Author, author... Trevor by Krystal Shannan

Trevor
A MacLaughlin Family Novella

By
Krystal Shannan

Trevor MacLaughlin has been in love with his sister's best friend for years. But, he let her move away to college without ever telling her how he felt and hasn't seen her since.

Now, years later, a second chance with the woman of his dreams practically falls into his lap.

Will he take a leap of faith and tell her how he feels? How he's always felt? Or will the woman he knows is meant to be his slip through his fingers a second time?

Excerpt:
Trevor opened the hotel room door at 9:05pm. The meeting with the client had taken longer than he expected. The flooding had taken down a wall, collapsed a roof, and ruined several large machines. The owner was paying upfront for a quick salvage, but it would be tomorrow morning before he could have a crew mobilized and here.
As late as it was, he’d managed to find a little place still open and got them both a home-style burger and fries. Hopefully she would forgive him for being so late.
The site that greeted him was adorable and frightening at the same time. Her luggage was open on the floor and appeared to have been dug through, as if whatever she’d wanted was at the very bottom. A pair of pink satin and lace panties lay draped over the edge and a matching pink and black bra lay just inside the suitcase on top of a pile of shoes. The thought of seeing her in those made blood rush to his dick. Papers and books were scattered across the bed along with a tablet computer wrapped in a bright yellow cover.
He set the bag of food down on the dresser next to the tv and picked up one of the books off the bed – Ancient Gods and Goddesses. He flipped through a few pages. Next to it he picked up an inside out black, over-sized sweatshirt. He turned it the right way and chuckled. On the front it read –Men say a women’s place is in the kitchen. Just remember, that’s where all the knives are. This girl was something else.
The door of the bathroom clicked open. Lorelei walked out half wrapped in a towel, wet hair glistening, looking like one of the goddesses from her book. I’ve truly died and gone to heaven.
“Holy mother of popcorn balls! Trevor!” She screeched and ducked back into the bathroom, but not before giving him a nice peek at her bare ass. “You could at least make a little noise when you come in,” she spat out through the barely cracked door.
“Where would be the fun in that?”
He heard a faint curse, but couldn’t decipher what she’d said.
“Can you please leave so I can get dressed?”
He had no intention of leaving the room. “I can bring you clothes. What do you want?”
“I…fine. The yoga pants and the sweatshirt on the foot of the bed.”
He picked up the requested items and glanced down at the lacy bra and underwear. She hadn’t asked for them. A few steps brought him to the bathroom door. She opened it far enough to stick her arm through, snatching the clothes from his hand and shutting the door in his face.
“Anything else?” Underwear, perhaps?
“No.” Her voice was irritated, but husky. The raspy quality made his mind go places it shouldn’t.

Author, author... A Long Time Coming by Heather Van Fleet

...read all about her!!

Woohoo, so excited to have you here.  Can you tell us a little about yourself...

Well, I’m all sorts of unexciting. I’m a mom of three little girls, a wife to my hubby and high school sweet heart, an obsessive White Chocolate Mocha/Crème Brulee drinker, an author of all things young adult and new adult, a blogger, and yes, of course a reader too.

What is your favorite childhood Christmas memory?

My favorite Christmas Memory was always Christmas Eve. My parents, brothers, and I would always go out for pizza and then Christmas light hunt. I remember doing that more than I do even any Christmas days to be honest.

Do you like to decorate your house?  Anything special that you do for your decorating?
I’m kind of a bah–humbug girl to be honest. But I have to try for my girls. We don’t do outside decorations, but we do, do the tree, and a few indoor knick knacks here and there.

Do you have any special tradition that your family celebrates for the Christmas Holiday?

We always have a big Christmas Eve with my hubby’s family and then on Christmas day we do my side of the family.

Are you the holiday cook or do you let someone else do the cooking?

I can cook one thing. Sugar cookies and that’s it. Unfortunately I don’t cook. My husband does all that. It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just that I’m not very good at it. L

Do you like to be where there is snow for the holidays or are you (or want to be) a snowbird that likes to fly south for the winter?

I love snow…but after Christmas, it can all go away and I’d be fine with that. Definitely gets me in the Christmas mood though, so I suppose that’s a good thing.
As a reader, do you like to read Christmas stories?
Not particularly. Mainly because I’m not a huge fan of the holiday. (Gasp…I know. Sorry!!)

As a writer, do you like to write Christmas stories?
I did write a Christmas story once. It was published and everything, but the pub house shut down so it’s no longer out there. I enjoy writing that story. It was my first ‘sexy’ book too. But I don’t think I want to do it again.

Do you give the gift of reading for Christmas?
Oh yes, my girls get books every year. And for the first time ever, my mom wants me to buy her a book for Christmas this year. I was all like ‘yeah, thanks Mom, for finally reading my books,” and she’s like ‘no…I just want the last Hunger Games book so I don’t have to wait for the move.’ J Nothing like parental support, huh? Lol

For fun, I have a few personal questions,
Your Favorite 5
1) Favorite Christmas song -
I don’t know the title. But I know it’s a duo. Maybe it’s called “Baby it’s Cold Outside.”
2) Favorite Christmas movie-
A Christmas Story of course.
3) Favorite Christmas story –
I don’t know any! Ah!! *runs and hides*
4) Favorite Christmas color-
Gold
5) Favorite Christmas food -
Ham and cheesy potatoes

And for a bonus, if you were given the gift of travel to anywhere for the holidays, where would you want to go???
Hawaii!!! Granted there wouldn’t be snow, but I could tolerate the beach just once if I had to. J

Is there an upcoming or current release you would like to share with us today and where can we find it?
Well, my very first release, A Long Time Coming was my last book released. It’s a contemporary New Adult/Young Adult. You can find it here:
Abigail Orson has a problem. A love problem to be precise; and she has absolutely no idea how to go about fixing it.
For years now, she has been chasing her best friend’s brother—demanding things from him that he’s never wanted to give. For one? A real relationship that surpasses well beyond that dreaded ‘just friends’ zone. You see, David Anderson is her idea of perfection to a T. The one and only guy who has ever had the ability to make her heart beat faster; make her toes curl with the simple blink of his long, girly lashes. But David is also a recovering amputee, and the only thing he really wants from Abigail is to be left alone. Abigail is a fighter though, and losing the one guy who has ruined her for every other is no longer an option.
A guy with one leg who has lost his motivation to live—to love—to actually be a man. David believes he’s a waste of space. If only the beautiful girl of his unattainable dreams would get that through her perfect, blonde, stubborn head! He’s not the right guy for Abigail. He’ll never be worthy of what she deserves. However, staying away is almost impossible, especially when he’s just as in love with her as she is with him. But Abigail has a life ahead of her, one that’s definitely livable without a nineteen–year–old gimp like him holding her down. What makes her want to stick around is beyond questionable to David’s mind.
Choices will be made. Lines will be drawn. And together, they will face challenges that nobody saw coming. David and Abigail may have had almost fourteen years to fall in love, but the thing is, timing and love have never exactly worked in their favor.

It has been years in the making, and definitely A Long Time Coming for David and Abigail. Let’s hope they don’t screw it up before they actually have the chance to get it right…

Her eyes were so focused and shiny that he barely remembered his own name, let alone what he was about to say. “No crutches, David.” They made it to the edge of the floor, just as the tempo of the music slowed, to that of a seductive, rhythmic beat. She pulled his hands towards her, and he took that non–verbal command, wrapping his arms around her waist. His fingers knew just what to do, settling into the curves of her body right above her perfect ass. Those damn traitorous body parts had a mind of their own. “I won’t let you fall…” she whispered in his ear, running her fingers through the back of his hair like a vixen who he wanted to steal away forever, only, though, so he could lock her up with him in the backseat of her car again. Shit …it wasn’t the fear of falling that worried him. Oh no…it was the fear of never wanting to let her go again.     About the Author: Midwestern native Heather Van Fleet lives in a small town on the Iowa/Illinois border. UNTANGLE ME EXCERPT:

Where was Seth?
Once in the center of the dance floor she turned in a circle, looking every direction.
There.
From the center seat at the bar, Seth’s direct stare held her captive. A new song excited the crowd and cheers surrounded them, but neither of them paid it any attention.
His jacket and tie were gone, giving her a closer look at his all-male body. The top button on his white shirt was undone. She wanted to undo the rest and get a glimpse at what lay underneath. Round shoulders tapered to his waist. She bit her lip as she imagined his length.
He made no move to come to her, his elbow still rested on the bar. He was a man waiting for the world to come to him.
Not the world. Her.
The comfortable confidence and the heat shining in his eyes turned her on. She swayed her hips to the hypnotic beat. Her hands felt their way up her thighs, around her hips, and an inch past her waist, he got up and walked towards her.
In no time, his feet stepped in between hers and together they rocked to the music. The drums and base from the band pushed a rhythm into her body, driving her desire. Their fingers interlaced. She snuggled closer and breathed in his clean musky scent.
She wanted to touch him, but he kept a hold on her hands. He pushed them both behind her, causing her back to arch and her breasts to press deliciously into his hard body. Heat rolled through her. She let her head fall back, exposing her neck.

His lips brushed across her collarbone. They continued to rock back and forth, their hips swaying and rubbing together. He took her wrists in one hand and his other stroked down her neck, over her shoulder, caressed the side of her breast, and around her waist to land on her butt. He squeezed her ass and pressed her into the hard ridge of his cock. She lowered her chin and moaned as she took in his expression filled with raw desire. A slow devilish smile lit his features and sent a tremble through her.
The song ended and another began while they continued their dance. He let go of her hands and she wrapped them around his neck. Both of his hands molded her ass. She nuzzled his neck, taking a nibble and a few kisses as she breathed him in. She wanted more.
Lots more.
She made her way closer to his mouth. Before she stole a kiss, she looked into his eyes. His brown eyes had darkened to the color of night, matching his hair. She sucked on her lower lip.
“You know what you’re doing, right?” he asked.
“I know I want you.”
“The Masters work the back rooms on club nights. But we can stay on the dance floor all night, if you want.”
“You’re talking about the one on one rooms?” She sucked in a breath.
“I don’t think this crowd is prepared to see what I want to do to you.”
“Can we go back there? I want to go back there.” She looked directly into his eyes.

Authors, authors... of All I Want for Christmas is a Cowboy

...read all about them !!

All I Want for Christmas is a Cowboy
By: Katie Lane, Emma Cane & Jennifer Ryan

5 stars all around !!!!!

Blurbs
What’s better than Christmas? Christmas and Cowboys. Contemporary romance stars Emma Cane, Jennifer Ryan, and Katie Lane join together for a holiday anthology to remember.

“The Christmas Cabin” by Emma Cane
Sandy, recently diagnosed with MS and abandoned by her husband, is determined to make Christmas special for her five-year-old Nate. While they’re trooping through the woods to cut down their Christmas tree, a snowstorm arises, and a mysterious old ranch hand points them toward an abandoned cabin. Little do they realize, the ranch hand also guides cowboy Doug Thalberg to the same place…My Review:What a great Christmas Story, short and sweet.  I loved it!  I have to admit when I read the prologue, It gave me a weary feeling and I got a bit worried that it might not be a happy ending story but  my thoughts were changed pretty quickly.  I was pleasantly surprised by this heartfelt love story and one could only be so lucky to have such great Christmas memories to share year after year.  I loved the way the family gathered around to listen to the whole story, same as they do every year.  Made me feel like I was right there with them.Great, great story Emma Cane.  You are a new author to me but I plan on looking up more of your stories about the Silver Creek Ranch in Valentine Valley !!

“Can’t Wait” by Jennifer Ryan
Before The Hunted series, Caleb and Summer had a whirlwind romance not to be forgotten...
Caleb Bowden has a lot to thank his best friend, Jack, for - saving his life in Iraq and giving him a job helping him run his family’s ranch. He also introduced him to the most incredible woman he’s ever met. Too bad he can’t ask her out. You do not date your best friend’s sister. Summer and Caleb share a closeness she’s never felt for anyone, but the stubborn man refuses to turn the flirtatious friendship into something meaningful. Frustrated and tired of wishing to be happy, Caleb tells Jack how he feels about Summer. With his friend’s help, he plans a surprise Christmas proposal she’ll never forget - because he can’t wait to make her his wife.  My Review:
I LOVE strong military men.  Stubborn and sexy.  Caleb is all that and a bag of chips!  I'll take one of him please !!There almost aren't words....this story made me ache for Caleb and Summer. That poor girl practically pouring her heart out every time she was with Caleb and him struggling to stay true to his friendship with Jack.  I couldn't have been more pleased with how the story developed and loved how the whole family got brought into the mix eventually.  By chapter 12, I was fighting off the tears.  What a truly great love story Ms. Jennifer Ryan.  I can't wait to read on from this story into your series!

“Marry Christmas” by Katie Lane
Alana Hale is tired of irresponsible beach bums whose only plan for the future is catching the next “awesome” wave. So when she tries her luck with an internet dating service and ends up hitting the Responsible-Sensitive-Man jackpot, she wastes no time accepting Clint McCormick’s invitation to spend the holidays on his family’s ranch. But when an unexpected blizzard strands Alana, she’ll be forced to find refuge in the arms of a womanizing rodeo cowboy who knows how to take the chill off a cold winter night. Now Alana will have to make a choice between the man who heats her blood and the man who touches her heart. Or will she? Mistaken identity will give Alana the man of her dreams and a very “Marry” Christmas.
My Review:

Katie Lane, thank you for writing such a fantastic story!  I am such a mushy romantic fan but I'm also a diehard cowboy lover and this....well this story was right up my alley all the way !  I swear I caught myself laughing like a giddy school girl more than once :)

I loved this story for all the obvious reasons, Christmas...sexy cowboys...stubborn women...but also for another not so obvious(to anyone else) reason, and that being that I met my hubby online.  First it was just emails and then gradually getting to texts.  The picture I had of him was so goofy looking that it made me nervous at the thought of meeting him but I also couldn't imagine not meeting him in person.  Thank you so much for reminding me of one of the most wonderful memories in my life :)

Loved the confusion and mix-ups with the two brothers and as I read, I hoped and hoped it would actually turn out like I was thinking all along.   Very well written and a great storyline !  You made me want to get stranded, then found and hidden away in a cozy cabin.   Can't wait to read more of your stories !!

Author, author... Incarnation by Susan Nolan

...read all about it !!!

Welcome, so great to have you here with us.  Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I moved to Canada from England at the age of five and love to visit back when I have a chance.  Travelling is something I do whenever I can and I have enjoyed visits to various locations on four continents. I have had a career in public education and spent a number of years as a school librarian where I developed my love for young adult fiction.  My family is the most important thing to me.

Do real life events find their way into your stories?
My settings are sometimes drawn from places I have seen or been but I have to confess that I am guilty of completely fabricating my characters.

Do you ever mimic family members or people you know when you choose characters?
No, although the animals do exist! “Daisy”, from my recent novel Incarnation, is a dog that was owned by a friend of mine, and even though I changed the breed, her lively spirit is the same. “Diesel”, another dog I love, is featured in the current apocalyptic fantasy I am working on.

Do you find yourself going back to the same inspiration for each story or is it always something different?
Something different in the way of events and characters but the elements of fantasy are usually there.

When do you write?  Early morning? During the day sometime or all day?  After the kids go to bed?
I love to write after I have been out walking.  I find a lot of inspiration in just getting in touch with the universe!

How do you feel about marketing your book?
I am a fairly private person… I love to share stories but letting people in to my real life is not so comfortable.

What social sites do you feel work best for marketing?
Sorry… I am a bit clueless here. I am a regular FB user and do plan on setting up a Twitter account and perhaps a blog.

Do you like to pitch stories to your publisher or do you wait until you have written the story and have a final manuscript to turn in?
As a first time author, I submitted a full manuscript.  I hope to develop a relationship with a publisher where ideas could be discussed beforehand.

Is there any other genre that you would love to try writing?  If so, what is it?
Oh yes!  I love mysteries… especially ones with a lot of psychological drama.

Do you always/ever see yourself as the heroine/hero when you write a story?
I don’t think that my main characters are really me… but I do love getting to know them as they evolve.

Just for fun, I have a few personal questions,
Favorite 5
1)        Favorite Male Actor  - Daniel Day-Louis
2)        Favorite vehicle - Jeep
3)        Favorite way to relax - Read
4)        Favorite ice cream – Black Cherry
5)        Favorite outfit -  Sweats or Jeans
And for a bonus:  If you could pick any place in the world to live, besides where you are now, where would it be?  (Of course, without the hindrance of jobs or money needed)
I was born in England and would move back there in a heartbeat if I didn’t have so many personal connections in Canada.

Where can our readers find you??

Author, author... Xandra James with Dirty Tricks !!

**Welcome Xandra, so great to have you here with us.  Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Thank you for allowing me to visit! Right, I'm a multi-published, British author of paranormal and contemporary romance. I'm married with cats, and have been writing 'properly'  (i.e. trying not to slack off and pry myself from the internet everyday to get word count!) for the last 3 years or so.

**Do real life events find their way into your stories?
Funny you should say that, because up until my last book – Dirty Tricks – I've have said not so much. But there's one particular scene in the book that's inspired by my husband. It's the scene in Chapter two where Cat scares Jay out of his sleep. Yes, this is inspired by a real life event, LOL. (and I've included it as an excerpt, below!)
**Do you ever mimic family members or people you know when you choose characters?
I find the best villains in books take aspects you dislike about the people around you. I've been inspired to write some real…nasty people in the past. And yes, all thanks to those I've come in contact with over the years, LOL.
**Do you find yourself going back to the same inspiration for each story or is it always something different?
I'm not a very visual person, but I have a picture of Hugh Jackman that I use for most of my heroes… I just change the appearance to suit the character and plot! But yes, there's always something different to be inspired by and I try to mix it up a little every time.
**When do you write?  Early morning? During the day sometime or all day?  After the kids go to bed?
I used to be a nightowl. My most creative was late at night or throughout the night. Now? I'm old, LOL. If I'm writing into the early morning, I'm dead for the whole of the next day. I prefer to get up early and work through the morning. After a cup of caffeine, of course.
**How do you feel about marketing your book?
It's a necessary evil. I dislike pushing my books on all and sundry and prefer just to put my head down and writer another one. Unfortunately, I have to attempt to be social!
**What social sites do you feel work best for marketing?
For marketing? Probably facebook. It has a much higher engagement ratio, in my experience. But my favourite social outlet is twitter because you can do as much or as little as you want and still give your followers bite size chunks of you.
**Do you like to pitch stories to your publisher or do you wait until you have written the story and have a final manuscript to turn in?
In the past I've always written the manuscript then submitted it. But I wouldn't be adverse to pitching then writing, although I am more of a punster so an outline may go a little awry!
**Is there any other genre that you would love to try writing?  If so, what is it?
Horror romance. There's something about scaring the pee out of someone and still having a happily ever after that appeals to me! Or maybe I'm just odd…
**Do you always/ever see yourself as the heroine/hero when you write a story?
No, not really. I usually envision my heroine with a trait or two of mine, but apart from that they're totally unique.

**Just for fun, I have a few personal questions,
Favorite 5
1)        Favorite Male Actor  - Hugh Jackman or Leonardo DiCaprio
2)        Favorite vehicle – Ooh, an Aston Martin DB9
3)        Favorite way to relax – Spending it with my hubby and cats. Having a laugh, with some nice food – bliss!
4)        Favorite ice cream – I love a good, soft, creamy vanilla ice-cream. I don't think you can beat it.
5)        Favorite outfit – Jeans and something. I love to be comfortable and would happily go everywhere in them if I could!
**And for a bonus:  If you could pick any place in the world to live, besides where you are now, where would it be?  (Of course, without the hindrance of jobs or money needed)
Venice is one of the most inspiring places I've ever visited so that would be up on my list of places. Also, I'd love to give somewhere metropolitan a go, too. Maybe Paris or New York.

Excerpt:
(Setting the scene - Cat wants to scare Jay the way she's been doing everyone else at the old Manor House… but she doesn't count on his reaction!)

Cat closed the small door firmly but quietly, and switched to a tiny peephole located next to the door so she could still keep an eye on him, and stay hidden from view. Cat grinned, almost laughing as she prepared herself for what she was about to do. She counted to three, took a deep breath in, and screamed as loud as she'd ever done in her life.
Jay shot out of his sleeping bag, momentarily getting his feet tangled in it’s confines, then he was out and sprinting in the direction of the bedroom door before she'd even been able to draw breath again. It was all she could do to clamp her jaw shut to stop from laughing out loud. He flung open the bedroom door, then he stopped dead. Turning to look back at where he'd come from, his eyes were frantic and his face white.
Cat almost felt sorry for him. Almost.
"I know it was you." His voice was shaky and she muffled her laugh again. Jay coughed and she watched as he clenched and unclenched his fists about ten times. "You caught me unawares, very funny." He took a couple of steadying breaths.
"I'm going over to your house. If I don't find you, I'll be calling the police." Now that made her quit laughing. He wouldn't dare, would he? She watched him closely as he peered around the room, checking behind the door.
Cat scrambled away from the peephole and down the tunnel whilst she had the chance. Knowing the place like the back of her hand, she took the steps down to the ground floor two at a time, the damp smelling stone walls barely registering. Cat didn't even make a sound as she ran smack-dab into a cluster of webs, resisting the urge to squeal at possible spiders clinging to her hair. His footsteps pounded against the wood above her as he ran down the stairs and she knew he was gaining ground. Damn it.
The last leg of the tunnel was pure damp blackness at this time of night, and she had to force herself to keep moving forward as quickly as she could. Her hands grazed the rough, stone sides as she run fast, not slowing until she saw the small opening. Pushing through, she found herself in front of the old oak tree in the garden.
Looking around, she was still alone. She climbed through the small, broken fence and into her garden. Cat had barely shut her back door and picked up Elvis, who was yowling for food while clawing at the kitchen cupboard, when the banging started at her front door.
"Shit," she said, frightening the cat. He dropped from her arms and scarpered up the curtain to perch precariously on the lounge door, watching her with wide eyes.
Cat tried slowing her rapid breath for a moment. She was wrecked and proclaimed herself too old to be running. Her legs felt like jelly and the intense pinching pain in her side made her want to curl up in a heap on the floor and die. Instead, she switched on the hallway light, illuminating the long narrow throughway. Cat ran her shaky hands down her old vest and shorts, rubbing off small particles of house dust and grime she'd accumulated in her trek. Finally, she stepped to the front door and opened it.
His hands gripped the door frame and his large physique filled the doorway. He was livid. Two splotches of red sat high on his cheeks and his t-shirt clung to his chest. Cat's eyes lingered a moment too long on that chest before she remembered her manners and made herself look up into his face.
"I suppose you think this is funny?"
Cat caught the aroma of his aftershave and tried to dampen down her unwanted excitement. "I don't know what you mean."
"Like hell, lady." Jay pushed his hair back away from his face. Beads of sweat gathered at his temple. "I know what you've been doing. And it's stops. Now."
"As I said, Mr., call me Jay, I don't know what you're talking about. Now if you'll leave, it's very late." Cat tried to push at the door, but Jay held his hand against it to stop its progress and pushed back, stepping inside the house, and glaring down at her from over six feet to her five foot four inches. The perspiration that had started with her running, now felt like a river down her spine and the valley between her breasts.
His face relaxed and his blue eyes, once dancing with ice, were now the colour of the Caribbean sea. It made her uncomfortable and she stepped back slightly, completely aware of how sexually attracted she was to him, despite the situation.
"So how come," Jay bent down towards her face, his lips mere inches from hers, "You've got more spider guts in your hair than any sane woman should have?"
Cat's eyes widened. She did the spider dance; running on the spot, shaking her head, and altogether embarrassing herself. She couldn't help it after, psychologically or not, feeling her scalp crawl.
A smug smile flashed back at her after bearing witness to her mini spider seizure.
"I'm still denying it," Cat grumbled, knowing she'd been had.
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah." His arms were around her waist in seconds and his lips found hers in a crushing kiss that made her knees wobble.
His tongue zoned in on its target and zapped her mind clean of any thought. Before her brain started working again, she was kissing him back. Man, she'd been too long without a man. Strong arms held her against him and she definitely wasn't resisting.
If her legs felt like jelly before, they were positively mush now.
Her fingers crept into his dirty blonde hair, the silkiness making her shiver in delight. Pushing herself against him, she couldn't quite get as close as her body commanded. They were both breathing heavy as her hands finally found the hem of his t-shirt and lifted. She didn't stop, taking it all the way over his head.
Cat realised that shirtless he was sensational. She would’ve given thanks to the god of pecs if she didn't want to chew on him so bad it hurt. Her hands explored his chest and his mouth kept on devouring her own.
She didn't want it to end—ever. His touch was bliss, his hard body divine, and those eyes? She could lose herself forever and never want to escape.
Jay lifted her legs to hug his waist and she barely wasted a moment in thinking she shouldn't have eaten those extra three Oreo cookies. He was hard against her and she was totally ready for him.
He had her pushed against her hallway wall, his hands exploring her breasts under her t-shirt, his tongue doing amazing things to her neck when he stopped.
It took Cat a few moments to notice that everything had halted as she was so far into him. And then he was gently pulling her top down and lowering her to the floor.
He grabbed his t-shirt and hesitated at the still open doorway. "Quit trespassing," he said softly, not looking around at her, before stepping out into the night and disappearing down her driveway.
Catching her breath and straightening her mussed up hair, she willed her wayward heart to slow down.
Well, shit. That definitely wasn't part of the plan.

Author, author... Sweetwater Springs Christmas

As one of the contributing authors of Sweetwater Springs Christmas, please welcome a guest post by...

  Linda Carroll-Bradd

Behind The Scenes of Writing For An Anthology

By Linda Carroll-Bradd
Early this summer I was thrilled to be invited to contribute to a Christmas anthology of western historical stories set in Debra Holland’s Montana Sky world. In addition to being one of Debra’s editors, I enjoy her series of sweet historical romances. The eleven participating authors did a bit of brainstorming to make sure we didn’t duplicate on names or professions, and checked a fact here or there about details where our stories would overlap. Then we retreated to our writing spaces to create the collection of stories that became Sweetwater Springs Christmas.
My original plot involving a female doctor coming to town to receive training didn’t work because Debra has that role already planned for a future book. But she said we could tie the short story to any of our current works. Several other authors have series set in Montana or nearby and they made their connections. I have a contemporary novel that released in October, Rekindled Dreams, that is set in Montana so I made the heroine of Wishes On A Staran ancestor to the hero in the contemporary. The tie-in may be one that only I appreciate but it’s there.
Because 1895 is the latest in the 1800s I’ve ever set a story, I jumped onto Google and Wikipedia to start checking out the early 1890s. I studied inventions, historic events, clothing fashions, etc. My minor in college was Women’s Studies so I knew women were involved in rallies and speeches forwarding the cause of women’s suffrage during these years. Based on information included in a journal found in Rekindled Dreams, the heroine was from a ranching family who help found her northern Montana hometown.
So how did women’s suffrage and an isolated ranch fit together? I made Richelle Quaid the youngest child and only daughter in the family, somewhat pampered, and Daddy dotes on her. The family is wealthy enough that she has attended academies and finishing schools and traveled to stay with relatives in other parts of America. Raised with only brothers, she’s outspoken so she can be heard and is adept at ranch skills and chores. Her counterpoint, hero Landon Howard, is a rancher and horse breeder who is visiting Sweetwater Springs to bring a horse to be used for stud services. Because the boarding house in town was already reserved (by characters in someone else’s story), my hero had to know someone in town with whom he could stay. So I made Landon friends with the banker and his widowed sister who wishes she could monopolize his time. A bit of fun there.
Sweetwater Springs Christmas released November 18th and already has some nice reviews on Amazon. A print version should be available next month in time for Christmas shopping. The participating authors are: E. Ayers, MJ Frederick, Debra Holland, Paty Jager, Jill Marie Landis, Linda MacLaughlin, Trish Milburn, Bev Pettersen, Tori Scott, Cynthia Woolf…and me.
Blurb for Wishes On A Star:
Free-spirit Richelle Quaid is outspoken, confident and a little bit spoiled. She sets tongues wagging with her bloomers and bicycle but also catches the eye of visiting rancher Landon Howard. An incident with her bicycle causes his prize colt to bolt into the cold Montana night. As Richelle and Landon track the animal together, they can’t fight their growing attraction. Will a wish made on a star foretell their future?

BIO:
As a child, Linda was often found lying on her bed reading about characters having exciting adventures in places far away. Upon reaching a landmark birthday, she decided to write one of those romances she loved so much. Easier said than done. Perseverance paid out and twelve years later, she received her first call from a publisher and a confession story was published. Now Linda writes heartwarming contemporary and historical stories with a touch of humor, and many have a tie to her previous home of Texas.
Linda currently lives in the southern California mountains with her husband of 34 years and their two much-loved dogs, Shiba Inu Keiko and terrier mix Phoenix.

Author, author... Wildcard by Jamie Wyman + Giveaway

.... read all about it !!

Wild Card - Jamie Wyman - Banner

Welcome, so great to have you here with us.  Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m Jamie. I’m a total geek who loves fire, circus history and chai. I live in Arizona with my husband, our 8 year old daughter and two feline overlords. When I’m not writing, I’m probably gaming with friends.

Do real life events find their way into your stories?
Occasionally. Nothing big, really. Sometimes it’s one line that is sortof a personal Easter egg. For example, in WILD CARD, I mention Cat Sharp playing roulette. She bets on 8 and it lands on 19, the adjacent slot. That actually happened to me in Vegas once. There are other little things, throw-away lines that are meant for my friends to catch. I try not to use actual events, though, as major scenes or plot points.

Do you ever mimic family members or people you know when you choose characters?
Yes. Again, though, it’s always a small nod with a walk-on extra type character. I don’t base main characters on people I know, because those characters usually come to me with very specific personalities and physical descriptions already in place. And I keep any resemblance limited. Maybe a first or last name, or a particular pattern of speech. The best example of this I can think of is Cat’s geriatric landlady Mrs. McIntyre in WILD CARD. I based her physical appearance and dialogue on both of my grandmothers, and gave her the last name of one of my dearest friends.
Do you find yourself going back to the same inspiration for each story or is it always something different?
Nope. Every story is its own song with different inspirations, beats, quirks and melodies.
When do you write?  Early morning? During the day sometime or all day?  After the kids go to bed?
During the day while my daughter is at school. Sometimes at night after dinner. I try to keep weekends open to spend with my family.
How do you feel about marketing your book?
It’s very weird and unnatural to me. Part of me feels like Katniss Everdeen trying to get through all of her Capitol interviews. Haymitch is sometimes in my ear saying, “Try to be likable, sweetheart.” On the other hand, I love Cat, Marius and all the characters in WILD CARD and could talk about them til I’m blue in the face. So that part is pretty easy.
What social sites do you feel work best for marketing?
Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter. That’s my trifecta.
Do you like to pitch stories to your publisher or do you wait until you have written the story and have a final manuscript to turn in?
I prefer to have something finished that I can offer rather than just a synopsis pitch.
Is there any other genre that you would love to try writing?  If so, what is it?
I like to play in several sandboxes. Horror, Urban Fantasy, Romance. I go where the stories guide me.
Do you always/ever see yourself as the heroine/hero when you write a story?
No. The characters are separate people. However, I feel like an actor in that I am able to inhabit that character and draw on my own experiences to have empathy for what they’re going through. If it’s a particularly visceral scene, this leads to me bleeding profusely on the page, but I think the book is better for it.
Just for fun, I have a few personal questions,
Favorite 5
1)      Favorite Male Actor  - Tom Hiddleston. My love for him is unholy and well-documented.
2)      Favorite vehicle – Gypsy wagon. The kind that you associate with circuses.
3)      Favorite way to relax -  Drinking chai and playing games with my friends.
4)      Favorite ice cream – Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby
5)      Favorite outfit – T-shirt and pajama pants. Accept no substitutes.
And for a bonus:  If you could pick any place in the world to live, besides where you are now, where would it be?  (Of course, without the hindrance of jobs or money needed)
Hawaii! I’d have a commune in Hawaii with all my friends and family. We’d surf and laugh and game and spin fire and drink fruity things with those little umbrellas in them all day long.

Excerpt:

“Bugger all, you are a lousy date!”
“This isn’t a date,” I contested. “This is a job. Nothing more.”
“You could do worse than a date with me, Catherine.”
I snorted. “Not by much.”
“Do you honestly find me so repellent?” His face drawn in a mockery of disappointment, Marius stretched out his arms in a move that was equal parts pining for attention and putting himself on display. Once more, I humored the idea that for all of his personality flaws and inhuman traits, he sparked something in the deeper reaches of my interest. Maybe it was the sleek line of his shoulders in that suit. Or the silky thickness of his hair. I skimmed over our past, wondering if I’d ever seen it down rather than in a ponytail.
I shook my head and stopped pondering. This was Marius. I’d never seen beneath the glamour, but I knew it was there. I wouldn’t deny that he was attractive, but I couldn’t accept that what I saw was reality. Still…
“You’re all right,” I conceded, looking away and letting my stare drift over the crowd.
“All right?” Dropping his arms, he chuffed indignantly.
“Darling, I do believe I must fetch you a dictionary as your vocabulary is sorely lacking. I am better than all right. I am spectacular. I am an Adonis. Tantric sex in a suit, is what I am. And it wouldn’t kill you to pay me a compliment. Here, allow me to demonstrate. You are stunning, Catherine. You sparkle with the delicate fire of a star. A vision of grace and beauty that would make Aphrodite herself fume with envy.”
Abashed and red-faced, I looked away. With a hooked finger he picked up my chin and drew my attention back to his too sincere face.
“I am truly the luckiest of men to have the honor of escorting you tonight.” He placed the faintest of kisses—little more than a breath and the brush of his mustache—on the back of my hand.
“May I have the pleasure of sharing a dance with you?”
My stomach fluttered. I wasn’t snowed by his pretty words, but the intensity of his stare gave me pause. Could he mean it? Could I actually be entertaining the idea that Marius was anything other than a bother?
I blew out a breath I hadn’t realize I’d been holding.
“Sure. Why not? Nothing better to do.”  *****
One last thing before we let you leave us today.  I love to cook and am always looking for new recipes to try and share.
My husband is the cook, but I have a simple recipe for one of my favorite alcoholic drinks. It’s our Ohana take on Butter Beer from Harry Potter. You will need a pint glass (frosted mug is also very nice with this), your favorite root beer, Frangelico and Buttershots.

First, pour 1 shot of the Frangelico and 2 shots Buttershots into your pint glass. Top off with your favorite root beer. (I recommend A&W or Teddy’s for this as it’s smooth and creamy.) Stir. Enjoy.

Today I have the pleasure of hosting Michael Phillip Cash  Hi and welcome !  Can you tell us a little about yourself? Thank you for having me.  My name is Michael Phillip Cash and I’m the author of 3 novels called Brood X: A Firsthand Account of the Great Cicada Invasion, Stillwell: A Haunting on Long Island and The Hanging Tree: A Novella. When did you start writing and were you always interested in being a published author? Been writing stories since I’m 5.  I’ve been writing screenplays since 18, and I’ve been writing novels since I’m 30.  What do you think is or has been the hardest part of getting published?  I’m a do-it-yourself kinda person and went directly to createspace.com to self-publish my works.  I am in control creatively and financially of the material and it has been a really rewarding experience.  I highly recommend it. What inspires you to write?  There is nothing better than watching an audience be captivated by your tale.  I love reading and watching ghost shows and hauntings of history.  I have also been greatly inspired by Quentin Tarantino and his ideas of revisionist history.  Do you plot out your stories or just wing it?   Just wing it!  The characters talk to me and tell me where they want to go.  Do you have any other stories in the works?   Yes!  I’m fulfilling a lifelong dream and putting together a fantasy novel.  It’s called Schism: The Battle for Darracia and it’s an epic fantasy about searching for one’s strength and identity.  How does your family feel about your writing?   They are totally supportive! And they are the biggest critics of my work.  When you aren’t writing, do you do anything fun?   I’m a sucker for good movies.  I love taking my wife and kids out on adventures.  And I love Vegas anytime of the year!  Fun Five Favorites::  Favorite color: GreenFavorite food: Cheeseburgers (No bun)Favorite sport: Football – go Jets!Favorite movie genre: Found Footage / DocumentaryNot-so-Favorite honey-do list item J: Dinner with the in-laws!  Same with lunch.  How can our readers find you? My new novella just recently came out called The Hanging Tree.  It’s available now on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Kindle.  Seventeen year old Arielle is at a crossroads in her life.   Disenchanted with her father, she is testing the boundaries of his trust by dating someone he does not approve.  Under the moonlight sky in Long Island, Arielle and her boyfriend meet beneath the infamous hanging tree.  The couple's destiny is rooted to the five spirits in the tree whose lives and deaths are determined by an ancient curse.   Will her future be determined by the past or will Arielle's choices alter the course of her life?    Available now at Amazon  Excerpt:The bark bit into the delicate skin of Arielle’s back. Stars twinkled above her, dancing in the reflection of Chad’s eyes.   “Stop, really.  Stop.” She pushed at Chad’s shoulders as he resisted her, his lips caressing the side of her neck. “I don’t want to.” “Arielle, you promised,.” Chad whispered, assaulting her lips. “I thought you said you love me,” he wheedled.Arielle looked at the leafy canopy. “I do. I really do, but I...I don’t know if I want to do this.  Especially here,”  she added practically.Chad wheeled away, clearly annoyed, and bounced to his car door. The car was his pride and joy, a gift for his eighteenth birthday, a Camaro, light blue and totally awesome.  It was a chick magnet, and for a minute he wanted to share that with Arielle. They had been dating for almost six months, and he was more than ready to take it to the next level. It wasn’t his first time, and there were plenty of girls interested in him if Arielle wasn’t. Pulling a pack of cigarettes out of the console, he flipped a Zippo expertly, lit his cigarette, and inhaled deeply.Arielle walked over and leaned against the car door nearby, moving close to him, trying to feel his moist body heat in the cool summer air. Crickets chirped nearby, and they watched traffic pick up on the road to the left of them.“Looks like the movie ended,”  Arielle offered up some conversation.Chad nodded but didn’t respond. The silence stretched before them, anxiety building in her tight chest. She loved him, but this was big, huge; she just wasn’t ready. She considered the spreading oak tree before them. Everybody was mad at her, everybody in the world. She knew she was going to be in hot water with her dad that night. He was pissed when she had walked out. She looked at Chad’s profile in the dark, his features limned by the streetlamp. He was tall with sandy blond hair worn long and loose. It caressed his high cheekbones, and he was always brushing it from his warm, honey eyes. When he looked at a girl, she felt special. Well, he wasn’t looking at her now, so she tried again. “They say the tree is haunted.”“I’m not afraid of ghosts,”  Chad declared, his wide mouth scowling.  He wanted to punish her. There had been the promise for so long; he wanted to tell her to put up or he was out of here. She was one of the prettiest girls in the school, with hips that moved so gracefully he couldn’t take his eyes off of her. The pale oval of her face gazed up at him, and he brushed her soft lips with his finger. She had the bluest eyes fringed by black lashes. Those eyes lit up with pleasure, and she rubbed her cheek against his knuckles. Picking up a light brown curl, he twined it around his fingers.“Where’s your penknife?” Arielle asked
