Holy crap, you're doing Kamandi?!! Can you tell us more?

It’s a fun book, twelve great creative teams each telling one chapter of a massive story. I am telling the last chapter, I believe. Wow!

Is it true that Steve Orlando is bringing Ryan Choi into the Justice League?

He is, and he’s a fantastic choice. Very happy!

Hi Gail! I just started reading your work and WOW! I was going to call it "ahead of our times", but it's more a case of our times needing to catch up. Do you think that the portrayal of women in comics still have a long way to go before they're treated equ

Oh, sure, but it’s getting much better. Right now, it’s more about volume, there’s still not nearly as much good female-lead material and I think that will change, too.

I am not a person who ignores when things are improving. I give the industry credit for making a lot of huge strides. And I also don’t feel every book has to have ‘girl appeal.’ I am fine if there are books that cater more to boys or men (in general, I really don’t want to typecast all guys as having the same taste); I don’t care if there are books that are cheesecake, I don’t care about any of that. People should have the books they like. I believe in real diversity, which means I can think some books are terrible and still be glad they are there for the people that want those particular books. A lot of people probably loathe the books that are most cherished by me, that’s fine. That’s how it should work, in my opinion.

There’s a ways to go, and in particular, I am hoping women get a little more representation in the editorial and publisher levels. They are out there, a lot are doing magnificent work, but I’d like to see more.  And I’d like to see the types of books available continue to expand and be supported.

I don’t know if ‘treated equally’ is really even the goal. I feel like ‘not excluded’ is the hurdle we are working on now, ‘having their full value and potential realized’ is maybe a goal I can get more behind. I want all these amazing characters to shine (I feel that way about a LOT of boy characters who are under-utilized, as well). It’s just that we are still sort of emerging from a pretty dark cave in this regard, and it’s taking a while to adjust to the light.

But we’ll all get there together.

REMINDER TO ALL YOU YOUNG PEOPLE:

bri-ecrit:

shisno:

blasphemous-lies-and-deceit:

Do Not Take A Picture of Your Ballot

It is illegal. Your vote will be thrown out and not counted.

DO NOT post it on Facebook, or Twitter, or Snapchat or Instagram or Tumblr or ANYTHING. Don’t share it with your friends. The likes and notes are not worth it. Just keep your phones in your damn pockets the entire time you’re voting.Take a cute selfie with the “I Voted” sticker afterwards instead.

Please don’t let me read headlines going something like “Millennials fucked up the election by posting pictures of their ballots” because it will be fucking insufferable. And also Trump will probably win and we’ll all be fucked.

Also, DO NOT WEAR ANY SHIRTS, HATS, PINS, BAGS, ETC. THAT SHOWCASE A CERTAIN CANDIDATE OR POLITICIAN WHEN YOU GO TO VOTE!

It’s called passive electioneering, and some states will bar you from entering a voting place if you are wearing anything pro-or-anti-a certain candidate. Show your support that day by voting instead of wearing your candidate proudly on clothes.

THIS IS IMPORTANT.

DO NOT TAKE/POST PICTURES OF YOUR BALLOT.

DON’T DO IT.

Dear White Feminists

angryblackgirlrants:

Your fighting for the right for equal pay, and the equal opportunity to work in career fields that have historically been only for white men, and the ability to be anything you want without the patriarchy dictating it. Women of color, and I are fighting all of that, in addition too fight for the right to live. Without society giving me subliminal messages that I’m inheritable wrong which causes me to internalize and hate myself. I’m also fight for justice for women of color who are killed everyday all while fighting for our children’s survival. This is not the same. Please think before comparing yourselves. You will always have a leg up!

My favorite part of when characters are revealed as bi are when the news media and fans do everything they can to erase any different gendered relationship, repeatedly refer to them as gay, try and erase all the differently gendered relationship history, and then call people lesbophobic and queerbaiting if they point out that this character is not a lesbian, but bisexual.

And by favorite, I mean fucking burn it.

QUOTED BECAUSE TRUTH.
