FLASH Star Grant Gustin Celebrates His Character’s Disappearance Date
The Flash TV series might have ended last year after nine seasons, but it’s still alive in the hearts of its fans. The CW series premiered back in 2014, and the very first episode teased an ominous event in Barry Allen’s future. A future newspaper headline showed the audience that on April 25, 2024, the Flash, longtime hero of Central City, would vanish in a “crisis.” As fans have commemorated the April 25 date, Flash actor Grant Gustin posted a photo on his Instagram assuring us all that he has, in fact, not vanished. He’s even wearing a Flash bathrobe to let us know he’s still around. The photo is from 2016, but the joke still lands.
The April 25, 2024 newspaper headline shown in the series premiere teased long-term plans for the series—plans that would actually all play out. However, the “Flash vanishes in crisis” date would be pushed up five years, to the year 2019. That was so they could pay off this story in the Arrowverse Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event. In a twist, however, the Flash who vanishes in the crisis event is actually not Gustin’s Barry Allen. It’s John Wesley Shipp, who played Barry Allen in the 1990 Flash TV series. And, actually, he doesn’t vanish; he dies saving the entire Multiverse, just like in the comics.

While it’s unlikely Gustin will play the Scarlet Speedster again in James Gunn’s new DCU, Gunn has confirmed that he is a big Grant Gustin fan. We actually think the DCU’s Flash should be Wally West, Barry’s former sidekick who takes up the Flash mantle. If they need a Barry to cameo for that series or do flashbacks, though? You couldn’t find a better Barry than Grant Gustin. It’s nice to see that Gustin is still having fun with the role that made him famous. Hey, Lynda Carter still regularly posts Wonder Woman memes, and she hasn’t played the role since 1979! What’s good enough for Diana Prince is good enough for Barry Allen.

Russell Crowe Fights Demonic Possession in THE EXORCISM Trailer
Russell Crowe has a thing for exorcisms. In 2023, we watched him be a very unserious person while he fought demons as the Pope’s personal exorcist. The Pope’s Exorcist didn’t hold back on the holy horror splatter at all. Now, Russell Crowe is once again battling malevolent forces in The Exorcism, which is a completely different story, as we see in its first trailer.
This story actually highlights yet another common trope in horror films. Some group of people want to make a scary movie and somehow open themselves up to some legitimate hauntings and/or possession. Things are fine at first until strange stuff starts to happen. Usually one person starts unraveling mentally, leaving those around them wondering if they are just in need of help or if there’s truly something scary happening. The first trailer for The Exorcism doesn’t give away too many additional details, but there’s a chaotic and yelling Russell Crowe who ends up being possessed. That’s probably enough for many folks to check this movie out.
Here’s a synopsis of the film:
What Is the Release Date for Russell Crowe’s The Exorcism Movie?Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe stars as Anthony Miller, a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film. His estranged daughter, Lee (Ryan Simpkins), wonders if he’s slipping back into his past addictions or if there’s something more sinister at play. The film also stars Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg and David Hyde Pierce.

I am totally here to see Chloe Bailey win. I know she’s super vulnerable to something bad happening because she’s portraying the possessed person in this movie-within-a-movie. But maybe she will be the last woman standing! We will have to see what happens when The Exorcism hits theaters this summer on June 7.

Extended, Remastered THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy Coming to Theaters For First Time
Fans of Middle-earth might want to get a huge pot of potatoes cooking. They’re going to need a whole lot of sustenance for a very long journey this summer. They also might want to get some comfortable pants. For the first time ever the remastered, extended versions of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy is coming to the big screen.

In news we first heard at The Hollywood Reporter, Fathom Events is partnering with Warner Bros. for a special cinematic event. All three The Lord of the Rings movies are coming back to the big screen in June. The Fellowship of the Ring will return to theaters on June 8. The next day, on June 9, humans, dwarves, and elves can hunker down for a viewing of The Two Towers. And on June 10 the three-day celebration will come to an end with The Return of the King.
This is an extra special re-release. Fathom Events is not only showing the (superior) extended versions of the movies, though. It is showing Jackson’s 2020 remastered versions of the film. Fans first got to see those via a 4K Ultra HD home release. However, they have never been seen in theaters.

Frodo supporters and Sauron backers alike can get their tickets at local participating locations. Among the chains participating in the Middle-earth fest are AMC, Cinemark, and Regal. Other theaters are also getting in on the Tolkien fun, as well, so look to see if your preferred theater is among them. Tickets are already on sale via Fathom Event’s website.
Those who opt to see all three movies in three days will spend more than 11-and-a-half hours watching the complete extended trilogy. That’s almost enough time to walk to Mordor yourself, assuming you have a special ring that keeps you invisible to both orcs and frustrated family members.

KEEPER OF THE LOST CITIES Book 9.5’s Cover Puts the Spotlight on Keefe
Keefe Sencen is a key character in Shannon Messenger’s Keeper of the Lost Cities series. Since the first book in the fantasy series released in 2012, his character has taken all kinds of delicious twists and turns. From devil-may-care troublemaker to serious spy, Keefe always surprises. We’ll learn a lot more about the Keefster in the next book in the Keeper of the Lost Cities, Unraveled. This is book 9.5, a full-length novel that bridges what happened in Stellarlune (book 9) and what will happen in book 10 of the series. It’s told from Keefe’s point of view, and appropriately, Keefe takes center stage on the cover. Take a look at the cover of Unraveled, Keeper of the Lost Cities book 9.5.

Jason Chan’s art sets the tone for the book, but don’t take it from me. Shannon Messenger tells Nerdist, “Since this is book 9.5 in the series, and written in a new character’s POV, we wanted a cover that matched the others—but also made it clear this book is a little bit different. So there’s no Sophie this time (gasp!) and we went with a human city for the setting, because Unraveled is all about Keefe’s adventures in the human world. I love how the final art captures both the scene and the mood of the story—and how could I not adore a cover that’s totally Keefe! Keefe! Keefe! Jason Chan never ceases to amaze me with how perfectly he draws my characters and his absolutely breathtaking imagery.”
I don’t know if we’re ready for all the antics Keefe will run into as he tries to navigate the world of humans. But if there’s one thing we can say about Keefe, it’s that he’s always trying his best. We can’t wait to spend time with his perspective. He’s been through a lot, but Keefe usually manages to be entertaining in spite of it.
The description for Unraveled states:
Please be careful. Please be happy. And PLEASE forget all about me. It’ll be better for everyone that way.
Those were the last words Keefe Sencen wrote to Sophie Foster before he ran away to the Forbidden Cities. He didn’t want to leave, but it was the only way to keep his friends safe while he figured out how to control his scary new powers and searched for answers about his past.
What he found was so much more than adventures in Humanland.
Where did he go? What did he do? And who did he meet while the rest of his friends worked to solve the mystery of Stellarlune? The answers go far beyond anything anyone could have ever imagined, and give Keefe the power to change his destiny.
Oh boy, Humanland. While I will miss the Lost Cities, I’m curious to spend more time in the world I know. Unraveled, Keeper of the Lost Cities book 9.5, will arrive on November 12, 2024. It can’t get here fast enough. You can place a pre-order now.

Fantasy Tudor-era Series MY LADY JANE Reveals Premiere Date and First Images
If you’re a fan of Bridgerton and period dramas that center women in a way that doesn’t scream “damsel in distress,” then there’s a new series that you might enjoy. Prime Video’s My Lady Jane—inspired by the best-selling novel series—is a romance series set in an alternate fantasy Tudor world. It will premiere on the streaming service this summer with lots of energetic adventure, comedy, and a heavy dose of drama. Check out the first-look images of My Lady Jane below:

As you can see, it certainly delivers in the aesthetic department. Here’s a synopsis of the series to give you a clearer picture of what’s going down.
…My Lady Jane is a radical retelling of English royal history, in which King Henry VIII’s son Edward does not die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Grey is not beheaded, and neither is her rascal of a husband Guildford. At the center of this rollicking new series is the brilliant and headstrong Jane who is unexpectedly crowned queen overnight and finds herself the target of nefarious villains coming for the crown (and her head)… My Lady Jane is an epic tale of true love and high adventure, where the damsel in distress saves herself, her true love, and then the Kingdom.
Gird your loins for the tragic tale of Lady Jane Grey, the young Tudor noblewoman who was Queen of England for nine days and then beheaded in 1553… F*ck that. We’re retelling history the way it should have happened: the damsel in distress saves herself. This is an epic tale of true love and high adventure set in an alt-universe of action, history, fantasy, comedy, romance, and rompy-pompy. Buckle up.
Well that sounds absolutely thrilling! The My Lady Jane TV series stars newcomer Emily Bader as Jane Grey alongside Edward Bluemel as Guildford Dudley. Jordan Peters portrays King Edward. Dominic Cooper is Lord Seymour, Anna Chancellor plays Jane’s mother Lady Frances Grey, and Rob Brydon is Lord Dudley, Guildford’s father. Jim Broadbent will be the Duke of Leicester, a.k.a. Jane’s uncle. Henry Ashton plays Guildford’s brother Stan and Isabelle Brownson and Robyn Betteridge are portraying Jane’s two sisters. Rounding out the cast are Kate O’Flynn and Abbie Hern as the King’s sisters Princess Mary and Princess Bess, respectively.
One thing I particularly love is that there’s an all-woman team behind My Lady Jane. Creator Gemma Burgess is co-showrunner/executive producer along with Meredith Glynn. Jamie Babbit directs five of the eight episodes and is a producing director/executive producer. Sarah Bradshaw and Laurie MacDonald are executive producers.
What Is the Premiere Date for Prime Video’s My Lady Jane?
My Lady Jane will hit Prime Video on June 27, so a trailer should be coming our way pretty soon. It is currently not clear if all eight episode will drop at once.

Could X-MEN’s Famke Janssen Return as Jean Grey in DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE?
With so many X-Men characters from the Fox film franchise returning in Deadpool & Wolverine, can we expect to see Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey among them? Janssen previously stated she would not be back for the forthcoming film, but now she’s singing a more uncertain tune. Here’s what she had to say when speaking to the folks at Comic Book about a potential comeback as the host of the Phoenix Force in Deadpool & Wolverine:
I don’t know. I doubt it, but you never know. I mean, I didn’t expect to come back after dying as Jean Grey. I came back as the Phoenix [in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand], and I came back in flashback scenes in The Wolverine, and then in Days of Future Past.

It’s now been a decade since the actress portrayed Jean in Days of Future Past, which came out in 2014. Her role was recast with Sophie Turner for the pair of X-Men prequel films, X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. Nevertheless, fans have wanted to see the original Jean return ever since the altered timeline undid her death at the end of X-Men: The Last Stand. Why bring her and other dead X-Men back if not to use them in something down the line?
So far, the non-Hugh Jackman actors confirmed as coming back for Deadpool & Wolverine are all relatively minor players. We’re talking characters like Deathstrike, Pyro, Sabretooth, and Toad. But what about the main X-Men cast themselves? Patrick Stewart keeps hinting there’s more Professor Charles Xavier in his future. James Marsden has made similar hints about returning as Cyclops. Last year, Halle Berry showed off a photograph of herself in Storm’s signature white hairdo. If all of them return, then we imagine Jean Grey is coming back to the fold as well. We’re crossing our fingers for this Phoenix to rise from the ashes.

The Marvel Comics History of Bastion, the Main Villain of X-MEN ’97
Promos had us believing the “Big Bad” of X-Men ’97 was going to be Mister Sinister. After episode six of season one, “Bright Eyes,” it turns out Sinister was just working for the Big Bad, who is a somewhat lesser-known X-Men comic book villain named Bastion. He’s voiced by White Lotus star Theo James. The series has dropped hints about Bastion all season, but now we know he’s the principal villain. So just who is this antagonist with a deep hatred of mutants, and what are his ties to some of the most lethal enemies the X-Men have ever faced, the Sentinels? Let’s unpack the bizarre history of this X-Men ’97 bad guy.

Bastion was a creation of writer Mark Waid and artist Andy Kubert, and debuted in 1996’s X-Men (vol.2) #52. He was the primary villain in the X-Men’s 1997 crossover event “Operation: Zero Tolerance.” In a way, Bastion is a new iteration of two classic X-Men foes: the Sentinel-creating Master Mold, and Nimrod, the advanced Sentinel robot from an alternate future. To explain how these robotic killing machines that target mutants became a (mostly) flesh and blood being named Bastion, we have to get into the powerful magic of the Siege Perilous.
Bastion Is of Both Technological and Mystical OriginsIn the 1987 crossover event “The Fall of the Mutants,” the X-Men died saving the city of Dallas from an ancient evil called the Adversary. This is the very same supernatural being that caused Storm so much trouble recently on X-Men ’97. Although the X-Men died heroically, the goddess Roma resurrected them all as a reward for their bravery. Now invisible to all forms of human surveillance, they could strike at their enemies unnoticed. During this era, they lived in the Australian Outback, hiding from the world.

Roma gave the X-Men an “out” in the form of an ancient magical device called the Siege Perilous. It could open a portal, allowing anyone to walk through it to get a second chance at life. The Siege would judge you, and if worthy, you kept your memories of your previous life intact. If not, it erased your memory, and you were reborn with a new life. Five X-Men walked through it. One of them was Rogue, who went through during a pitched battle with Master Mold and Nimrod. She took the killer robots through with her. This occurred in 1989’s Uncanny X-Men #247. Rogue was reborn, memory intact, and because the Sentinels were machines, no one thought of them as alive and capable of mystical rebirth. They were wrong.
Part Master Mold, Part Nimrod, Part Human
The Master Mold/Nimrod hybrid came out of the Siege Perilous, now a total amnesiac. The mystical device had created a humanoid male body for it. Like many who went through before, the hybrid had no memory. A woman by the name of Rose Gilberti took him in. The amnesiac man bonded with the kind-hearted Rose, and she adopted him as a surrogate son, and even gave him her surname. He was now Sebastion Gilberti, or “Bastion” for short. Eventually hearing about the world’s “mutant problem” it triggered the anti-mutant part of his being. Bastion soon fell in with anti-mutant groups, like the hateful Friends of Humanity. Ultimately, this led him to government agencies where he knew he could do some real damage to the mutant community.
Bastion Initiates Operation: Zero Tolerance
With Bastion’s anti-mutant protocols activated once more, he started to organize an international anti-mutant strike force, named Operation: Zero Tolerance, or OZT for short. Deciding that the old model Sentinels were outdated, no doubt due to his being part “Future Sentinel” himself, he implanted several humans secretly with nano-technology. They were designated Prime Sentinels. These Prime Sentinels were all sleeper agents, programmed with nanotech, becoming mutant-hunting machines when activated by OZT. The X-Men and SHIELD defeat Bastion, but he keeps finding a way to make life miserable for mutants. Bastion is currently dead, but in the world of the X-Men, that is never permanent.
Bastion’s Powers and Abilities
Bastion is extremely powerful, especially as an advanced Sentinel given human form by mystical means. He has super strength, speed, flight, and agility. Like more rudimentary Sentinels, he can adapt to the powers of his mutant opponent. He can create mechanical weapons from his own body on a whim, and deploy deadly energy blasts. Much like the Borg on Star Trek, he had access to the Sentinel hive mind. Thanks to the techno-organic virus that creates Prime Sentinels, he can essentially reanimate the dead.

Similar to Star Trek’s Borg Queen, he can control all of his Prime Sentinel drones from any distance. Bastion also has the power of technopathy, meaning he can control all mechanical and electronic devices with a thought. When damaged, he can self-repair as well. Through techno-kinetic manipulation, he can alter his appearance. He can even time travel to the alternate future from which his Nimrod half originated. From a powers standpoint, Bastion is one of the deadliest villains the X-Men have ever faced.
Bastion in X-Men ’97
X-Men ’97 has hinted at Bastion appearing throughout the first season, since the second episode. We saw the distinctive back of his head at a war room meeting with military officials. We also saw him in a partial photo with Forge, in the episode “Lifedeath Pt.I.” This photograph was from Forge’s days as a government operative. You can also see him walking past Magneto at the celebration in Genosha in “Remember It,” before the Sentinel slaughter.
We know he’s promised Sinister something in return for his assistance in the genocide, acquiring Bolivar Trask’s DNA to activate the wild Sentinel. Sinister mentions that he was a villain that the X-Men faced once before. The X-Men battled a Nimrod in the original animated series, and it’s likely that he has evolved into Bastion. Although probably through non-magical means, as the Siege Perilous is not part of X-Men ’97 canon (yet). Whatever Bastion plans to do, he’s already caused horrific damage to the mutant community. We’ll find out how the X-Men plan to take him on in the final episodes of X-Men ’97 season one.

28 YEARS LATER Trilogy Adds Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes to Cast
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are teaming up again. That might sound like dream come true, but it’s actually something even better: a nightmare. We know because the last time they worked together was 2002’s 28 Days Later. That popular horror film’s influence is still being felt more than two decades later. Now it’s going to be felt even longer. That’s exactly what is bringing them back together. They’re making a sequel to their modern zombie classic. Only it might be more than just a single new entry in the franchise. It could launch a new trilogy.

According to Variety, the cast of 28 Years Later is coming together. The publication reports that Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes have joined the film. That’s a pretty star-studded opening play.
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland Re-Teaming for Sequel and Possible TrilogyThe Hollywood Reporter announced Boyle, who directed 28 Days Later, is making his long-awaited return to the franchise. Even better he is bringing the original film’s writer, Garland, with him. Boyle will direct a new film, 28 Years Later, which will move the story decades past the original entry starring Cillian Murphy.
Rather than just one film, though, THR says the duo has plans to launch a trilogy. Garland would write all three scripts, with the Academy Award-winning Boyle directing the first at least. Variety recently reported that Nia DaCosta is in talks to direct the second part of the trilogy. Garland and Boyle will begin shopping the project to studios soon. The pitch will include giving each film its own $75 million budget. That would pay for a whole lot of very fast reanimated corpses.
While this movie would mark the return of Boyle and Garland as a creative team, their zombie film did get a sequel with 2007’s 28 Weeks Later. However, they only served as executive producers on the movie. (Which, for the record, was still very good!) That’s what makes this news so exciting for fans, especially those who remember what a cultural phenomenon 28 Days Later was.
It still is. The modern zombie renaissance owes a lot to Boyle and Garland. With their renewed partnership it is likely going to owe them even more in the future.

Nearly 5 Million People Played FALLOUT In a Single Day Thanks to the TV Series
Video game fans have been safely enjoying the excitement/terror of a post-nuclear wasteland since 1997. That’s when Fallout and its ’50s-era Cold War aesthetic first came to stores. Since then countless sequels and spinoffs have turned the game into one of genre’s most successful franchises. Now Fallout is ready to conquer another medium entirely. It’s getting its very own show from Amazon. What kind of story can gamers expect from the Prime Video Fallout adaptation? Who’s behind it, and who will star in it? And when will we get a chance to see it? (And if you’re looking for the video of Walton Goggins’ transformation in The Ghoul, you can check it out here.)
…and almost five million across all Fallout games in a single day!⚡
— Fallout (@Fallout) April 23, 2024
It turns out that this series is well worth watching. And the franchise is seeing that impact across its titles. Bethesda reported that over one million people played Fallout 76 in a single day… And almost five million people logged in to play Fallout across all its games. Phew. That is a lot of people.
The Fallout series has now released on Prime Video. Here you can find a non-spoilery rundown of everything there is to know about Prime Video’s Fallout series.
Title
Prime Video’s adaptation will share the same name as the original game, Fallout.
Fallout‘s PlotWe officially have our first full look at the Fallout series. Prime Video released the first trailer for the show and it teases a dangerous wasteland of a world. But it’s clear the show understands its dark humor as well.

Prime Video has shared an official Fallout series synopsis, setting us up for what’s to come. It reveals, “Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them.“

There will also be an adorable animal involved. In the Fallout games, a dog called Dogmeat exists as an NPC companion character that accompanies players on their adventures. According to a blog post from Amazon, the live-action Fallout series’ cute canine isn’t called Dogmeat, but instead is named CX404. But this pup, too, will serve “as a companion navigating the post-apocalyptic world.”
