Very interesting and thoughtful article. Lot to think about there for me.

Daaaaaaang commish. How you doin’?
I’m just going to say what everyone here is thinking: moustache rides.
I do not apologize for the topless Jim Gordon in this scene.

Hopefully I’ll finish putting together my trip report today!
Cute!
There are a couple of things I would like to state for the record. 1) I think you are super, super awesome. B) May I just say that it's adorable and somewhat hilarious that Blake and Scandal have similar sleepy clothes? Did you intend for that, or was that
HA! Well…hmmm. Let me think. I know it was my idea to ask for Scandal to have polka-dotted boxers and a t-shirt, and I’m pretty sure I asked for the similar outfit on Blake. But I hadn’t put them together consciously as a theme. However, I will say that the genders are treated pretty equally for sex appeal in the book, and also for casual NON-sex appeal. It could have happened unintentionally!

Forever A Lem.: "Deadpool" Gets In On The Marvel NOW! Fun With Help From Posehn, Duggan, And Moore
![]()
Alongside Marvel’s interviews with Matt Fraction today is another interview with Brian Posehn, Gerry Duggan, and Tony Moore about the upcoming Deadpool series they will be helming as part of Marvel NOW! in November.
The first arc will see Deadpool fighting dead versions…
They are going to KILL on the book. I am really, excited. Brian Posehn is a friend and the few comics he’s written have been top-notch (his GOON story was amazing, it was mind-blowing). And Gerry Duggan is an underrated genius.
I have written Deadpool, I have seen a lot of DP stuff that didn’t really thrill me. These guys are going to BRING IT.
Feminist Batgirl: Batgirl #12: What Happened? SPOILER WARNING
How very disappointing. After seeing the preview, my concerns about this issue were high, but I thought the story would resolve those. I was wrong. Here are my two main problems.
Why use a guest star to make the title character look bad? If Kate is a strong character, then there is no need to…
Totally sorry you were disappointed! It’s always a bummer when someone doesn’t like an issue, especially when they have been so supportive.
The issue is being very well reviewed but I completely get what you are saying.
The thing is, it’s not that Barbara lacks confidence in this issue, or that she can’t get a shot in. There’s a difference here, in that Batwoman comes in guns blazing, ready to fight. Batgirl doesn’t WANT to fight.
It’s a different fight from most comic book fights, in that it’s not two people going full-out. Batgirl is reluctant, and she doesn’t really believe that Batwoman is bad. She’s not like Wolverine or Batman, who might throw punches FIRST and figure out if they were necessary later. Throughout the run, we have tried to show Batgirl as having strength, but also being a little smarter and more compassionate than just another cowl-jockey.
If she’s really, really wanted to give Batwoman a fight, she would have. At least that’s my take on it. I’m not saying who would win. But in that moment, it makes sense to me that Batgirl would hesitate.
Hope that makes sense.
Sorry you didn’t care for the issue! :(
Thanks Gail. That does clarify some things at least. Honestly, I think my problem here might have more to do with seeing some Kate (and Cass and Steph) fans use this as an opportunity to bash Babs in various comment sections than it does with the issue alone. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of tension between the fans of these characters, and that just takes the joy out of being a fangirl sometimes.
I totally understand it’s no fun when you think a character you love is being disrespected, but I always think it’s kind of fun that people defend their favorite characters…if people like Batwoman better, that’s fine, she’s an amazing character.
I haven’t heard of THAT much tension between Batwoman and Batgirl fans, but I love both, and I’m thrilled they both have hit books done by committed creative teams. That’s just double the happiness for me, I admit.
Hopefully you will like next issue better! Sorry this one let you down. :(

i love you
I would go there EVERY DAY FOREVER.
I don't know if anyone has asked this before, but I was rereading Secret Six recently and I wondered something. What was your thought process/ what inspired you to have Scandal chose BOTH Liana and Knockout and have them all enter into a poly relationship?
Hmm.
Well, I wanted Knockout back, BAD. When she was killed (and no blame for this should go to the writer, it was a decision based on an idea that came from above, that was a good idea in theory, it just caused some havoc in the trenches), I thought it was a waste of a great character. And more than that, I wanted to show that the DCU could have, not just a lesbian character, but an actual lesbian COUPLE that were in love and fun to read about. There just wasn’t a lot of that out there at the time. Still isn’t, really. And a lot of the lgbtq characters that ARE out there are pretty mopey…I wanted to show a couple that worked through their problems and were in love and happy.
Call me a romantic.
Anyway, Knockout was taken away, and knowing the kind of character Scandal is, she had to grieve. She was hurt and a little broken. What was fun was to put Liana in that mix…someone who was SO cheerful and SO positive that eventually even Scandal can’t stay depressed around her.
If you notice, most of the Six are uncomfortable around Liana, because their own viewpoints are so cynical and informed by darkness. Even after she is taken and tortured, she insists that they not hurt her abductor. They just don’t know what to do around someone like that. I think she reminds them of a humanity they have abdicated, and it’s almost painful.
So eventually, Scandal falls in love again, but she never forgets Knockout.
Backstage, I was trying to get Knockout back, but it just wasn’t happening.
When I finally was given approval to bring her back, there really wasn’t any other option to me. Scandal thinks, oh, no, I have to choose one of them.
And Jeannette says, “No, you don’t. Why should you?”
I agree with Jeannette. There’s the added bonus that a lot of people live as poly, and there’s not really any representation for them in mainstream comics. So that’s another good reason to do it.
It just seemed like the best possible solution. I’m glad we went that way. If there’s a pre-52 Earth out there somewhere, I’m hoping they’re all three in it, happy as clams.
So the long answer is that, and the short answer is, I am a romantic.
