The BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Reboot Has Found Its New Chosen One

The upcoming reboot/legacy sequel series to Buffy the Vampire Slayer has found its Chosen One. According to Variety, the new series lead is Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who recently starred in the Disney+ Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew. She was also the lead in the Firestarter remake. Sarah Michelle Gellar returns as Buffy Summers, who will serve as a mentor to the new teen Slayer that Armstrong will play. Gellar was the one to tell the young actress that she got the job. SMG posted the video of her giving RKA the big, career-changing news on Instagram.

In her post, Sarah Michelle Gellar said “From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side. To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent, at such a young age is truly gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.”

(Left) Ryan Kiera Armstrong in Skeleton Crew (Right) Sarah Michelle Gellar in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.Lucasfilm/Twentieth Century Television

One very interesting thing that Gellar said in the emotional video to her new co-star was “Welcome to New Sunnydale.” That right there is a pretty big spoiler for the new show’s premise. At the end of the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, the entire town of Sunnydale, built over a Hellmouth and home base for Buffy and friends, is destroyed. But it looks like in the nearly 25 years since that fateful day, a new town now exists in that valuable California real estate.

The question remains, however. If Ryan Kiera Armstrong is the lead character, will the show still have the title Buffy the Vampire Slayer? She may be a slayer someone names after Buffy. But then we’d have “Buffy #1” and “Buffy #2,” and that might get tiresome. Rumors persist that Buffy has changed her name to Anne in this series. This is something she once did in the original show when she ran away from home. That might make things easier. The new Buffy reboot has Poker Face’s Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman as showrunners and executive producers. Chloé Zhao will direct the pilot for Hulu. There’s no release date yet. But if cameras start rolling this year, we might see the series in 2026. Or perhaps in 2027, the original show’s 30th anniversary.

Here’s Why Andy Serkis’ Kino Loy Did NOT Appear in ANDOR Season 2

Andy Serkis made a HUGE impact on Andor fans in season one, playing Kino Loy, a Narkina 5 prisoner who helped lead a prison rebellion against the Empire. Serkis’ Kino Loy made a hugely moving speech in Andor season one and then broke hearts when it turned out he couldn’t join the prison escape that he himself helped orchestrate because he couldn’t swim. Loy’s character beautifully illuminated Andor‘s themes of rebellion, love, and sacrifice. And so, fans hoped Andy Serkis would return as Kino Loy in Andor season two. But did he, and if so why not?

Was Andy Serkis’ Kino Loy in Andor Season 2? Here’s Why Andy Serkis’ Kino Loy Did NOT Appear in ANDOR Season 2_1Lucasfilm

Alas, Andy Serkis’ Kino Loy did not return to Andor in season two. The last we see of the character is in season one, episode 10 of Andor, “One Way Out.” As mentioned, in this episode, Loy is unable to escape the prison with Cassian and the rest of those imprisoned.

Kino Loy’s Journey on ANDORAndor Creator Tony Gilroy Reveals Why Kino Loy Did Not Return

But since Kino Loy was so beloved, why didn’t he make it back to Andor? Well, creator Tony Gilroy has a pretty sensical response. He notes, “Andy dropped the mic, man. What am I going to do that’s going to be better than what we did? All it does is minimize that moment. I knew a lot of people were talking about whether we had a way of [bringing him back]. But I didn’t want to have that sort of coincidental environment.”

Cassian talks to Kino in the prisoner hallwayLucasfilm

Ultimately, we don’t know the fate of Andy Serkis’ Kino Loy in Andor or Star Wars‘ world. But we do know that he got to leave our screens on a powerful note. And that’s more than some characters are lucky enough to receive. We agree with Gilroy that a meaningful conclusion is better than having a character appear just for the sake of appearance. And much as we loved Kino Loy on Andor, if there was nothing for him to do in season two, then it’s best he never made an appearance.

Andor Season 2 Left Other Character Fates Unknown

Kino Loy’s Andor ending isn’t the only question mark we are left with after the series’ finale. Cassian Andor’s sister also remains a mystery figure that did not quite receive an ending. Gilroy reveals, “[Kino Loy] is like the sister — people wanted to know if we’re going to resolve the sister,” Gilroy continued. “And the sister, in the beginning, is so much more interesting to me as a deficit. She’s much more valuable to me for Cassian as an absence. As he says in the end, ‘Maybe I should stop saving people.’ His need to return and save people and to be a savior and the compulsion to do that comes from this hole in his life, and I didn’t really didn’t want to fill that in.”

It’s always possible in the Star Wars world that down the line, Andy Serkis’ Kino Loy or Cassian Andor’s mysterious sister will resurrect for another show or movie. But honestly, we hope not. Andor is perfect just as it is.

The Best TV and Film Trailers of 2025 (So Far)

Similar to beloved post-credits scenes, trailers are a part of the meal of a television series or film. They serve as an appetizer, giving us hints of the flavor profiles that comprise the impending main course. We all have a love-hate relationship with these promotional reels. Trailers can incite deep annoyance when sitting through 30 minutes of them in a theater, unless there’s something new that piques our interest.

But it’s absolutely more of a “heart-eyed emoji” feeling when a highly-anticipated trailer drops online and causes a social media frenzy. 2025 is no stranger to incredible TV shows and films that lived up to their awesome trailers as well as those who certainly teased cinematic greatness but missed the mark in their full form. Either way, we cannot resist watching a good trailer over and over again for a quick dopamine hit. Our hats go off to the creatives behind-the-scenes who carefully curate these clips.

still images from three of the best trailers of 2025Monkeypaw Productions/Sony Pictures/Paramount pictures

In no particular order, here are the best trailers of 2025 so far:

Sinners

Sinners hit theaters relatively early in 2025 and took the world by storm for quite a few valid reasons. Before we even got to see how truly rad this original vampire flick by director Ryan Coogler is, the trailers, specifically the second one, already had fans hooked. That one shows Michael B. Jordan doing double duty as twins Smoke and Stack, who return home to strum up a bluesy good time at a juke joint.

However, when the sun sets, something sinister threatens this safe haven and it suggests they will all have a bad night. The Sinners trailer honors Southern Black American culture and sets itself up as a horrifying period drama. Truly a chef’s kiss all around and one of the best trailers of 2025 for sure.

The Woman in the Yard

Today is the dayyyyy.

The Woman in the Yard didn’t quite live up to the greatness of its trailer in our very humble opinion, but that doesn’t take away from the effectiveness of this clip. It gives you just the right mixture of unsettling chill, dread, and jump scare along with a scary lil poem to make you want to head to the theaters.

All Hail the Haunting Woman Draped in a Black Dress

Danielle Deadwyler stars as a woman with her two small children in an idyllic home in the country. Their lives go awry when a very scary yet stylish lady in all black shows up in their yard and wants to come in. All horror film trailers are certainly not created equal, but The Woman in the Yard is how you take a film’s highlights and make them shine.

HIM

No one knows how to give you everything yet tell you nothing like Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw collective. HIM is yet another terrifying installment from this production company, directed by Justin Tipping, with a trailer that leaves us yearning for more.

To us, this clip is better than most films, thanks to striking imagery and Marlon Wayans taking on a more serious and unsettling persona than we’re used to from the beloved comedian. Weaving the world of football with horror is an inspired combination, indeed.

Doctor Who Season 2

Ncuti Gatwa the most stylish Doctor to ever hit our TV screens and incredibly fun to watch. The first season gave us plenty of camp and whimsy interspersed with drama and a dash of folk horror, the latter two resonating with a lot of fans. And, after its big season finale, we got a season two teaser that gave us a look into what seemed like a darker future for the series.

It boasts all the stunning visuals and strangeness we love about Doctor Who with a more serious tone overall. And the latest season is indeed living up to that, with some pretty sobering adventures that tackle painfully timely topics. If a trailer is an appetizer, then a teaser is just a morsel and this one is delicious.

Weapons

The good ole horror trope of creepy kids will never get old. Kids are weird and do strange things, and the thought of them being possessed and possibly murderous is terrifying. The trailer for Weapons gives us some great imagery and sets up the framework of this story without diving into any potentially spoilery specifics.

From what we can tell, it doesn’t dive into the film’s third act, a grave mistake that far too many trailers do. The premise is simple: an entire class of kids goes missing and no one knows why. We see some strange activity, poor Mrs. Gandy is going through it in more ways than one, we wanna know more. That’s the point of the trailer and exactly why Weapons is on our best of 2025 list.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

Nearly 30 years ago, Tom Cruise chose to accept his first mission as Ethan Hunt. It’s pretty hard to believe he’s still doing death-defying stunts during high-octane missions around the world. The trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning brings all of his biggest highlights full circle in this trailer, allowing us to relieve decades of action in just a few minutes. It ties perfectly into this final film and mission that will likely end Ethan’s enduring story. While it may not pack a super emotional wallop in the traditional sense, it certainly taps our nostalgia nerves in the best way.

Thunderbolts*

Sure, Thunderbolts* is about a ragtag group of antiheroes tasked to save the world. But, this trailer really taps into the deeper stories beneath that premise, setting up a tale of redemption, healing, and forming a new found family. What does it mean to have a higher calling and rise to the occasion? That’s what Yelena is set to figure out alongside this new band of powerful beings.

There’s not a bad trailer for Thunderbolts* but the final one expertly weaves the past, present, and future of this franchise together. The action, the gravitas… damn, this is a good trailer that reminds us why we fell in love with this franchise. Marvel still gives us some of the best trailers ever in 2025.

Andor Season 2

We can safely say that Andor is one of the best shows of the 21st century. And it is certainly the best Star Wars series to date. So it is no surprise that this series’ trailers are all absolute bangers. Just look at the material! A great rebellion led by the people, Cassian being the total boss that he is, and loads of action all come together for a rad clip.

Andor even gives us the ultimate flex of including quotes about its season one awesomeness while using visuals that say “you ain’t seen nothing yet.” It’s a bold move but the series indeed delivered a dazzling second and final season. Real GOAT vibes all around and an obvious choice for one of the best trailers of 2025.

28 Years Later

Everything about this clip is pure trailer perfection. Snarling undead, uncharted lands, and a poetic voiceover that sticks in your head on a loop are just a few of many things 28 Years Later gets right. Sometimes, it’s hard to get an audience invested in a sequel, especially one with no legacy characters. But, well, there’s nothing like a ruggedly handsome Aaron Taylor-Johnson fighting undead people with the Rage Virus to pique anyone’s attention. This trailer is frightening, frantic, and hella disturbing in a way that makes your heart pound every single time you press play.

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina

It’s no surprise that a John Wick prequel spinoff film would have nothing but the finest slate of trailers. We love them so much that we were willing to sit through watching an ice cube melt just to see new material. Ana de Armas is the graceful assassin Eve, better known as The Ballerina, goes toe to toe with the Baba Yaga as she goes on a mission to avenge her father’s death. Stylish and sleek, Ballerina deftly captures the essence of this gritty underworld of killers.

Superman

The wait for Superman’s official trailer felt far too long. Thankfully, it was worth it. The verbal sparring between Lois as she interviews Superman (she knows him!), the setup of an ungrateful world, and his hero’s journey to do what is just, even when others don’t recognize those efforts, is emotional and effective. Take this clip and inject it into our veins. Play it on a loop. It is addictive, poignant, and just as powerful as this Krypton hero.

Tron: Ares

When the original Tron film dropped in 1982, it was way ahead of its time conceptually and visually. Tron used heavy CGI before the general public really had a grasp on what that entailed. So it’s only right that over 40 years later there would be a sequel with a trailer that uses today’s technology in a dazzling way. Tron: Ares brings the digital world and AI right to humanity’s front door, and that ominous possibility shines brightly in the above clip.

M3GAN 2.0

C’mon, did you really think we’d leave our fave killer doll off the list. M3GAN 2.0‘s trailer is as weird and ridiculous as you’d think it would be. Just when you think it can’t get any more bizarre, it opens up five more suitcases of bizarre. The dancing diva is back after actual villain Gemma revives her to stop a government AI killing machine. Very nuts. Very entertaining. And a good use of a fab Britney Spears song.

Robert Downey Jr. Posts Pic of Recent DOOM Comic, a Possible AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Clue?

Filming has commenced on Avengers: Doomsday, and its titular star, Robert Downey Jr, has been sharing various photos from the set on social media. Nothing too spoilery of course, mostly just pics with himself and his castmates. But his most recent post, which we found out about via the folks at Collider, shows RDJ’s “Doom workstation essentials.” Most of these so-called “essentials” were things like a Tate’s Bakeshop latte and a pack of Kleenex. However, there was one clue as to how he was approaching his take on Doctor Doom. And that’s a copy of Marvel Comics’ Doom one-shot from last year, by Sanford Greene and Jonathan Hickman. You can see Robert Downey Jr.’s post below:

So what can we glean from this particular comic book’s inclusion in Robert Downey Jr’s post? After all, there are 60 years of great Dr. Doom comics to choose from, so why choose one that’s less than a year old? Well, in the official description for the comic, it says “With Valeria Richards at his side, Doom goes on a quest to harness more power than any human has ever wielded before in order to try to stop Galactus from bringing about the death of the universe.” All of that sounds like a likely scenario for Victor von Doom’s arc in the film, although Valeria Richards might be replaced with her brother, Franklin.

(Left) Doctor Doom by Sanford Greene (RIght) Robert Downey Jr. on set of Avengers: DoomsdayMarvel Comics/Marvel Studios

Doom co-writer Jonathan Hickman has been a big influence on the MCU. A lot of the characterization of Thanos came from Hickman’s work. Also, many of Thanos’ minions from Infinity War and Endgame are Hickman creations. In addition, the idea of Multiversal incursions is something Hickman came up with for his Avengers storyline, “Time Runs Out.” And it’s likely that Avengers: Secret Wars will draw a lot of inspiration from Hickman’s 2015 version of Secret Wars. Probably more than the original version. Hickman is one of the best writers to ever write words for Victor von Doom. So at least we know RDJ is looking at the right material when crafting his version of Marvel’s greatest villain.

Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY Is the First Film Shot Entirely with IMAX Film Cameras

One of the coolest aspects about cinema is the many ways that a film can be shot. These days, there are people making entire short films using an iPhone, which is fun and a great tool for indie and amateur filmmakers. And there are major and experienced filmmakers who use a variety of formats to make their big screen masterpieces come to life. Directing legend Christopher Nolan’s next big epic, The Odyssey, will be epic indeed because it is the first film shot with 70mm IMAX film cameras.

Now, we have to make a note about this distinction, specifically the word film. Many films, including the last two Avengers movies were shot with IMAX digital, not film, cameras. Ryan Coolger’s Sinners is shot on 65mm IMAX film cameras as well as in Ultra Panavision 70.

Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY Is the First Film Shot Entirely with IMAX Film Cameras_1Universal Pictures

So, this distinction of The Odyssey being the first shot entirely on 70mm IMAX film cameras is the truth. IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond revealed this during the Cannes Film Festival.

“Chris called me up and said, ‘If you can figure out how to solve the problems, I will make [Odyssey] 100 percent in Imax.’ And that’s what we’re doing,” Gelfond said. “He forced us to rethink that side of our business, our film recorders, our film cameras.”

Guessing Roles for Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY Cast: Who Plays Who in the Movie?

The cast for this film is just as epic as its format. It includes Robert Pattison, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, John Leguizamo, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, Mia Goth, Himesh Patel, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin, and Samantha Morton. We cannot wait to see if our above casting predictions are right or not.

We cannot wait to see what The Odyssey looks like when it hits theaters on July 17, 2026.

As the description for the 2024 Monster Manual shares, “This revised and expanded Monster Manual contains a horde of creatures for the fifth edition DUNGEONS & DRAGONS game—a monstrous menagerie of familiar favorites like dragons, giants, and mind flayers, plus a host of new monsters like the arch-hag, the blob of annihilation, and the vampire nightbringer.” The manual quickly became a must have for any D&D player. As mentioned, the D&D Icons of the Realms: Monster Manual Collection I is the first set of miniatures to use creature designs entirely from the 2024 Monster Manual. And you have to admit, these monsters have never looked better. We are absolutely obsessed with the level of detail and rendering that exists on these creaturs from the WizKids’ Monster Manual Collection I. The Ogre’s teeth look jagged and sharp. The Wight Web has spiky armor that we are literally jealous of and an awesome sword to boot. And the Red Dragon Wyrmling is cute and terrifying all at once. Test Screenings Changed the Ending of THUNDERBOLTS*

By now, most of you already know that the ending of Thunderbolts* results in the team receiving a rebrand as the New Avengers. But that big Avengers name-change reveal didn’t originally land the way director Jake Schreier wanted. In fact, test audiences were quick to inform Marvel Studios they really didn’t care for it. After hearing the feedback loud and clear, director Schreier went to Plan B. Here’s what he told Collider about how they tweaked the Thunderbolts* ending after negative audience feedback after an early screening.

When we were making the movie… it really is basically the same piece of music, and I was editing. In my head, I was like, ‘We’re going to go to that, she’s going to announce. Yelena will walk up. It’s building up, and then push in on a close-up of her face in the background. Hit the credits. You know she’s going to say it [the New Avengers]. Everyone’s going to cheer…’ And that didn’t happen.

Thunderbolts* team stands together in latest teaser trailerMarvel Studios

This led to a change in the way Marvel Studios presented the Thunderbolts* end credits. The final film had the credits roll over skeptical headlines questioning this B-list group of heroes as the official new Avengers team. We saw headlines saying things like “B-Vengers” and “Really?” Schreier said that executive producer Brian Chapek also felt the new credits gave time for the audience to process the idea that the Thunderbolts were now the New Avengers, before jumping into the “14 months later” post-credits scene.

The newly altered ending landed with the test audiences this time around, and that’s what they ultimately went with. Test screenings can sometimes damage movies terribly if every dumb comment someone makes has to be adhered to. But sometimes, it does legitimately help to improve the final edit of a film. We’d put Thunderbolts*/New Avengers in the latter category.

Warner Bros. CEO Says Supergirl Is the 4th Pillar of the Most Important DC Heroes

DC Studios is about to reveal their first live-action effort when James Gunn’s Superman hits theaters this summer. In advance of this make-it-or-break-it film, Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav recently stated that when it comes to the company’s DC Comics characters, the four cornerstones of their superhero universe are Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl. The entire DC brand will rest on their mighty shoulders. Via , we learned Zaslav said the following during a Warner Bros. investor’s call:

James Gunn and Peter Safran are developing with their 10-year plan around DC, that is to build asset value for us globally everywhere in the world, Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Supergirl. So those are — we look at those as big asset builders and big differentiators.

Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl stand side by side. Art by Nicola Scott.DC Comics

At the upfront presentation in New York, Zaslav also doubled down on the idea that these are the four pillars of DC. But does that ring true at all? Or is he just saying this because a Supergirl movie comes out next year? They need to prop the Girl of Steel up a little higher, perhaps. No doubt, Supergirl is one of DC Comics’ most iconic heroes. But DC’s fourth and fifth longest-running heroes are the Flash and Green Lantern. One of them should be the “4th pillar.” But since both the Green Lantern and Flash films were notorious flops, Warner Bros. doesn’t want to bring them up right now.

Including Supergirl as DC’s 4th pillar isn’t a terrible idea, it at least makes for a nice gender balance. If we’re counting sidekicks and spin-off heroes, realistically it should be Robin/Nightwing. But Dick Grayson doesn’t have a movie on the horizon, and Kara Zor-El does. Perhaps most interesting is that Zaslav mentions Wonder Woman here. Of course, she’s the third part of the DC Trinity, so it makes sense. But there is no Wonder Woman solo project announced, and the Amazon-related series Paradise Lost doesn’t seem to be moving forward at a brisk pace. Could Zaslav mentioning Wonder Woman mean we’re getting some sort of announcement soon? It could be. If Superman and Supergirl become hits, we imagine Diana will be dusting off her magic lasso soon enough.

Lois Lane Already Knows Clark Kent’s Big Secret in James Gunn’s SUPERMAN

Intrepid reporter Lois Lane not knowing Superman’s secret identity as Clark Kent is a story trope going back to 1938’s Action Comics #1, the Man of Steel’s first appearance. That conceit stuck around for decades after. But it looks like James Gunn’s new Superman is skipping that part of the mythos entirely. Or at least cutting it way down. When Lois (Rachel Brosnahan) interviews Clark (David Corenswet) in his street clothes in the new trailer, she says “Let me interview you as Superman.” It’s clear to the audience, she is in on the secret.

Lois Lane Already Knows Clark Kent’s Big Secret in James Gunn’s SUPERMAN_1DC Studios/Warner Bros.

The question remains, however, how long she’s known. Will she figure it out in the early parts of the movie, or will the movie begin with Lois already knowing? That’s still unclear. But all indications from the trailer suggest that by at least the midway point of Superman, Lois Lane will learn Clark’s secret. The two may already be a couple in this film, although that’s less certain. Honestly, this is a welcome change. The pair have been married for the better part of 30 years in the comics, and maybe her not knowing is a story beat that’s time has past.

Lois Lane tries to prove Clark Kent is Superman in the pages of Silver Age DC Comics.DC Comics

In the original DC Comics, Lois didn’t know for sure that her mild-mannered co-worker Clark was really Superman for over 50 years. She’d try and prove it, and then he’d find some way to make her look foolish. That stuck in almost all media interpretations, like the TV series The Adventures of Superman, cartoons, and Superman: The Movie. Sure, in Superman II, Lois (Margot Kidder) discovered the secret. But by the film’s end, Superman (somehow) used his magic kissing powers to make her forget. It wasn’t until 1991 that DC finally decided to pull the trigger allowing Lois to know Clark’s identity for real.

Lois Lane Already Knows Clark Kent’s Big Secret in James Gunn’s SUPERMAN_2DC Comics

The reveal happened in 1991’s Action Comics #662. By 1996, the pair of Daily Planet reporters were married. Now, they even have a kid. Or kids plural, if you’re talking about the CW series Superman and Lois. Yes, in many ways James Gunn’s Superman is a reaction against the gritty world of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, but inarguably one thing that movie did right was that Amy Adams always knew Clark was Superman, from the get-go. So, credit where credit is due. We are glad that is something Gunn is sticking with. Lois Lane is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist. Keeping her in the dark on Clark’s secret only makes her look dumb, and makes Clark look like a jerk.

Lois Lane Already Knows Clark Kent’s Big Secret in James Gunn’s SUPERMAN_3Warner Bros.

Obviously, the secret identity thing will still be in play with everyone else in Clark’s orbit. It’s doubtful Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, and the rest of the Daily Planet staff will know the truth. But it’s just a different vibe when Superman keeps the secret from someone he is intimate with on the level Lois is. As the comics and shows like Superman and Lois have shown, this romantic pairing works best when they are a power couple who share everything, open and honest with each other. And we’re glad James Gunn is keeping things more modern and less retro in that regard.
