Hi Gail, if you had the chance to write a Batman book would you like to create a new villain or would you use one of the “classic” rogues? Which one will be more fun for you? Sorry if my English, saludos desde México

Your English is excellent, no worries!

To be honest, I’m not as wild about all the Batman rogues as some others, I love most of them, but some I find kind of exposed. I love Bane, Croc, Mad Hatter, the Penguin, the Joker, and Harley, those are my favorites.

I’ve gotten to write all of them at one point, so I would probably create a new character, I imagine?

Do you know if you will be doing any panels at Emerald City Comic Con, or will you just be signing there?

I am sure I will…I don’t know what my panels are yet, but I’ll announce them here when I know. I don’t usually pick the topics.

Avengers Question for Females

Anyone identifying as female is more than welcome to answer…

I was having a conversation with a very talented and successful comics artist about how comics companies in the past and even currently sometimes seem to actively push away female readers. He agreed, and cited the Avengers movie (which I loved) as an example of how to do these characters in a way that appealed to more than just dudes. He said the audience was near 50/50 for that film.

Obviously, that’s a little binary right there but I know what he meant, that it had equal appeal for men and women.

I think that’s probably accurate, the girl love for that film is strong.

At the same time, it is very much a slam bang action film.

So here’s my question, no right or wrong answer. If you identify as female and you liked the AVENGERS film, what specifically did you like?

You can cite as many things as you like and there’s no right or wrong answer. I just think it should be very interesting to see what they did that gained them such a large female audience.

I have lots of characters I thought it would be fun to know.

Ryan was a character I wanted to BE. Brilliant, kind, generous, living a life of science and education and friendship in a town of weird things around every corner, and a much, much underestimated- power set.

Ryan should have ended up being the JLA’s secret weapon.

Can I Ask A Favor About Asks?

I get many many dozens of emails and tweets and requests and asks every day and can only answer some of them. So I try to answer the ones that might be of some interest to more than just the one person asking, where possible.

If you send a note by the regular ASK function here on Tumblr, it’s easy to answer and others can read it and respond.

But if you use the ‘Send Fan Mail’ option, I can only answer you directly, which makes it less likely that I can answer it at all. Or, I can cut and paste, but then when I answer, it formats all creepy and is kind of a buttpain.

I would really appreciate it if people stuck to the ASK method, please, it makes it much more likely that I can get to your question.

Thank you!

Is there any chance of you coming to Denver Comic Con this year? I would love to go to ECCC but don't know how nice my new boss will be about me sneaking out to Seattle.

I’m afraid not…I think they asked me but I just could not make it fit time-wise. SORRY!
