Er...

Kinda hard to root for your team when they look like a bunch of bumblebees. I keep wondering if the other team is mocking them from across the line of scrimmage. 0_o

Oh, fanfic, why do they hate you so?

So I was reading this article on fanfic , which—unlike a lot of articles I’ve seen on the subject—treated it as something that’s not only an unfairly maligned pastime but a worthy one. Now, I can’t say I was all that pleased with the vaunting of some of what I consider poorly-written… stuff, and the use of it as examples as to why fanfic may have some value, but it seems the only time something can be considered valuable is when someone makes money from it, so what are you going to do.

(In f...

Just when I thought I couldn't be *more* disappointed in people

Pope Decides Gay People Aren’t Fully Developed Humans.

Okay, I'm not quite sure I agree with the headline interpretation, but either way, the message is pretty much endorsed intolerance. Intolerance endorsed by a religion. A religion founded on a figure who preached tolerance. *boggles* Which I guess I should have learned to expect by now, but still. It would be nice to think we actually learned a thing or two from the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Salem witch trials and the Civil Rights Move...

Something else I've been up to ;)

Okay, I haven’t been up to it, my daughter has, but still. There was motherly involvement on my part! Or grandmotherly. Whatever.

Evan Allen, born 10:39am yesterday, weighing in at 8lbs 8oz. (Future soccer player!) He missed the 22nd by one day, so I've been told I'm not allowed to call him Bilbo. Ever. (Not one of my four--four!--kids is a fantasy nerd. Not one! How fair is that?)

Everyone’s happy and healthy. (Well, Evan’s probably...

Olympics

The Queen as a Bond Girl FTW! Had a total nerd moment. But no Tolkien or Lewis in the Brit Lit segment? WTF?

Last chance

I did an interview with Cole at The Armchair Reader earlier this week, and in it was a chance to win a couple of books in the Wolf’s-own series (winner’s choice). There’s still a little bit of time to enter, so if you’re interested, drop by (soon—it ends today) and leave a comment.

I’d like to thank Cole again for having me. He came up with some really good questions that I really enjoyed answering.

And while I'm here

I really need to share This bit of unrelated but OMG! news. The RN referred to in the article is my daughter, who didn’t actually assist in the rescue, but singlehandedly saved the boy’s life. When she pulled him from the water, he was blue, had no pulse, wasn’t breathing and had foam coming from mouth and nose. She gave the boy CPR for the 20 or so minutes it took the EMS to get there, by which time she finally got him breathing on his own.

An 8-yr-old boy is alive today because my daughter went swimming over the weekend. I’m so goddamned proud I can’t even come up with the words.
