Novelty – Visual novel maker
Ahh, the things I would do if I had the time.
Especially with Daz Studio still being free, it could be a lot of fun to make a visual novel. Not that I’d expect to make money, or that anyone would play it, but I think it would be a fun and challenging exercise.
I discovered this program today- Novelty.
Novelty is a free game maker tailored for making visual novels. Contrary to most other visual novel makers, Novelty is designed for people without any experience in scripting or programming.

Silent Shadow of the Bat-Man – Retro 1920s Dark Knight
A Batman fan-film done in the style of old 1920′s silent horror films. I especially like the rogues gallery, which I think will give me nightmares for some time. The producer has clearly done his homework, as this is a truely loving recreation of what films of period were like, down to small details.
There are five parts in all, the first two are presented here:

The Chopine
One of those odd bits of history that one comes across and finds interesting enough to note is the Chopine. I can just imagine what a scene in this period would have looked like with all these fashionable stilt-women wandering the marketplace.
“A chopine is a type of women’s platform shoe that was popular in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. Chopines were originally used as a patten, clog, or overshoe to protect the shoes and dress from mud and street soil.
Chopines were popularly worn in Veni...

Batman, Ace of…What Exactly?
So, yesterday before the Avengers I saw an extended preview for Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, and I have to say I found the whole thing underwhelming. I just have no interest in seeing the film, and thinking about it and discussing it with my friends I think I understand why.
Now, it could be that I’ve simply seen too much Batman. In my lifetime he’s had about 5 animated TV series based around him solely, plus been part of 4-5 others. There have also been 7 movies made, not counting this upco...

Review: The Avengers
Just got back from seeing The Avengers (or Avengers Assemble, to those outside of North America), and I think my take on the film is as follows:
After the Blu-Ray DVD version is released, some 15 year old kid using Apple iMovie is going to use it to produce an amazingly cool 80 minute long Avengers movie that’s going to blow everyone away. Until that day, we’re stuck with is a lumbering 142 minute long workprint (rough draft) of a film that seems to be more about ego (giving all the actors equ...

Smashwords Releases eBook Sales Data!
As someone who publishes on Smashwords, I got an update today about their company blog, which has made public a powerpoint the owner recently gave on ebook sales.
http://blog.smashwords.com/2012/04/can-ebook-data-reveal-new-viral.html
Ignoring the advertising speak, it’s some really interesting stuff. Apparently longer ebooks (100k+ words) sell better (unless you’re selling Romance or Erotica) and $2.99 to $5.99 is the optimal price point. If you’re thinking of Indie publishing, I highly recomm...
