X-MEN 3’s Juggernaut Actor Turned Down Cameo in DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE

After years of speculating, in 2022, Marvel Studios confirmed that Deadpool would officially join the MCU for a third installment of the R-rated comic book franchise at the start of Phase Six. This would mark the first official character of the Fox X-Men universe joining the MCU (although Patrick Stewart as a variant Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness kinda counts too, we suppose).

Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut in X-Men The Last Stand20th Century Fox

Although Deadpool & Wolverine will likely be riddled with cameos, one character we won’t see reappear is  Vinnie Jones’ Juggernaut. Jones recently shared, “Funnily enough, I just got asked to do Deadpool, the new one now, and I spoke to the director and I just said it’s such a drama putting that suit on mentally and physically. I mean, it had its mental toll as well, because you’re in it and you can’t do anything all day, you can only drink through a straw. So we couldn’t strike the deal for Deadpool [& Wolverine].

However, the actor has nothing but love for the franchise. He noted, “Deadpool’s my favorite movie of all f***ing time more or less. I really wanted to do it, but they didn’t have the budget to put me in the suit.”

Here is everything we know so far about Deadpool & Wolverine.

TitleThe Deadpool 3 logo.Marvel Studios

Thanks to a Super Bowl trailer (check it out below!), we know that this film, formerly called Deadpool 3, is actually Deadpool & Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s Plot

The plot of Deadpool & Wolverine remains a mystery. All we know is that Hugh Jackman is returning as Wolverine, and that it takes place before the feral X-Man’s death in Logan. In fact, Jackman has confirmed that time travel will be involved in the threequel in a big way.

As most folks know by now, Deadpool’s third solo film will reunite him with his X-Men Origins: Wolverine co-star. Deadpool and Wolverine will work together, although they have made it very clear that these two characters “hate each other.” It will not be a love-fest in this story. But the fact that Deadpool & Wolverine is smack in the middle of the Multiverse Saga should give us all a clue as to what’s going to go down, and probable multiversal shenanigans will ensue.

Dogpool, of course, will also star.

Make sure to follow him on Instagram.

We also now know what Deadpool & Wolverine‘s new official logo looks like thanks to a fun poster.

We know Hugh Jackman will return, along with the very obvious Ryan Reynolds. Here’s who else we know about: Karan Soni, cab driver Dopinder, Leslie Uggams, Emma Corrin, and Matthew Macfadyen. In exciting news, Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic are reprising their roles as Vanessa and Colossus in Deadpool & Wolverine. So are Rob Delaney’s Peter, Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), and Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio). Jennifer Garner’s Elektra from the 2003 Daredevil Marvel Fox movie is also reported to reprise her role in this MCU film.

Behind the Scenes

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s director for this third outing will be Shawn Levy, most recently known for his work on Stranger Things. This would be a reunion for Levy and Reynolds, as the pair previously worked together on the movie Free Guy. Levy is also known for the time travel movie The Adam Project.

On the writing side of things are Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, writers for the popular animated series Bob’s Burgers. The writers for the first two Deadpool films, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, are also contributing to movie number three’s screenplay, as is Ryan Reynolds himself.

X-MEN ’97 Reveals Episode Titles, Release Date, Trailers, and More

On September 20, 1997, a dying Charles Xavier said goodbye to his fellow mutants. That left them to navigate a dangerous world without their wise leader. At least they would have had to if Fox hadn’t canceled X-Men: The Animated Series. What awaited Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Beast, and the rest with the Professor? We’re finally going to find out. At long last, the show’s highly-anticipated Disney reboot, Marvel Animation’s X-Men ’97, has both a trailer and a release date. The series has even revealed the names of its anticipated episodes.

It also has a surprise new owner of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.

X-Men ’97 Picks Up Where The Animated Series Left Off

Bust out your best pogs and crack open a can of Surge soda cause the ’90s are back. X-Men: The Animated Series will get to resume its story on Disney+ with X-Men ’97. The show’s first trailer picks up right where the old series left off, too. The death of Professor X means the team needs a new leader to emerge. They’ll also be forced to deal with an old enemy who will now have an even bigger role in their lives. Charles Xavier left everything he had to none other than Magneto.

That will make for a whole lot of fun. For us. That will be fun for us, not the X-Men.

X-Men ’97 has revealed the titles of its ten episodes. The series will conclude with a three-part arc titled “Tolerance is Extinction.” Of course, eagle-eyed fans will already be drawing connections to other X-Men lore from comics, cartoons, and beyond. What Easter eggs do you spy in this line-up of titles?

For the curious, X-Men ’97‘s head writer, Beau DeMayo confirmed on Instagram that X-Men ’97 would not be a part of the MCU’s continuity. He replied, “We are our own thing,” while answering a question that pondered whether the series would be canon to the MCU.

The Series Cast and Production Team

Disney also announced the cast for the show. X-Men ’97 stars: Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, JP Karliak as Morph, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, AJ LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, Matthew Waterson as Magneto, and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler. Theo James also joins the cast in a mysterious role.

Jake Castorena, Chase Conley, and Emi Yonemura serve as the ten-episode season’s directors, with Beau DeMayo on as head writer.

When Is X-Men ’97‘s Release Date?

Despite this being the first trailer for a reboot more than 25 years in the making, we won’t have to wait long to see its first episode. X-Men ’97 premieres on Disney+ on March 20. X-Men ’97 will run for 10 episodes. The series will release its first two episodes on the 20th.

Obviously, mutants are just as eager to resume their story as we are to see what happens to them next.

INSIDE OUT 2 Trailer Introduces Everyone’s BFF Anxiety and Other Fun Emotions

Gee, thanks, Disney Pixar! Way to remind us that growing up is hard to do. But it turns out that it is, even for animated children becoming animated teenagers. The latest trailer for the much-anticipated sequel to Inside Out, aptly named Inside Out 2, spotlights Anxiety, Envy, Ennui (boredom/angst), and Embarrassment. These are all very frequent emotions for teenagers, obviously. Everyone, please make Anxiety and friends feel very welcome…

It happens to us all. Demolition day and BAM. Anxiety, boredom, and jealousy have moved in. We have to say that Inside Out 2‘s trailer has captured the spirit of anxiety very well… Too well… We honestly can’t look this trailer directly in the eye. Anxiety is perfectly voiced by Maya Hawke (a.k.a. Robin Buckley from Stranger Things), And she’s already apologizing for not getting it right. Nooooo! And even worse, she’s not the only one to arrive. Inside Out 2 also features Embarrassment (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and Envy (Paul Walter Hauser). This movie does not look like it intends to slow its roll.

INSIDE OUT 2 introduces new emotions anxietyDisney PixarInside Out 2 Synopsis Dives Into Anxiety and Other New Emotions

Along with the trailer, Disney and Pixar revealed a lengthy new synopsis for Inside Out 2. It shares:

The little voices inside Riley’s head know her inside and out—but next summer, everything changes when Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 introduces a new Emotion: Anxiety. According to director Kelsey Mann, the new character promises to stir things up within headquarters. “Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke, might be new to the crew, but she’s not really the type to take a back seat,” said Mann. “That makes a lot of sense if you think about it in terms of what goes on inside all our minds.” A trailer, poster and film stills are now available for what promises to be the feel-good (or feel-everything) film of Summer 2024.

Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone. Maya Hawke lends her voice to Anxiety, alongside Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear, and Liza Lapira as Disgust.

Well, there you have it. Inside Out 2 arrives on June 14, 2024. We’re not quite sure it will make us feel “good” but we bet it will definitely hit hard.

PARASYTE: THE GREY Trailer Brings Parasitic Aliens to Earth

Parasyte fans, rejoice! Fans of the Japanese body horror manga and anime will get a chance to dive into this world from a South Korean perspective in live-action form. Netflix’s Parasyte: The Grey is set in the same world where the very cool Shinichi Izumi’s story took place as he learned to deal with Migi, the parasitic organism that took over his right hand. The teaser trailer for Parasyte: The Grey introduces a new tale of humanity rising up against a threat.

In the Parasyte: The Grey trailer, we immediately jump into the perspective of the humanoid parasites who must take over human bodies to live. Because they look like humans, it’s pretty easy to integrate themselves into society and gain people’s trust. When the time is right, they reveal themselves in a rather dramatic fashion as their heads separate into long tentacles with their eyes hanging in the balance or even separating. It’s quite the fun spectacle for us to witness, although I’m sure the people in this universe are not enjoying it at all. As usual, the military tries to fight back, but, well, there’s not much you can do against beings who can whip their tentacles around and beat others up.

There is one woman in this trailer who moves much differently than her counterparts. She doesn’t seem down with this takeover, so we can assume she’s the Shinichi of this narrative. Based on Parasyte: The Grey’s trailer, it seems that you can have a little—or a lot—of knowledge about the source material and still enjoy this series. I am always down for body horror, so I’ll give it a go. Plus, the director is Yeon Sang-Ho, who gave us Hellbound and the absolutely brilliant Train to Busan

When Does Netflix’s Parasyte: The Grey Series Premiere?image of parasite alien in parasyte the grey trailerNetflix

We won’t have to wait long to see what happens in this series. Parasyte: The Grey‘s trailer reveals that it hits Netflix on April 5.

James Gunn’s Main SUPERMAN Movie Inspirations, Explained

James Gunn’s new Superman film, titled simply Superman, has just begun filming. And many fans are wondering just what bits of Superman media Gunn is using as his source material for his new take. Well, in a post in Instagram, Gunn shared several images which show where he drew inspiration for his take on the Last Son of Krypton. Some are from comics, some from animation. But all are iconic in their own way.

Superman: The Movie (1978)Christopher Reeve flies over Metropolis in Superman: The Movie.Warner Bros.

In the post, James Gunn answers a fan question on his inspirations “other than the Donner films.” That is a reference to Richard Donner, who directed 1978’s Superman: The Movie and much of Superman II. We know that the Donner Superman films starring Christopher Reeve are a key inspiration, as Lex Luthor’s minions Otis and Eve Teschmacher from those movies are in the film.

Superman #1 (1940)The back cover for 1939's Superman #1 by Joe Shuster.DC Comics

The first image Gunn showed was a very early Joe Shuster drawing of the Man of Steel breaking out of chains, from the back cover of Superman #1 from 1939. This gives us an indication that, in many ways, Gunn is going back to the very beginning of Superman’s earliest comic book adventures.

All-Star Superman (2008)Superman saves a suicidal woman in a famous panel from All-Star Superman #10, by artist Frank Quitely.DC Comics

The next comic book inspiration is from writer Grant Morrison’s seminal 2005-2008 series All-Star Superman. Specifically, issue #10. This famous image from artist Frank Quitely sums up everything that Kal-El is about. We see Superman save a suicidal person from taking their own life, by talking to them and showing love and compassion. This single page captures Superman’s essence in a nutshell.

Max Fleischer’s Superman (1941)a cel from Max Fleischer's 1941 Superman animated shorts.DC Comics

The following image Gunn posted was from the Max Fleischer animated shorts from 1941. These popular shorts were crucial in forming many signature traits of Superman’s, such as his ability to fly and not just “leap tall building in a single bound.” That costume featured a yellow border around the “S” shield, something the new cinematic costume will also have.

Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? (1986)Interior and cover art for Superman #423, Alan Moore's DC Comics

Next, Gunn showed off an iconic page of despondent Superman with his dog Krypto in his arctic fortress. It’s illustrated by Curt Swan and George Perez, from the classic Alan Moore story “Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?” This story closed out the Silver Age/Bronze Age era of Superman comics, before the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths reboot Man of Steel. As already indicated by Gunn, this seems to assure us that Superman will have his Fortress of Solitude.

Superman Annual #6 (1962)A Superman Family pin-up from artist Curt Swan from 1962's Superman Annual #6.DC Comics

This image, by perhaps the artist most identified with the character, Curt Swan, is from Superman Annual #6 from 1962. It epitomizes the Superman of the Silver Age, with his vast family of characters. There’s Supergirl, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, his friends the Legion of Super-Heroes, and villains like Mxyzsptlk and Bizarro. This seems to indicate Clark will have a large extended family of characters in this movie, adding fuel to the fire that Milly Alcock’s Supergirl will appear.

New 52 Action Comics (2011)The young New 52 era Superman from Action Comics (2011). Art by Michael Choi.DC Comics

The next image is far more recent, from the New 52 reboot of Superman from 2011. In this cover from Action Comics #4 by Michael Choi, we see a young Clark in his earliest hero days, before he could fly, and wore a t-shirt, jeans, and boots. Oh, and a little cape. It’s not really Superman without the cape, is it? This reboot harkened back to the Superman of 1938, when he was a “working man’s hero,” who fought corrupt politicians and elected officials in the Depression. This is yet another example of a Grant Morrison take on Superman serving as inspiration.

Kingdom Come/Justice Society of America (1996, 2010)The Superman of the Kingdom Come world joins the Justice Society of America. Art by Alex Ross.DC Comics

Superman from the universe of Mark Waid and Alex Ross’ Elseworlds 1996 mini-series Kingdom Come is next. Or rather, that older Superman’s appearance in the Justice Society of America story “Thy Kingdom Come” in the 2000s, when he crossed from the Kingdom Come universe to the “main” DC Earth. That story told of Clark Kent after he’d retired when a personal tragedy drove him away from Metropolis. The “S” shield design in the new movie is almost identical to Kingdom Come’s Superman, only without the black.

Superman: The Animated Series (1996)Clark Kent opens his shirt revealing his Superman costume in the opening credits of Superman: The Animated Series.Warner Bros. Animation

Superman: The Animated Series debuted in 1996, set in the same world as Batman: The Animated Series. This image Gunn shared is from the show’s opening credits. The Superman of this series drew inspiration from the ’80s reboot of the character, particularly the evil CEO version of Lex Luthor. The show’s Metropolis was very art déco-inspired, which could play out in Gunn’s film. Creator Bruce Timm and Paul Dini largely reinvented the villain Brainiac for this series, as a Kryptonian AI. Maybe it’s a hint that he plays a part in the new film?

Superman For All Seasons (1995)Clark Kent says farewell to Smallville in art by Tim Sale, for the mini-series Superman For All Seasons.DC Comics

The late Tim Sale’s art from the four-issue mini-series Superman For All Seasons, written by Jeph Loeb, is next. It shows Clark Kent saying goodbye to his father Jonathan Kent as he prepares to leave Smallville for Metropolis. It has an almost Normal Rockwell quality to it, which may translate well to the big screen. Gunn has stated many times that the series Superman For All Seasons would be a big influence on his film. Showing this page is just another example.

Action Comics (2021)Superman and Lois share a kiss in the sky in Action Comics #1035 with art by Daniel Sampere.DC Comics

Lastly, the most recent image used is from 2021’s Action Comics #1035, with a page from current Wonder Woman artist Daniel Sampare. It shows a married Lois and Clark take to the sky where they kiss under the stars. This lets us know that the love story between the two ace Daily Planet reporters is going to play a key factor in the DCU’s new Superman film.

LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL Trailer Gives the Devil a TV Guest Appearance

Halloween night is the perfect time for something sinister to happen. The veil is thin between the world of the living and the realm of the dead. People are wandering the streets in strange garb while seeking candy and mayhem. And, if you’re in Haddonfield, there just might be a tall man in a white mask who stalks babysitters and wanders the streets. Nowhere feels truly safe except maybe the confines of your own home. Even then, evil can somehow find you through your television, especially if there’s some greedy dude who succeeds at “communing” with the Devil. Now that’s one hell of a horror movie premise. In fact, it’s the plot of Late Night with the Devil, IFC’s upcoming flick with a trailer that promises live television chaos.

The film stars David Dastmalchian as a late-night TV show host who hopes to get his ratings up. Of course, there’s nothing like the drama and spine chilling fear of summoning evil to do the trick. This seems like the absolute worst idea, especially when America is on the cusp of all-out Satanic Panic.

Here’s the synopsis:

October 31, 1977. Johnny Carson rival Jack Delroy hosts a syndicated late night talk show ‘Night Owls’ that has long been a trusted companion to insomniacs around the country. A year after the tragic death of Jack’s wife, ratings have plummeted. Desperate to turn his fortunes around, Jack plans a Halloween special like no other, unaware that he is about to unleash evil into the living rooms of America.

Well, this sounds absolutely delicious. I can’t say I envy those folks in the live audience. The trailer for Late Night with the Devil reads almost like a surreal documentary and looks delightfully ‘70s.

Ming-Na Wen Joins New KARATE KID Movie

Cobra Kai is coming to an end, but Daniel LaRusso’s story is not. Ralph Macchio is returning to the big screen for an all-new The Karate Kid movie. Only this installment will combine generations of big-screen entries. Jackie Chan, who joined the series in a 2010 reboot as the Kung Fu master and mentor Mr. Han, will join him in the Karate Kid film. They’ll teach Ben Wang, star of American Born Chinese, who is taking on the titular role. They conducted a global casting search to find their lead.

Sony conducted a global casting search to find their lead with the above video from Macchio and Chan. That open call reportedly received 10,000 entries in the first 24 hours. But Wang delivered a standout audition demonstrating his martial arts skills.

While the studio is not yet releasing plot details for the film, in a press release, Sony said it will bring Macchio and Chan “together to continue the mythology of the original franchise.” Variety reports Ming-Na Wen is joining the cast, though we don’t know who she will play.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANTS UNLEASHED Game Continues MUTANT MAYHEM Story

The animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem film knocked everyone’s socks off last summer. Although Paramount is planning a spin-off series, as well as a sequel, the latter won’t arrive for quite a while. In the meantime, we’ve learned (via IGN) that a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed 3D action platformer game will keep the Mutant Mayhem going. It will launch in the fourth quarter of 2024 from publisher Outright Games. Mutants Unleashed will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam and Windows.

In Mutants Unleashed, players defend New York just like Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael, and Donatello. The game can be played as a single-player or a two-player local co-op. New York City’s five boroughs will also feature, inspired by the Mutant Mayhem film. You can read the official synopsis for Mutants Unleashed right here, as well as check out several screenshots of the boys in action in our gallery above.

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed, after finally being accepted into society and pursuing their dream of attending a regular high school, the Turtles’ newfound happiness is abruptly interrupted by a new wave of mutants causing unrest across New York City. Players take control of the four masked heroes, each with their own unique playstyle, as they traverse the sewers and city streets of New York. With an immersive world to explore both above and below ground, meet familiar faces as the ragtag heroes in a half shell gear up to delight fans at home with their chaotic capers. Players can get ready to order in a pizza and adventure solo or team up with a friend in two player local co-op mode later this year.

A different Ninja Turtles game based on the Last Ronin comic is also in development at Black Forest Games. That one won’t tie into the new animated universe, however. Mutants Unleashed should keep fans of the film happy until the sequel arrives in theaters in 2026. The game arrives in the latter half of this year.
