JENOWRIMO Update

Dear readers,

It is with some regret to report that after my last updated on my JENOWRIMO progress (yes, the title needs a lot of work haha), I’ve failed to write any more chapters, let alone words, on my current work in progress. Unfortunately, my attention had to be poured into getting another story in by the end of the month for my work, in which I severely underestimated how long it would take me to complete.

The good news is that I did get that project in, and now have to wait a few weeks for feedback before tackling it again. This means another two to four weeks of interruption coming up, but I’m hoping it will be worth it in the end.

In other good news, yesterday I decided to pick back up where I left off with the intention of continuing JENOWRIMO this month instead. I most likely won’t be writing a chapter a day, but I do hope to have this current draft of The Kitsune’s Lullaby (novel version—you can read a few chapters for free on the Episode Interactive app) finished by the end of January. With December being a very busy period, not least because of Christmas, I’m anticipating a few more interruptions to this goal.

Original Episode Interactive cover for ‘The Kitsune’s Lullaby.’ Copyright Jennifer E. Glynn 2022

If you follow me on social media, you may have noticed I’ve also been posting a few images of character art from my novels, namely The Beaumont Egalitarian Society and Call Me Rumpel (Good news! I have two copies of both available for sale if you’re looking for a Christmas present—get in quick!). I’ll be sharing them here, but in what will most likely save me a lot of time later, I’ve already got the images completed for The Kitsune’s Lullaby. In the above image, you have an idea of how I picture the main characters Eislyn Foxx (left), Tavo Ortiz (right), and Kit (faded middle in their true form). I hope you’ll be able to meet them sooner rather than later.

I hope that anyone who did get a chance to participate in their own writing challenges had a lot more success than I did. More so, I hope you had a lot of fun!

With best wishes that your weekend is full of happiness and adventures,

Jennifer xx

Cover Update

It’s been a busy week as usual, this time with a focus on my Episode commissioned stories and catching up on JENOWRIMO (which, you may have guessed, I’ve already dropped the ball at.)

After receiving my copies of Call Me Rumpel, I’ve decided I’m still not happy with the quality of the covers, namely the paper back and hardcover. The leaves are far too dark, almost black in colour. Whilst it certainly isn’t a life or death matter, and hasn’t been an issue for anyone else, I’m a little picky. Therefore, I’ve updated the covers for both so that (hopefully) the leaves are vibrant enough.

The publishers have approved these changes, so I look forward to seeing the new versions come January.

Thank you to everyone who has already purchased a copy! You have made my day. I’d love to know who you think the killer is as you read.

Wishing you all a happy rest of the week,

Jennifer x

Release Day!

I’m a little late to the party (it’s been one hell of a week!) but I’m happy that the release day for Call Me Rumpel is finally here! Thank you to those who have already purchased a copy—you’ve made this author’s day!

Thank you, too, to everyone who has made this book possible, including my amazing betas Annabelle, Melinda, Hannah, Azriel, and S. E. Green, my editor Daniel, my ARC team, and everyone who has shared or in other ways supported this book.

If you’re still waiting to get your hands on a copy—whether that is the ebook, paper back, or hardcover—orders are now open on Amazon* and Kobo. As the month progresses, copies will be available for purchase in other market places.

Unfortunately, due to the holidays coming up and the Australian market, I will not be able to obtain physical copies for sale until late January/ February. This also includes copies of The Beaumont Egalitarian Society. If you would like a signed copy of either, please let me know ASAP and I will put one aside for you when the new orders do arrive.

Whilst the release of this book comes at a perilous time in the world, I do hope that it will provide readers with a small distraction from reality, even if just for a little while. On that note, if any readers need support, please do not hesitate to reach out.

With much love and still holding onto hope,

Jennifer x

*Please note, whilst this author is using the KDP platform for her latest release, it is with regret. Currently, Amazon is in hot water for allowing the sale of slogan t-shirts sporting that vile SA threat you may have heard this week, spouted by misogynistic “men.” This author does not tolerate the use of that phrase, even as a “joke” and will report ANYONE who threatens any person with it. I hope that Amazon puts people (women!) over profit and issues a public apology for allowing merchandise to be sold on their platform with it—taking down listings is not enough. Remember the lesson from this tale: screenshots are forever.

JENOWRIMO

It’s already November and a little over a month until Christmas. Even though it’s the penultimate month, that doesn’t mean it’s any less busy than the rest of the year. For Americans (and indeed the rest of the world), it also means holding our breath in the hopes Kamala Harris wins her rightful place as President of the United States. (If you haven’t already voted, make sure you do! Every single vote counts).

For me personally, November not only marks the official release of Call Me Rumpel (pre-order the ebook now to automatically download on November 10), but working on Episode Interactive commissioned stories and the continuation of yet another YA novel.

Traditionally, November is a month many authors participate in NANOWRIMO. However, due to the conduct of certain organisers in the past, and it’s support of generative AI in writing, I will not be participating in it this year or in the near future. Instead, I’m dedicating this month to *drumroll please*… JENOWRIMO.

PRE-ORDER CALL ME RUMPEL

What is JENOWRIMO?

The principle is basically the same, simply on an individual level. Each day, I’ve set a target goal on my current work in progress to one chapter (or at the very least, half a chapter). In theory, by the time the month is up, I’ll have the draft manuscript of my latest novel completed (or very close to it), ready to proofread, edit, and send off to the world of agents and publication houses.

I will be keeping track of my progress here, partly to hold myself accountable, and partly to encourage and motivate any other authors who may wish to take part (you’re more than welcome!).

So far, it’s been a mix of results. November 1st saw a new chapter completed, whilst last night only half or less (approximately 1500 words). Tonight, well… I’m hoping to finish the remainder of that chapter plus a new one…

If all goes to plan, The Kitsune’s Lullaby will be much closer to publication than it is in its current state. Furthermore, it should serve as motivation to complete the manuscripts for The Beaumont Egalitarian Society sequel and for As You Wish.

I hope you’re all enjoying this time of year. Let’s make 2024 a memorable one (for all the right reasons)!

~Jennifer x

Call Me Rumpel – AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER

It’s official! Call Me Rumpel (in e-book format) is now available for pre-order on Amazon. With one quick click, the book will be downloaded to your Kindle or device on November 10 when the YA murder mystery is officially released.

Are you as excited as we are?

Pre-order the ebook here

To those who have already pre-ordered a copy, thank you! Seeing all your love and support for this new tale has warmed my (Jennifer’s) heart.

Signed paperback copies

We’re currently in the process of setting up orders for signed paperback copies.

If you would like to pre-order a signed copy, please don’t hesitate to contact us to arrange one ahead of time.

As per the publisher’s policy, orders for copies to arrive here before the busy Christmas period closed October 16th this year (prior to Call Me Rumpel‘s publication). As such, we are currently unsure if our own signed copies will arrive in time, or if it is better for readers to purchase directly from Amazon. Estimated arrival dates are approximately 2-4 weeks post order (ordered immediately), excluding potential holiday period delays and our own quality checks undertaken.

Nevertheless, we will try our absolute best to get them to you ASAP (hopefully before Christmas Eve for those purchasing as gifts) should you still wish to pre-order through us.

We also offer combined postage, so if you’re looking for a few copies or would like to give another YA mystery a chance, The Beaumont Egalitarian Society, please let us know!

Can You Guess the Killer?

You may have noticed we’ve been very busy these last few months—but all for a good reason, I assure you. These last few weeks particularly have been dedicated to finalising a new novel that’s been in the making since 2022 (and earlier). From cover design and beta reading to last-minute editing and formatting, it’s been a wild journey. However, I am pleased to announce that Call Me Rumpel will be out November 10th.

The book will be available on Amazon and other retailers.

Better yet, you can opt to pre-order the e-book from Amazon for your Kindle and e-readers.

What’s more, ARC readers can sign-up to get a free e-book copy today with no obligation to review or promote. That’s right, no deadlines, no expectations, no catches. Whilst this opportunity has been available through social media, if anyone missed out on the opportunity, I will extend the sign-up form until the 25th October. Simply quote ‘IAMRUMPEL’ in the ‘Is there anything else you’d like me to know?’ section of the form (the last question).

I hope you enjoy my first attempt at a YA murder mystery. Whilst I’m hoping to focus on creating more proactive characters in future novels, as well as increasing my understanding of Gen Z culture (…even this wording makes me feel old lol), it’s a story I am proud to present to the world.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me with this novel and my writing, including my amazing beta readers. Annabelle, Melinda, Hannah, Azriel, and S. E. Green have provided incredible suggestions that have made this story so much better. Without them, it wouldn’t be fit for reading. Thank you, too, to Dan Lyndon for not only being my editor, but for being patient, thorough, and believing in me as a writer.

For anyone wondering where the sequel to The Beaumont Egalitarian Society is, I’m afraid I’ve been a little distracted in getting it finished. I sincerely apologise for the wait, but do promise to have it ready in the next for months. To be completely transparent, however, I will also be working on two other YA novels during the next few months, plus a myriad of other ideas in the coming years. The problem with me is having too many plots and too little time. The good side of this? There’ll be plenty more adventures for you to get lost in!

If you haven’t already, please consider joining my Facebook page for all the latest writing updates.

Until next time,

~Rumpel.

Sorry, I mean, Jennifer.

What’s Call Me Rumpel about?

Once upon a time in a country town in New South Wales, there lived a girl who would do anything to escape.
Queen bee of Kingstown High, seventeen-year-old Mishka Winscott knows all there is to keeping secrets. From hiding her father’s increasing mortgage debt to pretending she doesn’t care that her ex-boyfriend cheated on her, no one knows her life is anything but perfect. They certainly don’t know she’s behind the elusive Call Me Rumpelstiltskin app, where she grants her peers’ wishes for a little fee.
Unfortunately, she’s not the only one who can grant wishes.
After school bully Vincent Wu ruins yet another party, Mishka receives an anonymous request wishing he would die. Thinking it is nothing more than a peer venting over his cruel antics, his failure to turn up to school that week is perceived as welcome news. Finally, she can concentrate on getting into a good university and far away from her crumbling castle without being subjected to his torment.
It’s only when her precious app is hacked that she realises she must find his killer or risk losing more than just her social status.

This Young Adult modern murder mystery novel is inspired by the Brother Grimms’ classic fairy tale, Rumpelstiltskin. Full of twists and turns, readers will be left guessing Rumpel’s true name until the very end…

Happy Anniversary to Becoming an Author!

September 29th marked the first anniversary of not only The Beaumont Egalitarian Society‘s release, but the day I finally achieved my dream and became a published author.

It’s been a wild journey since, from creating websites and logos and building up a small business, to connecting with amazing readers far and wide. I’ve learnt a lot about the publishing industry, from the different levels of editing to increasing my marketing skills.

A fact not many people are aware of is that The Beaumont Egalitarian Society was released a little earlier than originally intended. My father was in hospital during this time, and (albeit self-indulgently on my part), I really wanted him to be able to hold a copy of my book in his hands. Fast forward to today, he is doing much better and will hopefully be able to read more of my books as they’re released.

If you haven’t already, I’d like to invite you to join the new official Facebook page. Here you will find updates on what’s to come, including more information about my newest YA murder mystery release, Call Me Rumpel.

For those awaiting to get their hands on The Beaumont Egalitarian Society, more stock will be in very soon!

I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me on this incredible journey. From those who have purchased and/or read my novel, those who have shared this website or book, and those who have offered words of congratulations and encouragement—thank you. I truly appreciate each and every one of you.

I hope you’re all enjoying this fine October day (it’s very windy here!) and have a fantastic rest of the week.

~Jennifer xx

What is The Beaumont Egalitarian Society about?

After her older sister mysteriously vanishes, budding photographer Aisling O’Connor makes the ultimate sacrifice: she re-enrols in her former elite boarding school. With only one clue to go by—a hastily scrawled note to ‘find the BES’—and more students disappearing, she must swallow her pride and team up with her biggest rival, the arrogant Reiji Youkai, his charming twin Ren, and the members of Beaumont Academy’s notorious secret society.

The Beaumont Egalitarian Society is Jennifer’s debut novel. With intriguing characters, an exploration of Japanese mythology and Australian high school life, and more twists and turns than you can count, this book is sure to be loved by adolescents around the world. Originally written on the Episode Interactive app and now a Webtoon series, this tale has already won several awards, including an Editor’s Pick.

Where can I buy The Beaumont Egalitarian Society?

The Beaumont Egalitarian Society is available worldwide in e-book, paper back, and hardcover copies. Signed paperback copies are available for purchase direct from the author (more stock on the way!)

It’s a Boy!

As you’ve noticed, things have been very busy around here lately. With a deadline coming up, books to write, and covers to design, organising a website has become a luxury. Nonetheless, I’m very pleased to announce that one of the biggest ‘distractions’ (in a good way) has finally arrived!

I’d like to welcome my dear nephew to the world. I know he’s going to be well-loved and, of course, will end up with his own library before he can even read. I cannot wait to share the world of books with him, as well as many more adventures.

Forgive the clothes and hair; I’ve become a little too accustomed working from home.

Thank you to everyone for your continued patience whilst awaiting updates. More updates will come in the next few weeks as life here settles down, including more concrete dates for new book releases.

I hope you enjoy the last week and a bit of August xx

August Update

Busy must be my middle name—you may as well start looking for books written by Jennifer B. Glynn.

[image error]Pexels.com" data-medium-file="https://jennifereglynnauthor.com/wp-c..." data-large-file="https://jennifereglynnauthor.com/wp-c..." tabindex="0" role="button" width="867" height="1300" src="https://jennifereglynnauthor.com/wp-c..." alt="" class="wp-image-1474" style="width:317px;height:auto" />

I’d say I can’t believe it’s August 10th already, but that would be lying given the entire year has flown by. The last month has led up to a really important moment in our family, but I’ll share that news soon.

Very, very soon.

Right now, I thought it would be helpful to highlight some of the projects I’m currently working, and hence why I may not be as active on this site as usual. Apart from working on two Episode commissioned stories, I’m working on several of my novels. Writing them at the same time is probably one of the worst ideas I’ve had yet, but I’m determined to get them published sooner rather than later.

For those curious, the novels I’m hoping to release within the next eighteen months* are:

The Beaumont Egalitarian Society – sequel (October) White Wave (December?) Call Me Rumpel (TBD)As You Wish (April)The Kitsune’s Lullaby (TBD)The Monsters We Hide (TBD)

Plus a few other titles. The above, however, are the stories I’m most keen to tell. If you’re curious and cannot wait, you may be able to get a glimpse of the stories on the Episode Interactive app (excluding The Beaumont Egalitarian Society‘s sequel and Call Me Rumpel).

I’m looking forward to be able to get really stuck in.

I hope you are all well and having a pleasant start to the month.

~Jennifer x

E-book Distribution

It’s already August—happy birthday horses!—yet I’m still back in April… of 2023. Needless to say, it’s been a very busy year with a radical change to the distribution of the e-book version of The Beaumont Egalitarian Society.

As of this month, my book will no longer be part of Amazon’s KDP Select program. Instead, it will be distributed widely.

[image error]Pexels.com" data-medium-file="https://jennifereglynnauthor.com/wp-c..." data-large-file="https://jennifereglynnauthor.com/wp-c..." tabindex="0" role="button" width="683" height="1024" src="https://jennifereglynnauthor.com/wp-c..." alt="" class="wp-image-1415" style="width:410px;height:auto" />What does this mean exactly?

From August 1st, readers will no longer be able to read The Beaumont Egalitarian Society on Kindle Unlimited (KU). Readers can still purchase the e-book through Amazon for their Kindles, it just won’t be available on Unlimited for a free subscription. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. The good news for those who may have been mid-read, if you’ve already downloaded it through KU, you can still read it anytime you like.

Instead, you will now also be able to purchase the e-book on other e-readers, including Kobo (which you were able to do so before; I removed it the other day, but it is now re-published!). Retailers beyond Amazon will be able to sell the e-book and libraries will now be able to carry it (I’m currently changing the rights on the National Library of Australia to allow downloading and make it easier to access for readers).

Why the change?

Whilst I was bringing in a lot of reads last month on KU, the current exclusivity rules using the program outweigh both the benefits and my anxiety. If I were to keep my book in the program, I could not legally have it sold or distributed anywhere else, or risk my royalties being confiscated AND my book being permanently banned from Amazon. Yikes, not fun.

Given that authors are required to submit any work published on Australian soil by law (Libraries Act 1984), I’d rather comply with my country’s rules than a company’s policy (both, preferably).

What is worse, though, is the current trend of readers pirating books. Recently, an ARC reader (someone an author gives their book to prior to release in exchange for early reviews) uploaded a copy of an e-book to an illegal site. They’re not the first to do so, with many readers copying books from Kindle Unlimited and uploading them to pirate sites. This is annoying, as authors (particularly indie authors) rely heavily on each sale; people aren’t stealing from big brands, they are stealing from authors who are already giving all their savings to their dreams.

[image error]Pexels.com" data-medium-file="https://jennifereglynnauthor.com/wp-c..." data-large-file="https://jennifereglynnauthor.com/wp-c..." tabindex="0" role="button" width="978" height="1300" src="https://jennifereglynnauthor.com/wp-c..." alt="" class="wp-image-1456" style="width:385px;height:auto" />

But what’s more, authors are punished further by Amazon if their e-book is found anywhere on the internet, including pirate sites. Even though authors did not upload the content nor give permission for such distribution, they are still held accountable and run the risk of having their books and accounts removed. Sounds fair, huh? It doesn’t apply to traditionally published books, though, which can be on both KU and distributed worldwide.

A petition is circulating asking Amazon to please reconsider this policy and grant independent authors better protection and rights. If you would like to help authors take better charge of their work, please consider signing the movement.

This is by no means an attack on Amazon. Without them, my dreams of being a published author would have never come true. And whilst yes, they are a big business and most likely don’t care about little old me, I will still be forever grateful for that. But I also believe in my work and my value.

You can sign the petition here: https://www.change.org/p/ku-equal-rights-for-indie-authors

(Currently 818/1000 signatures).

Sharing and spreading the word would also help greatly.

Some good news…

It hasn’t all been yelling for change this week.

I’m excited to be packing an order today (thank you!). I finally get to break out my little packing box of goodies and you can bet I’ll probably go a tad overboard. But using a custom logo wax seal isn’t too much, right? Right?

Yesterday’s disastrous attempt at designing bookmarks has also resulted in a new venture. I wanted to make something specific to my novels, but unfortunately, the vision in my head did not come to fruition. Apparently, carving wood is actually hard. Who’d have thought that?

More details will come, of course, but good news for fellow vintage lovers: the theme will now stick until new character art can be sourced from someone who can actually draw and paint (aka not me). I hope you like them; they are just a small token of my gratitude. Previous purchases through me will also receive a little goodie bag as soon as I sort everything out.

For now, please bask in the unholy glory of my first and last attempt to paint my own designs :’)

Happy reading,

~Jennifer x
