Author Spotlight Tuesday - Tali Spencer

Boxers or briefs?

For me, boxers. For my men, neither. I get them out of whatever they’re wearing ASAP anyway. But I think a man should wear whatever he’s most comfy in.

Favorite position to write?

Gosh that’s a tough one. I like them all, but I’m going to say doggie style, because I love the power dynamic there… oh, you mean position for when I’m actually writing? That’s boring. I sit in a chair in front of a desk with a keyboard.

Favorite kink to write?

Bondage, hands down. I haven’t published a lot of it, but it’s definitely my favorite to write because I really enjoy the interplay of power and helplessness. Putting oneself in that position, taking sexual advantage of someone in that position… whether they’re willing or not. The body held captive is an erotic and beautiful thing.

Tattoos or piercings?

Piercings for sure. I like both in small doses.

Cut, uncut or I love them all?

Love them all! I joke about having a penis fetish, but it’s true. Nothing’s more fun than a stiff dick!

What's your favorite thing about Thick as Thieves?

Other than that the main character, Vorgell, has a mighty fine and very big cock? I think what I love best about this story is how much fun I had writing it. Sword and sorcery is a great fantasy genre and for this book I just unleashed years of writing experience and let it rip using gay male characters. Vorgell is a giant, seven foot tall barbarian and Madd is a small pretty witch male with a chip on his shoulders that’s bigger than he is. They meet in a dungeon after Vorgell has unwisely used a unicorn horn in a place no unicorn horn was ever meant to go. As a result, he’s horny as hell… and Madd is only other person in the cell. From there things go downhill straight into a series of adventures with wizards, witches, magic, enchanted sex collars, and a basilisk egg.

The book differs from a lot of gay sword and sorcery in that it has fun with its own tropes, turning some inside out and giving winks to others. The goal is to make people laugh while at the same time taking them on a fast-paced romp of a romance in its very earliest stages, complicated by quirky secondary characters and interesting world-building. It tickles me to no end the book has been named a finalist for the Rainbow Awards.

After Vorgell the barbarian fucks himself with a unicorn horn, he ends up in a cell with Maddog, a pretty young thief. It’s lust at first sight for Vorgell—but honestly, he can’t help it. Unicorn horn is a potent aphrodisiac, and now he can’t stop thinking about sex. Luckily, Madd is one male witch who knows how to put Vorgell’s new magical body to good use when he tricks Vorgell into a kiss that helps them escape.

Vorgell may desire sex in general—and Madd in particular—but Madd has no intention of being screwed by a man twice his size. He has problems of his own, including an enchanted collar that causes him to desire his most hated enemy. He wants that collar off as soon as possible, but that requires stealing a basilisk egg from the castle they just escaped.

Drawn together by lust and magic, the two men join forces and soon find themselves up to their necks in witches, wizards, and trouble. Vorgell and Madd might just be perfect for each other, but first they have to survive long enough to find out.

But why stop at the blurb when you can enjoy an Excerpt:

Madd frowned, his dark gaze traveling down Vorgell’s body and taking in his state of undress. “I guess we’ll have to find you some clothes.”

Vorgell liked that idea. “You could just hand me your cloak.”

“No!” Madd clutched the garment closed at the throat. “We’ll… find you something else.” He sighed. “You don’t get it, do you? We need to disappear. You consumed an entire unicorn horn, and—”

“And I’m horny all the time now. I know.” As if to confirm that point, Vorgell’s cock twitched and plumped at the sight of his companion. Even wrapped in shadows and with a water stain from the puddle on his ass, Madd was bewitching. Vorgell’s blood warmed just to look at him. “But I don’t see what that has to do with—”

“Are you really so gods-addled clueless? A mere sliver of unicorn horn makes a man horny for days. You consumed the entire horn! You filled your gargantuan body with so much fucking unicorn magic you’re now a walking, talking reservoir of enchantment! And you’re not a magician, are you? You’re like a toad sitting on gold coins! You can’t get rid of your pot of gold because you don’t know how to use it!”

Vorgell blinked at the little guy’s rage, struggling to see past the fact that Madd looked unbearably cute when he gestured and paced and sputtered. So cute Vorgell wanted to push him against the moldy wall and silence him with kisses while he pushed his cock against that delectable, lithe body. He fought to keep focus as his cock stiffened to full engorgement.

“I can do magic?”

Madd rolled his eyes. “No. You fucking are magic. Like a unicorn. Your blood, your bones, every living part of you, is filled with the shit.” He sighed. “Why the hell do you think I bit you in the tower, except to get at the magic? Or sucked your cock just now? Which, by the way,” he added, “I don’t plan on doing regularly.”

“But you’re good at it. And, well, I thought—” But then he realized he hadn’t been thinking for some days. It was time to start doing it. “So you are using me?”
Madd looked him in the eye. “Yes. And you’re fortunate in that. Because although I’m not a particularly good magician, I’m much more ethical than the baron or his like. Or any of the Wizards’ Guild. That lot would be bleeding you by now and amputating toes to suck on for a little extra spell power.”

Vorgell considered this. He distrusted magic users. He also knew a thing or two about unscrupulous men and could be one himself when the situation demanded. He hadn’t carried Madd away from their prison out of gratitude, but for purposes of ravishment. The latter still sounded like a good idea.

My God It's Monday

The next two weeks are brought to you by the numbers 3 and 4 and the letter 's' for series.

The fourth Chess book is available for pre-order on October 11 at Tolal e-Bound. It'll be available for download at Total e-Bound only on October 25, and for general release on November 22.

Knight is home from the hospital, so everything should be back to normal, right? Things are never that easy, though, and the men of Chess must fight to get their lives back.

Knight has returned home from the hospital, but is far from recovered. Things seem to be going well, but depression slowly winds its way around Knight, and he spends all his time in bed sleeping, slipping farther and farther away from his lovers and life.

Rook just wants everything to go back to normal now that their lover is home and Bishop is out of his depth when it comes to Knight's depression. Can Jason figure out what's wrong and take the steps needed to help Knight find himself again?

The struggle has just begun in Knight's recovery—are the men of Chess up to the task? Find out in this fourth installment of the Chess series.

The third Cereus anthology comes out on October 16 from Torquere Press. My story in this stars another demon -- Quake isn't quite as grumpy as Zee, but he was still fun to write -- and an angel, kicked out of heaven for helping a vampire. The book also has two stories by Julia Talbot and BA Tortuga.

This week feels busier than most -- or maybe it's just that it's Monday!

I did get to see World War Z (maybe the week should have been brought to you by the letters 's' and 'z'...) and also Iron Man 3 on the weekend. Both movies were better than I was expecting, which is always nice. I liked the first Iron Man okay, but disliked the second greatly, so it was nice to enjoy the third one. And WWZ was intense and now I want to read the book.

Okay, I should probably get back to the things that are making me busy. I've got edits to go through, stories to get to publishers :)

Tomorrow I'll be posting a 'blue' excerpt over at the TRS Blue blog.

Thursday I'll be at the Romance for the Rest of Us blog -- there will be a contest included!

Tomorrow's Author Spotlight Tuesday is Tali Spencer.

Author Spotlight Tuesday - Declan Sands

Boxers or briefs?

Boxers, definitely. The boys need room to move. LOL

Favorite position to write?

I wish I could say something really cool here but I’m boring. I sit at a desk and work. Weather permitting I will work outside on my porch swing with my laptop. If I don’t work in a fairly structured way I lose focus.

Favorite kink to write?

ActualIy, I’m not an extremely kinky writer. However, I did write one story that I think was kinky. I still get hot thinking about my Razor short, Inadvertent Voyeur. It dealt with voyeurism, ménage, and best buddy m/m action. Yum.

Tattoos or piercings?

I always enjoy a good tramp stamp. #:0)

Cut, uncut or I love them all?

Love them all!

What's your favorite thing about Hoaley Inexplicable?

I’ve really enjoyed writing about Adam Hoale and the gang. The Hoale Construction Series is based on a sexy, thirty-something, gay construction company owner with the unfortunate name of Adam Hoale and his mostly gay group of professional associates. Adam’s business partner, Maddy, is a lesbian, his realtor, Mink, is gay, and his big, loveable but angst-ridden dog Walter is…well…neutered. The mysteries in the series are tied to the places Adam and his gang flip or rehabilitate and Adam does a fairly decent job both of solving the mysteries and getting on the admittedly twitchy nerves of their friend and hetro cop with a stick up his ass, Detective Craig Clandestine. CC for short. The mysteries are fun, fast paced, and anchored by the on again, off again romance of Adam and his secretly gay lover, Dirk Williams, who is a B-level Hollywood actor.

I like that it’s different from other m/m series out there. A ton of m/m series feature a cop as one of the lovers. I decided construction guys had the potential to be just as sexy as lawmen and the concept of working in different locations all the time offered a lot of opportunity for mysteries to pop up.

Bringing Bobby’s Gym into the twenty-first century should have been fun. But the dead guy draped over the weight machine definitely took the joy out of it!
The Hoale Construction gang has taken on the task of bringing Bobby’s Gym into the twenty-first century. But the dead guy hanging from the new lat machine is putting a serious crimp in their timeline. When Bobby becomes the number one suspect for the murder, Adam and the gang are forced to try and clear him. But who is the guy? And was Bobby really the last one to see him alive? Questions only seem to multiply the deeper they dig. Until they uncover a connection with a group of thugs who call themselves the Indiana Mobsters. Things just continue to spiral downward from there.

Three -- count 'em three! -- books out today!

It's a banner release day for me -- a SWAK story from Resplendence, a Hammer story in a bartender anthology and a long BDSM, mmm novella from Torquere.

Jack’s life is typical—typical barely-there boyfriend, typical shitty job, typical tiny apartment in the city. But when Jack is dropped off at Wellbrooke Pony Farm in the middle of nowhere, his life goes from typical to interesting in two seconds flat. A handsome groom named Daniel teaches Jack that it’s okay to want more, to be cared for, and that sometimes, a city boy just needs to be stabled.

mini-excerpt

“I didn’t ask for this.” Oh, God. Oh, God.

“But you want it.” His hand drops to my package.

“What…” I stand up, my heart fluttering, about to bolt.

Daniel stands with me, hands sliding on my skin, gentling me. “You’re hard, colt.”

“I’m…”

He opens my jeans, smoothes them down over my hips.

And he’s right—I’m hard. My cock pushes against my underwear like it’s trying to get his attention.

When Jai and Bay meet at The Bending Willow where Bay is a bartender, they never expect that the two of them together will catch the eye of Master Storm, but that’s exactly what happens.

Bay’s been looking for a Dom ever since he started work at the Bending Willow, but Jai’s not familiar at all with the lifestyle. Can the three men find a balance that works for each of them, or will Bay have to choose between Jai and Storm?

mini excerpt

He opened up, letting Bay in, letting Bay taste him. Fingers pressing into his skin, Bay tightened his hold as he deepened the kiss. It was addictive, how much Bay wanted him, the passion.

"Is this okay?" Bay asked, pulling him closer.

"God, yes. It's delicious."

"Good." Bay continued to kiss him.

It was a little dizzying, and he swayed into the kiss. One of Bay's hands came up and cupped his cheek. Oh. Oh, that was... Wow. Also, so dear. He leaned into the touch, his hand on Bay's hip.

The kisses continued, melding one into another until Bay finally broke away and leaned their foreheads together, panting hard.

"I... Do you want to... see the bed?" God, he could hardly speak after those kisses.

Bay didn't hesitate for a second. "I do."

Do you like your bartenders hot and sexy? Do you like it when they get up close and personal with some of their patrons? Then you’ll love Bar None!

Kiernan Kelly goes into outer space for Kind of a D.R.A.G., the story of bartender Max and a robot who’s more than your standard nuts and bolts. On the other hand, Julia Talbot’s men stay firmly planted on earth, and in nature, as werebear Seamus deals with grumpy bar owner and werewolf Hugh and a dangerous animal poacher in The Blue Moon Bar.

BA Tortuga revisits Shane and Galen from the Stormy Weather series in Bartender Rescue. This time Shane’s the one working too hard and Galen has to remind his bartender how to have fun before they forget how to be a couple. In Flair, Sean Michael goes to the Hammer club where flair expert Nathan is hired by Xavier to teach the staff some bartending tricks, but it’s Dom Jarrod who winds up showing Nathan a few tricks of his own.

Don’t miss out on these four sexy tales of bartenders and the men who love them.

buy link

mini excerpt

"Damn." Nathan stepped forward, leaving his coffee on the counter. "Do you kiss?"

"I sure as fuck do." He didn't believe in that no-kissing nonsense. If you were going to fuck someone, why the hell wouldn't you kiss them?

He wrapped his palm around Nathan's skull and tilted his head before bringing their lips together.

Nathan opened up, tongue sliding against his, confident and wanton. Oh, damn. Damn, someone was hungry.

As if their kiss was a signal, they were suddenly kissing hard, bodies pressing together, rubbing. Fuck. Fuck, Nathan was a live-wire, cock like a brand against him. He leaned back against the counter, bringing Nathan with him so the slender body pressed hard along the length of his own.

The chemistry between them made him groan, made his eyes cross. Christ. Fucking intense. He found Nathan's ass, grabbed it with both hands. Tiny, tight, round -- Jarrod's mouth watered.

Author Spotlight Tuesday - Kiernan Kelly, Julia Talbot, BA Tortuga, and me!

Bar None, an anthology of 4 novellas featuring bartenders, by Kiernan Kelly, Julia Talbot, BA Tortuga, and myself, comes out tomorrow and I thought it would be fun if I got four different takes on a few 'bar' related questions.

Favorite bartender's outfit

Kiernan: Plastic see-through thong. It’s like watching an eel in a fishbowl.
Julia: In general or specifically? I like the jeans and t-shirt look, really. The occasional girl in a tank top and teeny shorts. I love the shirts they wear at my favorite burger and adult beverage milkshake bar in Vegas. "They say you are what you eat. I'm fast, cheap and juicy"
BA: Jeans and a button-down. I like my bartenders to be dressed and clean.
me: Tight pants, no shirt, a nice six-pack (the kind you lick, not the kind you drink)

Favorite cocktail/drink

Kiernan: Sex with an Alligator. Seriously. Here’s the recipe:
sweet and sour mix
Midori® melon liqueur
1/2 oz raspberry liqueur
1/2 oz Jagermeister® herbal liqueur
Add sweet and sour mix along with Midori to a shaker w/ice, shake and strain. Layer in raspberry liqueur and Jager. Raspberry should go to the bottom and Jager should float on top. Works best in Martini glass.
Julia: I love Kahlua and cream
BA: I'm currently very into Palomas — basically a margarita with grapefruit juice and I drink my share of wine. I miss beer like whoa.
me: Lime marguarita and/or beer

Favorite bar snack

Kiernan: Peanuts. They’re tiny, they’re salty, and easy to surreptitiously fling them at people who annoy you.
Julia: Bacon cheese fries with ranch. Uhn
BA: Nachos!
me: fully loaded potato skins

How many bartenders does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Kiernan: At least three. One to hold your light bulb while two others change everyone else’s light bulb first.
Julia: That depends on how many of them want to screw, I suppose.
BA: 2 — one to hold the bulb and the other to serve enough booze that the room starts spinning.
me: who needs to screw in a lightbulb? my boys can do it just fine in the dark ;)

Favorite thing about the bartender in your Bar None story

Kiernan: Ooh, I can’t give that away! When you read the story, I know you’ll think, “Oh, that’s what Kiernan meant!” *grins*
Julia: Seamus is a bear shifter, and I really worked to make him a bear in personality, sort of big and lumbering and comical but with a dangerous side
BA: Oh, my dear Shane. I just loved taking him out of the box and playing with him again :D
me: Nathan is totally not into the bdsm scene and it was fun introducing him to it (via Jarrod of course). There were also a couple of very fun conversations in it -- with the twinky bartenders at the beginning and later between Nathan and Jarrod wherein sex with Minotaurs was mentioned... I'll say no more.
