don't even watch the news! But my family and friends love to tell me all the crazy stuff happening so my hair is standing on end most days.

How about you? Are you feeling like 2017 will be a better year than 2016? I know a lot of people couldn't wait for 2016 to be gone, but I'm almost more terrified of this coming year. I know we lost a lot of wonderful celebrities last year and it didn't seem to stop until the last second of 2016 ticked past.

I have many changes in my life coming. My husband and I have sold our business so that will make life exciting. And the one thing I've learned about life, is that change comes whether you want it or not, so you might as well bend like the bamboo plant or you might just snap in two.

So lets lift our chins and face the coming year with optimism. Let's make like a young, green bamboo plant and bow to 2017.

Friday with Felice by Felice Stevens

Happy New Year! I've been writing like a little fiend lately. As if I didn't have enough with Reunited coming January 31st and the re-releases of After the Fire and Embrace the Fire in the next few months, an idea for a Valentine's short story literally popped into my head as I was falling asleep the other night.

Within two days I have almost 8,000 words written. this will most likely be a free shorty story offered on all sales platforms. It's about the guys from Learning to Love—chef Gideon and Jonah the Rabbi.

So because I didn't have much time to write a post, I turned it over to the wonderful readers in my group to ask me questions.
So here we go:

1.Who are your favorite characters both in your own books and other people's books?
Ooh everyone always wants to know your favorite child!!  I do love them all, but the ones I loved writing the most were, Asher Davis from A Walk Through Fire, Marcus Feldman from Second to None and Gideon Marks from Learning to Love. I just love them.

As for my favorite characters from other books, in MM I love Adrien and Jake from Josh Lanyon, and Nick and Perry from The Ghost wore Yellow Socks from Josh as well. I know there are more. In MF books, I love Damon deWolfe from Danelle Harmon's Wicked at Heart and Lord Tristan from The Lord of Temptation, by Lorriane Heath. These two books SO GREAT!!!

2.Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
RETIRED AND ON A BEACH!!!

3.What do you do for fun? You work a lot.
I do. But I do have fun while I work. I have a close group of writer friends and we help each other. I love to cook and many of the meals I mention in my books I make myself. I spend time with my children; we go out to breakfast on the weekends  and my daughter and I go to the gym together. I love to travel and I'm lucky my husband loves to plan trips. I used to knit and do needlepoint; I should get back into it. And of course I read.

Well, that's it for the first Friday with Felice post. I hope you enjoyed it!!

Cover Reveal: GONE FOR YOU

Hello! I'm really excited to share the cover, blurb, and excerpt for GONE FOR YOU. The first book in the Wild Side series (previously rambled about by yours truly under the title West Hollywood Boys).

I'm loving this series. I've already started book two. I love the branding of Wild Side, which will be on each cover and matches the signage on the bar in the series. I've also been working on a special surprise in this book...something you guys will see when you read it and I hope you love it as much as I do. It's different and fun and GAH, I'll stop rambling now!

Here is the cover :)

Title: GONE FOR YOU
Series: Wild Side
Release Date: February 6, 2017
Cover Design: X-Potion Designs
No preorder at this time.
Goodreads

Blurb:
Oliver Hayes wears his heart on his sleeve, and his friends never let him forget it. Every Friday night spent at Wild Side, their favorite West Hollywood bar, Oliver’s lack of hookups becomes the hot topic. It’s not that he doesn’t want a good time. He just wants it to mean something, which is a lofty goal when he’s still pining after his childhood crush, Matt, who left ten years ago to start a new life in New York City.

Matt Daniels has always felt most at home seated at a piano. He might not have entirely fit in with his family and friends, but he was always able to find himself in music. Or at least he did before he gave up his dream a lifetime ago. Now, he has a successful modeling career and should be enjoying every second of it. Yet nothing feels right, and Matt fears he’s losing himself.

Just when Oliver decides to get over Matt for good, Matt waltzes back into LA. As Matt struggles to understand what he’s missing in his seemingly perfect life, he falls right back into leaning on Oliver for support. Things aren’t what they used to be between them, though. They tumble into bed together, and it’s hard not to continue ending up there. For the first time in years, Matt’s inspired to compose again, reigniting a spark he thought long extinguished.

But as always, Oliver can’t keep his heart in check, and soon Matt realizes he’s gone for Oliver too. The biggest question is, can he fully give himself to someone if he still hasn’t figured out how to love himself?

Excerpt:

“What are we doing?” he asked when Matt’s skillful mouth traveled down his throat.

Matt sucked on the spot where his neck met his shoulder, before he replied, “I don’t know, Ollie. I just know…know that I need you right now.”

He could hear Matt warring with himself, hear it in the rough edge to his voice. Feel it in the way his body tensed up when he said the word need. It wasn’t easy for Matt to need anyone or anything, but Oliver would take on the fucking universe to make sure Matt had it. There wasn’t a time in his life when he wouldn’t but this moment right here? He couldn’t pretend this was just for Matt. Couldn’t pretend he wasn’t greedy for him, that the fire searing through him for Matt was based on anything more than his primal hunger for the man. To have him, take him, fuck him, even if it was only once. He’d wanted Matt for years, loved him since he was a kid and as they stood in the middle of his room, Matt’s hand running up and down his back, his cock pressed against Oliver’s leg, he damn sure planned to have him. In that moment, he didn’t give a shit about the consequences.

Something More Serious with BA, Julia, Kiernan and Sean

As most of y'all know, we try to keep things pretty light here at the Cafe.

The four of us love to play around, but as authors, sometimes we have to address something that affects all of us, at least in the romance community.

Most of you are probably at least tangentially aware of the closing of the major romance bookseller site All Romance Ebooks. This was not a big deal to some readers, because a lot of folks go through Amazon, but it was a one stop shop for a lot of readers who wanted something not Kindle format.

The upshot of the closing for the four of us, besides the fact that Lori James has refused to pay us to the tune of a hefty sum I won't go into here, is that our newest releases, the ones on preorder especially, never saw the light of day. For me, BA and Kiernan, that included three new historical paranormal books ARE was actually publishing. The series is called Club Raven, and we've been working feverishly to reformat the files and rebrand the books and get them back out.

We're hoping to have them out by the 17th, and they'll be on Amazon, Nook, Smashwords, and hopefully ibooks. The best part, though, is that we also (crossing fingers) hope to have them available direct at a bookstore we're making called Evil Plot Bunny. You can see the bare bones of the site at www.evilplotbunny.com, though I ask that no one make an account until we launch on the 17th as we're still testing.

Now, EPB is not a publisher. It's going to be a bookstore for our self-published works. Nothing fancy, but it will take Paypal and cards, and we hope it will make things easier for the readers who prefer not to buy Kindle books. We'll have the mobi files, though, even if you want to buy from us and load on your Kindle.

BA's Nature Call book will be up there, as well, and we hope Sean Michael's Mannies etc.

I promise more information to come, but most of all, we want to thank everyone who reads our books for sticking with us, no matter what the crazy world of publishing tosses at us.

My Writing Space by Christa Tomlinson

Since I mucked out my work space today, I thought I'd share a few pics of it with you. I just moved into this apartment in October and I've had to make a few adjustments. In my old house, I had an entire room for my office. Now, I only have a dining area that I commandeered for writing. I thought it'd be hard to concentrate, since I wasn't behind a closed door like I'm used to. But once I have coffee in my belly and my headphones on blasting music (this week I'm all about the Yuri On Ice soundtrack), I'm in my own little writing world.

When I first moved in, I had plans for making my "office" into one of those Pinterest worthy spaces. You know what I mean, matching white furniture - with the desktop strangely devoid of any work, French bulletin boards with prettily patterned backgrounds, and elegant artwork. I got as far as the white furniture. Then I laughed and put up my Captain America art, crammed my glitter notebooks onto the bookcases and got to writing. My work space might not be Pinterest pretty, but it's mine and I love it.

I'm something of a notebook hoarder. I can't stop buying them! But I at least put them to good use. Each story idea gets a binder and matching notebook. I record my thoughts there and when it's time to write that book I'm already organized and ready to go! #NerdLife

This is Chunky. You can't see it, but there's a little space heater behind her. It's supposed to be for me to stay warm and toasty while writing. But the dogs are always laying in front of it, so I never get any of the warmth for myself. Poor me.

This is as neat as you'll ever see my desk. I always laugh when I see those lovely pictures of desktops that are completely bare with the exception of a keyboard and monitor. Where are all the ink pens, empty coffee mugs, candy wrappers, and piles of paper? #WritersLife

Ah, bulletin boards. I love them, but can't hang one straight to save my life. Maybe my vision is crooked. Or I should stop being lazy and use a level...

And that's my work space! A warm (when there isn't a dog in front of the heater) and cozy little writing nook.  =)

P.S. Pop on over to my personal blog. I listed my Top Ten Reads of 2016 and I'm giving away a $25 Barnes & Noble gift certificate for one lucky reader. All you have to do is comment on that blog post with a book recommendation for me. Ends January 11th. Good luck!

Thanks for reading!

It's A New Year! It's A New Day! By S.C. Wynne

Hi all!

It's here! It's 2017! Do you feel different? Has your life take a dramatic turn? Okay, it is only seven days in.

I think this year will be good. I'll admit I'm a bit apprehensive about our new President. I try not to think about it most of the time. But all things change and all things pass whether we want them to or not. I'm looking to the future because it will come regardless.

Do you have high hopes for your coming year? Are you trying to be positive or have you given into the glum thoughts that often stalk us? I'm determined to be optimistic about 2017. I like to think that having a good attitude will make things easier. It definitely will make it easier on those around me!

I once worked with a man who was cheerful no matter what. It didn't seem to affect him if things were dire. He was always the same regardless of his circumstances. I want to be like that. I'm not like that yet. I tend to react and then catch myself. But wouldn't it be amazing to just immediately respond with confidence that all will be well?

I think my New Years Resolution will be to react slower. The trust that things will work themselves out without me driving the bus all the time. I want to be more patient and I'm going to work on that during 2017.

So Happy New Year to you all and I'm thinking only good thoughts for us all!

S.C.

DARE YOU TO, release day!

Today is the release day of my novella, DARE YOU TO. It was previously released in the anthology IT WAS ALWAYS YOU and is a prequel to my upcoming Wild Side series! DARE YOU TO is currently exclusive to Amazon and if you're a member of KU you can read it for free!

Available from Amazon

Austin Thompson spends most of his spare time reading or logging in extra hours at the LGBTQ youth center where he works. His only standing “night out,” if you can call it that, is his weekly movie night with his best friend, Dare Nichols. Between work and Dare, it’s hard to find time for much else, so when he does try to date, it ends in disaster.

Dare thrives on living life on the wild side—surfing, mountain biking, sky diving. If it’s extreme, he’s game. Between sports and spending his evenings at his West Hollywood bar, Dare never sees a dull moment. Still, with all that excitement, most of his favorite times are when he’s tucked away in Austin’s apartment. Probably because he’s the best friend Dare’s ever had.

Then the kiss happens and the men realize they don’t want to stop there. As they explore this new adventure in their relationship, Austin realizes the excitement he’s been looking for has been right there all along, and Dare must decide if he can conquer his only fear by risking his heart.

New Place to Buy My Books by Cardeno C.

Happy Monday and happy new year! The end of 2016 was a bit of an adventure in reader-land when All Romance ebooks - one of my favorite places to buy books - went out of business, taking with it people's libraries. Most people read on Kindle and like to buy their books on Amazon, but there are readers who prefer to read on epub or pdf and there are some who read on a Kindle but want to buy their books elsewhere so I've spent the last few days trying to find alternative places to sell my books. Thanks to great advice from readers, I'm trying a new place called Payhip and I'd love to know your thoughts on it.

There are three things I like about Payhip.
Readers can get 25% off all my books. On the right side of each of my product listings on Payhip there's a "Share" button. If you click on that link to share the book on FB or twitter, Payhip automatically reduces the book price for you by 25%!The books are available in all formats (epub, pdf, and mobi) and you can download them so they're not stuck in the cloud where someone can take them from you. You pay for books with PayPal and from what I understand, that's helpful for people outside of the U.S. I linked Payhip to each product page on my website. If you try it, let me know what you think. Have a great week.

Happy New Year and 2017 Goals by Christa Tomlinson

Ah, 2016. It was a year that existed. I had a lot of plans for 2016. Unfortunately, they didn’t all pan out.  Probably because I didn’t actually sit down and plan out my plans. Or even write them down so I’d remember what they were. Funny how that works.
But I did manage to accomplish a few things. I published The Detective’s Pleasure, Officer Ryan Bennett and Detective Sam Roberts’s story. I published Showing Him the Ropes, a romance set in the world of professional wrestling, and something I’d been wanting to write for two years. And I sold my house, so I could move into an easier to manage apartment. Yay! All good things!
For 2017 I’m already one step ahead. I actually wrote down my professional goals. Progress!
Publish Five WorksNow is the time for me to be more focused in my writing. I realize that only publishing one or two books a year won’t get me over that hump from part-time/hobbyist writer to full-time career writer. Which means I’ll be buckling down and dedicating my time and effort to producing more stories that I, and hopefully others, will love.
Attend at least one genre conferenceI went to Rainbow Con in 2015. And like a typical introvert I was tense and stressed. I liked the panels and learning, but having to talk to people I don’t know and be around so many people at the same time was exhausting. When I got home, I swore I’d never go to another. But I didn’t really mean it. I want to know my fellow m/m romance people and I love talking books. So I’m determined to try again.
Attend at least three meetings for the West Houston RWAAgain, I’m forcing myself out of my comfort zone. I want to learn more about the business of romance writing and connect with others in the industry. Getting out from behind my computer and into public spaces with other writers is the way to make that happen. I was a little concerned about joining West Houston RWA because of my genre. But when I spoke with Membership Chair, Karen Pugh, she was very welcoming and assured me they embrace diversity. They even had Damon Suede there as a guest speaker. I’m so bummed I missed it. Here’s hoping he’ll be back in 2017.
Public Speaking I don’t miss the politics or endless and often ridiculous demands of being a teacher. But I do miss teaching. It’s in my blood. I love learning and sharing my knowledge with others. It’s the best feeling when I help someone understand something they didn’t get before. With that in mind, I’d like to give a guest lecture or sit in on a panel. Rainbow Con has some cool ones, so I’m considering signing up for a few.
Post regularly on both my blog and Café RisqueI’m so thankful Cardeno C.invited me to participate in Café Risque. It gave me the motivation I needed to start blogging on a regular basis. I’m enjoying it and I’ve started posting on my own blog on a regular basis as well. I definitely plan to continue posting on both throughout the year. If there’s anything you want to see me blog about, let me know!
Get back into writing fanfictionI miss it! I had a lot of fun writing fanfiction. And it’ll be a chance for me to write without the pressure of publication. It will also help me explore some things I want to try before I take them to market. *cough* Historical Fantasy! *cough* So I’ll be seeing you soon, FFDN!
Read 50 books. Okay, don’t laugh. I know fifty books isn’t a lot. Especially compared to how many I used to read before I started publishing. But lately, I haven’t had the time to read that much. Or I should say, I haven’t made time to read like I used to. This year, I’m determined to make more time to read and relax.
That’s it! I think it’s a pretty manageable set of goals. Now I just have to stay patient and realize I can’t accomplish them all by January 15th. I’m looking forward to working hard to reach these goals in 2017. And you’d better believe I’m giving myself a cookie every time I accomplish one. I’d love to see your goals for the year. Feel free to share in the comments!

Happy New Year and I wish you all the best for health, wealth, and happiness in 2017.

Thanks for reading!
