Good girls, inspiration and characters that get out of hand
Desiree writes:
It has been said that good girls are naturally drawn to bad boys. With a lot of retrospection, I think I have enough data to make an effective argument that bad boys are more inevitably drawn to the challenge of a good girl.
I think there is a lot of truth in this. I know the genesis of Psalm of Hate was a lot like this. I saw a woman who entranced me. She was beautiful and capable and good. And there was part of me that wanted to drag her into my vortex of depravity. Since doin...

The Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boynton
This may surprise some of you, but I love The Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boynton. I love it when my kids want to read it. I’ve memorized the text. It is so soothing and idyllic. The story – such as it is – centers around a boat full of animals. It does not appear to be Noah’s Ark unless Noah fell out of favor with God and got eaten by a bear or a lion. Just animals on this boat.
They seem to have no destination or agenda. We just seem to stumble up an evening in their lives. Part of the attra...

Mork calling Orson, come in Orson
I don’t normally post about celebrities when they die. I try to limit it to ones who had a big impact on me. For example, Ray Bradbury. But I just heard Robin Williams died and I can’t let that pass without some comment. Robin Williams taught me a lot. He taught me that image and reality are often different – sometimes even completely at odds. I grew up watching Mork & Mindy. Mr. Williams seemed like a squeaky clean family friendly comic. And then I saw his stand-up on cable. Well, let’s just...

Being There: A Commentary on Extreme Horror
Originally posted on horroraddicts.net:
I am all over the horror writing scene as a writer, an editor, opinion-giver, and more. I watch trends and try to predict them, but at no time has there ever been so many variables. Some may feel we are zombie/vamp swamped, but while those are still favorite topics, there are so many more sub-genres than ever before. It reminds me of the 60s-70s influx of new horror.
Thereissome badly written material, I agree, but there is just as much badly written hor...

Teresa Hawk on Her Writing Process
Next up on the Writing Process Blog tour is Teresa Hawk!
I’ve read two of her Amazon eBook shorts Karnage Kandy: An Erotic Zombie Short and Meat: A Short Story. I was impressed with both of them. My guess is that if you like my writing you will almost certainly like Karnage Kandy and you’ll probably like Meat, too.
Teresa Hawk lives in a “classified” location somewhere in the Nevada desert where she weaves an endless parade of colorful characters into macabre tales that keep readers up all nigh...
The Man Who Drew the Picture

Deep in the heart of Los Angeles,
there was a man who wore a worn grey hat,
and a green ripped up jacket
the grey beard on his face covered the highway blues
his eyes were red, bloodshot, torn.
He looked at me with a genuine, crooked smile and said,
“You are beautiful, may I draw you?”
as he pulled out his sole possession:
the paper and pen.
When the portrait was finished, my first thought was,
“Man, that is a beautiful picture.”
I said to the artist, “...

#mywritingprocess Blog Tour
I want to make a brief apology for doing another Writing Tour. I know you only have to scroll down a little to see my last one. But I figure it sometimes helps me understand my own writing to think these things through again.
Before I begin, I want to thank the beautiful and talented Jenna Fox for inviting me to join her tour. I’ll post her info at the bottom of the post. Please check out her stuff. Helping her also helps me and the whole indie author community.
1) What am I working on?
I’m work...
