Ernesto Aloia, come molti altri, ha cominciato a scrivere poesie a vent’anni. Poi è passato alla narrativa: dapprima inizi di racconti, poi mezzi racconti, poi finali di racconti. Infine, il primo racconto intero. Si intitolava «Nel cortile in un angolo d’ombra» e lo pubblicò Maltese Narrazioni. Era il 1995. Sul Maltese ha continuato a pubblicare, numero dopo numero. È entrato a far parte della redazione. Nel 2003 ha pubblicato Chi si ricorda di Peter Szoke? Nel 2006 ha raddoppiato con Sacra Fame dell’Oro. Entrambe le raccolte sono state pubblicate da minimum fax. Poi è passato al romanzo: nell'aprile 2007 è uscito per Rizzoli I compagni del fuoco.
