I feel weird reblogging one of my own quotes, but this is from WoD, and I always get excited when I see the short stories getting a shout

It was another word for orphan.
this is one of the few real Russian words that appears in S&B. It means, “to refuse or deny." and I dig this graphic. oh jes.
sumayyah daud online: Some thoughts on GRRM's most recent comments on Dorne, and an apology
Hi everyone,
Over on livejournal under my fandom handle I ended up asking George RR Martin some questions about the Oberyn Martell casting and diversity in Game of Thrones. I know it’s gotten some attention on WinterisComing.net and Reddit and here on Tumblr.
In my…
I’m reblogging this because it’s a really important read. I say this as someone who will continue to watch the show and read the series. I say this as an author of fantasy who doesn’t always get it right when it comes to diversity or feminism or any of the other things I value. You can love something and still be critical of it, and this is a moment that requires criticism.

Are your signings at SDCC gonna be "ticketed" signings or your standard stand in line deal? I'm super excited to meet you BTW.
Excited to meet you too!
Just your standard stand in line deal. And I suspect, very low key. When it comes to Comic Con, authors like me are the wee minnows in a VERY BIG VERY LOUD pond ;)
Come and visit and make sure you tell me your blog name

A lot has been written about Barbara Gordon and what she did for the representation of people with disabilities in comics. So I won’t bore you with all my views on the matter.
Suffice to say Barbara Gordon became, in almost 30 years of comic history, a shining example of how there are many ways to fight for what is right, not just in a uniform. And how courage is not jumping in front of a bullet - it’s picking yourself up after the bullet hits its mark.
She is also probably the strongest, most consistent and valued female character to ever appear in comics. But that’s just my opinion.
well, this gave me the snifflies.

Hey Leigh! First, how are you today? And second, I know you never do makeup posts anymore, but I have a bad birthmark (a port wine stain) on my leg, and I've never worn shorts in my entire nearly 16 year life. Any concealer suggestions?
Okay, let’s start with the practical…
1. First thing that comes to mind is Dermablend. It will take some practice to make it look natural, but it was designed to cover birthmarks, tattoos, etc. That said, it will also transfer. The only thing that holds up to sweat and heat and won’t transfer is makeup with an alcohol base. That would be something you airbrush on. It can be done, but it’s expensive and a bit of a hassle. Also, you may not be thrilled with the finish—very dry.
2. I had a friend with a port wine stain on her face and she had laser treatment for it. Expensive, but she was very happy with the results.
Now, I started with the practical because it’s not my job to talk you out of what might make you feel more confident in your skin. That said, I want to encourage you to WEAR THE SHORTS. I know it’s hard not to feel like everyone is looking and judging, but maybe keep this in mind:
Some chubby girl is thinking, “I’d trade these thighs for a birthmark in a second, then I’d totally wear shorts."
Some skinny girl is thinking, “I’d trade these bony knees for a little junk in the trunk in a second, then I’d totally wear shorts."
Some older woman is thinking, “I’d trade these stretch marks for bony knees in a second, then I’d totally wear shorts."
We carry this crap, this fear with us all of the time and it’s dreadful, because we should all WEAR THE SHORTS. Yes, there’s a chance that someone will look at you and think something negative or even ask some ridiculous question. But most people will glance at you and that will be the end of it, because everyone is wrapped up in their own nonsense and insecurities. It feels like everyone is looking but it’s just not true.
WEAR THE SHORTS.
