Amazon Specifically Mentions Warnings Appearing on Product Pages
WARNING MESSAGES FOR KINDLE E-BOOKS
I posted more about this a few days ago:
https://chrismcmullen.wordpress.com/2016/01/31/warning-messages-for-errors-in-amazon-kindle-e-books/
The only direct evidence we have gleaned from Amazon is on their KDP help pages:
https://kdp.amazon.com/help?topicId=A1MMQ0JHRBEINX
This page appears to have updated in the past couple of days.
I and others had read this page carefully and thoroughly when we first noticed the updated KDP help page about a week ago.
But now there appears to be new information on the page:
“A moderate amount of Distracting or Destructive Issues can result in the book remaining available for sale, but with a temporary quality warning displayed on the detail page of the book on Amazon.com until corrections are made.”
There had been mention of Critical Issues previously, and there had been mention of possible removal of the book.
But there hadn’t been mention of Distracting or Destructive Issues. (I updated my post from a few…

Meet the Author: Tamie Dearen
It is my pleasure to feature author Tamie Dearen.
Tamie Dearen has been married to her very romantic husband since 1982. They have two beautiful daughters, two amazing sons-in-law, and one awesome grandson. She plays piano, flute, harmonica, keyboards, and guitar, and loves composing and art. And she hates housework. A dentist in private practice for thirty years, Tamie stays busy playing on her church’s praise team and teaching graduate students each week. In her spare time, she escapes to the world of books.
Tamie has eight books published, including a series of five in The Best Girls Series, one of which is on one special promotion just now. You can read an excerpt right here and buy it straight away.

Should you care about the bestseller list?
Well, duh, yeah. Every writer wants to see their name on that list.
But, it’s not as easy as writing your best story your family has ever read.
Each Sunday I enjoy reading the Arts Section of the newspaper. And the first page I turn to is the column where the New York Times Best Sellers are listed. I’m always looking to see who made the list. Is it one of my favorites? Is it a newcomer?
The same holds true for the Amazon.com Top 100 List. I love clicking through looking for a good read, when I have the time that is.
Have you given much thought to how a writer actually gets listed on the New York Times Best Seller List? Or The Wall Street Journal or makes the Amazon.com top 100?
Sell lots of books, make lots of $$$$ and voila! Right?
Well, that’s what I always…

“Marie’s Diary – The Introduction” – a new Kindle release from author G. R. Stone
New release from author G. R. Stone
I wanted to introduce this new release from another indie author, G. R. Stone. I’d like to preface ahead of time that this is a romance erotica genre story; I wanted to make sure folks were aware that it was an adult themed novella.
It is a self contained story; the first in a planned series of three.
It is now available for pre-order and it formally releases on February 12, 2016.
Marie’s Diary – The Introduction
FROM THE SYNOPSIS:
Marie Boxford is a forty-six-year-old, senior pharmaceutical representative, with her oldest in his final year of college and her youngest entering in the fall. She is facing the reality of her fading marriage and is working to come to terms with it. While she has a close group of friends to confide in, she is reluctant to divulge everything to any one of them, so she takes to putting down her thoughts in an online diary.
She works through her feelings at her half of the failure in her marriage, all the while coming more and more out her shell. She acknowledges her lack of emotional and physical response to sex, in her marriage and with her husband. She realizes, as her husband did, that what she wants and desires will likely need to come from someone else.
Ben Livingston is an everyday man; he is a single, white collar, professional who is just beginning a new relationship with a woman he works with, after exiting a recent, tumultuous, relationship. While navigating the Internet, he stumbles across the file share where Marie is storing her diary online.
As Marie begins the new chapters of her life, she is unaware that Ben has taken on the role of voyeur, taking vicarious pleasure by reading her entries.
This series is intended for mature audiences eighteen years and older.

How to make Goodreads giveaway widget work on WordPress.com
Have you tried and failed to include Goodreads Giveaway widget on your WordPress.com site? Have you tried reading forums, only to find that the reason for it is that Goodreads uses Java or whatever else WordPress.com doesn’t allow? Oh, good, so I’m not the only one…
I was so frustrated with this previously, that I created a work-around using an image widget. I was happy with that for a while, but the image suggested that only few people have requested my book, when in actuality it was 1,699 over 2 weeks! I have just started a new giveaway, and already over 350 people have requested a copy, in less than 15 hours!
So I found a different work-around. Cause I just don’t take “no” for an answer and cause I feel omni-potent, having learned the very basics of HTML. Also, probably, cause I’m Russian-born, and we’ve been known to fix space stations…

If your KENPC dropped with v2.0, what should you do?
This is a great breakdown of the service changes; #MustRead
Background image from ShutterStock.
RECENT CHANGES TO KENPC
(Please also take the survey at the bottom of this post, regarding how your KENPC has changed. You can view the results after you take the survey.)
As of February 1, 2016, Amazon changed the way that they calculate KENPC for pages read for KDP Select books borrowed through Kindle Unlimited and Amazon Prime.
To check your KENPC v2.0, go to your KDP Bookshelf and click the Promote & Advertise button.
According to Amazon, on average the change is within ± 5%, but some books are outside of 5% (I’ve heard a couple upwards of 30%).
Many authors are reporting the changes in their KENPC on Kindle Boards, the KDP community forum, and all over the internet.
I have several books, and most of mine are virtually unchanged.
But while I’ve heard from others whose KENPC remained the same, only a few…

Kindle Unlimited becomes less appealing to authors. Again.
This is a great post and the conversations in the comments are an equal “must read”.
So, this morning I woke up to the word on the street (aka Facebook), that once again, Amazon has made significant changes to the pay structure for Kindle Unlimited with no advance notice.
The short version: They’ve found another way to pay authors less
The long version:
The payout for books on Kindle Unlimited is calculated based on two factors.
The KENPC (which is the official Amazon calculated page count of your book), and the rate they pay per page read (which is currently 0.0046c per page).
So, for example a book with a KENPC (page count) of 100 pages would earn $0.46 if someone borrows and reads the whole book.
What Amazon have done, is change the way they calculate the KENPC. I’m not sure how this affects other books, but for mine – they have taken a significant cut in page count, and therefore will be taking a…

Kindle Unlimited: Is a borrow better/worse than a sale?
As an author who has some books enrolled in Kindle Unlimited. I often get asked questions by readers (and other authors) about KU and how it works from an author’s perspective. I may end up writing more than one post about KU, but today I’m answering the most common question I’ve been asked by readers, which is some variation of:
Which is better for the author a sale or a borrow?
Firstly I’d like to say that every author I know is always grateful for any sales/borrow/interest in their books. And readers who care enough to ask about which is best for the author, make me want to reach through the screen and give them a hug :) But seeing as more than one person has asked me this, I will break it down and give you an answer.
However, before I do that, I think I need to explain…
