Reading for Breadth
I love books and read quite a bit. I’d rather read than eat, but if I didn’t eat I’d starve to death and then wouldn’t be able to read. Not everyone loves reading as much as I do, but I think most people value reading and wish they read more – or, if they already read a lot, wish they read better.
So, how can you improve your reading habits? I’ve found it helpful to read for both breadth

Communion with Christ in the Grace of Sanctification
In his magnificent masterpiece, Communion with the Triune God, John Owen discusses how believers have distinct communion with each member
of the Trinity.
Discussing “Communion with Christ in the Grace of
Sanctification,” Owen shows the difference between people who are convicted of
sin but pursue holiness in their own strength and believers who look to Christ
for holiness:

The Sacred Poetry of Augustus Toplady
Augustus Toplady was an eighteenth century Anglican preacher and poet,
best known for his famous hymn “Rock of Ages.” J. C. Ryle called him a man "strangely compounded, peculiarly constituted, and oddly framed," but also a man of
rare grace and gifts and one who left
his mark very deeply on his own generation. For soundness
in the faith, singleness of eye, and devotedness of life, he

The Enduring Legacy of C. S. Lewis
When President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, November 22 1963 was engraved in the annals of history. But while the world reeled in shock and grief, another great figure of the twentieth century peacefully died in his bedroom. C. S. Lewis, beloved author of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe finally passed from the Shadowlands into the Solid World of Heaven.

How Does a Pastor Feed His Flock a Balanced Diet in Preaching?
Shepherds feed sheep. And the main way we feed sheep is by teaching and preaching the word of God. This means that the planning and delivery of sermons is one of our highest priorities. But it’s easy for preachers to fall into unbalanced patterns that fail to feed the flock with the full scope of God’s revealed word.
We do this when we’re always preaching on our favorite theological themes

What's the Christian Life All About? "Not I, But Christ"
Over the past several years the church seems to have experienced some degree of gospel renewal. We now have conferences like The Gospel Coalition and Together for the Gospel, a fresh emphasis on preaching the gospel from all of Scripture, and lots and lots of books with the word “gospel” somewhere in the title. I think this is a good thing and consider myself largely in step with this

No One Will Pray for My Soul: 'Gravity' Reviewed
Whether realistic or fantastic, movies about space capture my interest. From Stanley Kubrick's ethereal 2001: A Space Odyssey, to the space opera adventures of George Lucas's original Star Wars trilogy, to Ron Howard's docudrama Apollo 13, there are few films set in space in which I couldn't find some redeeming value. But Alfonso Cuarón's new film, Gravity, blazes new territory.
