New Book On the Way

Hello, my friends. How has your summer gone? I can’t believe it’s almost over. I’ve been pretty busy: we bought a condo here in Calgary, I started a new business (ClassesForWriters.com), I closed another business (Book Market Maven), and I lost 30 pounds that I badly needed to lose. Oh yeah, and I wrote another book!

virtue arizona 40560656_sThe Doctor’s Daughter (working title) will be published by Blushing Books later this year. The goal is to make it a 4-5 book series. The series will be a kind of sexy, spanking, family saga, pretty much like the Journey series. But this is historical and somewhat western, set in the fictional town of Virtue, Arizona Territory, at the turn of the 19th to 20th century. The family featured in the books is the Bucknell family, made up of 5 young women, their father, and their eccentric grandmother.

I’m working on Book 2 now. Book 1 might be out as soon as October, but I’ll have to keep you posted on that.

Thank you for following along with my writing peregrinations. I hope you’ll be as excited for the “Virtue, Arizona Series” as I am.

Trish

It may be the only hope for those depending on him and his robots to save them. Yet, even as frantic preparations for the unprecedented deep-space rescue mission are set in motion, it could all be threatened by sabotage.

Anastasia Steed is an intrepid young mission designer. She steps forward with an idea that can improve the odds of the mission. Neither she nor Ten expect the assistance they receive from a very unusual pet. A pet that will bring together two alienated human beings who didn’t realize they needed each other. Can Ten and Anastasia discover who is behind the sabotage, save the mission, and discover what is evolving between them? With a little bit of unusual help, anything is possible.

SPACE RANGER

By Lea Kirk

Graig Roble is a Senior Commander with the Guardian Fleet security. His specialty as a weapons specialist and combat master is his world, what he was born to do – or so he thought until he finds his resolve and focus inexplicably wavering. His new position aboard the Atlantis can’t even save him; if anything, it has left him questioning his own motives. He never thought that could happen until he met Simone Campbell.

Simone’s focus is on her home world – Earth. She thought her life was full with her research as a botanist. After all, she always believed that helping the people of her world become self-sufficient should take all of her concentration – except it doesn’t. There is one man that keeps pulling her attention, and her heart, away from her job.

Graig’s gift of a puppy to keep her company does more than that, it keeps him in her dreams. How can such a simple gift bring her comfort and make her long for more? Graig and Simone are about to find out that sometimes love can blossom from the smallest, furriest ties.

ESCAPE RUN

By Carysa Locke

Teegan’s job as a hunter is to track down the Talented, those driven insane by their gifts. She and Ember, her psychically gifted fox, have tracked dozens of people for Cole, the man who works to rehabilitate and recover these troubled souls. When one of Cole’s most dangerous patients escapes, Teegan and Ember are on a hunt that could prove fatal if she doesn’t keep her focus on her mission. Unfortunately, Cole is proving one distraction that might make this her last hunt if she can’t do that.

Can Teegan keep her heart and mind in the game long enough to save an entire planet’s population, or will her distraction lead to heartache – and possibly death for everyone?

You’ll probably think, “I knew it would happen!”

wood mouse

The best-laid schemes o’ mice an’ men

Gang aft agley…

[Transl.] The best laid schemes of mice and men

Go often askew…

Robert Burns, “To a Mouse.”

My plan, as of June 1 this year, was to teach and put writing aside for the foreseeable future. But, as Robert Burns said (to paraphrase) plans don’t mean much in the real world.

Recently, in discussions with one of my publishers — in this case, Blushing Books — it came to pass that they miss me. Aw. Made me feel good. I needed to be missed. They asked me to write for them again. I thought about it. I wondered if I had another erotic spanking romance in me. I told them I’d get back to them shortly.

I went through my files and my outlines of book ideas. I keep all my book ideas, just in case. Good thing I did! One of my outlines was exactly the kind of book Blushing was looking for from me.  I told them I’d do it, we all hugged (virtually) and off I went.

Now, I’m half way through the first draft. Thought you’d like to know that I’m working on something you’ll like. Something juicy and historical, a bit like The Blacksmith’s Bride and a bit like the Journey Family series, but not part of a box set. My goal is to make this the first book in a four book series. I need to get finished with book one first.

Blushing Books gave me a deadline, and if I meet it, the book will be published in October.

I hope you’ll look forward to it as much as I do.

I’ll give you some hints and details along the way. Stick with me; I’m baaaack!

Trish

As Promised — Decision Made

Trish Venetian 2015Hello, everyone. Thank you for continuing to buy my books and come to my site for information and to read the free short stories here. I promised I’d get back to you after my six month sabbatical, so I’m doing so today.

I’m not the sort of person who can sit idle and vegetate for long periods of time, so during the six month away period, I did a number of things.

I knitted and crocheted;

I restarted my embroidery hobby;

I outlined a new story, which, if ever published, will be under a pen name;

I read books (mostly non-fiction);

I sat in on many industry-related webinars and asked questions;

I started a new website for authors and editors, working with two other people, and wrote articles about what I’ve learned over the years plus current industry trends (it’s called BookMarketMaven.com);Maven Icon White Bknd

I began packaging some re-releases of older adult fairy tale-style books, and hope to offer them on the market as a two-story volume in the near future;

classes for writers logo-medand, I started a new business, offering online classes for writers and editors (it’s called ClassesForWriters.com).

So, as you can see, in many respects, I’m working just as hard as I did while writing fiction books, but now my focus is on non-fiction. I was a technical writer before my fiction career took off (and, in the beginning, during), so I have a lot of know-how to fall back on.

With all of this in mind, and mostly owing to Classes for Writers, I’m going to continue my move away from fiction for the time-being. I might change my mind and write the story that I outlined while on sabbatical (I couldn’t resist as the story was firmly in my head), but I don’t have a plan to do so right now.

If you miss me — maybe a few of you do — write to me. My email address is on the “Contact Info” page here on the site.

I will continue to keep you informed of my peregrinations, and I hope you’ll keep returning to Patricia Green Books and telling your friends about my work, both fiction and non-fiction. Because I can’t stop being productive with words, I’ll keep providing new material in the form of reporting industry trends, marketing tips, and fiction advice on Book Market Maven, and will offer my experience and insights to the classes at Classes for Writers. You and your friends are more than welcome to come see what’s on offer at these sites. If you’re a writer or editor, I have no doubt they will prove helpful to you.

I truly appreciate your patronage.

Thank you!

Trish

Sabbatical and Next Steps

break 20465466_sHello and thank you for reading. Many of you have been loyal readers over time, and for that I’m grateful. Thank you! To those of you who are new, or visiting for the first time, welcome.

Over the last five years of writing fiction full time (I was a part-timer before that, as I also worked as a technical writer for about fifteen years), I’ve learned a great deal about the writing and publishing world. I’m hoping to impart some of that knowledge to other authors, whether newbies or those with more experience, by turning my attention to a new site with a new mission: Book Market Maven. Over there, the mission is to bring new resources to light, offer solutions to nagging writing problems, and help authors and interested readers keep abreast on what’s going on in the publishing world.

While I take a sabbatical from writing fiction, I hope you’ll join me over there. Whether you’re a writer or a reader, you’ll find something to interest you. In the meantime, if fiction is your interest, please check the menus above for all kinds of romance fiction, from sweet to hardcore BDSM, from historical to contemporary to science fiction, from domestic discipline to detective stories. There are many free short stories to introduce you to my style and interests. Please take advantage of these offerings.

This blog at Patricia Green Books will be somewhat dormant for the next few months as I have no new releases, however, the site will remain open in perpetuity so that you have access to free short stories and information about my more than thirty published books. When I return from sabbatical, I’ll have more new offerings here.

And now, I’m moving over to Book Market Maven. Look for a preview announcement for the new site on Monday, Feb. 1.

Thank you so much for joining me.

Mentoring Program to Begin

Hi, everyone.

I’m going to be teaching a writing class through Savvy Authors’ mentoring program, January 25 through April 10, 2016. The scope of the “lessons” is basically soup to nuts, and includes the following modules:

mentor 24985940_sLesson 1 – Setting Goals

Lesson 2 – Learning the Tropes

Lesson 3 – Character Profiles

Lesson 4 – Point of View

Lesson 5 – Plotting

Lesson 6 – Great Openings

Lesson 7 – Writing the First Draft: Tips & Tricks

Lesson 8 – Word Choice and Sentence Construction

Lesson 9 – The First Round of Editing

Week 10 – 2nd/Final Round of Self-Editing

Lesson 11 – The Synopsis & The Pitch

Week 12 – Media Kits

With additional discussions on:

Writing “To the Market” vs. Literary Fiction

Parsing Amazon-speak

Series

Finding a New Publisher or Agent

We can talk about anything you need to know and don’t have to stick to this lesson plan exclusively. The idea is to give you personalized attention to solve your writing problems.

If you’re a reader who wants to become a writer, this is a good place to start. If you’re a reader who knows a writer who’s struggling, send her/him my way. Or if you’re a writer who needs a little TLC, come on over and tell me your woes.

This is not a free class. It has a significant price tag, but how many twelve-week writing classes do you know of with personalized attention, a comprehensive syllabus, and only three students? This isn’t like a “boot camp” either. The lessons are fluid and the process is more laid back. There’s homework, but it’s not onerous at all; no one is going to ask you to draft a whole book during the course, but if you want to, nothing will impede you.

Here’s where you sign up: Savvy Authors – Patricia Green Mentoring.

There are only three spots available, and the class starts on Monday, so sign up soon or miss your opportunity. I don’t teach this class every quarter, and I don’t have a plan for another one in the near-term.

I hope to help you or your friends soon.

Guest: Kate Deane Shares Dancing with a Dom from a New Box Set

Katherine Deane is a fairly new author, but she’s always busy writing, so her collection of books is growing by leaps and bounds. She puts a lot of heart into her work and it shows. Her new novella, Dancing with a Dom, is part of a box set with 13 other terrific spanking romance and BDSM romance authors. It’s naughty, but romantic. Perfect for a Valentine’s Day treat.

bound spanked and loved set graphic

Kate has a few words to share with you today. Take it away Katherine.

Thanks so much for having me over today, Patricia. I am so excited to be a part of the most amazing box set! There are so many amazing authors in this set.

I’m sharing a bit from my story, Dancing With a Dom.  It’s a 15K novella about a BBW [Big Beautiful Woman] divorced woman, who tries out for a televised dancing competition to get past the pain of her ex-husband’s hurtful comments and cheating.

This one is a little different than my usual stories. I still included the romance and a slightly cheesy ending, but I veered a bit from there, going a little sexier than I usual do.
