Who doesn't have a tablet computer these days? The other interesting development is to watch how the Amazon Kindle has morphed into a fully functional tablet itself.

Amazon Fire - An E-Reader Or A Tablet?

Amazon's turbo charged Kindle is called the Kindle Fire. What most people don't know is that the Kindle Fire is clearly the best value in the whole world of tablets for one simple reason: Amazon actually loses money each time it sells one. The business plan is to get people into their ecosystem to further the sales of their digital download products. Whether it is music, movies, E-Books, or games, once you have a Kindle Fire in your hand you are only a couple of clicks away from buying content to consume.

Why This Is Great News For E-Book Authors

If you are an E-Book author (like me), the more people that have an Amazon Kindle the more money we stand to make. While it is true that consumers can read E-Books on desktops, laptops, iPads, and even smart phones, the explosion of Kindle devices in the marketplace is a boon for E-Book sales.

Most People Don't Know That They Can Go Into Business With Amazon For Free

It is this time of year that I typically meet a lot of new people. Many people hit me with that 'What do you do for a living' question at social gatherings. Well, in my case that is a bit complicated to answer but I usually say, 'I am an author and a talk show host.'  That ends up quickly giving me the status of the most interesting guy in the room, and next comes the endless questions about how to get started with a book of their own. It seems that almost everyone these days has an idea for a book.

Go Into Business With Amazon And Take A 70% Cut Of The Sales

What is probably the most remarkable benefit for me as an author is that Amazon with pays me 70% of the money when one of my E-Books sells (if I follow their pricing guidelines). So, here is Amazon out in the marketplace building this enormous brand, selling tablet computers at a loss, spending millions on marketing, and I can go into business with them for FREE and earn 70% of the money (what a country!).

ShortcutA Big Excuse Eliminated For Would-Be Authors

Although many folks have an initial excitement about the idea of writing an E-Book and earning monthly recurring income, they become discouraged at the thought of what it might take to actually write a book. I recently published a new video titled, 'The Shortcut Publishing Method - From Idea To Amazon In 2 Weeks,' which outlines a simple process that anyone can use to crank out their first book in just 14 days!

My Own Black Friday Deal

I want to do something for the first time ever today (and this is an extremely limited offer). This offer will absolutely expire at midnight on Saturday night. Join my eBook Coaching Program at the Gold Level (or higher) and I will give you a Kindle Fire HD 6. You get an entire year of access to my eBook coaching program (Gold Level) and a beautiful new tablet computer to start your journey into the world of digital publishing. I am also going to include my two hour Shortcut Publishing Video as well (*** This would be an amazing gift to give someone. We can put the subscription to the E-Book coaching in the name of the gift recipient).

I recommend that all of my E-Book coaching students grab a tablet computer for a couple of reasons. First, as an E-Book author you should to also be a big reader of E-Books. Taking time to read other author's E-Books within your niche will be a great exercise for coming up with ideas for your own books. Secondly, with the new Kindle Unlimited program you can gain access to more than 600,000 E-Books for a flat monthly subscription of only $9.95. With a subscription like this, you can also access tons of books on E-Book publishing and E-Book marketing (all resources for my ways to make money with your own books).  All of this, not to even mention how cool and convenient it is to be able to check your e mail, Facebook, and surf the Internet with such a lightweight device.

Louisiana Restaurant Offers Discount to Patrons Who Pack Heat

While Americans, by and large, have demonstrated time and again that they do not want restrictions on their guns, a vocal minority continues to try as hard as it can to disarm the nation’s law-abiding citizens. Recently, some militant, anti-gun groups, like Moms Demand Action, have placed particular scrutiny on retail establishments, pressuring them to create policies that prohibit appropriately-licensed gun owners from carrying inside their stores and restaurants.

Gumbo

Finally, however, we’re seeing evidence of a bit of “pushback” at other retail locations against the trend of effectively disarming citizens. Take, for example, Bergeron’s restaurant of Port Allen, Louisiana; Bergeron’s is one of a growing number of retail locations that is actually encouraging the patronization of gun-carrying customers. As a matter of fact, Bergeron’s has started offering a 10% discount to those customers who come in packing heat. Restaurant owner Kevin Cox implemented the gun-carriers discount six weeks ago, and has seen his lunch business jump 25% since that time; says Cox, in a recent CBSNews.com article, “Show that you have one so if something goes wrong here today I know you're here to protect me.” For that, he’s willing to pass along a discount that once went only to police officers.

The matter of gun rights is one area in which enormous numbers of conservatives, as well as those who may not see themselves as conservative but are nevertheless supporters of the 2nd Amendment, have shown the willingness to fight back against the collectivists. As a matter of fact, America’s culture of gun ownership is so strong, so deep, that even many of a political persuasion anathema to most of what the typical conservative stands for are themselves in lockstep with him when it comes to the matter of guns. On that note, it’s not surprising to see overt, grass-roots efforts supporting the expression of gun rights in stores and restaurants throughout America gain strength, and it’s likely that we’ll find this is just the beginning.

Do You Have A Financial Equalizer?

EqualizerI don't know if you remember the old TV show The Equalizer. I absolutely loved this show. Edward Woodward was perfectly cast as the main character, Robert McCall. The Equalizer was a retired spy that used his background and special skills to help ordinary people get justice (when the authorities were of no help).

By the way, if you missed it, the movie version starring Denzel Washington came out just a few weeks ago. The movie version was a bit more violent than the TV show (see trailer below).

You have to love The Equalizer because he was ready, willing, and able to step up and help an average person that was being victimized. I always loved to watch the bad guys as they laughed at him, not knowing what they had just gotten themselves into. They had won the worst kind of lottery, having crossed paths with an adversary that had them outmatched in every way imaginable.

I Like To Think Of Myself As The Financial Equalizer

The world is filled with financial bullies. They are standing on every street corner waiting to take your lunch money and give you a black eye. Yep, I personally run up against them almost every day myself. This summer a  major national auto repair shop charged me over $500 for a repair on a car I gave to my son. Less than six weeks later my son was stranded in Orlando when the axle that was installed completely failed. I went back to the repair shop and the manager was not just rude, he shouted at me and said he would not reimburse us for the emergency repairs. I quietly said under my breath, "you picked the wrong guy pal." It took about a month, but I received a nice letter of apology from their corporate office along with sizable check.

My wife joined a local health club several months ago and began to run into trouble when she was repeatedly unable to take the promised fitness classes. We finally figured out that the club had sold too many memberships and to deal with the overcrowding they had employed a series of unethical tactics to prevent people from taking the classes (too long of a story to get into details). My wife repeatedly complained and they were downright rude. So, she decided to cancel on the basis that they were unable to provide the services she had signed up for. They said she could not cancel without paying a cancellation fee and an additional month of membership and only after 30 days notice (and on and on). She sent them a certified letter informing them of her immediate cancellation and that she would not be paying them a dime more. After receiving the letter they called my wife and made a series of threats (including suing her, destroying her credit, continuing to take money from her bank account, etc...). Well - they may now just be figuring out that they picked the wife of the Financial Equalizer to victimize. Let us just say that they will soon wish they had picked someone else.

Left For Dead, But I Am Back

TkdpicMy own brother and bookkeeper embezzled two million dollars from me in 2002 and left me bankrupt. He laughed and said it was my word against his. From the local police all the way up to the FBI, no one would help me. I won't share the whole story here, but I sued him and obtained a judgment for nearly $5 million dollars. I also got him banned for life from the securities industry. No, this was not revenge - it was justice. Like Jesus, I am not afraid to turn over the tables of the money changers and I have done so on many occasions (and will continue to when necessary). Nothing makes me more angry than scammers stealing from God's people.

You may have read the book about the $100 million dollar worldwide Ponzi scheme that I exposed last year. They targeted the Christian community, pastors, and entire churches. They hired a private investigator to follow me, they tried to intimidate me, and even threatened my family. The whole thing was shut down and the promoters are now in court facing thousands in fines (and maybe worse before it is over). My reporting led to more than $11 million dollars being frozen in foreign bank accounts that can be used to pay back victims.

94 Year Old Robbed While Grocery Shopping

94 year old Donald Harshbarger is a World War II Veteran and lives in Leesburg, Florida. Leesburg, is a retirement community northwest of Orlando (not far from the retirement mecca The Villages). There was an individual standing behind Harshbarger in line at a local grocery store (see picture below). The man followed him out to the parking lot and then asked him if he could break a $50 bill. Harshbarger took out his wallet, and the thief grabbed it and ran. The police later recovered the wallet from a trash can with $200 missing. Thank God that Harshbarger was not physically harmed in the robbery.

Crimes Of Opportunity

Most crimes today are 'crimes of opportunity.' This contradicts the popular notion that most crimes are planned in advance. Crimes of opportunity are just that, criminals that are prepared 24/7 to take advantage of an opportunity that presents itself. A criminal out doing their own Christmas shopping pulls into an available parking spot and notices a pile of shopping bags in the empty car next to them - opportunity. They drive past a house with an open garage door and no one in sight - opportunity. Driving by a bank at night they notice an individual standing at the ATM by themselves - opportunity. They are in line at the grocery store and notice an elderly man with a large amount of cash in his wallet - opportunity.

video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player

I want to make it clear that I have never and will never blame the victim of a crime. Mr. Harshbarger was a victim, and has the right to carry as much cash as he wants in his billfold. But, from a practical standpoint, we each have the choice to present fewer opportunities to would-be predators. We are seeing more and more crimes at locations that have historically been considered safe. For example, while researching this article I found a growing number of robberies that are now taking place at major grocery store chains. Who expects to be a victim of a crime while grocery shopping? Who expects the guy behind you in the checkout line to rob you? Our local Target Pharmacy was robbed three weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon! Yep, someone walked all the way into the center of the store to the pharmacy window and committed a robbery in the middle of the day.

From Wikipedia -

Crime Opportunity theory is a theory that suggests that offenders make rational choices and thus choose targets that offer a high reward with little effort and risk. The occurrence of a crime depends on two things: the presence of at least one motivated offender who is ready or willing to engage in a crime, and the conditions of the environment in which that offender is situated, to wit, opportunities for crime. All crimes require opportunity but not every opportunity is followed by crime. Similarly a motivated offender is necessary for the commission of a crime but not sufficient. A large part of this theory focuses on how variations in life-style or routine activities affect the opportunities for crime (Hindelang, Gottfredson, and Garofalo 1978; Cohen and Felson 1979; Cohen, Felson, and Land 1980).

While I don't know, I would guess that the thief in this case simply saw an opportunity and took it. I make it a point to always consider how my actions may present an 'opportunity' to a criminal. If you think in these terms you will substantially lower the odds of becoming a random victim yourself.

Canadian Woman Stuck With Nearly $1 Million In Medical Bills After Giving Birth In U.S,

A Canadian couple is facing the very real prospect of bankruptcy after an unfortunate set of circumstances has left them with a medical bill just shy of $1 million. Jennifer Huculak was six months pregnant when she was cleared by her doctor to take a one last vacation with her husband before the birth of their child. Jennifer purchased travel insurance from Blue Cross of Canada, and the couple went on their way; however, her water broke while in Hawaii, resulting in an extended hospital stay during which their baby was delivered prematurely. Blue Cross of Canada cited as a “pre-existing condition” a bladder infection that caused her to bleed slightly at the four month-mark of her pregnancy, and has refused to pay the couple’s hospital bills on that basis. Ms. Huculak’s physician wrote a letter to Blue Cross informing them that his patient was indeed stable when they departed for the trip, and that the bladder infection could not be the cause of the premature delivery, but Blue Cross has yet to budge.

Winnipeg

At this point, not enough is known about this couple’s ordeal to determine if they made a genuine misstep somewhere along the way, or if the insurance company should rightfully wear the title of “ogre” in this case; the precise details and history regarding that which transpired will surely be played out in a courtroom somewhere in the future. Regardless, this event serves to remind us that purchasing travel insurance must be approached with a great deal of care - this is true of any type of coverage, but travel insurance is particularly famous (infamous?) for the numerous exclusions and limitations of liability that typically characterize it. If, after vetting a policy you’re considering, you still have concerns about its protections, then either go further in receiving clarification…in writing…from the insurance company, or hold off on taking the trip until such time that you can be certain you’re appropriately protected.
