MYSTIC MAYHEM is a Humerous Cozy Mystery and I can't wait to read it :)

Mystic MayhemA Mystic Isle Mystery
Sally J. Smith and Jean Steffens
Humorous Cozy Mystery – Gemma Halliday Publishing

Melanie Hamilton is not your average artist. She brings home the bacon by inking tattoos at New Orleans's Mansion at Mystic Isle, a resort in the middle of the bayou that caters to fans of the peculiar and paranormal, but her true passion comes alive when she volunteers restoring Katrina-ravaged landmarks. Between her day job, her restoration work, and selling her paintings in Jackson Square, Mel's life is more hectic than Bourbon Street on Fat Tuesday. But when a guest of the resort, a millionaire's widow, is poisoned, and Melanie's close friend is arrested for the murder, things go from hectic to downright dangerous.
Mel joins forces with the resort's delish manager, Jack Stockton, to prove her friend's innocence. Soon they find themselves dealing with séances, secret passages, the ghost of the millionaire himself, gators, swamp rats, and a sinister killer who proves that not everything is what it seems in the Louisiana bayou.

Come on along, and get your creep on.

The Inspiration for our Mystic Isle Series
The Magic Castle in the hills above Hollywood Boulevard is the headquarters and private clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts, Inc., a worldwide organization devoted to the art of magic. Its membership consists of magicians as well as those who just love magic. If you ever have the chance to go there, DO. It’s mysterious, haunting, spellbinding, and a little creepy.
The Magic Castle was the inspiration for Mystic Isle Mysteries, our new series debuting September 15th from Gemma Halliday Publishing. Our series takes place in the bayou near New Orleans, Louisiana on Mystic Isle where The Mansion at Mystic Isle is now open and taking guests. It’s a place similar to the Magic Castle only Mystic Isle is dedicated to all that’s magical and paranormal. Its guests experience the skills of magicians, mediums, fortunetellers, astrologers, and much more. Of course, none of it is real—or is it?

Excerpt:
The Mansion at Mystic Isle was where Cat and I worked. Located in Jefferson Parish across the Mississippi from New Orleans at the edge of a bayou, the main building was an old plantation house set among cypress trees and expansive green lawns. It had been handed down through the Villars family for centuries. Not all that long ago, Harry Villars, the down-on-his-luck, but no less genteel and stylish owner, had the brilliant idea to turn his liability into an asset by repurposing the place into a resort where folks dedicated to the supernatural and all kinds of magic could come and get their creep on. The Mansion was decorated like the haunted house we've all seen at that theme park—you know the one. Ours was similar—creepy organ music when you crossed the threshold, drafty hallways, creaky doors, secret passages, even fake cobwebs. The whole shebang, chere. Harry Villars sank every cent he had into it and crossed his fingers that the place would raise him to the ranks of the solvent—then he hired all of us, a complete cast of soothsayers and charlatans, to convince hotel guests the supernatural stuff that went on at The Mansion was the real deal. But just between you, me, and the gators, it's not.

It's All About the Book with @StevendoSantos and DAGGER @evernightteen

Today we have Steven dos Santos with us today interviewing and ...It’s All About the Book…
* Please tell us about your current or upcoming release. (Title & Blurb)My New Novel is called DAGGER, a Young Adult Paranormal Espionage Adventure. Here’s the blurb:

When Ultimate Evil engulfs the entire world, only Dagger can pierce the Darkness—even if the Apocalypse falls on a school night!

Dagger Beaumont is a High School senior who’s been recruited by D.U.S.T.—a covert governmental organization dedicated to battling supernatural terrorism all over the globe.

However, Dagger’s unresolved conflict over his missing brother could be his undoing, as he races around the world battling the Dark Reich, a diabolical organization on a quest to possess an ancient artifact and unleash a mystical plague to enslave humanity. If that weren't treacherous enough, Dagger must juggle his life as a secret agent with his social life, where he faces romantic rivalry for the guy of his dreams, a mysterious and handsome new student at his haunted boarding school.

But in a high-stakes world where nothing is as it seems, and death lurks in every shadow, love rides shotgun with survival!

* What is this book’s genre?  Is this the genre you usually write in?  Are there any genres you haven’t written that you’d like to try?
This book is a mash-up of different genres. It’s paranormal, espionage/spy, urban fantasy, romance, and adventure all rolled into one. The genre I’m most interested in trying next is horror! I’d love to genuinely scare people!
* What inspired you to write this book?
My inspiration for DAGGER was definitely my love for shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alias & 24, as well as the James Bond movies. DAGGER is my homage to these favorites!
* How did you pick its title?  Did it come first or did you have to write the story first?
I decided from the get go that DAGGER was going to be the name of the book, as it’s the protagonist’s name and conveys a sense of mystery.
* How did you create your characters?  Did you use any real life people in their making?
I didn’t really base the characters in DAGGER on anyone I know. If anything, I wanted to create a slick, charming, witty gay action hero who can kick ass along with the very best of them.

* Who is your favorite character of this book and why?
I would definitely say that DAGGER is my favorite. I loved writing his character. It gave me a chance to flex my comedic skills, coming up with his one-liners and witty back and forth bantering with villains, which is one of the things I adore about characters like Buffy Summers, the Winchester Brothers, and Bond.
**What is your favorite part of this book?  Can you share an excerpt from that part?
I LOVE the opening of the book! It really sets up DAGGER’s world and the tone of the book. I knew I wanted to start things out with a bang and hook the reader from the first page. Here’s an excerpt:

I pulled the sheet down Reinaldo’s naked right hip, trying hard not to peek at what lay beyond. Why did he have to be so damn hot? Hey, I was a typical seventeen year-old guy, raging hormones and all that jazz. With one big difference.I had orders to terminate.Reinaldo lay sprawled beside me on the king-sized bed in our Parisian hotel suite, looking like the statue of David in a centerfold spread: jet-black curly hair, Roman nose, angular jaw, the chiseled body of a college gymnast. His biceps bulged, as did his pecs, which were lightly coated with hair that tapered into a trail leading down ridges of sculpted abs, past his pelvis, before disappearing into the tent under the sheets. As far as what was hidden, let’s just say all that rigorous exercise hadn’t stunted his growth. He was the first guy to tell me he loved me. And now he’d be the first guy I had to kill. The quintessential love-hate relationship. If there’s one thing I’d learned ever since my brother Phillipe’s supernatural disappearance, it was that love had no business in the world of occult espionage.Opening your heart was akin to opening your wrists.

* What was the hardest part of this book to write? Can you share an excerpt from that part?
I actually didn’t find any part of the book really hard to write. Sure, there were frustrating days when the words were elusive, but for the most part, writing this book was a very fun experience and a labor of love.
* Did you have any special rhythm or quirks while writing this?
I had a daily writing quota when I wrote DAGGER, which involved a minimum of 1,000 words a day, before I could reward myself with some kind of treat (going out to the movies, binge-watching a favorite show, etc.). Having a specific daily goal to accomplish really gave me an incentive, especially on those days where I was tired or the words wouldn’t flow.
* Is this a stand-alone book or is it part of a series?  If so, we want to hear about it and what’s next in the series.  If not a series, what comes next to be released?
I would definitely want write more DAGGER adventures! I envision an epic two-part adventure for the next installments and I’ve already begun plotting away. Hopefully, the readers will connect with DAGGER and want to see more of him and his friends/enemies!

If there’s one thing I’d learned ever since my brother Phillipe’s supernatural disappearance, it was that love had no business in the world of occult espionage.Opening your heart was akin to opening your wrists.I shifted closer, my face inches from his pelvis. Moving in, I smelled the freshly laundered linen, mixed with Reinaldo’s own musky athletic scent. I blinked my eyes three times, activating the infrared contact lenses I’d slipped on earlier, while Reinaldo’d slipped out of his clothes, after drinking the potion I’d slipped in his wine. Talk about a slippery slope. He didn’t look quite as sexy bathed in a green glow, more like Michelangelo’s boy with a serious case of gangrene. But the only part of Reinaldo’s body that truly mattered was the part no longer hidden by the sheet. The part that throbbed underneath the gaze of my infrared lenses. It was there, on his inner right thigh. The birthmark. My intel had been correct. It was so tiny I might not have ever seen it, even if we’d done the deed. What was it? Right?—no, left to zoom in. I blinked my left eye a few times enlarging the image. It was a symbol. A dragon inside a pyramid, its base parallel to another pyramid base facing the opposite direction and encasing some type of demon. Both of these were housed within a larger triangle.I squinted, flexing my brows. Snap! Snap! Snap! The photographic evidence of the mark uploaded via the lenses’ transmitter. These shades rocked. I’d have to give props to Felanie—if I made it out of this.I glanced back up at Reinaldo’s face. He looked so peaceful lying there, completely unaware he’d been duped. For a split second I almost felt sorry for him. Keywords split and almost. He’d more than duped me by pretending to be my boyfriend, until I’d found out he was a member of a sorcerist cell. Even so, the concept of terminating him sounded clinical and abstract when discussed in a cold, sterile briefing room, especially when I’d prepared months in advance, both physically and mentally, convincing myself it was for the greater good. With the target warm and curled up against me like a helpless pup, termination seemed more like murder. Orders be damned. Better to drug him and see if I could find it first before going down that road.I maneuvered my body across his sleeping form. When our skin touched, I broke out into goose flesh.Reinaldo stirred slightly.I held my breath, tensing every muscle. Then he stretched a sculpted bicep over his head, not a care in the world. My heart down-shifted.I reached over the side of the bed, past the ornately carved nightstand, and carefully rummaged through the pile of clothes Prince Charming had deposited on the lush, wine-colored rug. One black V-neck T-shirt with no pockets, the better to show off his massive chest. Skin-tight jeans that hugged his thick thighs and narrow waist contained nothing but empty pockets. A pair of size twelve flip-flops. Not much else.I’d already performed a sweep of the room. He had to have it on him.Wait a minute. The big silver belt buckle. Trendy. A good place for hiding a top-secret micro-chip embedded with an encryption key … stylish. I snatched it up, the metal feeling cold, even in my icy hands.I examined the buckle, a very butch affair, complete with some type of horned steer. At first I’d thought Reinaldo’d been going for a metrosexual country western look. But the horns reminded me of the ones on that birthmark nestled against his loins. My fingers explored the buckle’s surface, my thumbs pressing against every ridge. Nada. I’d have to improvise. Following my instincts, I pricked my thumb on the prong. A small trickle of blood bubbled forth. Kind of unconventional for espionage, I know, but it’s not like I worked for the CIA. As a matter of fact, I doubted even the CIA knew about us, that’s how high we were on the secret ladder. The Department of Unexplained Supernatural Terrorism. DUST. Saving the unsuspecting world from the criminal forces of the supernatural and the occult, one phenomenon at a time.I smeared the blood on the buckle’s surface, hoping the “offering” would activate the trigger point. Voila! The surface snapped open, revealing the microchip lying in the buckle’s womb. It amazed me the clout virgin blood carried in the occult world. Yes, technically, I was still a virgin, though hardly the poster boy for innocence at the moment.I sat up, carefully removed the dime sized-chip, and slipped it into the hidden slot in the waistband of my tighty-whities. Then I replaced the buckle’s face and dropped the pants back into the pile, just as the light came on. Two powerful arms encircled me from behind.

Naughty Excerpt:“What would you like to see first?” Maxwell's eyes resumed their fiery trail down my body.“How about that spanking bench?” I smiled, letting him lead the way. He led me to it and I leaned forward onto the padded seat, deliberately giving him a stellar view of my backside. Rachel was right about the dress. It was perfect. “Is this right?” I feigned ignorance, waggling my ass in the air.He moved behind me and as I arched my back in a provocative pose. He sucked in his breath. “Yes. I'd say that's just about perfect.” He pressed his erection against my ass, grinding it against me. I moaned deep in my throat, sure that this had to be some kind of dream. Moisture pooled in my slit and hunger clawing at my insides. A low keening growl escaped my lips and I froze. Bad zombie. He reached around and kissed me, his breath falling short as he took in the slight glow of my eyes.“Exactly.” He opened my mouth, sliding his tongue against mine, urging me to respond.I accepted the challenge, savoring his mouth. His scent was earthy and his essence made me want to devour him. He broke the kiss and leaned back, his gaze meeting mine.  “God, my palm itches to spank you,” he breathed, reaching for an errant curl that had fallen across my face. “You are intoxicating.”I took his hand and placed it on my breast, eager and more than ready. I turned in his arms and pushed my ass alongside the erection straining against his trousers. I imagined it inside me, pressing in even closer.“I want you,” I breathed. “Well then, there is just one little thing we need to remedy.” Maxwell's voice was low as he ran his hand in a light trail down my spine. “Really? What's that?” I shivered as his hand traced lines down my body.“The dress. It has to go.”“Ummm.” I lifted my arm and his hand found the zipper. As he slowly moved it down, the dress loosened and he pulled it over my head. Clad in the thong, lacy-topped black thigh-highs, and shiny black stilettos, the chill of the room had fine goosebumps erupting all over my skin. My nipples pebbled with the delicious blend of cold and desire and maybe just a little fear. This man could do anything to me and who was to say the woman in his pictures upstairs was even alive? The danger sped up my heart and made my juices flow.

The Horse List by Anna Lores

Welcome to my tour stop of The Horse List by Anna Lores.  This is a contemporary erotic romance novel.  The tour runs from August 31 to September 4.  Check out the tour schedule here.

This work contains mature content, including graphic sexual descriptions and scenes, and is provided for adults only.
Recently divorced from an abusive husband still intent to control her life, Ava Black has two weeks before she moves back to her conservative hometown to start her life over.
Encouraged by her best friend, she resurrects the wish list she started as a young girl when her number one desire was her very own horse. Over the years, The Horse List had become a mature list of her most erotic sexual fantasies and a symbol of her rebirth as an independent woman. She can complete some of the items alone, but not everything. She needs a sexually experienced partner with resources and the connections to places she’s only dreamed of going.
Could the handsome and wealthy artist Eric North be the partner she seeks? Will her drive to complete the list be enough to overcome her fear of him discovering the scars left from years of abuse? Will Eric protect her from her ex-husband, or will she go home with her unrequited love, Brady Ross, and give up her one chance to complete The Horse List?

EXCERPT
She moaned as everything wrong in her life faded into the background. She was in Eric’s world imagining those masculine hands lifting her up, slipping beneath her pants and... Crap. She was not doing that. She didn’t need a man screwing with her head again. Her hands trembled as she covered his hands with her own. “Not happening, Mr. North.” She pushed his hands away from her. It shouldn’t have been so hard to make her limbs move from her position, but it was. It was darn hard.
He stepped forward, blocking her from leaving as if he were protecting her. “It’s Mr. North now, Ava?”
The smooth, freshly-shaven skin of his cheek brushed up against her in a slow, sweeping arch from the curve of her neck to her cheek. He took her hands and held them over her head, pinning her against the cool, marble wall of the elevator.
“It is, Mr. North. Please call me Ms. Black.” Her voice was low and sexy and geez, it was a little shaky. She wasn’t a virgin. She shouldn’t be that nervous around a man. But, then again, he was nothing like any man she’d met before. He exuded charisma and power without even trying. He, so close to her, made her ache for things she knew she couldn’t have.
“But I like your first name, Ava. I like the way it rolls off my tongue when I say it…Ava.”
“This is inappropriate, Mr. North. You’re only going to give me a tattoo,” she said, barely getting her volume over a whisper.
Her blood burned in her veins from his close proximity, from his demanding hold on her. She needed air. She was going to faint from all the oxygen in the small space getting sucked into his fire.
“Ms. Black,” he stepped back and leaned his torso forward, gently pressing his forehead against hers. “If you think all I’m giving you is a tattoo, you’re as naïve as a child.”
She kept her eyes averted, readying for the lie she kept telling herself. “All I want is a tattoo, Eric. You seem to be the only person in a hundred mile radius that can give me one. I don’t want more from you.”
She ducked down, pulled out of his tender hold on her wrists, and slipped out of the elevator.
It wasn’t the most mature thing to do, but she sprinted at top speed through the door to her car to get as far away from him as possible, immediately recognizing the problem with the hot, demanding man. She wanted everything from him—sex, marriage, kids. That was never happening. Not in Compass, Illinois. Not with Eric North. Probably not ever if her ex-husband had anything to do with it.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Anna started writing romance as a by-product of insomnia. After a year of late night reading, she borrowed her son’s laptop after he went to bed each night, and set about breathing life to her very own characters. After a month of writing in the middle of the night, she was surprised with a new laptop of her own to pursue her dreams. With a B.A. in English Literature and a desire to fill her world with wonderful stories she and her close friends could not just talk about, but gush over, she shed her job as mom of three in the late night hours and assumed her alter ego of dirty girl.

It's All About the Book with Megan Gaudino

Today we're hosting Megan Gaudino and she's answering a slew of questions ... It's All About the Book !
- Please tell us about your current or upcoming release.
Always Kiss Me Goodnight
Sophia Destino is supposed to die.

All seventeen-year-old Sophia wants is to coast through her junior year. But with her parents obsessed with her Olympic-swimming-hopeful brother, a psychic best friend with a penchant for reading tarot cards, and prophetic dreams that predict her death—that won’t be easy. As her nightmares begin to come true, Sophia finds herself dodging death and longing for the time when getting over her ex-boyfriend was her biggest problem. Until she meets Leo Knight. The mysterious stranger seems determined to keep her alive—and steal her heart. But Leo has a secret that is about to change everything and Sophia is about to learn that sometimes…your number is up

- What is this book’s genre?  Is this the genre you usually write in?  Are there any genre’s you haven’t written that you’d like to try?
Always Kiss Me Goodnight is paranormal. It was my first attempt at paranormal and before Always Kiss Me Goodnight I only wrote contemporary so it was a change for me. However, I’ve always loved reading paranormal. So while it was an adventure in writing it was also kind of natural because I’m such a lover of the genre. I’ve never written anything sci-fi and it would be so fun to give it a try but I do think it’d be very difficult too.

-What inspired you to write this book?
I wrote this book during a time in my life that was full of changes. Because of that I was very much inspired by the idea of fate. Is fate predetermined or is it something that is changed with every single choice we make? This was a question I had running through my mind while I was writing my story and that idea gets explored.

- How did you pick its title?  Did it come first or did you have to write the story first?
The title came after I had written a few chapters. At first thinking of a title seemed impossible and was usually something I did after the story was finished but I had a sign hanging above my desk that said Always Kiss Me Goodnight and one day it just hit me that that should be the title of my book. I used it for a few days, loved how it sounded, and kept it!

- How did you create your characters?  Did you use any real life people in their making?
After I get the idea for the plot of my story I like to make character lists. They are usually just quick bullet points of things like physical features, astrological sign, or any quirks they might have, then while I’m writing they just seem to come alive and how they speak and act is clearer. Not one character in the book is entirely based on one real life person I know but every single character does or says something because I was influenced by my family and friends. That’s what makes writing so great, you can take the great things about the people in your life and put them on the page for others to read.

- Who is your favorite character of this book and why?
This is a tough one! But, I’m going to say Amelia, our MC Sophia’s best friend. Amelia is quirky, she’s always checking all the auras in the room and cleanses them if necessary and she’s also psychic. If you want your tarot cards read, Amelia is your girl. She can be over protective and even a little pushy but it’s only because she knows what’s best for her friends because of all her abilities. Amelia is definitely someone to have on your good side.

- What is your favorite part of this book?  Can you share an excerpt from that part?
I like the scene that happens right after the second attempt is made on Sophia’s life. She almost drowns in her swimming pool but at the last second Leo saves her and then after they share a great moment together where Sophia starts to finally admit something out of this world is going on.

When we made it to the living room Hercules began lapping up the puddles of water we left behind us. Leo yanked the gray blanket off of the armchair and wrapped it around me because I was suddenly shaking. He moved a salt stone lamp out of his way and sat on top of the coffee table, motionlessly taking in my expression. Before he even spoke I just knew he was reading me all wrong. I felt like I could read him already too.“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, Sophia,” he groaned.“For what? My idiotic carelessness or that you saved my life once again? You shouldn’t be sorry about either of those things.”“I shouldn’t have let that happen. I shouldn’t have been sleeping still. I promised you I’d protect you and look what happened. Do you have any idea how close you were to dying? Even closer than you were last night. If I was just one second later I would’ve been too late.”“I know. I was there. But you weren’t too late. It’s all over now—I’m fine.” He put his head in his hands and scrunched his hair in his palms. “Leo.” I reached forward and placed my hand on his arm. He was still so hot to the touch. “Why’s your skin so hot again?”He flinched away from my hand, stood up, folded his arms across his chest and turned his back to me. His reaction made me question my gesture.“It’ll go away.”“Yeah but why does it happen at all?”He hesitated for just a moment before he answered. “Because I keep saving your life.”“I thought angels are supposed to save lives.”“I already told you. I’m not an angel. I’m not supposed to save lives.”

 - What was the hardest part of this book to write? Can you share an excerpt from that part?
Because this book involves Guardians of Fate, which is something no one has known about before this story, I feel like I had a lot of explaining to do. So for me, any scene involving breaking down who the guardians are and what they do, was difficult for me.
I was starting to understand why Mya appeared to be the head of this household. I might not understand everything about talents, but the ability to create weather seemed pretty damn impressive to me.
“What about you?” I nudged Leo’s elbow with mine.
“I don’t have one, either.” He kept his eyes down.
“That’s not true,” Tera said.
There was a thud under the table and Tera protested with an “ouch.” I thought maybe Leo kicked her under the table, but Tera turned her glowering stare toward Mya. I decided I would wait to talk to Leo about his talent again when we were in private.
“Does your talent have anything to do with where you are on the hierarchy?” I asked.
Tera dropped her fork and it made a loud clatter when it hit the stone tabletop. Everyone turned to look at her but she was sneering at me and Leo back and forth like she was watching a tennis match.
“You told herabout the order?” She pointed at me, letting me know just how she felt about that. Even the word her was filled with disgust because it was referring to me.
“I did,” Leo shook his head and remained calm, “a little. Like I said, there were more important things to do than talk about me.”
Tera picked up her plate and walked back into the kitchen very purposefully. Hex was still eating. She didn’t seem bothered by the exchange like it was a common occurrence and Mya seemed to be searching for the right thing to say. Leo took another piece of ham off the platter and began eating it.
“I’m really sorry. I didn’t know it was a sensitive topic.”
“Of course you didn’t and it isn’t that sensitive of a topic. It’s just—”
“Everything is sensitive to Tera. Don’t let her bother you.” Leo used his thumb to brush a piece of hair out of my eyes.
“Our orders do mean a lot to us, though,” Mya went on, “in this house we’re all in the second hierarchy. Hex and Tera are in the first order, Leo is in the second, and I’m a part of the third, the last before I move up to the first hierarchy.”

- Did you have any special rhythm or quirks while writing this?
I was completely obsessed! If I would’ve had a rhythm it would’ve been a much better way to write but instead I’d either write for hours on end or take week long breaks. Writing Always Kiss Me Goodnight took me several years but a lot of that time was spent on breaks because I’d burned myself out during my obsession periods. Finding a solid rhythm is something I’m still working toward as I gear up for the sequel in the series.

- Is this a stand-alone book or is it part of a series?  If so, we want to hear about it and what’s next in the series.  If not a series, what comes next to be released?
It is a trilogy so there are two more books after Always Kiss Me Goodnight. When we leave Sophia at the end of the story she’s in a pretty tough situation and the next book will pick up right where we left off. The readers will get to explore what it means to be a guardian more deeply and some of the more minor characters will become very important in the next installments. You can definitely expect a ton more mystery and secrets as well as the romance between Sophia and Leo heating up!

A Few of the authors from the Bad Alpha Anthologies are taking over today !!! #giveaway

What is your favorite thing about being an author???

Nicola Cameron:
Considering that I’m sitting here at 3:09 PM in a towel, having just taken a shower after spending the morning doing promo work and vacuuming, and that I’ll be writing as soon as I finish guest post this well into the evening, I would have to say that my favorite thing about being an author is that it’s a job where you can make your own hours. As long as you make word quota, it doesn’t matter when you do it – 4 AM, around lunchtime, in the evenings, whenever.
Which is good because I, like many others in the writing dodge, suffer from insomnia. I love the idea of getting up with the sun and working in the quiet hours of dawn (oh, who am I kidding? I live with a husband and five cats, one of whom meows almost constantly and another who likes to fight with the two other girls. There is no such thing as quiet in my house), but that just doesn’t work out 99% of the time. So I sleep when I can finally lure my brain to turn off, and write whenever I’m awake, and try to juggle everything else in whatever time remains.
Granted, good reviews and positive email from readers are always extremely nice (and very welcome). And then there are the wonderfully unexpected compliments, like the one I got after officiating at my best friend’s wedding last weekend. After the ceremony I was sitting with my sister and brother-in-law, a friend who’s also a writer and his daughter, and two other folks when a woman came up to our table and started raving about one of my books (turns out BFF had been promoting my work to her), asking if there would be another one on the way. After thanking her I said I’d definitely have more books out soon. Beaming, she promised she’d buy them, then headed back to her own table.
I turned back to see my sister, BIL and writer friend staring at me like I've just grown another head. They knew I was a writer – they just didn’t know I had readers, too.
"It's nice to have fans," my friend said wryly. I just grinned and shrugged. A little external validation is a good thing.

BOOK PROMO
Since I’m pretty sure someone will have already covered BA:ME, the book I want to promote is my brand spankin’ new MMF fantasy erotic romance Deep Water (Olympic Cove #3) from Evernight Publishing.
DEEP WATER (Olympic Cove 3) by Nicola Cameron (MMF, M/M)
Olympic Cove -- home of Greek gods, accidental disciples, handsome mermen, and all the snark you can handle -- gets a new resident in the form of Griffin Moore, a British marine biologist with a terrible secret. But Griffin's hopes for a peaceful last vacation evaporate when he learns that he's the reincarnated lost mate of none other than Poseidon, God of the Sea. Can Poseidon stop the deadly killer inside Griffin's brain, or is he destined to lose his agapetos yet again?
Author Bio
Nicola Cameron is a married woman of a certain age who really likes writing about sex. When not writing about sex, she likes to knit. And she may be rather fond of absinthe. Well, it’s true!
Okay, okay, the full version: Nicola Cameron has had a healthy interest in sex since puberty, but it wasn’t until 2012 that she decided to write about it. Turns out that the skills picked up during her SF writing career transfer rather nicely to erotic romance and erotica — who knew?

Doris O'Connor:
You know, I still have to pinch myself sometimes, when I get an e-mail from a reader, or I see my name in print. Every new contract that I sign, every release day, I still get incredibly excited, just like I did with the first one. Perhaps more excited, because I know the process now, and the whole thing is less overwhelming, if no less bunny hop inducing. That’s always me, on release day, bouncing around like an overexcited bunny JOf course release day is the culmination of a long process. From that very first germ of an idea that makes my muse sit up and go Ooooh, now then… to opening that blank word document, tapping away, chuckling, sniffing, despairing with my ornery characters, until you type the two magic words The End.Then the editing process starts, sending it to betas, implementing their suggestions, and sending it off to the publisher. Then the inevitable inbox stalking for what hopefully will be a “We would be pleased to publish…” e-mail. Then, more stalking, cover art, edits, until finally the day arrives and this particular literary baby is out on its own in the big wide world.  For me every new story is another birth. Some are far easier to birth than others, and with some I seem to be pregnant for ever. Just like with my children, however, it’s all worth it in the end, and I’m always more than ready to do it all again JTelling my characters’ stories is a privilege, and one that I never take for granted. Knowing that my readers enjoy reading those stories is just the icing on the cake. I always say, if I never got published again, I would still be writing. I get twitchy, when I haven’t managed to write for a few days, and heaven forbid my muse takes a holiday, and the voices in my head stay silent. That’s a far too disconcerting feeling. Fortunately it never takes long for another hero to start growling in my ears, or as was the case in this Anthology call, two heroes. Two yummy, dominant men, as tough and dangerous as each other… yeah I had fun with that. In fact this baby was one of my easiest to create, as Quinton and Zayden were such strong voices in my head. And that process, the creation and telling of their stories…that is the greatest joy of being an Author. J

Moira Callahan:  Creating a character that my readers adore, and want to have for their very own. So much so that they actually have to create a schedule amongst themselves to “share” the character. Always makes me smile to know I was able to create someone that they would welcome into their home with open arms.
I won’t mention what else they may, or may not have been planning for the characters…

Moira Callahan Bio
Moira Callahan is a Canadian born and raised author. She loves to write, and only has a few select criteria that have to be in each of her books. A great story, steamy romance, and a HEA ending. The sub-genre isn’t as important to her as making whatever she writes feel real, and in the moment to her readers.
To that end she insists her characters be as real as everyday folks, even if they are blessed with a little fictional fairy dust to make them anyone’s personal fantasy. They must have faults, they must have a weakness, and they must have soul. To that end she writes her characters with a mixture of traits – a dash from herself, and something borrowed from a friend. This way the character is as perfectly imperfect as any other person on the planet.

Jocelyn Dex:My favorite thing about being a writer is the freedom. What is this freedom, you ask? It’s the freedom to temporarily escape the trials and tribulations of the real world and get lost in an imaginary one where I get to make the rules. The freedom to get out of my head and get lost in my characters' minds. The freedom to make decisions where I don't have to worry about the consequences--only my characters do. Now, I’m not saying that I NEED to escape from real life. It’s just a lot of fun!
BioJocelyn writes paranormal and contemporary romances that include humor, lust, love, and four-letter words on the way to a Happily-Ever-After.

Guest Authors: Melissa Frost and Diana Stager with Summer Crush Anthology

Today we have two of Summer Crush's authors  Please welcome guest posts from Melissa Frost and Diana Stager  *   *   *   *   *Melissa Frost
Where My Pen Name Came From – For my young adult titles, I wanted to use a pen name to separate them from my more adult works. It was something I deliberated over for quite a while. If I was going to write under another name, I wanted something I still felt an attachment to. I’d thought of using my maiden name, as my mother always said she wanted to see that name on a book cover because I’d been writing since I was very young. My maiden name seemed hard to remember, though. In the end, I went with something very special to me – my son’s middle name. So when you see Melissa Frost on the cover of my stories, it is in honor of my little prince, Marshall Frost Hosack. It is a name that definitely holds meaning for me and makes me smile every time I see it. I don’t think I could have picked a better name!
Here is a little bit about my story, Forbidden, which is featured in the Summer Crush Anthology (under the name Melissa Frost): The new guy in town has a bad reputation and a bad boy demeanor to go with it. Even so, Olivia can’t help feeling drawn to Gavin. Can she convince her mother he’s not the delinquent everyone believes, or will his past tear them apart?
Excerpt:  “Looks like you could use some help.”
Olivia gave a yelp of surprise and spun toward the yard behind her where the voice had come from. Through the dim lighting from the house’s front porch, she could see a dark figure leaning up against the porch’s railing.
The person pushed away from the railing and started in her direction. Taking a nervous step backward, she spoke to the approaching stranger. “I-I’m fine. Really.” Her mother had taught her to be cautious around strangers, and it was a lesson she wouldn’t soon forget.
“You don’t look fine.” The person stepped into the light from the street lamp, and Gavin Meyers came into view. She didn’t know if she should feel relieved it wasn’t a strange adult or frightened that it was the troubled teen who already made her nervous.
“I … I …”
Gavin sent her a dry look and crossed his arms over his broad chest. “You want me to change that tire or not?”
Oliva hesitated. She wasn’t sure why. He hadn’t done anything but offer to change her tire. Still, his reputation made her nervous. He’d brought a weapon into a fight. He was dangerous.
With a sigh of annoyance, he moved forward and dropped to a crouch next to her blown tire. “Do you have a spare?”
She bobbed her head. Then, realizing he couldn’t see her, she said, “Y-Yeah. In the trunk.”
He climbed to his feet and made his way back to the trunk. Smacking his hand against it, he said, “Pop it for me.”
Doing as he’d asked, she watched warily as he tugged out the spare tire and the jack. She wasn’t sure why he was helping her, or what he expected in return. That last concern had her extremely on edge.
Leaving the trunk open, he made his way back over to the rear tire and began jacking the car up off the ground. “Let me guess,” he said, voice conversational. “You heard what a bad dude I was, and you’re too much of a conformist to form your own opinion. The way rumors spread and multiply in small towns, I wouldn’t doubt if you thought I killed someone.”
As he spoke, he began loosening the bolts on her tire. “Do I about have it right?” He looked up with an amused grin before returning to the tire. When she didn’t answer, he continued. “Bet I could peg you easily enough, too. Captain of the cheerleading squad, everyone loves you, and you have a whole flock of preppy boys following you around drooling at your feet. In a nut shell, your life is so damn perfect.”
Olivia scowled, not liking him turning things around on her. She was vice-captain, not captain. And her Biology teacher last year hadn’t seemed to care for her much if her B- was any indication. “You don’t know me,” she said darkly.
“And you don’t know me.”
Author Bio:
Melissa grew up loving young adult novels and continues to immerse herself in the current authors on the market. In the fifth grade, she won a writing competition to work with children’s author Colleen O'Shaughnessy Mckenna, and it inspired her to write stories of her own. She never looked back.

Don’t judge someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes. I’m not sure where the saying came from but I think most people have heard it. The sentiment is relevant to so many situations and that’s partly what inspired me to write Taking the Plunge about a teenage mom. Though I have not walked in those shoes, I’ve known others who have and I’ve seen the way they are treated. People make assumptions all the time without ever knowing the full story. Jessica, the heroine of my story, finds out how people judge her from the moment she gets pregnant. Her parents assume she’s a sinner; the women in the swim class think she’s trying to scam the system; even the hero makes the mistake of presuming too much. Jess hasn’t had an easy time of it but she’s doing the best she can while struggling against what other people think of her. I wanted to create a story that was realistic, with realistic characters facing everyday challenges. A teen mom isn’t your typical protagonist. In fact, many readers probably won’t be able to identify with her. But telling this story gives the reader a chance to walk in those shoes and maybe understand the world a little better.Everyone deserves a happy ending.
Blurb

Overwhelmed and alone, Jessica is a teenage mother struggling to give her son the best possible life. Erik, a lifeguard at the local pool, never expected the girl of his dreams to have baby in tow. They have issues, but will it keep them from pursing the relationship, or are they willing to take the plunge?

ExcerptThe smell of chlorine was giving me a headache. Too late, I remembered why I hadn’t been to an indoor pool in years. I hovered at the side of the pool with Emmett clinging to me as his gaze darted around. I’d never taken him swimming before so the whole experience was new for him. We had to wait while the classes ahead of ours finished up and there was a small group of women standing near me, each with a child clutched in her arms. Glancing at the other moms, I guessed that the one closest to my age was still around ten years older than me. One woman looked almost old enough to be my mother. Assuming she’d had me at the same age I was now. That made me stop for a moment. When I was thirty-four, I’d have a seventeen year-old at home. A seventeen year old who would be well schooled in birth control because I damn well would not be a grandmother before I turned forty at least. The oldest mom looked me up and down and then turned away in disgust. Two of the others were eyeing me and whispering. The knot in my chest tightened and I wondered if I should just leave, but before I could make a decision, the current occupants of the pool started to exit in droves. Maybe I could just follow them out. Just as I was about to turn away, I saw him.He strode toward me with the most adorable lopsided grin, his wiry arms clutching a clipboard to his chest. His muscular, hairless chest. I glanced away as heat flared throughout my body and my cheeks burned. “Hi ladies.” Oh God, even his voice was sexy. “My name is Erik and I’ll be your instructor for Moms and Tots Swimming. I just have to take attendance and then we can get those munchkins into the pool.” He started to rhyme off names and I gave a feeble wave when he called mine. Then he set the clipboard down and led us down the pool ramp and into a shallow pool just off the main one. The water was warm, but it still helped to cool me off, especially since I had to focus on not letting my kid drown. We gathered in a circle and he led us through a couple rounds of “The Wheels On The Bus” punctuated by blowing bubbles into the water and babies crying. I got a perverse thrill from watching the lady who’d been giving me dirty looks try to wrestle her screaming child into the water. Emmett was smiling and gurgling his happy little baby sounds. Score one for the teen mom. As we played around, I continued to shoot glances at Erik. And I could have sworn he was checking me out, too. It had been a long time since I’d gotten any attention from a guy and remembering the last time brought me down like a lead balloon. After that I tried to ignore Erik and the way my insides fluttered whenever our eyes met. Fluttering insides led to trouble.
BioDiana has been telling stories all her life and she finally figured out how to get them on paper after her education, family, and career pushed those writing dreams to the backburner. She lives in southern Ontario with her husband, 2 kids, and 2 fur babies.

Welcome to Summer Crush Authors Sasha Hibbs & SD Wasley

Super thrilled to have two of the many fantastic authors from Evernight Teen with us today !!!
Sasha Hibbs and S.D. Wasleyhave volunteered a blurb & excerpt from their stories in the Summer Crush Anthology
*   *   *   *   *
Sutton Summer by Sasha Hibbs After losing her mom to a lengthy battle with breast cancer, seventeen-year-old McKenzie Westfall finds herself carted off to Sutton Lake every summer to stay with her Aunt Jenny while her contractor father works out of state.

The problem? The lake was willed to McKenzie’s aunt and her mother after her grandfather passed away and everything about the lake reminds her of what she doesn't have anymore: her mother, her own life and the geeky kid, Dylan Blake, whose heart McKenzie broke last year.  Sutton Summer puts McKenzie on the journey of self-discovery where she must find forgiveness from within before she can find love with a boy who’s not the geeky kid anymore. Returning to the lake for a fourth season, McKenzie’s surprised to find a new guy working the boat docks and rentals. He’s tall, tan and gorgeous. But McKenzie’s in for the surprise of her life when she discovers the new guy is none other than Dylan Blake all grown up. With the acne, braces, and telescope-sized glasses gone, does the heart that used to beat for McKenzie remain?
Full of tenderness, heartache and a dawning realization that beauty goes beyond the surface, Sutton Summer, packs an emotional punch where McKenzie and Dylan will never be the same. As McKenzie still grieves the loss of her mother and realizes love was in front of her the entire time, will the boy at the lake find it in his heart to forgive her?

Excerpt: Wiping off the counter, McKenzie caught a glimpse of Abigail sashaying up to Dylan’s counter. McKenzie looked away as Abigail was planting a kiss on him. She could deal with it, but she wasn’t going out of her way to watch it any more than necessary. A thought pricked her in the mind. Would’ve Abigail been this interested in Dylan last year as what she seemed to be this summer? But then that rational voice grabbed hold of McKenzie, the one she didn’t like to hear. It told her that she was no different. She looked at Abigail and couldn’t help but feel how shallow she was, but then again, McKenzie had been no better. Funny how things could change so drastically in the course of one year, inside and out.
“Hey, Kenz?” McKenzie’s head snapped up in Dylan’s direction. He hadn’t called her by that nickname since last summer, pre-disaster.
“Yes?”
“Cover for me? Ten minutes?” Dylan asked, hopping over the counter in an all too cool way landing perfectly on the other side.
As McKenzie watched Dylan swoop up a squealing red bikini clad Abigail, she answered, “Yep.”Dylan’s side of the office was vacant, all the boaters that were going to rent already had for the day. But as she watched Dylan and Abigail run down to the shore and jump into the lake, McKenzie’s line was stacking up.
Ten minutes her butt! While Dylan and Abigail were frolicking in the lake, McKenzie spent the last forty five minutes serving Skittles, nachos, and coke to a line of hungry kids. From across the counter she heard Dylan’s phone ring.
Maybe it was her Aunt Jenny.
McKenzie ran through the door over to Dylan’s side. Snatching the phone up, she recognized her Aunt Jenny’s number flash across.
“Hello,” McKenzie said. “Hello….”
Shoot! She’d just missed her. McKenzie slid the off button to get to the home screen to call her back when she froze in place.
McKenzie stood there, paralyzed by the image on Dylan’s home screen flashing up at her.It couldn’t be….
After all her painful words, ones she’d regretted since they slipped off her tongue, Dylan still kept the picture of her he took all those long months ago.
Shaking herself out of her stupor, McKenzie quickly laid his phone down and ran back to her side of the office.
Her mind was racing. What could that mean? Did Dylan still care for her? In that way? Did he feel the way about McKenzie as he apparently felt about Abigail? Why else would he have saved her picture? Was there hope?

About the Author By age 5, Sasha Hibbs' favorite movie was Gone With the Wind. By age 12, she completed her 7th grade book report on the sequel, Scarlett. By 18, she met and married her very own Mr. Rhett Butler and as it turns out, she never had to worry about going back to Tara to win the love of her life back. Fortunately, he stuck with her.

With a love of all things paranormal, the ambiance of the South with its gigantic antebellum mansions and canopies of Spanish moss, and a love for her husband's rich storytelling of blacksmiths and the mythology surrounding their origins, it wasn't long until the world of her debut novel, Black Amaranth, was born.

When not working her day job as a nurse, you can find Sasha dreaming of her next beach trip, reading the latest YA novel, and drinking more white chocolate mocha than she should.

Sasha lives in mountainous West Virginia with her husband, Tim, and their two daughters. She is currently hard at work on her next novel.

Exquisite Torture by S.D. Wasley
16 year old Ryan can’t believe his bad luck. He’s stuck at his Gran’s house in a tiny deadbeat town for the entire summer, while his parents celebrate their anniversary in France. What’s worse, there’s no internet and his phone won’t get a signal. And he’d thought torture was illegal.
But things don’t seem quite as bad when he runs into gorgeous, vintage-styled Connie with the fabulous 1950s Schwinn Cruiser bicycle. The only thing Ryan doesn’t understand is why this girl is so cagey about where she lives—and so reluctant to meet his Gran. Is there something more to Connie than he first thought?

Excerpt:
Gran lived in a tiny backwater in a landlocked area: no beaches, no water sports, and no bikinis. My parents put me on a bus the morning before they jetted off to Paris. I had every piece of technology I owned in my bag. My tablet, my laptop, my game station, my mp3 player, and my smartphone. I knew exactly how boring this “vacation” was going to be, so I was prepared.Gran met me at the bus station, standing under the shelter looking tiny and a bit frail. I didn’t remember her being so small. I towered over her when I stepped out and gave her a hug.“Oh, Ryan,” she said, smiling up at me. “You’re all grown up!”We climbed into her ancient car. The passenger seat was damp and when I commented on it she just laughed and said the window didn’t wind up properly anymore so the rain came in on that side. It smelled kind of moldy too, so I tried to sit on as small an area of the seat as possible for the ride to her house. Then I got a butt cramp from leaning on one side.On the way to Gran’s we passed the old stone church my dad had mentioned. I was surprised to see a blond-haired girl in the churchyard, examining a headstone. I thought everyone in this town was old. She wore red short-shorts and a shirt knotted at the waist, and had gorgeous long brown legs. When she turned to look at the car as we passed, I saw she was really pretty, in an old fashioned kind of way, with soft curls of hair around her face. Okay, that was good news for me.“Who was that, Gran?” I asked. “In the churchyard?”“I didn’t see anyone,” said Gran, trying to avoid some sheep that had wandered onto the road.“There was a girl about my age back there. Blond. Red shorts.”“I can’t think who that might have been. Sometimes tourists pass through in the summer and stay a night or two in town.”Just passing through? Yep. Just my luck.

About the author:S.D. Wasley was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia. She has been composing literary works since before she could write – at five years of age she announced her first poem in the kitchen, improv-style. Today, she lives in a wine region with her two daughters, surrounded by dogs, cats and chickens.
S.D. Wasley wrote The Seventh, young adult paranormal novel released in January 2015, and the sequel, The Rift, is due out later this year. Exquisite Torture is her first romance publication.

S.D Wasley has also granted us a small guest post :)

I had a blast writing this story! I’ve never written pure romance before (well, not since high school), so it was a real novelty—although I couldn’t help letting a slightly supernatural element or two creep in. The best bit about this was during my own revision phase when I read it to my two daughters. My teenager hung on every word and laughed at every joke, and even squealed when the truth was revealed. My 9 year old made it to the first kiss, declared ‘ewwww’ and then left the room in horror! I guess I know who my target readership is.S.D. Wasley xx

Excerpt: She’d meant only to kiss him quickly, just enough to show him she could be crazy and unpredictable. But the second her lips touched his, something short-wired in her brain. Nothing mattered but getting more of him. Her lips parted beneath his, inviting him in. He groaned and pressed her closer, his tongue dancing with hers until her head swam. His hand trailed up her side, the plastic of her poncho crinkling as his thumb just brushed the side of her breast. She threw her head back, the touch setting her on fire. He kissed her exposed throat, nipping at the tender flesh beneath her ear. She arched against him, wanting more, wanting everything. And he seemed more than willing to accommodate.

Oh God, oh God, oh God, oh God. I’m kissing him. I’m not just kissing him, I am trying to suck his tonsils out and praying to God he’ll do the same to me.

Nathaniel’s hand gripped the back of Cherice’s neck, angling her face better so his tongue could delve deep into her mouth, exploring every inch.

Oh, yeah. Just like that. Oh God. What the hell am I doing? This is so wrong. Although. I’m single. He’s single. He can do whatever he wants. So can I. But do I want this? I don’t even know him. Oh God, I am making out with a guy I don’t even know. Does that make me a slut? What if he thinks I’m a slut?
He leaned farther back against the door, pulling her on top of him. His hand roamed over her butt, squeezing the trembling flesh, pressing it tighter against the hot, hard length of him.

Holy shit, I don’t even care. He can think whatever he wants as long as he does that again. “Cher.”

Hmm?” His lips trailed their way up her neck. “You’re thinking too hard.” His teeth grazed her chin. Pulled her earlobe into his mouth for a quick nip. She sucked in her breath, nearly sobbing at the sensation that shot straight to her groin.

“Am I?”

“Yes. You are. So tell yourself to shut up and just kiss me.”

“I can do that.”

“Good.”

Author Bio: Kira Archer resides in Pennsylvania with her husband, two kiddos, and far too many animals in the house. She tends to laugh at inappropriate moments, break all the rules she gives her kids (but only when they aren't looking), and would rather be reading a book than doing almost anything else. She has odd, eclectic tastes in just about everything and often lets her imagination run away with her. She loves a variety of genres and along with contemporary romances, she writes historicals as Michelle McLean.
