Who Should be in an Exigency Movie?

Exigency movie

When I first began writing The Dig (years and years before it actually came out in early 2011), my visions for the characters’, both physical and personality-wise, came from specific people I either knew personally, or from movies/TV. As some of you know, Matt Turner was originally a 19-year-old, and so Ethan Embry from Can’t Hardly Wait fit perfectly. Nowadays, even with Matt aged up to 25, this might not be the best casting decision.   Tuni, originally 25, now 31 in The Dig, was my high school friend Paula Patton (who had yet to become famous). Flash forward more...

EXIGENCY Audiobook Announcement

exigency-2015-cover-jwhelan

A couple days ago, I mentioned some HOLY $H!T news I’d received about the upcoming Exigency Audiobook Edition, and now I can share it with you. First, a little back story … For those who haven’t read Exigency, or who may not have caught on to some of the book’s underlying themes, I wrote the story with an odd rule in mind: With regard to gender decisions, whatever my initial instinct chose, I would do the opposite. By and large, the Science Fiction publishing world has an ongoing problem with sexism—from the stories told, to the business itself, awards, and...

Regarding USA TV’s new “Dig” show and my “The Dig” book.

USA's Dig vs. The Dig

Is the USA network’s new TV show “Dig” in any way related to Michael Siemsen’s The Dig (Book 1 of the Matt Turner Series)? In short, nope. In long, here’s a breakdown: This is the official brief description of the TV show: “Peter, an FBI agent stationed in Jerusalem who, while investigating a murder of a young female archaeologist, uncovers a conspiracy 2000 years in the making.” Peter is played by Draco Malfoy’s jerk dad, and Peter’s FBI boss is played by Anne Heche. (Spoiler, the two have sex in the first minute of the first episode.) The show takes...

4:00am, 3/3/15

IMG_4319.JPG

Street corners and entry steps unexpectedly populated with wide-awake citizens. The 24-hour Starbucks seems to double as a homeless shelter, its all-bar seating half-filled with sleepers, while the other half maintain a dazed stare in no particular direction. A young couple stands out with their darting eyes and skittish energy as one huddles in a corner behind a trashcan. The girl stands and watches him between suspicious backward glances, one hand stroking her opposite arm. They trade places, he dizzily passes items to her before he tips and finds a column to hold him up. Outside, a man on a...

Exigency 2nd Edition paperbacks are here, and Goodreads is giving them away for free.

Exigency by Michael Siemsen - 2nd Edition

That sweet sweet new Exigency cover can finally be ogled and caressed in real life, and Goodreads is giving away two of them. Winners will receive an autographed trade paperback (that’s the big, full-sized kind of paperback, if you weren’t aware; those little ones they used to sell on the spinny racks are called “mass market paperbacks”), as well as a free e-book copy in their preferred format (Kindle or ePub). You can enter through the Giveaways page (where the current giveaways always live), or save yourself a click and do the exact same thing right here: Goodreads Book Giveaway...

EXIGENCY 2nd Edition Released Today

Exigency by Michael Siemsen - 2nd Edition

Exigency 2nd Edition has been available for Kindle, Nook, iBooks, Kobo, etc. since December (replacing the 1st Edition), but the print version has been the original edition until today. This revised version is essentially the same as the 1st Edition, which had this cover:   Below is the list of differences between the 1st Edition and Exigency 2nd Edition: New front and back covers (at the top of this post) with art by Andreas Raninger and Matthias de Muylder, respectively. A few mildly embarrassing typos corrected. The original version ended with Chapter 3.9, followed by an Epilogue. The 2nd Edition...

RETURN: Book Three of the Matt Turner Series update

Woe is I. It is with heavy typing fingers that I compose this post. Despite many a pitfall and unavoidable mishap, I had hoped to release Return before Christmas, but alas, it will not be so. While the final draft is near complete, and my last-minute substitute editor has been making decent progress, the book is definitely not in a condition I’m ready to hand over to all you lovely people. Further, while I’d love to be able to announce a firm new release date, that would be the 4th firm release date announced for this book in the past...
