Hi Gail~ I was wondering how you go about panel placement in your scripts. Do you put down exactly how you want the panels to go, or do you leave that to your artist?
I always write full, complete scripts, including suggestions for panel placement. HOWEVER, since most artists are a thousand times better at that than I will ever be, I always try to let them know they can change it up if they think of something better.
If an artist is someone I know and really trust, I will sometimes explain the effect I want on a page and ask their input on how best to choreograph the panel arrangement. But I have to have worked with them a while on that.
If an artist says, “this might work better,” I always listen UNLESS there is a specific effect we need that the artist might not be aware of yet.
The Machinations Of Mackley-Ward: Why I don't go Outside
This begins with me being cajoled into the purpose of “getting out” i.e. to navigate and get in the way of thousands of pedestrians and their, darting, loud children. I have a low battery and at this point, lower opinion of the general public.
Resigned, i mention desiring some shit i didn’t…
The shit you have to put up with, I swear. Amazing.
Well, you already know how highly I think of you regardless of the battery level. :)
Hey Gail, I've been thinking of Women in Refrigerators, and suddenly I've thought of Knockout. Having read secret six in one go, it really felt like she fit the trope-strong female character, dying seemingly without a fight, helpless and bloody, even if th
I don’t know, I didn’t write that story, but I think she was mainly killed because DC wanted to reboot the New Gods. It took FOREVER to get her back, had to scratch and claw forever!

I might have forgotten because I'm a Fake Nerd Boy™, but does Babs and Alysia's cat have a name? If not, I think I know what it should be. ;)
It’s Alaska, which is a little bit creepy because it’s the name of the cat James, Jr. killed when he was a kid!
Armageddon Wellington!
There is supposed to be some kind of vip cocktail party thing Friday, then three days of the convention. Really looking forward to it!
Who all is going to make it here?

hey gail, have you ever read any of the old ec horror comic titles (tales from the crypt, vault of horror, and haunt of fear)? if so, what do you think of them?
I love them, but even more than the horror EC comics, I love the other stuff they did, Shock SuspenseStories, the war stuff…immensely good comics, mostly, even after all this time!
Sometimes, to drive myself crazy, I wonder what comics would have been like all these years if not for the goddamn comics code.
Do you have a favorite character design? Mine is Cass as Batgirl!
I like that design, but I have two problems with it. I think it is a bit reminiscent of the Catwoman design from the Burton Batman films, and that was always on my mind, but the other is that it didn’t allow much in the way of facial expression—which works for some characters, but could be a storytelling problem with Cass, in particular.
I have a ton of designs I love, I love the basic Green Lantern outfits, I love I love Black Canary’s bop costume. Of my creations, I love the Joe Prado design for Black Alice.
If you could do any one thing in comics, what would it be? Alternately, if you could do anyone in comics, who would it be?
There are creator owned things I would like to do, for sure. And I’d love to write an actual romance comic. One of my big fun dreams is to do an inter-company crossover of some kind, I always found those a ton of fun.
Wouldn’t ‘do’ anyone in comics because I am happily married to my sweet baboo, @rocketspouse.
