Play List by S.C. Wynne

Hi, all!

When I write I have trouble listening to music with lyrics because I want to sing along and I can't write and sing! I tend to stop writing and just belt out a few verses. lol

If I need to be really productive I'll use BrainFM. I got a lifetime membership for a cheap price a while ago and I like it. It's different in that it just plays music with no words. They have music for focusing and relaxing and sleeping even. I only use the focus music since that's the only reason I'm listening.

I definitely use music to inspire some scenes in my books. I love trolling YouTube for great songs that are filled with angst to help me feel who my characters are going to be. Certain songs just speak to me. Tug at my heart.

While writing a story for Felice Steven's Kindle World launch I've been listening to a lot of songs:

Lost Boy by Ruth B
Unsteady by X Ambassadors
Hurts Like Hell by Fleuire
I Found by Amber Run

I just put them on loop with my headphones and listen to them over and over while writing painful, emotional scenes. It really works. It's like a soundtrack to my book.

weird things we learned this week from BA, Julia, Kiernan and Sean

Sean Michael

Dayquil and Nyquil do not help at all with a wet cough.

Always call the airport to check when security is open before an early morning flight. There is no use being at the airport two hours early for an international flight at say 4am if the security doors don't open until 5.

Squirrels love tulip bulbs, but don't like daffodil bulbs.

Editors like commas waaaaaaaay more than I do.

My characters do not care which ones are supposed to be getting the bulk of my attention based on deadlines - they will always do their own thing.

Sometimes you just have to have a steak. Or at least sometimes I do.

Kiernan Kelly

was at outlantacon, a glbt sci-fi co vention this past weekend. We shared the hotel with a bodybuilding con. No lie - all weekend we joked that there were power lifters to the left, and power bottoms to the right.

Anyway, I learned why weight lifters wear those skimpy little singlets. Turns out, there are articles of clothing you can wear that will help you lift more weight, like compression shorts. You can't hide anything under a singlet.

Also - and here's where weird comes in - if you try to lift more than your body will allow (which is against the rules), you'll poop. You can't wear Depends under a singlet and disguise the mess.

There. Now you can't stop seeing it, too. You're welcome.

In Georgian London, most goldsmiths were Huguenots, fleeing religious persecution in France.

Can you tell who was researching a book?

Ask CC (05.15.17) by Cardeno C.

Happy Monday! It's time for an Ask CC post,
Question: What is your favourite series that you have written??

CC: I don't think I can answer that question because I don't really have a favorite. I like different things about different books. My most current release To Touch You is in my Mates collection, which is a four book shifter (and sometimes) vampire paranormal series so that's a good place to start if you want paranormal. My Home collection (7 books) and my Family collection (4 books) are contemporaries so that's where I'd suggest starting if you like contemporaries.

Question: I've read Perfect Imperfections again still love it by the way.  Are you planning a mini/short about the wedding or later down the road when they are maybe ready for kids/dogs.

CC: Never say never but I'm not one for sequels so I don't have that scheduled right now. With that said, if I ever did write a sequel, it'd almost certainly be for those guys.

Question: (1) Please tell me you are writing another Siphon book. I have read and listened to Johnnie so many times I can recite the book. Love it!!  Thanks.- Steph
(2) Hi CC...when do you plan to write another Siphon or Pack book?   Those have been my favorite series!
(3) Do you know when you will have a second book in the Siphon series written or ready for release?

CC: I have both books planned and it's just a matter of finding the time. (I see a trend as I read my questions and answers...)

Question: I just heard the audio for In Another Life. OMG, talk about making me cry on public transport! ... Seriously, this is one of the stories which just sticks with me and has the emotion going while remembering. My question is this: Do you think you will have a follow up their Shiloh and Travis's story?

CC: No, I don't have a sequel planned for In Another Life. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

Question: Do any of your Home series books have Direct sequels?

CC: No, none of my books have direct sequels. My books are all standalones about different couples. The "collections" are in the same world with cameos but each couple has their own book in all of them.

Question: Where can I buy pub version of your latest book, To Touch You?

CC: You can buy epub versions of my books at Payhip

Thanks so much for the wonderful questions! If you want to ask me a question that I'll answer on a future blog post, you can let me know here. Have a great week.

Hard-Ass Vacation by S.C. Wynne

I just re-released Hard-Ass Is Here last month and now the re-release of the sequel Hard-Ass
Vacation is almost polished and ready to go. Originally the sequel was called Hard-Ass Christmas, but it really isn't a Christmas story other than it takes place during that season. It's mostly a story about these two men who are just beginning a relationship and the growing pains that come along with that.

Taylor is guarded and untrusting, while Phillip is at a place in his life where he's more ready to make a commitment when he finds what he wants. And he wants Taylor.

Hard-Ass Vacation
Excerpt:

He sighed. “You always do that.”

“What?” I frowned.

“Move away first chance you get.”

My face warmed. “I do?”

“Yep.” He pretended to sniff under his arms. “I just showered so I shouldn’t stink.”

“Sorry.” I cleared my throat. “I didn’t know I did that.”

“You do.” He moved up and joined me, his shoulder bumping into mine. “But I’m secure enough to not take it to heart.”

“Good. It’s not intentional.”

“I know. Any idea what you’re doing for Christmas yet?” he asked abruptly.

I didn’t.

“Not a clue.” I’d just come out of a messy relationship. I’d screwed up and acted like an idiot when I caught my ex cheating, and had the pleasure of being arrested. The last six months had been so tumultuous, dealing with the aftermath of his betrayal and my own bad judgment, that I hadn’t thought about where I’d be hanging my Christmas stocking this year. Besides, the holidays held no charm for me. They never had.

Phillip was quiet. Watching him out of the corner of my eye, I tried to study his sharp features without being detected. His long, dark lashes flickered as he tapped his chin as if deep in thought.

He turned his head and addressed me. “May I make a suggestion?”

“I’d be surprised if you didn’t.”

He frowned. “What does that mean?”

I laughed. “It’s just a joke.”

His lips twitched. “Are you saying I’m bossy?”

“You are my boss.”

He chuffed. “As I was saying… from what little you’ve told me about your past, I can assume you won’t be spending Christmas with your parents, correct?”

That was a safe assumption. I’d rather stick a hot poker in my eye than visit those two. “Of course not.”

He nodded. “And your ex is probably afraid of you, so odds are he won’t be inviting you over for the holidays.”

I winced. “It’s no laughing matter.”

“Right, no, sorry.”

“Until that night I was in one fight, in grade school.” I scowled and crossed my arms.

“I know—”

“I’ll bet you were in more fights than me,” I grumbled.

“I had a few when I was much younger.”

“Kids get in fights all the time and I was in one.” I held up my finger. “One lousy argument over where to sit on the bus.”

He held up his hands. “I didn’t mean anything by it.”

“You make me sound like a bully.” You’re making me sound like my father.

“It was a lame joke. I didn’t mean it, I swear.” Phillip grabbed my hand and squeezed it gently.

I didn’t say anything.

“I was nervous because of what I was going to ask you,” he said. “I don’t want to spook you by coming on too strong and so I blurted out the first dumb joke that came to me.”

I frowned, but I was starting to relax because of his reassuring tone. The gentle stroking of his thumb against my skin was distracting, and I inhaled deeply and forced myself to chill. “What were you going to ask?”

He hesitated and then he said, “I’m trying to iron out my—our—holiday plans.”

Our holiday plans?

“Oh.” I was definitely surprised he’d thought that far ahead. Pleasantly surprised. “What… what kind of plans?”

“I was going to suggest we spend Christmas together. It’s only four days away.” He watched me as if waiting for a reaction.

Surprise and warmth spread through me, replacing irritation. He wanted to spend Christmas with me. I basked in the glow of that for a moment, enjoying the fact that he must be as into me as I was him.

“What do you usually do over the holiday break?” he asked.

“To be honest, I never do much. Sometimes people from work have me over for a pity meal.”

He laughed drily. “That’s so sad.”

I shrugged. “Hey, I get a free meal.”

“Would you want to do something a little different this year?”

I bit my lower lip. “Perhaps. How different?”

“I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it, but I have a house in Big Bear. I was wondering if you wanted to go there with me?”

“Big Bear?”

“Yes. It’s beautiful there this time of year. It’s very Christmassy.”

I hesitated. All I knew about Big Bear was it was in the mountains and near a lake. The idea of venturing into the wilderness didn’t exactly thrill me. I wasn’t much of an outdoorsman, just ask my father. My dad had pegged me a complete wimp when it came to all things outside. When I was younger he’d plan elaborate hunting trips to impress his business friends, and I’d stay in the cabin with my nose in a book. It had pissed him off that I didn’t want to join him shooting rabbits and gutting fish.

“We can build a big fire in the fireplace and drink expensive wine.”

“Um… I’m no Daniel Boone,” I said. It was best he knew the real me. Even if it meant I’d be spending Christmas alone in my apartment.

He brushed the side of my cheek with his thumb. “Taylor, I don’t expect you to be. I’m not either. But it’s a beautiful place, and it’s supposed to snow tomorrow night so it will be cozy and secluded, and I can’t wait to have you all to myself.”

My stomach warmed at how earnest he sounded. “You really should have framed your invitation with that last bit.”

“Like I said, I was nervous you’d shoot me down immediately.” He smiled.

“I like the sound of spending some more time with you.” I avoided his gaze as I spoke, feeling a little embarrassed about being so open about my feelings.

“Yeah?” He squeezed my hand. “Good.”

“I can’t believe Christmas is just a few days away.”

“I know. But if we leave tomorrow afternoon, we should be able to settle in before the snow hits. But we’ll need to get everything ready today.”

I nodded slowly. “Okay.”

“Yeah? You’re up for it?”

“I think so.”

He sighed. “We’re good, right?”

“Yes.” I laughed sheepishly. “I didn’t realize you were just teasing earlier.”

“I’ll let you do the jokes from now on.” He pulled me tighter into his arms, hugging me close.

“I think it would be best. Let a professional handle it.”

“I agree.” He chuckled and let me go. “Do you have any winter clothes?”

“I do. I know you’re originally from New York, so you may not be aware that even in California people have winter clothes.”

“Are they for those frigid days when the temperature plummets to seventy-nine degrees?”

“Very funny. Greg and I attempted to go skiing once, so we bought some stuff. It was a nightmare. All we did was argue the whole trip.” I climbed off the bed.

“He sounds like a wonderful guy,” he called after me as I headed into the shower.

Ask Andrew - Need Your Questions

The last few weeks have been difficult.  I have been traveling a lot and Dominic's father past away.  So I apologize for my absence.  Next week I'd love to return full force, but I need your questions to do so.  Forward them to andrewgreybooks@comcast.net and I will do my best to answer them for you.

Ask Andrew is your chance to ask questions of a gay romance author.  The questions can be about the writing process in general, writing sex scenes, gay men, sex, characters in romance, characters having sex... okay you probably get the picture.    I promise to answer your questions as frankly and with as much humor as I possibly can.

So if you have a question, please send it to andrewgreybooks@comcast.net.  This is different from my usual email so your questions don't get lost.  I will answer one question a week.

Please remember this is meant to be all in fun.  (I was going to say good, clean fun, but who wants that.)    So send me your questions and let's see what mischief we can get into.

Visit Andrew on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/andrewgreybooks  and you can join Andrew's fan group All The Way With Andrew Grey.

My Husband the Cook by S.C. Wynne

Morning all,

My husband and I owned a coffeehouse which we sold in March. I've started writing full time and what's weird is sometimes I feel like I have more interruptions now than when I was at my business. Of course this isn't true, but it feels that way on certain days. I thought I'd have so much privacy, but I'm literally never alone anymore. lol

I write all day and my husband has taken to being a house-husband. He cooks most nights and he's actually getting pretty good at it. It was funny to watch him talking recipes with one of my sisters this Easer. They were comparing notes and sharing tips. He's proud of his new skills and I love that about him,

I have zero problems being the sole income, and he has zero issues being a kept man. I think about my parents generation and I think my mom and dad would have been uncomfortable with our arrangement. We love it.

I will say though, while my husband is a good cook, he is useless at cleaning toilets. :)
