For all those who were wondering about which authors will be at which signings (and who you miss when avoiding me, of course) the AussieCon program grid is up here: http://www.aussiecon4.org.au/index.php?page=26

And in other news, the ABC interview went beautifully this morning. I always wondered what would happen if Kaaron Warren (or any other horror witer) was on 666 - now I know! In fact, I was there.

PS I don't think I'm well today. If I'm not well tomorrow I shall see the doctor, perh...

AussieCon - avoiding Gillian

I always try to give people a guide on how to avoid me at major events. AussieCon is no exception. As always, I apologise for the really cool people and topics you'll miss by avoiding me. You might want to check the final program at AussieCon for last minute adjustments: you wouldn't want to run into me by thinking I was in one room when I was actually in next door.

My vote today was a lot of fun.

First, Kaaron Warren picked me up from the library. She wasn't happy at the dalek that was preaching solid environmental values. It was not quite right. Anyhow, now we know for certain that daleks with Australian accents say "Sustainability" instead of "Exterminate." Everyone was posing with daleks. Hugging them. Looking for all the world like dalek-human wedding parties. Honestly, libraries aren't what they used to be...

Two-thirds of my class was AWOL. ...

Election cake

Just when you thought it was safe...

Because I did the election cake thing so very completely last election, this election Melbourne writer Narrelle Harris is blogging it. She has written a very funny commentary on a cake recipe I gave her: http://narrellemharris.wordpress.com/2010/08/20/wheres-the-pound-of-flesh/

And there's just time to get that cake in the oven, before we all go vote, tomorrow.

What can one do in Canberra on the Sunday morning after the election?

One can listen to Kaaron Warren and myself, talking about Baggage and possibly other things. Local ABC radio at around 10 am. It should be possible to listen through a computer, if you're a fan of Kaaron's and not local to Canberra.

I did a bit of a doubletake halfway through the conversation where this was being sorted. "I just realised," I explained to Kate, the person in question, "How surreal it is to be talking to som...

I completely forgot the Very Important Moment that prompted the recent menu change for the Baggage launch. We have copies!!! Mostly in Culcairn, but copies. The paer variety. And Andrew, the cover looks lovely. Understated and elegant and just beautiful.

Sharyn Lilley and my mother have colluded and the sandwiches at the Baggage launch will be kosher vegetarian. This is in keeping with the theme. It also means I get to explain (for those to whom this means something) that the sambos will be mizrachi kosher, not glatt kosher. C.W.A. food, kosher sandwiches - we take this book very seriously!

Australian and NZ Speculative Fiction Blog Carnival - August 2010

Welcome to the slightly-late Australian Speculative Fiction Blog Carnival. It was going to be the AussieCon edition, but no-one's writing about AussieCon, even though we all think about it and arepreparing for it. Very odd.

This month I decided to open the doors to NZ writing as well as Australian. It's just as well I did for, as Simon Petrie kindly pointed out, NZ writers now have their own organisation: http://www.specficnz.org/ It would be a great pity if this important moment went unremark...

Carnival

I'll be putting up the Australian Spec Fic carnival tomorrow (later today, technically, but after I've slept). I was going to do it today, but life intervened. This gives people a chance to suggest links for it.

Since no-one actually submitted any this month except Nyssa, if you want someone to read the brilliant post you wrote or read three weeks ago, I do suggest you let me know about it! You have twelve hours... and this is the last carnival before AussieCon.

Edited to add: Because this w...
