sherbeeee:

my entry for new leaf’s fanart contest for their panel in la on wednesday. the prompt was to incorporate elements from each book/show there (legend of korra, the grisha trilogy, walking dead, and legend/prodigy), so i just drew alina starkov, korra, and june iparis fighting zombies because WHY NOT

the winner’s chosen by how many notes the work gets and even though i’m not gonna be at the panel i just still want them to notice me ok (especially mike because i want him to see this and i just really really wanna work at nick as a storyboard artist for korra pleeeeease)

holy badassery.

Hey Leigh! So I was scrolling through the LeakyCon schedule and was that your name I saw?!

It’s true!

June 27th through 30th I will be at Leakycon in Portland with some very fancy peeps (and some of my favorite fancy authors). I’ve gotten to see the panel and activity lineup and this is going to be SOOOOO MUCH FUN.

(And I’ll have some new swag on hand. I can’t seem to stop myself.)

(And if you happen to want to rock some Tsarpunk cosplay, I will have special gifts for yoooouuuuuuuu…)

Are you allowed to say which actor/model you think looks most like how you imagined Alina, Mal, Ivan, Zoya, Genya, Vasily, Sturmhond, and the Darling? If you can, WHO? WE'RE DYING TO KNOW. By the way, thank you for breaking our hearts and leaving us hang

Awwww, I luff you too

It’s very rare that I have an actor in mind for any of my characters, and even if I did, I really prefer to see what’s in the readers’ heads. That’s part of why I’m always a little iffy on book trailers.

I will say that occasionally a fancast or a piece of fanart will come up in the tag and I’ll be like BLAM! THAT’S HIM! (or whatever the case may be). (And I’ll admit, sometimes fancasts show up and all I can think is nonononono. But I kind of enjoy those too, because I’m still getting to see what the reader sees. Let me look into your braaaaaaiiiiiins.)

Robin LaFevers said (and I’m paraphrasing badly here) that authors really only write half the book. The rest is whitespace that the readers fill in. I like that and I don’t want to interfere with it.

(I know if the movie gets made, all bets are off, but right now, we get the characters to ourselves ;)

Not sure if you know this, but your wonderful book has it's own Wikipedia page. As I was browsing through it, it said Alina Starkov is a 15 year old teenager. Now I'm not one to believe in a Wikipedia page, but I don't find her being a 15 year old plausibl

Oh lawd. I haven’t looked at the wikipedia page. Dare I?

Alina and Mal are 17 at the start of the action in Shadow and Bone. Their exact ages are unknown since they’re both orphans and refugees. (At Keramzin, every child without a known birthday is given the Duke’s birthday.) And yes, Sturmhond is in his early 20s.

A Legend/Prodigy/Shadow and Bone/Siege and Storm mashup by the brilliant, mutlitalented and totally delightful Marie Lu. Just… the cuteness.

WEDNESAY NIGHT at Barnes & Noble at the Grove in Los Angeles, Marie and I will be talking fandom, storytelling, and who knows what else with Mike DiMartino (A:TLA, Legend of Korra) and Seth Hoffman (The Walking Dead). Should be a very fun, very different kind of panel. Come on out!

And don’t forget, there’s a fanart contest on!

WIP for the Power of Fandom contest! Clockwise from left: June (Prodigy series), Alina (Grisha trilogy), Korra (Legend of Korra), and Michonne (Walking Dead), all as fancy magical lady knights!

I don’t usually participate in contests because I’m just so busy with other things, but for whatever reason, the task of putting together 4 characters from 4 different IPs into one cohesive image was a challenge I was in the mood for. Cue Sailor Moon bells!

I know I should wait to reblog the finished work, but WHAT. THE. WHAT. Look at this!!! (And Alina’s armor!!! It’s like there’s a bonus extra fandom in there. Alina Baratheon? Awwww yeah.)
