“…to any teenage boys out there who might be reluctant to read about girls or books written by women: What are you afraid of? The worst thing that could happen is you’ll discover that girls are people too, and not necessarily all that different from you. The best thing you’ll learn is how you can act like a decent person, so girls might not mind talking to you. They might even say yes when you ask them out. They might ask you out, and you should be cool with that. Another boy might ask you ou...

"I could slap him. God, I could kiss him - he hasn’t abandoned me."

“I could slap him. God, I could kiss him - he hasn’t abandoned me.”

These Broken Stars, By Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner (via themanatthecenter)

Significant because of its echo in one of Tarver’s chapters: “I could shake her. I could kiss her. I can’t do either.”

As I said last night on twitter: To everyone who thinks it’s bizarre or shocking or scary to write lesbians into fantasy novels: do it anyway. It is awesome is what it is.

To clarify because this is tumblr and now I have more than 140 characters, what I mean is every so often I see someone blogging or tumblring or tweeting about how difficult they find the concept of writing about lesbians is, especially in speculative fiction. And by difficult I mean they really want to...

Lady on the bus next to me: Tell me again- what are you not going to do in daycare today?

Lady on the bus next to me: Tell me again- what are you not going to do in daycare today?

Little boy: I will not hit the teacher with a light saber.

Lady: And why are you not going to hit her with a light saber?

Boy: It is my toy, and my choice, but if I hit her with the light saber, I'm acting like a Sith.

Lady: Do you want to be a Sith?

Boy: No! I am Obi-Wan!

I think he’s getting better with age. Good for him, honestly.

And I like his choices for roles. I want to see Horns like no one’s business. Though I think it will give me crazy nightmares, I think it’ll be the good kind of nightmares, the kind that make me think interesting and distressing things the next day.

I’ve been hinting at this rather a lot, butThe Body Electric does not take place in America…in fact, it takes place in a part of the world that is rarely written about.

Your task: take a guess as to where the book is located. There are LOTS of clues out there—in fact one person has already messaged me with a guess that is correct, and that’s before I’ve posted all the clues.

You can read the first chapter of the book here at Wattpad—there are two major clues as to the setting...
