Some Alina Starkov sketches- I was thinking beginning of Shadow and Bone.

She’s perfect— the coat, her stubborn, her sweet, her snark. Thank you, Simini :D

I read the whole Grisha Trilogy by  Leigh Bardugo while on vacation these past few weeks. So good. I want to draw so many things! Also I need to do some black & white work/test, and thought he’d be interesting to start with, though rather darker than my normal…

and I know their eyes don’t actually glow i took a liberty

Omg. VIVA SIMINI!!

Alina Starkov from the Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo.   The outfit is may be a bit over the top - but it was really fun to draw!

There is no “over the top” in Ravka. This is perfection.

What Happened in Vegas OR Wot's All This About a Hospital Stay?

Sorry I’ve been away for a while. The last month has been pretty crazy.

I turned in a new book,

went on tour,

hit the NYT Best Sellers list (aw yeah),

and then ended up in the hospital for a week. Plot twist!

I thought I had a bad stomachache, got on a plane to Las Vegas to attend ALA, and quickly realized something else was wrong. Turns out I had a teeny, tiny hole in my intestinal wall. Also turns out that’s a potentially deadly thing. So, though it sucked to spend a week hooked up to an iv in a Vegas hospital room, the whole “still alive” thing eases the sting. I was also lucky enough to have my editor, Noa Wheeler, with me. She is an angel in teal sandals. Now I’m back home, mending nicely, getting ready to revise The Dregs, and resting up before Comic Con at the end of July. That’s right: you can’t keep a good nerd down.

Clockwise from top: My grody hospital room, feeling chipper on pain meds, fleurs!, decidedly less chipper when they put me on oxygen, adorable get well poster signed by peeps at ALA.

After the hospital, I spent two days in a hotel room. Quite a view, though not particularly restful. Then my mom and I drove home through a thunder shower and a dust storm. It was actually kind of perfect. After a week inside, I needed mountains and rain, not the airport.

Clockwise from top left: “Paris” by night, “Paris” by day, the road home,  in my own bed and happy, hotel pool I never swam in.

So, in short, I have a LOT to be grateful for and I’ll be around tumblr and twitter a bit more now. Huge thanks to the nurses at Sunrise hospital, to everyone who sent well wishes, and to Noa who has now seen me vomit in a basin.

Today is the release day of Ruin and Rising, the last book in Leighs amazing Grisha Trilogy.
So, thought I should have learned all day for my exame tomorrow, I still had to do some fanart to celebrate. :3

The Grisha Trilogy are some of my favorite books (if not my absolute favorite books), they are just so magical and beautiful that my heart is so full of love for them every time I pick up the books. I wish I could have drawn some thing bigger for the release (I will do this after I´ve finished my exames tomorrow).

Thank you for sharing this

Can't wait to meet you at ALA Con! You've probably been getting this a lot, but will there be copies of Ruin and Rising available for purchase at the signing? Thanks! :)

Yes! I’ll be doing signings at Barnes & Noble (with the Fierce Reads crew) and at ALA. Copies will be available for purchase at both—though I don’t know if we’ll have the Collector’s Edition at ALA? Ees possible.

Details here and looking forward to meeting you! xoxo
