Multi-Author Charity Auction! Great cause, great prizes for readers AND writers

Multi-Author Charity Auction! Great cause, great prizes for readers AND writers:

SO MANY BOOKS AND PRIZES.

READERS: Huge book package up for bid. I’ve offered signed first editions of Shadow and Bone and Siege and Storm. (I’ll even personalize them if you like.)

and…

ASPIRING AUTHORS: You can bid on manuscript critiques from some a bunch of different authors. I’m giving away a 30 page critique so get in there and we can discuss your genius at length.

All proceeds will be going to Alaqua Animal Refuge. Over the weekend, they rescued 97 dogs and 6 horses, and they are in desperate need of donations to help cover the care of their new residents. This refuge is a NO KILL SHELTER so they’ll be caring for these animals in the long run.

I like to sit in the BACK ROW, so if one of you could GET THERE FIRST AND STRETCH OUT over some seats, that would be great.

Quick question Will there be book signing at the Decatur book fest? All I see are the panels that you will be doing which I'll be there for the first one.

I believe I’ll be signing after both panels! Come and say hello anon. I will recognize you by your sunglasses and your grayish pallor.

Would you like to live in the Grisha World? If not, where would you like to go? Wizarding world? Shadowhunter world? GoT world? Hunger Games world? etc.

Good gravy, no. I WANT TO LIVE. I might consider living in Kerch. I could hang out at the university.

As much as I love Westeros and the New York of TMI, I’d most like to live in the world of Harry Potter. DWJ’s Ingary is a very close second.

How did you come up with the name The Shadow Fold? And how do you go about picking names for the cities in your world, are they inspired by the names of actual places?

Some names like “Tsibeya” are very clearly meant to evoke real places. Others like “Poliznaya” are meant to evoke meaning through a familiar root (polis/city, police), while others like “Chernast” contain part of a Russian word (chernyy-black) that may not be familiar to English-speaking readers, but with which they may still have strong associations (Chernobyl). There are some place names that I create wholecloth for their sound—and occasionally I’ll throw in one with a shout out to a friend.

The Shadow Fold was one of the first elements of the world to slide into place (it had a name before Ravka did), but I have no idea where that name came from. I just remember lying in bed and thinking, “Well, what am I gonna call this thing?” Sometimes the words just arrive and they’re the right fit. Other times, it’s like Goldilocks: too hot, too cold, too hard, too soft. Except in this version, there are three thousand bears and they’re all very angry.

Hello! I'm a huge fan :) I have some questions for you :) 1. What fandom are you in? (Grisha, obviously, but what about others?) 2. Tell us your favorite ships 3. Darkling, Malina or Nikalina?

Hello and thank you for being a lovely reader.

1. I am most firmly in the GoT (ASoIaF) and LoK/A:tLA fandoms. But I lurk around the edges of the Elementary, Sherlock, HP, and Percy Jackson fandoms. If there were a Chopped fandom, I would be in it. And if you blog something about North and South or Richard Armitage, there’s a good chance I’ll reblog it.

2. Jamie/Brienne, Arya/Gendry (I know, I know, creepy age difference); Zutara, Amorra, Makorra, and anything involving Tahno. To be clear: I like my non-canon ships to remain non-canon AND I have no great desire to see Jamie and Brienne make out. I just love them.

3. All ships are welcome in this harbor ;)

Hello! I've found a funny thing: stag=earth, firebird=fire, ice dragon=water. What about air?

Interesting. If you wanted to look at it this way, I think you could see air as breath, the animating element.
