Just found out Gail Simone is going to be at NC Comicon. I’m hoping I can get the money to drive down there, even if it’s just for a day!

TRY!

Would love to meet Misfit!

OH MY GOD, I HAD NO IDEA GAIL WAS GOING TO BE AT NC COMICON.

Guess I need to go visit my parents November 9-10 and get my planned Tremor costume together!

YES get your Tremor costume together!

Wait, did you write Gen13??? I loved that series! Even if it was confusing as all hell (not your fault. Wildstorm just did that sometimes). But what was the deal with Caitlin? her power was literally fanservice!

I wrote thirteen issues during the big Wildstorm relaunch…it was actually Wildstorm’s best-selling book at the time.

I love those characters, which is why I am glad to bring Rainmaker back.

hey gail, is it wrong that, while i agree that putting her in heels is almost always stupid for a number of reasons, that black canary looked effing awesome kicking ass in heels in the dc animated shows, specifically justice league unlimited and batman: th

I really try not to judge what people like, visually. Nothing I say is going to make any difference, and I’m not sure it should.

For me, having Canary in heels in the comics always felt wrong. She’s a good enough martial artist that she COULD wear heels (I walked the cobblestone streets of Bergen, Norway, with several tired and tipsy young women who never even stumbled despite very high heels). She COULD do it.

But it didn’t work for the character for me. I always figure that she wore them at one point in her career to honor her mom’s costume and then gave up on the idea as just being a bother.

But I don’t judge what people like for the most part, on costumes. My opinion is my own, based on my perception of the character.

Don’t know if I ever hated a comic more than that terrible Deathstroke-murders-Ryan thing.

Yep, still annoyed.

Once Walmart stops putting dumb sayings on their shirts with female comic book characters on them, I’ll actually buy them.
It’s also funny how there are NO HEELS visible on the shirt on the right. At least not that I saw. Some of them did have heels… IN THE 80’S.
Hm. I wonder who I contact to ask for a job designing their shirts…

Some of the shirts and stuff, I would buy in a minute, but I HATE the stuff they say. One really great Batgirl shirt had a picture of Batgirl, and the caption was MEeeeOOOw or something…they thought it was Catgirl.

Bleah.

And I don’t really want a shirt that says, “Boys drool!” or whatever, I don’t really think that’s a great message for these characters.

Gail, Jeannette is one of my all-time favourite characters! I gotta ask, what was your inspiration for her? And if you could have her back in the New 52, where would you place her (Solo series, team book, etc.) if you were the one to decide?

Hmm. Birds of Prey, maybe? I don’t see her in the Suicide Squad for some reason.

What happened was, Nicola was coming aboard Secret Six the ongoing series, and I wanted to add  a cool new female character. I think I had three ideas, all of which I liked.

One was a Thanagarian corrupt cop…this idea got mutated into Katharsis, later (without the Thanagarian part).

The other escapes my memory at the moment.

The one Nicola loved was Jeannette. So that’s who we went with.

There were so many vampires out there, I wanted a character that everyone THOUGHT was a vampire, but would turn out to be something else entirely.  I also wanted a character that felt more European…most all the DCU characters either come from somewhere fictional or from the USA.

That’s about all I remember… I may have been inspired to make her a banshee by a ghost tour I took last time I was in Dublin but I am not positive about that.
